Check out the New York Korean Film Festival 2010

Good news for Korean film lovers in the New York area: The New York Korean Film Festival 2010 (NYKFF) will be screening eight Korean films from September 22 through October 3, at both the MoMA and Brooklyn Academy of Music.
It looks like a good lineup, too, and includes a lot of films I’ve been meaning to watch:
THE HOUSEMAID, the darkly comedic erotic thriller starring Jeon Do-yeon, Lee Jung-jae, and Seo Woo, which we’ve covered pretty extensively on this blog;
JEON WOO CHI, the fantasy-action-comedy starring Kang Dong-won as a freewheeling Taoist wizard — jealous! I’m dying to see this;
A FROZEN FLOWER, the erotic sageuk with Joo Jin-mo, Jo In-sung, and Song Ji-hyo, which Sevenses recapped/reviewed;
BESTSELLER, Uhm Jung-hwa’s ghostly horror-thriller;
GOOD MORNING, PRESIDENT, a warmly humorous film starring Jang Dong-gun as a handsome single president;
SISTERS ON THE ROAD, which stars Shin Mina and Gong Hyo-jin as half-sisters with a strained relationship;
LAND OF SCARECROWS, about a transgender artist who finds a wife in the Philippines; and
EIGHTEEN, which is about two eighteen-year-olds in love who can’t wait to turn nineteen, the age of legal majority, because their parents oppose the relationship.
There will also be Q&A sessions with three of the directors: Im Sang-soo (The Housemaid), Boo Ji-Young (Sisters on the Road), and Roh Gyeong-Tae (Land of Scarecrows).

Out of all the movies and the only one I watched was Bestseller,which interestingly is my most favourite korean movie of 2010.
It was packed with thrill,excitement,reality and I personally like an inch of harshness in it.Simply because reality is all worth like this.
I give my thumbs up to the director to film the scenes so simple yet tremendously fearful to us.To uhm jung hwa,this girl sure rocks every scene.And to the other casts too,they been a great bunch of actors.
My next-to-watch list might be the maid.But well,to people here,WATCH BESTSELLER!!!

It's good that A frozen flower is included in the line up.. It's one of best k-movie I've seen. JIS, JJM ans SJH are equally good.

Sounds like a lot of fun!! I'm about as far from New York as one can get in the US, but luckily I've already seen The Housemaid, Jeon Woo Chi, Bestseller, and Good Morning President... all of which were FANTASTIC. So sounds like it'll be a great line-up.

The only one I've seen of those is Jeon Woo Chi, which was FABULOUS. I've but meaning to see the others, but haven't gotten around to it yet. :/ Shame I'm not that close to NY, or I'd totally drop by.
Maybe I'll drop my old roommate a line, though, and let her know about it. I was just starting to get her addicted to Kdramas when she moved to NYC. :)

out of the eight i have only seen jeon woo chi, which i loved...KDW is simply amazing..."eighteen" seems interesting..the "housemaid" is so not my cup of tea...i rather watch something cheerful and upbeat like jeon woo chi....

Seen all of the movies except Sisters, Land of Scarecrows and Eighteen. Will try to see them later. Not really a fan of Uhm Jung Hwa, but I think she gave one of her best performances in Bestseller. Liked the original Housemaid better. Love Korean Movies. Totally original, unexpected
provocative plots, well written screen plays with excellent actors.

To be perfectly honest none of the movies appeal to me except the Housemaid and Bestseller...and maybe Sisters on th e Road which i've already seen so no point watching again....also the time is terrible with all the exams schedules fr next week....i ws meaning to go to this one this year... maybe nxt year

I so want to attend this festival but the possibility is nil.Hope any of these movies be shown here in Manila. Or better yet, hope we will have a Korean Filmfest here.

FYI - I don't know if this was mentioned elsewhere in this blog, but the New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center (Sept 24 - Oct 10) will also show two Korean films:

Add to this the Chuseok festival (at Randall's Island this year, I think) in early October, and it looks like my schedule could be pretty full of Korean-related events for the next few weeks.

GAH why did i have to move to the DMV??? Not for the first time, I wish I was still in Connecticut. Oh well, will have to catch them by myself, I guess. Or work for the AFI Theatre down the street and get them to screen some Korean movies... *goes off to her secret laboratory to scheme*. If any Korean movies get screened in Washington DC, someone let me know!

Nice! Really looking forward to this, though I'll definitely miss some classes. Boston's four hours from NY but I really enjoy the long road trips whenever I go there. Have already seen (err...downloaded) most of the films but nothing beats the warm and sweet experience of being inside a theater. :-)

GOOD MORNING, PRESIDENT
not sure it would be well received outside of Korea. As its basically a Korean flag waving movie and not much else, in fact it got really boring after a while. Way too long and and as I say I can not see it appealing to any other audience than a Korean one.

I LOVED the Taoist Wizard. Wow, people in NY are pretty lucky, because a lot of Japanese movies get aired their too. Man, I'm not a big city fan, but if Korean and Japanses Festivals are the prizes you get for living there, then I might have to think about moving.

"The Housemaid," so dark, so dark. I wish I hadn't seen the ending. I've now seen a Korean Adam's Family.
