New Daemul trailer and stills
by javabeans
With My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho nearing its end, SBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday show, Daemul, is preparing to go on the air. (It premieres October 6.)
Here are a few trailers, as well as new stills that show lead actress Go Hyun-jung as a television broadcast announcer, which was her career before being elected president. While the first trailer to come out was lighter in tone, the new ones have a much different vibe — more forceful, urgent, and with a more serious bent.
(Note about the title: Daemul is slang meaning “big shot,” which many of you have noted is also in use in Sungkyunkwan Scandal. Neither drama originated the term, though it just so happens that both will be on the air at the same time.)
This trailer came out first, and focuses on the relationship between Go Hyun-jung and Kwon Sang-woo — who does appear to be an escort/host in the beginning (yay!). He meets Go when he’s still an escort, then becomes a prosecutor, which means they’ve conflated two characters into one (in the original, one brother was the escort and another the prosecutor).
These two trailers are newer, and focus more on the political tensions brewing after Go’s character becomes president.

Is it correct that SKKS will be 20 episodes long, since its followup drama will first air on Nov 8th? Phew, I'm so glad that it's not mere 16 episodes because it seems like there's still a lot to be covered.

Not at all, I bet the drama following SKKS will have the young, teen audinece, while Daemul will have another type of audience... Mary stayed out all night has Moon Geun Yong, Jang Geun S. and Kim Jae Wook. And will air after SKKS, I bet it will not have a strong drama with the same kind of comedy or romance to go against to...

Kwon Sang-woo has been my photo avatar since i started watching Kdrama. I am a wacky crazed fan. Go Hyun-jung starred in my all time favorite K-drama, What's Up Fox with PIE.
I have been squealing and jumping up and down since I heard about this little ditty coming out and ooooo I can't wait. and Kwon Sang woo as a host is going to be hotter than almost anything else on.(hard to beat SkkS when they have 4 smoldering hotties) Then they will put him in suits for the rest of this show as a prosecutor. It is like a fantasy show made for me. The guy who is to me the hottest in Suits and from the looks of it being wisecracking and snarky. If they give him glasses at any point in time, I will buy the DVD. who am I fooling, I'll buy it anyway. I don't need to see this one to know I want it for home.

I like the cast....really I do. And the plot seems interesting....yet I don't have the urge to check it out right away. Maybe I'll watch it after I hear some feedback from other people. That being said...the four characters are all looking good on-screen. (haha wow I'm so shallow...)

I'm young and like this type of drama. You talking like that, about ahjussi and ahjuma kind of offence the others, well but then I assume you are a kid and I guess if you watched it, you wouldn't understand nothing, so of course, you would say boring and all...
Btw I see so many childish comments here, if you can't watch this drama go watch ''discov. Kids, boomerang or Nicklodeon, I think this kind of programs will suit you 'KIDS'!!!! LOL....

Agree. That's so rude thinking that just because there isn't an idol or a young pop celebrity involved it's not worth watching and automatically for "ahjussis and ahjummas." I'm 19 and find this drama much more appealing than either MGiaG and PK.

I didn't like the drama with the first trailer because it seemed, normal? Too light? Or not enough light to make it light? I don't know, but when I saw the next two trailers, I was like "Ooooh! Extreme! Definitely watching that!". XD
So yeah, I don't feel it's just an ahjussi/ahjuma drama. I feel it's more of an "if you like this kind of drama then welcome".
As for Nicklodeon? Nick gave me Avatar (the series, not the lame movie), which carried some heavy topics at times, despite being a kids show, so I will forever love it. X)

I've not watched the trailer, but from the cast and the plot summary, I'm not interested... So you can take my comment as neutral...
But...
Isn't your branding of discov. kids (never heard of it though), boomerang and nicklodeon as programs from "KIDS" contradictory to your point about how it's ok to like 'this type of drama' although you're 'young'?
I'm not a kid but I like some of the progs aired on the said channels. I don't see anything wrong with that just like how I don't see anything wrong with you liking a show supposedly targeted at more mature audiences.

I think your comment about discov kids (never heard of this though), boomerang and nicklodeon as being channels for "KIDS" contradicts your point about how it's ok for the 'young' to watch 'this type of drama'.
I am not a kid, but I do enjoy a few of the shows aired on the said channels. I don't see anything wrong with me (i.e. non-kids) liking those channels just as I don't see anything wrong with you (i.e. young person) like shows targeted at a more mature audience.

I was just saying it for those people complaining about the drama not being with idols and youngs actor, or cute and romantic plot, to go watch something else. So I refered that channel, but I myself don't see nothing wrong with these channels... I just felt that these ones who said that this drama was for old people too much, they just care for beauty and famous factor.. and then they come here talking bad about the drama, how old the actress is, and how the drama is supposed to be for old people! That is too much, I think they are so childish. don't take to the heart my refering about that channels, I was just saying that.... I also don't see nothing wrong to me, young, older, and etc watch this kind of movie or channel...

It looks like a story of a woman making her way in the world, the way she wants. Not what her daddy, boyfriend, clique tells her she should want. I would hope that's interesting to women - no matter their age!

If SBS only aired trendy dramas they'd have long done so, mature dramas are still something MANY people watch.

Whoa, a drama for old people!? Evidently, you need to broaden your viewing apart from the obvious.
I'm 24 and I can't stand teen dramas like BOF and You're Beautiful (this was much better than BOF or Shining Inheritance). They're all the same and probably the only reason many watch it because of its 'beautiful' cast.
I'm glad that there are still some who separates themselves from what's trendy. What's wrong with mature characters? At least we don't have to worry about someone beating up someone under school ground with no authority around or some high school drama about two girls fighting over some guy.

I'm really curious about her journey from becoming news broadcaster to president and KSW's journey from escort to prosecutor. Those would be really compelling stories to tell! But I'm guessing this drama will just brush over that. Anyways, the trailer looks amazing. KSW definitely looks infinitely better than his Cinderella Man self.
SKKS ruined the term Daemul for me. Now I can't see/hear it without giggling.

Woah. Is it just my screen or does it say "Dream of SangWoo" for everyone at the bottom right of the screen in the middle trailer? That's so funny! Makes me wonder how many subliminal messages are being sent when we watch our kdramas. "Eat chocolate now," "you need man kimchi," etc.
KSW is one of those guys who had me long stumped as to why he was considered good looking...but that was because I hadn't seen him act in anything. Now, I'll concede that he does seem to have good screen presence.
I remember Cha In Pyo from Star in My Heart. (That dates me!) Does anyone know where we can watch that online?

Ah late 90s K-drama. That blessed era where you count on your pretty boys on being REAL MEN. Also, this was kind of the golden era of the workplace K-drama, as stations were keen on showing Korea's economic growth and modernization (while showing gritty, violent stuff.)
Star in My Heart has a makjang plot worthy of Baker King, but much of it is grounded by workplace drama tropes. Even now, it FEELS new, partially because the actors come at the material with gritty, raw energy. Ahn Jae Wook is like the original Bidam. He makes your hairs stand on end. You feel alternative dazzled by and afraid for him. And when Choi Jin Shil (RIP) gets her Sophia on, the well-rote plot twist feels like a fun opportunity for her to break out of mode.

Dang! Her outfits are really BORING/ haven't seen anyone wear a bland gray suit like this since the 60's. This drama doesn't seem very trendy. I love GHJ and Cha In Pyo together;however, I'm not impressed with Kwon Sang Woo other than him taking off his shirt in every drama that he is in. i liked the 3 trailers , this don't look boring ,it can be interesting ,i am a teenager ,18 years old but i am open for dramas of older audiences ,the thing i don't like is melodrama or makjang ,so i wish this drama don't turn like that ,please i hope a good mix between happy and sad moments ,and not a melodrama which can be very emo (i think is unrealistic the life of characters which only suffer ,this life isn't the heaven but at the same time isn't a hell) ,i like how for example my girlfriend is a gumiho or dal ja's spring have the good and the bad ,if a drama is so sad ,the sadness i think don't have the same impact because is very common

What are up with some of your comments? hahah Such a downer. At the same time, the trailers didn't exactly sell the story to me but the fact that it's with Mishil (Go Hyun Jung...love her!) and Kwon Sang Woo, that alone is probably enough for me to keep me tuned in.
Plus, it's hopefully beyond the teeny BOF-like storyline that's been overdone. I'm ready for more mature storylines with mature characters. The only thing I'm worried about this Kdrama is unfortunately, not enough romance but too much political drama. We'll see though.

the most recent trailers make it seem too dramatic..."for the good of daehanmingook!" outdated dramatiz. of noble cause... and boring b/c i've already seen mishil in a political role and b/c i've seen enough of ksw's abs and his playboy characters..he's kinda flat as an actor and don't really know if he can bring anything new to the table....
ps i don't think skks is too teenybopper-y. i watch kdramas precisely because of the heartwarming quality and the romance. otherwise i'd just watch the more plot-centric american stuff.

Interesting comments. It's a different type of drama that's for sure. On the PK threads about ratings etc -- there's a lot of bashing of people who said that it's a drama for teens, and then I come here, and it's the reverse, I presume the youngsters are saying that this is more for the older crowd. I think both types (trendy/idol & the more serious) can find audiences in both age groups, although one may or may not lean more heavily towards one side. Luckily, as I said, there is something for everyone - cause there are a lot of dramas out there.
Anyhow, since I haven't seen the drama yet, I'll wait and see. I think it's promising. Their are very good actors in it, so I hope they can really use that.

Sure, you can freely express things, but it's still rude to declare that something is just for "old people." Just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean that other young people won't like it. I'm 22, and while I wasn't interested at first (I sort of loathe Kwon Sang-woo, for a variety of reasons), these trailers have actually piqued my interest, and now I'll probably end up watching it. And while its main intended audience MAY BE the ahjumma crowd, that doesn't mean some of the younger generation won't watch it and like it as well. Not everything can be a trendy drama.
Remember, no one's forcing you to watch it. If you don't like something, just say "This doesn't look like it's my sort of show" or "I'm not really interested in this plot, so I probably won't watch it" instead of automatically labeling it as something that no one in your age group would want to watch. People are all different, you know? :)

Eh. It's generational shift. The 87-89 generation of actors will dominate K-drama over the next 3 years, and then dramas from Binnie and Jung Ki will be for ajummas. FWIW it's a credit to this blog that we're really starting to see a change in the K-drama audience here.
Daemul is of course an ajumma drama. That's still the core audience from SBS, especially when they do their high budget event dramas ("War for Money", Lovers, etc.) For the last 3-4 years, SBS has used the Daemul project to land a K-drama actress with strong female fanbases, such as Lee Young Ae, Kim Hee Ae, and Go Hyun Jung. On paper, it's a glamorous project for an A-list lead.

I realized after Road No 1., that So Ji Sup was now officially an "ajumma actor." That was unsettling for me, because it means if I talk about MiSa and Bali, those are officially "old people" shows.
After the 82 generation (who will probably be all in the military by end of next year, including Hyun Bin and Rain) that's really the end of the Hallyu generation of actors brought in people with Samsoon, Goong, and My Girl.
Then, there's kind of vacuum with popular leads between 83 and 87. The new generation will be 87-ers like Lee Seung Gi, Jang Geun Suk, and Lee Min Ho. That's a 5 year gap, meaning that this generation may have accelerated opportunities in dramas.

I don't normally like politically themed drama, but this cast appeals to me, so I'm willing to check it out. Plus, it has a female president. What's the likelihood of that happening an a male dominated society like S. Korea?

And trendy dramas have its momentum, when it's over, everything is forgotten fast. In my case anyway.
