Baker King actor booked on drunk driving, assaulting an officer
by javabeans
One of the actors of KBS’s hit drama Baker King Kim Tak-gu, 28-year-old Park Yong-jin, has been booked without detention on the charge of refusing to take a sobriety test and assaulting a police officer. Park plays Go Jae-bok in the drama, pictured above right.
The actual event occurred last month, according to the police department; at 7:40 am on August 18, Park was caught for running a traffic light. He attempted to escape, but was followed by the police officer, who pulled him over after a 2 km chase. The officer smelled alcohol on him, but Park refused to comply with a sobriety test. He followed that with abusive language and violence, “tearing the officer’s clothing,” and was also charged with obstructing an officer in the execution of his duties. According to the police rep, Park’s driver’s license is expected to be revoked soon.
What does this mean for Park as an actor? According to a press release by the Baker King Kim Tak-gu production put out on September 6, they have not yet been able to confirm the truth of these claims. One source with the drama said that if it turns out to be true, they will consider Park’s departure from the drama. “Currently we have not been able to make contact with him. If it turns out to be true, we will discuss whether he will leave.”
(You may recall a recent incident wherein actor Choi Chul-ho was caught on camera hitting a woman, which he first denied and then admitted to after footage was released. Choi left the drama he was working on at the time, Dong Yi, supposedly of his own volition (though one can’t help but wonder how much of it was decided by producers). Park may face a similar fate here.)
Another source said that Park Yong-jin has already filmed his scenes and wouldn’t be featured anymore anyway. However, the fact that producers have held meetings to decide whether to keep him on suggests that the issue isn’t as simple as that.

Eh, no biggie, he's just a minor character. As long as the main cast is still in place, it shouldn't matter if a minor character is removed.

Kwon Sang Woo got away. How? Couldn't those officers outrun him? He was on foot.
This guy should have done the same thing. Abandon his car, run away on foot and show up a day or two later, sober. Seems these police officers only chase a vehicle, not someone running.

Whether it is a minor character or a staff member who brings coffee, the fact that he was driving (allegedly) drunk is a HUGE deal. He was driving recklessly to the point where he ran a traffic light.
Yes, his character is not pivotal in the storyline of the drama, but we shouldn't brush off his reckless behavior.
And I'm off my soapbox now...

Stupid is as stupid does. Don't they have drivers in Korea that will drive them home if a person is too inebriated? Not only might you get into an accident, you could hurt someone else too. Not a good idea using abusive language and fighting with a police officer. If the story is true, he is in trouble.

I don't get why people are defending their idols if they did the wrong thing ?
If because it is given that they are idols, are you being biased or what ?
The police wouldn't have make up such case or actors will have do such things to make it happen!
So let's face it,they also do wrong things like us!

the effect of popularity...sometimes actors/actresses forget that they're human beings and citizens of this earth. they are still subject to abide the law!!!

Aww, this is just sad to read the comments that diminish his character as un-important and I hope he never reads such remarks, because that can't help in a situation in which his inappropriate behavior is getting the scrutiny. He may be at a personal or professional downswing anyway, and how is this helpful, mature, or relevant to his actual circumstances?
No one can live under this kind of microscope. Drinking beyond one's limit and doing anything is not a good idea, at least irresponsible, and sometimes criminal. Sounds like he needs help, not a wall of negativity. And thank God no one was hurt beyond what's reported, because how could he live with that?
He should face the consequences of his behavior, certainly, but bashing him or the role he has does not need to come into play, imo.

Given even the slightest hint of "wrongdoing" on the part of an actor in Korea tends to come with dire consequences.
While I'm not condoning his actions one doesn't necessarily need to be fired in order to "teach him/her a lesson." If he's guilty let the legal system dole out his punishment and allow him to move on with his life.

phew, i was afraid it was one of the main characters.
and some of you guys are misunderstanding. we're not saying his crime is less serious because he's an unimportant character. we're just glad that his stupidity isn't going to affect the drama. i'm really disappointed though, cause his character was a decent person. he's just lucky he didn't hit anyone.

i just read in Allkpop.com that the actor was dropped from the drama. the producers of the show decided to cut him off the show because they fear that the other casts would feel awkward and cause some tensions during the filming set.

i can't approve what he did but still i feel pity for him. of course he may have hurt or even killed someone while driving drunk, but it seems in korea actors don't have a right to make a mistake. they have to be careful otherwise they have to face the consequences. i know lots of celebrities who are caught like this but still goes on playing their present parts in usa or other countries. i'm not sure which method is better, it depends on the crime i think.

I think in the US, it more about the individual. What you do is your business and if you screw up, it doesn't taint everybody. In Asian culture, it's about the collective. You screw up and it reflects on everybody. Letting him stay on would be like saying 'we condone his actions' and you know how asian people like to assume things and put words into your mouth. And then the commercials that fund the drama would also hesitate and think 'we don't want people to think we condone a show that is cool with a drunk driver as a cast member'. Even if he were allowed to stay, I don't think he would have, out of respect for everyone there. He wouldn't have wanted to taint the drama or the actors and all their hard work. And I can totally see how it may be awkward. He wasn't only driving drunk, but was also resisting a sobriety test and was violent towards the arresting officers.
In the US, I can only think of an example when someone screw up (showed his true dark colors loud and clear) and didn't continue a show: During an argument with Patrick Dempsey, Isaiah Washington from Grey's Anatomy referred to TR Knight, who was gay, with the slur, "faggot", and his contract was not renewed for a new season.
