Playful Kiss: Episode 15

You can start to see the loose ends being tied up, or rather, preparing to be tied up in the finale tomorrow. I suspect we’ll get a lot of ends hastily tied together in the next episode just for the sake of leaving everyone happy, which I am not a great fan of; lead us through conflicts and get us there naturally, rather than inventing last-minute scenarios for happiness that don’t necessarily ring true.

On the other hand, if we must choose between an ending that is either too pat or littered with loose threads, I’ll (grudgingly) take pat.

EPISODE 15 RECAP

Mom announces that the happy couple will marry next week, causing double-takes all around. Seung-jo had meant to marry after graduation, but she points out that there’ll always be something to wait for — internship, residency, his army obligation — so they may as well do it now.

Ha-ni shares the news with her friends at the noodle shop, which seems like a pretty insensitive place to do it, considering that Joon-gu is nursing his broken heart by throwing himself into working there. But I suppose we need them here so we can witness the odd introduction of a new girl, who arrives for some noodles.

Her appearance throws everyone off because she’s Caucasian. Everyone is anxious at having their precarious English tested, but as it turns out, she’s fluent in Korean (her mother is Korean). What a random scene, but the fact that it is so awkwardly shoehorned in here leads me to believe we’re being set up (clumsily) for something.

Ha-ni and Seung-jo go ring and dress/tux shopping — or at least attempt to. Ha-ni is excited about all these plans, and tries to convince Seung-jo to participate, but he grumbles at each step of the way.

Ha-ni urges him to get a ring as proof of their love, adding that he has to let people know that he’s taken. He notes that she really means for the ring to act as shackles, and leaves the store. He balks at a photo shoot and buying a tux, because in his uber-logical robot brain, the ceremony is a waste of time and money. He tells Ha-ni that even when they’re married, he won’t just bend over backwards to suit her preferences. She points out that he’s never done that.

He starts to blame his mother for pushing, but Ha-ni wisely sees that Mom’s not the problem. Why did he announce that he’d marry her if he was going to be like this? Seung-jo doesn’t know and sighs that he regrets it, then adds that they ought to reconsider.

With only a few days remaining until the wedding, Ha-ni is dejected and confused. Her friends assure her that Seung-jo’s just being his usual difficult self, but he doesn’t mean to really call it off.

Sure enough, Seung-jo comes back to his senses (seriously, boy? It’s that hard for you to understand that a wedding is important to women?) and visits Ha-ni’s father. To Ha-ni’s surprise, Seung-jo takes the two of them on a road trip to visit the graves of her mother and grandmother.

Seung-jo has come to pay his respects to them, and introduces himself as “son-in-law.” He says, ” I’ve already gotten in trouble for not listening to Ha-ni. But don’t worry, I’ll take good care of her.”

Ha-ni’s still feeling stung and mutters that she hates him, but then shakes her head and amends, “No, I like you. Thank you.”

Now he’s more willing to discuss wedding plans, and although he initially scoffs at the idea of a honeymoon, he relents and tells her to pick the place. She decides an island vacation would be nice (thinking of a beach resort), and Seung-jo makes her happy by readily agreeing… until he asks, “How about Yeouido? Or Bamseom? Or Dookseom?” LOL.

(Those are technically little islands in Seoul, on the Han River, but barely qualify as such. It’s like asking for Hawaii and having your husband suggest Long Island or Staten Island instead.)

Seung-jo pulls out his phone and makes a deal with her: If he turns up a three-of-a-kind on his game, he’ll agree to her choice. She chants, “Jeju Island” over and over, willing the game to go her way — and when it does, she squeals in glee and dances around him. Then we see that it’s rigged to always yield a three-of-a-kind. Gah, Seung-jo! Would it break some sort of circuitry in your brain to simply agree? You are a tiring man-boy.

On the eve of the wedding, Ju-ri and Min-ah come over for a sleepover and present Ha-ni with pink lingerie for her honeymoon.

Next door, the brothers share a moment as Eun-jo comments on all of Ha-ni’s flaws, though without his usual scorn. He declares that while he’s going to marry a much prettier, smarter girl, he approves of his hyung’s choice: “I really like you, hyung, but it’s true that there are problems with your personality. So I think you have to marry a girl like Oh Ha-ni. You’re doing the right thing. Congratulations!” It’s kind of adorable.

Two other men, however, are having a tougher time of it. First is Joon-gu (poor Duckie!), who looks up at Ha-ni’s window from outside. His mood is bittersweet, but he focuses on the positive, saying that he’s happy, “Because you’re really happy right now. If you’re happy… I’m happy too.”

AGH, my heart bleeds for you. Can we have a nice girl show up in the last episode and give us assurance that he’ll be happy? Oh, wait… I see what you did there, drama!

Ha-ni’s father, meanwhile, has a lonely drink that night. Ha-ni joins him, and finds herself fighting back tears as she thanks him for raising her. Dad blinks back his own as he urges her to smile rather than cry.

They practice matching their steps down the imaginary aisle for the ceremony, which is one of the sweeter moments in this episode. This relationship has always been among the more genuine ones in this drama, so it’s particularly poignant.

Wedding day. Ha-ni receives a few unexpected visitors as she waits for the ceremony, which include her high school teacher — who’s now married to Seung-jo’s old teacher and pregnant. Looks like the dumb-but-lovable woman won out in both generations, eh?

He-ra is quite gracious in her well-wishes for Ha-ni, telling her that she’s glad that Seung-jo chose her; ironically, it’s that very fact that makes her like him, as it shows Seung-jo has good taste in women. Ha-ni’s touched by this unexpected praise, and the two shake hands warmly.

Even when she was being antagonistic He-ra was always sunny and likable, so I’m glad that they kept from making her cartoonishly villainous, which would have been the easy way out. It fits with the overall theme, in that the point wasn’t that Seung-jo would pick Ha-ni because He-ra was a bitch, but because heart trumps logic — no matter how well-matched they seemed on paper, his feelings went a different way.

And then, it’s time for the ceremony. Just before Ha-ni heads out, Eun-jo offers her his wedding present, and whispers into her ear.

Things proceed smoothly as Seung-jo and Ha-ni state their vows, followed by speeches by both fathers. Ha-ni’s father’s is particularly heartfelt as he praises Ha-ni for her snail-like steadfastness. He’d worried about her, but now feels relieved to leave her in the hands of a capable mate: “Seung-jo, thank you. Please stick with our Ha-ni through the end.”

But it wouldn’t be a true Ha-ni affair without a mishap or several, and when it’s time for the ring exchange, Ha-ni drops Seung-jo’s ring, which goes rolling under the seats.

It’s found soon enough, but Seung-jo mock-grumbles that she’s a dummy. Undaunted, Ha-ni returns, “Don’t make fun, Baek Seung-jo — I know you liked me a lot, and from a long time ago.” She’s referring to their second kiss, which wasn’t in the rain after all but at the villa. Seung-jo shoots a look at his brother, who nonchalantly glances away with a “Who, me?” look on his face.

Ha-ni teases him for playing coy, then grabs him in a surprise kiss, to the surprise of everybody.

Seung-jo pulls back in embarrassment, but she playfully sticks out her tongue at him.

And then they have to ruin this light-hearted moment by panning over to poor Joon-gu’s pained face. Don’t worry, Joon-gu! Just hang in there for another hour, and I’m sure you’ll get your happy ending. Well, if the following two are any indication:

He-ra is exasperated when Kyung-soo follows her out of the wedding, but she accepts his invitation to have lunch together. Notice for a hot-dog-eating contest grabs his attnetion, and his boyish excitement makes her laugh. I’m not at all convinced that these two coupling up makes any sense, but it’s like the drama wants to slap everyone together in twosomes now that we’re heading to the finish.

Off to Jeju go our married couple. At the resort, they run into another newlywed couple, whom you will learn to hate soon enough. The young wife, Hyun-ah, eyes Seung-jo with interest while her own meek husband keeps his head bowed and obeys her every whim.

At first it’s coincidence that keeps them in each other’s orbits, since they’re staying in adjacent rooms. The couples select the same dinner course, so Ha-ni uncomfortably sits through dinner while Hyun-ah commandeers the conversation and boldly flirts with Seung-jo. Feeling put out, Ha-ni reaches for the wine and ends up hungover the next day.

Like I said, this random character is clearly being set up for a last-minute arc, and I suspect she is here to give Joon-gu a consolation prize. She returns to the noodle restaurant, where Joon-gu serves her. When she asks for a fork, Joon-gu cannot let this go — as we know, he takes his food seriously, and instructs her how to use chopsticks properly.

Back on Jeju, Ha-ni and Seung-jo head out on Day 2 of their honeymoon, visiting the Museum of African Art… only to find that the other couple is also there. Hyun-ah has the brassiness to actually cling to Seung-jo’s arm like a girlfriend (or wife, I suppose), leaving her own groom to trail behind with Ha-ni. I’m a little annoyed at Robot Boy for allowing this, because politeness be damned, he’s got a WIFE now, yeah? Dude, I know you’re not into Hyun-ah, but this would be a FINE TIME to employ your famous cold shoulder, buddy.

Ha-ni tells Hyun-ah’s husband to keep Hyun-ah to himself, but incredibly enough, Mr. Milquetoast is actually blind to his wife’s antics. He fears that Seung-jo will fall for her, whom he describes as innocent and sweet. Uh, sympathy go poof now.

Hilariously, just as Hyun-ah is moving to latch onto Seung-jo’s arm again, a woman in a wig bumps into them hard, separating them. Aw, Mom! You sure don’t know your boundaries, but at least your heart is in the right place.

That evening, Ha-ni gets out her pretty new underwear and nervously anticipates that this is the night she’ll get to use it… until there’s a knock at the door. It’s the Pesky Pair, here with champagne. Cockblocked!

The next morning, Ha-ni is bummed, as this is their last day here and she’s hardly had any time alone with Seung-jo. Plus, she doesn’t even have any vacation photos — which makes him smile and tell her not to worry, since he knows Mom has got that part covered.

Seung-jo agrees to spend today with Ha-ni, just the two of them, and she gets prettied up excitedly. And then comes the knock on the door.

If he were my husband I’d be glaring at him to keep the damn door closed, but the urgency in the visitor’s voice is too much to ignore. The husband bursts in and begs for Seung-jo’s help — Hyun-ah is doubled over in pain.

Ha-ni’s uncomfortable watching Seung-jo feel up Hyun-ah (uh, hello, no medical license?), and her woman’s intuition just may be making her a little suspicious as well. She blurts, “Stop!” and says that she hates seeing him with his hands all over another woman.

Seung-jo assumes that Ha-ni’s being jealous for no reason and tells her in a hard voice that he’s going to be a doctor. If she has a problem with that, well, then they can’t be together. Oh, Seung-jo, you sure know how to make a honeymoon romantic.

In tears, Ha-ni runs out and Hyun-ah’s husband heads out to follow her. At which point Hyun-ah smiles and takes his hand, saying, “Finally, it’s just the two of us.” Having faked everything, now she makes her move, saying that she wishes he’d met her before Ha-ni, whom she can tell he doesn’t like.

Seung-jo shoots her a hard look and rejects her advance coldly. Finally! How is it that you have more patience for an interloping stranger than you do for your wife?

Seung-jo finds Ha-ni sitting alone and joins her, but she, feeling wounded, scoots away. He asks if she’s still angry — she is — but melts that away by telling her, “But you’re prettier when you smile.” Smooooth, I’ll give you that. He adds, “When I see you smiling, it makes me feel good.”

Seung-jo starts to tickle Ha-ni, and her anger fades fast as she shrieks with laughter.

That night they sit awkwardly — how adorable are they in matching PJs? — both thinking of the night ahead but a little unsure how to get there. Ha-ni apologizes for being foolish and jealous earlier, and Seung-jo answers, “You’re cute… sometimes. Sometimes you’re beautiful, somehow.”

Slinging an arm around her, he wonders, “But why do I like you? You’re not that pretty, and you’re cute only sometimes. Why do I always want to see you? What have you done to me?”

With that, he moves in for a kiss, then gathers her up in his arms and carries her to bed. Ha-ni pulls back, pausing to ask for a few moments to “prepare” a few things (thinking of her pretty lingerie), but he tells her not to bother: “I can’t wait anymore.” (Well, if you hadn’t let the Newlyweds From Hell derail your honeymoon for three days…)

Honeymoon over, the couple begin married life back at home, where Seung-jo’s room has been redecorated to suit both of them. Ha-ni manages to oversleep (it’s customary for the new bride to be up at the crack of dawn to pay her respects to her in-laws and make breakfast) and rushes downstairs, where the others are already eating. Thankfully, Mom isn’t a stickler for those old-fashioned expectations and greets her warmly.

Ha-ni’s intending to drop by the nursing department today so she can apply for a transfer, but she’s got a few obstacles to overcome, like waiting for a spot to open up, as well as passing an entrance exam.

Mom reminds Seung-jo to take care of the marriage registration paperwork… but Seung-jo gets an idea and answers with a noncommittal, “We’ll see. I’ll think about it.” Mom is bewildered and Ha-ni worried — does that mean he’s reconsidering the marriage? They won’t be legally married until they register, and dragging his feet after the honeymoon is awfully cavalier of him, Mom argues.

Seung-jo answers that he just feels like he’s being shoved into everything, and comes to a “compromise” — that he’ll register the marriage once Ha-ni passes the nursing department exam.

Ha-ni worries about what happens if she can’t — say, for instance, a slot never opens up. Seung-jo just shrugs it off, asking if she was only prepared to exert this (paltry) amount of effort to pursue nursing.

Clearly he is using this as motivation to spur Ha-ni to try hard, as he once did to provoke her into picking a future that extended beyond being his mate. And as he walks away from his stunned family, he smiles in amusement. You bastid!

COMMENTS

I dunno, I was rather bored this episode. For one containing such a big life event, it sure was ho-hum about it. And the other newlywed couple — they were irritating, but worse than that, ultimately pointless. You might argue that they forced Ha-ni and Seung-jo to address the issue of her jealousy, which might have worked if Ha-ni were actually overreacting. Instead, it was just absurd and aggravating. It might have been fine at a different point in the series — but in the penultimate episode, I want to deal with story that actually has an effect on our main characters. Like the nursing bit at the end (even if I am uncomfortable with Seung-jo using their marriage as a tool to manipulate her, even if it’s “for her own good”).

I disliked that even after Seung-jo found out that Ha-ni’s instincts about Hyun-ah were right, he didn’t apologize or do anything to ease her concerns. He let Ha-ni believe it was 100% her fault for overreacting, when really there were two parties at work here. And when she apologizes for overreacting, he just accepts it. Oh, how generous of you for liking this dumb, unpretty girl who’s only sometimes cute.

Look, I get that this is the character. I get — and even like — that he’s kind of an ass sometimes, since we don’t need our heroes to be perfect Prince Charmings. But when you’re putting these characters into a marriage and giving us the happily-ever-after treatment, shouldn’t that marriage be, yunno, functional? Balanced? Mature? I guess the luster is off and I no longer really think this couple is adorable beyond belief.

(It might help — a little — if his hair were still curly. JUST SAYIN’.)

On the other hand, my favorite scene was probably the father-daughter “walk down the aisle” because it played with all the right conflicts and emotions — the ones we care about, the ones that have been well-established and built into the fabric of this drama. It’s such a small moment but that bittersweet moment of letting go of daddy’s little girl is so real and packed with honest feeling. I wish we had more of those beats, rather than silly external conflicts brought in to buzz in annoying circles over our heads like gnats at a picnic.

I enjoy watching this sweet series

I understand the need to respond to economic reality and cut your losses when you are dying in the ratings. And I am grateful that they didn't cancel mid story like they do on American televison (Firefly anyone?).

However, I wonder how much film/video they have in the can. Considering how popular the series is internationally, if they have enough film in the can, they should consider re-editing the material to present a smoother, less hasty version of PK story. (Director's Cut anyone?) I would love to see a version where the story glides from one benchmark moment to another, rather than the broad jumps the story has taken in the latter part of the serie's run.

There probably is not financial incentive to re-edit and so I'll just have the settle for the pleasure this version brings, knowing it falls a little short of its full potential.

I consider my ability to soldier through the most taffy-like dramas fairly strong - after all, I got into Asian dramas via Taiwanese dramas, which consistently top the scale on overacting and recycled fairytale plots - and this episode had me pausing continually to cringe.

I'd rather watch KHJ as himself do these scenes and add 4D bits, because I'm half-convinced that the only way that his acting is so supremely awkward is a) because he himself feels supremely awkward acting out these scenes, and b) because the director is a KHJ anti-fan.

You know what...is that what they are wearing for their honeymoon? matching pjs srsly that is such a turn off..lmao
& i wouldn't have waited the 3rd night, shoot I would've done my business with my husband our first night...lol
I'm sorry my husband would be in his boxer shorts while me in my sexy lingerie..on the first night..& the first morning as one we would still be in bed..no rush to go sightseeing the only sightseeing would should be doing is our suite & ourselves...lmao only time we leave our suite is for dinner but the first night & first day should be all spent in the suite together with less or no clothes on at all...LMAO (sorry for the too much info XD)

Other than that, I'm surprise that Christine made an appearance, it's about time. Now I know not to feel bad for Joon-gu cause his gonna have his girl after all.
The appearance of the teachers OMG so happy to see them. I love them in the earlier episodes & happy to see she got her man/family :D

Favorite part was definitely the father-daughter moment. I'm a sucker for moments like that because I'm super close to my daddy (well both parents really) & i can just imagine how tough it would be to have a moment like that with my dad.

Other than that the episode was so-so, thanks JB for the recap :D

He said: Maybe we should rethink this.
I said: You jerk!
He said: Mother.. Grandmother.. I will take care of her.
I said: I love you!
He said: I don't want a grand honeymoon.
I said: You jerk!
He said: If you win, you decide. (setting it up in her favor)
I said: I love you!
He said: You're marrying a future doctor, if you can't handle that, don't live with me.
I said: You jerk!
He said: When you smile, It makes me feel good. (tickles)
I said: I love you!
He said: I don't want to finalize our wedding papers.
I said: You jerk!
He said: Pass the nursing exam first (with a smirk, all just to motivate her)
I said: I love you!

and then "THE" night happened. I love you forever.

Ok, basically I was like back and forth with BSJ here.. haha, but in the end I wuv him!

Love this drama. I like the pacing of this episode. I was able to watched few episodes of Taiwanese version 1 and many of season 2. Both were good and yes the season 2 was Joey was much in love there and too touchy. He was not never afraid of him being touchy.

Anyway, I like the 16-episode only for this drama. Making it to 20 will make it dull. I enjoyed the cartoonish start and the maturity in the end.

Yeah, I believed they put unnecessary characters and such but that's okay. I like the PD's mind here.

Anyway, there will be 8-youtube episodes to be released next month. They have started the filming so let us continue supporting that.

-Sigh- it is really sad that they have to squeeze so much into so few episodes. Like the introduction of the "Christina" character...if they were going to bring her into this series they should of introduced her earlier, so she doesn't feel like such a last minute plot device.

It makes me really sad to think of the potential PK had if it had been 20 episodes instead of 16...well, 20 isn't even really enough for all they got going on here to be played out well, but better than 16 T^T At least then they would have time to draw out the different plots more naturally. Too bad...

By this episode, I no longer has the strength to look at the drama analytically. I just squeal and love everything. Thanks so much for translating the dialogue as is. I want so much to know exactly what he says in the honeymoon scene b4 he kisses her. I thought, being Baek Seung Jo.. what he says is kinda hot... sent shivers up my spine.. :P

Thanks for the fast recap! Only one more episode and we're done ~ ...are you also gonna be recapping the 9 episodes they'll air in youtube in Nov?

never mind what you guys say about the ratings or hyun joong but i think this drama and acting is cute and warm and i like the fact that hyun joong acts the way he is, which fits the stiffness that's required of a high standoffish character that he's supposed to play.

if he had turned sweet & gooey all at once to hani, then that's not playing the character correctly at all.

I say kudos to hyun joong for his efforts and say whatever you guys like, the on-screen chemistry with hani and seung jo is good! super! yay yay! both look good together

The only good thing about this "rushed" ep is the shortening of the annoying honeymooning couple cuz in the Taiwan version, they were annoying so much longer. Maybe it's good that the intimate scene was not copied here or else many would not be able to concentrate at work due to the constant replay of that scene.

If there was a petition to demand for season II of PK, i'd sign. There are so much more issues to play out.

AHhhhh Round 15 already....
Noo... SHOW is only about to start and now it's ending?
KYAAA...

Thanks JB for your recap.

That random odd Caucasian girl was actually a role that supposedly for the arranged marriage plot. But in PK that role was HeRa's. I don't know, probably PD wants to throw a big surprise to us who are aware of the storyline... anyway I still think it serves us a point to show that love can happen in a most unusual/unexpected way. For a local Busan boy and a Caucasian girl... Pretty odd I'd say.

The part about the other newlyweds; Hmmm... I wouldn't say it's entirely pointless, since like SJ said; he is going to be a doctor and would practice such acts with patients including women, most of the time. So I'd say it served the point that HN shouldn't be jealous because of that. I do agree that SJ should be more considerate since it was his fault too, but it wouldn't serve the idea; of him being doctor and she would be jealous all the time. So it's best that she need not be alarmed by it at all. Even if it is true that she needs to be, in this case. But I think he needs her to trust him. And I get it. So to me, there's no point of telling her anyway.

They just got married for few days; give it a break. The maturity; the balance; the understanding; aren't something that will be achieved that easily. It's an ongoing hardwork. That's what marriage is. Many people get divorced coz they gave up too early. What I like about this story is how they both learn the process of their relationship, no matter how whacked they are. What is it that your partner can do or help for you? And what can you do in return. And the fact that your partner has a flaw that in the end you just ignored and take him/her for who they are. It's a risk actually.

Anyway, about the show. I really love it. In short;

SJ-HN-Dad at cemetery - HEARTFELT
SJ-HN Jeju Island choice by phone - SWEEEEEET
Dad-HN practice walk - EPICLY TEARY
HN drops SJ ring - SO HANI-ISH INCIDENT
HN attack kiss on SJ at the altar - REVENGE IS SO SWEET
SJ-HN Picture Slides - EPICLY LOL
SJ-HN Bed-Scenes - EPILEPTIC SEIZURE

I had fun, it's like an hour of high dosage of INK manga scans. I don't know how they can cram this up and still looks nicely to me. I guess I'm pretty easy to be pleased, and I'm OK with it. ^^

Despite the few odd comments, I enjoyed watching this episode in the same way that I did those before it.

Short & sweet, not dragging. Just loved JS & HN.

I watch it not thinking nor comparing it with the Taiwanese or Japanese versions but as a drama of sorts.

Sadly, we're on it's last episode.

thanks jb!!!
your fast and honest as usual!!

episode 15 have its good and bad ingredients put in the bowl toss together add little this and that and viola! its episode 15!

as i mentioned in AKP, i hate that wall!!! i never really hated any non human thing in any k-drama that i watched before but drama god! why is that wall interferring with that important sweet scene of our adorable couple!!! (ok, i just let it out!) and the editing was inconsistent!!! its like some scenes are just like sprouting mushrooms! but then again, i'll just likely to let it slide because im blinded by my love for PK! LOL!

there some sweet and touching moments, like the father and daughter scene, the visit in the graveyard scene, the goodbye scene of joon gu outside hani's house, the surprise kiss from hani to seung jo and of course the honeymoon night (even im ranting about the wall!) coz its done right for me.

on the last part, seung jo's using the marriage to get hani work her ass of to be admitted into nursing department is bit annoying but i guess even though he own up to his feelings it doesnt mean that he's no longer the robot boy that we know!

i know episode 16 will be loaded with many loose ends that need to be tied up but hey, im just happy right now with PK even with its flaws i still love it to pieces. its like a kid sister whom could be annoying at times but still endearing and you'll be willing to put up with her coz you know that she's full of love!

I was waiting for your recap this time. Surprisingly, it's short. I guess there's no surprise there, this episode is such a turn off, guess my expectation is too high. I agree with you, this one just want to make everybody happy. I'd rather make my own "speculation" than having a so so story. Hope they'll do something with the episodes only for the internet audience.

Thanks for the recap JB!

I've long given up analyzing drama for plot development and just enjoy the eye candies lols. The plot is somewhat weird well cuz they closely follow the manga. What made me unhappy is that how come smarty pants Seungjo can't even see that he is being manipulated by the girl of that annoying couple. When he just went to her and asked her whether she's still angry.. I was like WHATTTT? If I were Hani I would probably make your days miserable for being mean in front of strangers. Ahh but the first night scene totally redeemed it heeee. I hated the umbrella and now the walls and candles. They are totally unnecessary!

They squeezed in so much in the episodes lately and made me feel like the first few episodes are too long. Anyways.. ep 15 made me squeal like a fan girl lols.. The way he smile when he looked at her *loves* Jung So Min must be one of the luckiest girl right now. I don't think HJL has been that close with anyone before.

I'm looking forward to the finale tonight and the 9 episodes on youtube.

I do think PK did a pretty decent job considering they have only airtime of 16 hours vs other version. So they do seem to be rushing through the end (to tie loose ends & give everyone a happily ever after) but at least they did not missed the important stuff but instead filter away those bits which i find them annoying in ISWAK as it was a bit over the top.

I will look forward on the watching their mini episodes on youtube, if I can find them.

after watching the past few eps..i realized why i cant feel the time have passed in the drama..its bcoz of eunjo..he's not growing up (physically)..in the anime, we could see eun jo's growth, so we know that years have passed..and that makes it more logical for the story..hahahaha

Two things I must say, 1) why is he so awkward when they are being intimate? Shouldn't kiss scenes have been part of his idol training? IMO the best looking kiss in the show is when she plants one on him forcefully at the wedding. 2) Why in the hell does the half Korean girl not know how to use chopsticks? Seriously? I didn't catch her father's ethnicity, but unless it was some super poor backwards eastern European country are we supposed to believe that this girl has been carefully taught the Korean language but somehow avoided the prevalent Asian cuisine available? Lots of people of every ethnicity use chopsticks when eating Asian food. Maybe she's just playing dumb so he'll teach her, but it doesn't look that way.

I was thinking that too! If her mother thought enough to teach her Korean then she should know how to use chopsticks! I think it was a ploy to get closer to BJG. She said her father was English.

What I think about SJ yelling HN when examining the girl at their honeymoon was that SJ was also maybe a bit disappointed that HN got jealous so easily. Like saying that SJ can't be trusted so he isn't allowed to touch other women. So SJ needed to remind her that he is actually becoming a doctor and he will have to examine female patients. Only that his tone was bit too cold, but hey, wouldn't you be offended if your partner would immediately fall into jealousy like suspecting you would do something with another girl.

That's what I'm thinking.

I really wished that they had put the scene of Duckie after the wedding somewhere else, it was like a slap in my face. It was a good scene, but it completely ruined my happy mood from the wedding scene.

at the people complaining bout the "akwardness" of the first night the akwardness was natural bc well its their first time to be together who wouldnt be?? Also, the kissing scenes here are wayyy more natural than the average, typical, kdrama-lips-press-scene.
l
ike many of you I forgot the flaws of PK already and really just fell in love with the drama...this show has HEART, there is no denying that and you can't help but be invested in the characters so much, esp Hani. Nevermind the choppy editing, the "rushed" plots..the sincerity of this slice-of life story really gets to me. I'm one of those people who watch dramas because ITS FUN.

Ok I go out off the topic (please forgive me PK fans)....but since JB chooses FT Island Merry Me as song of the day, I can't keep my self smiling stupidly. As to tell, I'm at the age of woman who for better if she is married properly or at least has a plan for marriage, so do every one, has asked me frequently "have you been married?", "when will you marry?", "who is the prospective groom?", "have you have the prospective groom?", etc. And while they ask me about all those questions, this Marry Me song is played as background song in my head. It's just probably going to be OST of my life for this time around and years ahead. ha, ha, ha

Anyway, what drama will replace PK?

The recap was beautiful and much more entertaining the episode. There were parts I couldn't stand like the couple from annoyance island. Seung Jo's annoying self made me want to grab and slap the kid straight ugh. It's the 15th episode, really.

Once again, thank you!

Thank you for another fast recap!

I really liked this episode. I did feel a range of emotions (laughing, crying, frustration, etc...) so I think I got the point even though it was choppy.

When HeRa & KyungSoo were at the hot dog shop & he exclaims "I'm 21" -- I LOL'd & thought "in your dreams". :) This coupling does seem really weird. I think that had they cast an actor that was closer to age 21 IRL that it would be more believeable. With him being 40-ish IRL, it is just too creepy.

The father/daughter moment in the dining room was so sweet and poignant. The father's speeches at the wedding...I just can't help being a sap. It made me cry like a baby.

After reading your recap, I do see the flaws. Why didn't BSJ tell OHN he was sorry for what happened w/psycho newlywed lady? What is up with him holding out on the marriage registration? You've already consumated it buddy! I get that he is trying to get a rise out of OHN & spur her on to accomplishing her goal, but come on BSJ - you are cold.

I agree w/ others that the placement of Christine in this episode was strange. They should've at least put her in one of last weeks episodes. I know it is the typical "tying up loose ends", but sometimes that makes me crazy.

The last night of the honeymoon scenes -- That was totally hot when he said "What have you done to me?"! When he said "I can't wait any longer."...(Insert fangirl squeeeeeing here)

It is now 5:30 am. I have been awake for an hour because I woke up with the thought...please don't make OHN pregnant at the end of tonights episode! Please, please, please! I just want love -- plain & simple, straightforward, 'yes, I've loved you for a long time, Even though I am a genius, I was too stupid to realize it' devotion. Don't screw it up w/ her getting pregnant right away. Pretty please?!?!

Oops - I meant ‘Even though I am a genius, I am too stupid to realize that I love you. Let me make it up to you for the rest of my life’ devotion.

PK - I love you but you make me a sleep-deprived idiot. ;)

Some last goodies before the last spurt...

Also, for those who want to follow my rudimentary live recap, I will not post it here like yesterday... Just because I don't want to spam the thread while it is still "fresh" and JB is probably sick by now of all my posts. and because it's trouble some to copy and paste from one site to another during the live broadcast. (the original post was in ockoala's wordpress:ockoala.wordpress.com so you can find it there today... otherwise, you can find plenty of recaps on soompi if you have an account.)

SPOILER
and finally, rant over and the goodies:

Thanks for the recap. The bloom is off the drama rose? One last episode to redeem itself.

Some good parts tho-

Finally a new emotion from Robot Boy-when the parents are giving their tributes and the camera follows BSJ, his eyes are full of tears.

And I loved his little brother's night time speech about the personality flaws...so insightful for someone so young.

But what I wanted more of was the playful scenes like the tickling one. The scene that epitomizes their relationship IMHO is the beach scene when BSJ gave OHN the socks and ran away laughing with her in full pursuit. This is Playful Kiss. We want more play and more kissing. Fighting!

You may not have read the manga this is based on, so let me explain: Joon-gu's Japanese counterpart in the manga does get a pretty English wife named Cristine. She appears shortly after the marriage as a classmate of Ha Ni's Japanese counterpart. She like's the Japanese Joon-gu in much the same way he liked the Japanese Ha Ni. And, he falls for her as well. (This takes place over several months) My guess is that they had planned for the Cristine character to show up in episode 15 and explore that storyline for five episodes, but now it'll have to be rushed. It's sad they don't have more time as these two have a sweet story.

I am not surprised BSJ didn't apologize about his harsh words. Cause as we know, no one change the character in a night. But what I am disappointed a little is the story, it is somehow is too short. Better if the episode extend until 20 episode.

PK is the joint pack of ISWAK and They Kiss Again-Taiwan version. So it's not easy to pack two series in 16 episode. If only PK has more episode.....

About the rating ? Who cares, I love this series, And that's enough. BTW PK is the first rank in "My Soju" and Viiki, so it means there are more viewer all over the world who watch it. Congratulation Kim Hyun Joong, hope he makes more movie and drama

I don't like how they're rushing everything into two episodes. But I can't blame them, I guess; their first few episodes were VEEEERY slow. I love Playful Kiss and all, but I don't know. All this rushed scenes are just too good to be, well, rushed.

I think they just condensed 4 or 5 eps into one show and skipped many parts. Seriously it feels like they just want to get it over and done with. Like "oh plot point one" ( expands into dialogue) If I were the actor I would be bloody annoyed at the people who made this. Usually I think Korea has better.... well everything but I really would say the taiwanese version was better this time - even though I gave it a 2.5/5, mildly entertaining and fresh.

This drama is just ADORABLE. I just feel so happy when I'm watching.

In MY mind, this is the "perfect" kdrama. After several years as a casual kdrama watcher and umpteenth kdramas under my belt, I have kept a mental list of things I like and dislike about kdramas. And in a my wannabe kdrama scriptwriter world, PK is perfect.

First, you must have a good looking cast. PK far exceeds expectations.

The hero must be arrogant but redeemable. Yeah, there are times when I want to shake Seung Jo, but that is outnumbered by the times that I want to just hug him.

The heroine has to be sweet and spunky. She cannot be burden with the baggage of being dirt poor but good hearted and working a gazillion jobs to help her poor suffering family. There were times that I wanted to shake Ha Ni, but most of the time I cheer her on.

Develop the reasons why the main couple falls in love and why the deserve each other.

The second leads are not evil. They must be worthy rivals. Hae Ra and Joon Gu are the first second leads that I felt so much love and hurt for.

Cool friendships…I love Ha Ni and her friends relationship. Ha Ni can shares her thoughts with them and they are there to support her.

No evil parents/elders. COOLEST Mom in a kdrama ever. And Ha Ni has such a wonderful relationship with her father. I teared.

Cannot waste 2 or 3 precious episodes on angst and misunderstandings and then just 1/2 an episode to reconcile. I have such a low threshold for angst.

No 2 years later crap. I'm still mad at Hwang Tae Kyung for letting Go Mi Nam go off to Africa.

Lots of super cute moments. Cuteness overload when Seung Jo and Ha Ni are happy. I love the honeymoon decision part. That sums up Seung Jo and Ha Ni for me…Seung Jo teasing Ha Ni but ready to make her happy. Ha Ni's giddiness and show of excitement. Seung Jo's knowing smile.

Let the couple have couple moments…definitely hugs and kisses. I love Episode 14.

None of those kdramas chaste kisses. Yo, I'm stuck on the kissing. Couples in love must show there affections. Sometimes action speaks louder then words. I love the akwardness of the pre-kiss and I love that Seung Jo can't wait for her.

At least one episode of "after" coupledom so I don't have to use my imagination. I cannot wait for Episode 16 and youtube episodes of after marriage life.

Tie up loose ends. Joon Gu gets his girl. Hae Ra and tennis sunbae?

I love happy endings. They make me feel so happy and that sense of all is right in the world.

I would say that PK has pretty much exceeded all the above. I'll never be a writer…sigh.

this episode are already part of the sequel(they kiss again) in taiwan version..that's why it looks so compress and other scenes that will support important scenes are not there thats why it has a weak effect...

But i still enjoy it!!

thanks for the recap...reading this after an exhausting day from work really made my day...

I really can't stand Seung Jo. First, without provocation he tells Ha Ni that he is reconsidering the marriage. He should have crawled on his hands and knees begging forgiveness! And then he was an insensitive jerk on the honeymoon. Ha Ni should have flown back to Seoul without him.

Whoa! HN's revenge! I like. :P

I won't even mention nor care about the bad things about the episode-I'm all for the sweet and fluffy (I mean c'mon, it's the 2nd to the last episode!).

I knew that something crazy will happen to the wedding. It wouldn't be a BSJ -OHN thing without some dorkiness right?

Who would have thought that underneath all that metal and electronic parts lies a SJ with a proper *eep* libido?!

Well, there was that bed scene in episode 10... :)

Thanks JB for the recap!
