Pasta writer returns with Maids
by javabeans
Seo Sook-hyang, the writer of MBC’s popular Pasta, has announced her next series, also in the romantic-comedy genre. The working title is Maids [식모들] and is set in the household of a top upper-crust family. The story unfolds as romance develops between the employer and his live-in maid, who also face off in a battle over money.
According to a rep with the production company, Olive Nine, they are currently negotiating a slot on a broadcast station schedule with the aim of getting the drama on the air later this year. (To which I ask, WHEN? It seems like we’re packed with upcoming dramas with the year quickly coming to a close…)
Olive Nine, which produced Pasta, King and I, and Jumong, among other htis, has recently settled the disputes in which it has been embroiled regarding its management rights. It hopes to get back in the mix of things with the new project, and its president stated that the company will be able to settle outstanding cast wages with a new infusion of capital this month and resume business operations.

hmmm didn't see Pasta, so can't really say if I feel excited about this. Story sounds clichéd, but maybe cute

I love it too!
except the script/plot/story was nothing significant, rather it was the actors (adorable!!!) who made this drama stood out for me.

Isn't Wed-Thurs MBC available. Maybe all production companies are trying to avoid that time slot.

Doesn't matter what plot, it's who's playing the roles, the script wordings, the acting that makes it magic or a bore. I'm shallow, there better be either a pretty girl or a handsome guy in there or I won't watch.

Ah something similar to this was done before in Success Story of a Bright Girl starring Jang Hyuk & Jang Nara? I loved that drama as a preteen! The plot, though seemingly cliched, still works in my head when i think of it. It isn't that cliched when falling in love with your maid is a huge faux pas no? :P

I tried watching that...yeah, got through the first episode and really disliked it. I don't think it's not the best first korean drama to watch (at 17). My Girl on the other hand, great first korean drama.

cinderella-concept are really popular, if they can turn this into "upstairs, downstairs" kind of thing...then it'll be a hit! but i hope they would pick somebody who won't be typecasts or something like that!

We'll have to see what this drama is all about...Success Story of a Bright Girl was pleasant. Jang Hyuk didn't have parents and Jang NaRa's parents were in cahoots with the boss...so it was not too angsty.

Am I too greedy to ask for a kdrama that does not involve the female lead living in with the male? I realised that this is a very common premise for romance stories in Korea. Let's see:
Sungkyunkwan Scandal
Playful Kiss
My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho
You're Beautiful
What else....? I'm sure there are more that I can't remember at this time of the day. =P

personal taste
full house
one fine day
trees in heaven
oh my lady
Brilliant Legacy
the reason why this story line is repeated again and again because the writer can not think about an easer way to make a drama just bring a guy and girl throw them togather in the same house and let them fall in love yyyyyyyawn

It is one of the K-Drama Law : to force the male lead & the female lead to live together so they will fall in love to each other eventually :-D (quoted from JB's lines from Oh My Lady recaps)
I have been thinking, many K-drama I have watched almost all of them have this pattern. I can recall only a few K-Drama without it.

I am hoping they'll cast Son Ye Jin or Lee Min Jung as the leads! :D But right now, I am hoping that Moon Chae Won gets a chance of getting a lead role. I think she earned it. She was amazing in PAINTER OF THE WIND and I really liked her in SHINING INHERITANCE even though I didn't like the Kdrama overall.

Pasta.. Hmm it wasn't horribly bad, it had really cute moments between the leads but I felt myself watching until the end more out of habit and commitment rather than excitement and intrigue.
Sometimes the most basic plots can be made into fantastically fresh stories so here's hoping the writer has grown and can create something amazing.

This kind of story never dies out. Maybe this one will attract more male audiences.
I want to know, from a guy's perspective, which [fantasy] actress do you want cast as lead actress for this one? Imagine, who do you want see dressed in the typical French maid outfit all year long?

Can't wait because I loved Pasta. Heck, you might as well stop watching rom-coms if the point is to be completely original. At least they aren't all doing a billion sequels.
Also, considering that Pasta had a little domination/submission thing going on (understatement) it will be interesting to see what this writer does with the maid/master scenario.
