I suspect that there’ll be a lot of fan love for this episode for the most obvious reason, but I really enjoyed this episode because it finally pushes Jin-soo out of his stubborn emotional denial phase and into self-awareness. Finally, we get to see him being honest — not just with Eun-young, but also with himself. It’s also gratifying to see that He Who Always Thinks He’s Right realizes that maybe he’s not so right after all — and that his silly, hapless secretary is the one who sets him straight.

After being fired, Seung-yeon cries at the award venue, sitting on the steps long after the event has ended. Finally, she gets up and leaves, so that when Eun-young returns to check on her in concern, the place is empty.
Everyone assumes that Jin-soo has immediately skipped town for another of his years-long jaunts abroad, so when he calls the office the next morning, all the employees breathe a collective sigh of relief to hear he’s still in Seoul. He is going to drop by to see Eun-young, and the employees tense up at this, because they’ve got one last chance to change his mind before he officially dissolves their partnership.
While Jin-soo heads toward the book cafe, Eun-young talks business with her grandfather about expansion and new plans for the company. To her surprise, she has a visitor for lunch, invited by Grandpa the Matchmaker, who has purposely sprung this as a surprise.
The guy is a lawyer named Hyun-seok, with whom Eun-young was once set up. He’s still interested, but she hadn’t called him back and now makes the excuse that she was busy. But we know better.
Spotting this scene is a jealous Ji-won, who grabs Jin-soo on his way to the cafe and forces him to crouch around the corner stealthily. Ever one to misinterpret a scenario, Ji-won jumps to the conclusion that Eun-young had a new guy lined up, which is why she was so quick to kick him aside. Yep, that’s the only reason she’d ditch Ji-wan, suuure.
Burning up with indignation, Ji-won calls Hyun-seok a “jajangmyun-like guy” — he’s dark and greasy. HAHAHA. It’s not even much of an insult, but what makes it hilarious is that Ji-won thinks it is. Furthermore, he’s not just any ol’ jajang, but that cheap dollar-jajang they sold near school. Jin-soo feels uncomfortable being dragged into this, and points out that he’s hardly on Ji-won’s “side” either, but Ji-won retorts, “I hate you, but you’re better than him.”
Ji-won sends Jin-soo to find out more, and Jin-soo makes his perfunctory greeting, telling Eun-young that he’ll be waiting in her office. However, it turns out that Hyun-seok is a huge fan of Jin-soo’s and excitedly introduces himself, even going so far as to cling to Jin-soo’s hand awkwardly.
Forcing politeness, Jin-soo extricates himself and heads to Eun-young’s office. When she follows a few minutes later, her employees all plead with her to take this last chance to grab onto him and keep their contract.
They’re back to their default setting, which is polite tones, friendly words, and that veneer of lightheartedness that belies that there’s anything darker or murkier going on beneath the surface. Eun-young says that she had assumed he had left the country by now, to which he says that he had initially thought to give up on this manuscript, but changed his mind because he’s so close to finishing. He’s done with the first draft and needs another month to complete the book.
Eun-young mentions Seung-yeon, but Jin-soo shuts her down firmly, stating that there’s no reason for Eun-young to concern herself with her. Seung-yeon crossed the line, and that’s that. At those familiar words, Eun-young muses, “Why are there so many women who foolishly cross the line with you?”
Understanding that Jin-soo’s here to finalize their contract termination, she grabs the paper and readies herself to sign. The mood grows tense as she contemplates this move, and she acknowledges that the moment she signs, she loses several billions of won (millions of dollars). With a shaking voice, she holds her coffee cup over the papers, joking-but-not-really-joking about whether she ought to just spill it over the documents.
But no, Jin-soo takes the cup from her grasp, and she starts to sign. As her hand poises over the paper, a tear drops on it, and Jin-soo looks at her face to see more tears falling. Her signature smears on the page.
Jin-soo wipes the tear away with a tissue, and one falls on his hand, too. Trying to make light of the moment, Eun-young jokes that she must really love money, based on her reaction. As she gets up to make copies, Jin-soo contemplates the tears on his hand.
Regaining her composure, Eun-young extends a hand to him, saying that they may as well shake on what was a pretty successful partnership.
Jin-soo agrees to clear out the studio by the end of the week, as he has found a new office and will complete his work there. It’s the office of a university professor friend who won’t be using it for the next semester.
Jin-soo gives her an awkward little wave goodbye, and even tries to make a joke as he leaves, warning her teasingly to make sure that her date is actually straight, since it seemed he was much more interested in him than her. After his exit, Eun-young sighs heavily, her composure slipping just a bit.
Jin-soo packs up his belongings upstairs and hands back his key, only to realize that the second key is still in Seung-yeon’s possession. A bit hesitantly, he asks whether she has been by, but the employee (Dong-min) doesn’t know.
While Jin-soo settles into his new office, Dong-min contacts Seung-yeon to ask about the second key.
She has returned to working her father’s coffee shop. Hearing from a customer that her coffee is much better than her father’s, she wonders if this means she learned a thing or two after all.
Dong-wook is also at the cafe, playing Go-Stop with Seung-yeon’s father and grandmother. Seung-yeon asks if it’s really okay for him to be here, which isn’t a rude question but is hardly something you’d ask if you wanted him to stay.
When Dong-min calls about the key, Seung-yeon perks up mightily to hear that Jin-soo has not yet left the country. Insistent that she has to meet him, she asks for his new address. Her interest in Jin-soo’s whereabouts isn’t romantic, but still I can’t help but feel sorry for Dong-wook because it’s clear (to us) that her heart isn’t in their relationship.
Seung-yeon shows up at the professor’s office, pleading for a chance to say her piece. In an emotionless voice, Jin-soo cuts her off, telling her that he knows what she’s going to say, so let’s skip the part where they waste time and just cut to the chase. He gives her the answer she’d get even if he listened to her speech, which is that the book will come out without her, and he neither has the room nor the need to re-hire his secretary.
Jin-soo advises her to spend her time looking for a new job, and reminds her that his decision to cut her loose wasn’t made in the heat of the moment. Therefore she has no hope of changing his mind through tears or pleas.
Dismissing her coolly, he shuts the door before Seung-yeon can even say anything.
Still, she isn’t about to give up, and sits down outside the door to wait in the school hallway. When Jin-soo emerges to go on an errand, she tries to talk to him again. Contrary to his expectation, she’s not here to ask him for her job back — all she wants is a moment of his time. He’s a little mollified to hear that she’s not here to beg for him to take her back, and grants her 30 seconds.
This catches Seung-yeon off-guard and she protests that 30 seconds isn’t enough time. Jin-soo replies that if she can’t figure out how to state her case in 30 seconds, then having 30 minutes won’t be any better. Furthermore, she’d do well to note that opportunities are not given to suit our preferences.
He rides off on his bike, and after a moment, Seung-yeon chases. When he pulls up to a building (library?), she catches up to him, gasping for breath and sweating from exertion. She requests the 30 seconds again, but this time he only gives her 20. Go!
Spurred by the (literal) ticking clock, Seung-yeon blurts out in a flurry of words:
Seung-yeon: “I’m sorry. As a secretary I overstepped my bounds. At first I felt wronged, but after a few days I realized you were right. I’m not professional and I’m a bad secretary. I’m really sorry. I hope you can remember that I am sorry. I was really depressed at the thought that you already left to go abroad and I’d never get to tell you this. I’m glad that I have the chance to apologize.”
Ding! She wraps up just as her 20 seconds end. Jin-soo’s surprised at the content of her speech, not understanding her purpose. Why did she chase him down all this way just to say that, when she knows it won’t change a thing? What’s the difference between saying those words and not saying those words?
Seung-yeon answers, “Even if the situation doesn’t change, feelings do. There’s a difference between you knowing and not knowing how I feel, that I’m sorry instead of upset and feeling wronged. I think there’s a huge difference.”
Those words bring him up short — her way of thinking directly counters his way of thinking, but her words make a certain sense and have an impact on him. So when Seung-yeon says that the end part of her speech got shortened (she’d been prepping for 30 seconds as she ran), he grants her an additional 10 seconds to finish what she’d intended.
Seung-yeon: “I’m disappointed that I had to quit without properly learning the three things you gave me to do. I only managed the pencils but not the coffee or the fossil book and I’m really sorry about that, too.”
Since she has now said everything she wanted to say, Jin-soo sends her off. As he heads into the building, he wears a conflicted expression, like he doesn’t quite know what to make of her. He even pauses on his way in, looking back at her, but he hardly knows what to say. (Seung-yeon, meanwhile, is pleased to have successfully gotten that off her chest.)
Working late that night, however, he thinks back to her words — in particular the comment about the fossil book. He doesn’t know what she’s talking about, and he has to think for a few minutes before he even remembers that fool’s errand he sent her on when he first hired her — to summarize and translate the entire reference book on fossils.
Jin-soo scoffs, incredulous that she still remembered his request, but even as he dismisses it as foolishness, I’m betting he’s just a bit impressed.
When he grabs a drink from the fridge, his mind turns to more troubling thoughts as the drink spills on his hand, reminding him of Eun-young’s spilled tears.
Eun-young has a meeting with Dong-wook to discuss changes to the cafe. The scene isn’t very important in this episode, but I suspect it’ll be a bigger point later so I’m including it: she plans to expand the book part and cut back on the kitchen. This idea meets with resistance from Dong-wook, who insists that despite being a book cafe, the cafe part comes first.
This meeting is interrupted by the reappearance of Mr. Jajangmyun, aka Hyun-seok the lawyer. His arrival is a surprise, but with Grandpa’s approval he has come to take Eun-young to lunch — a move which she agrees to reluctantly.
I love how the three cafe baristas huddle together to judge the new complication (you get the sense that they enjoy their boss’s drama as a source of entertainment). They find Hyun-seok even sleazier than Ji-won, deciding, “He’s sleazy in a different way.”
Aware of these lunch plans, Ji-won accosts Jin-soo at school and drags him along so they can crash the couple’s lunch date. Jin-soo protests, but Ji-won overrides his reluctance and urges him along: “Jajangmyun seemed to like you. Let’s join them.”
Eun-young knows right away that this is no coincidence, but Hyun-seok accepts their “We just happened to be here and saw you guys” excuse and agrees to join parties. In fact, he’s eager to sit down with Jin-soo, and fawns all over him.
The mood gets awkward as Ji-won behaves blatantly rudely to Hyun-seok, goading him with thinly veiled insults and grasping at straws to put him down. For instance, he laughs at Hyun-seok’s “comical” name, which is like laughing at “John Smith” for being unusual.
Hyun-seok has no idea why he’s being attacked, but he ignores Ji-won as he continues to praise Jin-soo’s novels, calling him a genius.
All the while, Jin-soo accepts the praise uneasily, just hoping for a quick end to this lunch from hell. Eun-young also scrambles for an excuse to leave; she slips away from the table to call Hyun-joo, begging an emergency rescue.
When Hyun-seok steps aside for a phone call, Jin-soo tells Ji-won to cut it out. Ji-won argues that he doesn’t like him, either — can he stand that guy dating Eun-young? As friends, they can’t allow this to happen.
Another reconfiguring of the lunch table leaves Jin-soo and Eun-young alone for a moment, and Jin-soo takes the opportunity to apologize to Eun-young for the intrusion.
Eun-young, on the other hand, asks why Jin-soo had introduced her to Ji-won all those years ago. He must have seen good points about Ji-won to have set them up together, so what were they? Jin-soo doesn’t have a good answer (I suspect because he’s not ready to confront it), and jokes that Ji-won’s audaciousness is one such trait.
Eun-young asks, “Do you know why I dated him? Because he’s the person you introduced me to. I trusted you.” She figured at the time that Ji-won must have been a good guy. However, the thought occurred later that Jin-soo had just foisted him on her without a thought. Isn’t that right? She sighs, “Starting back then, I mistook you for being as sincere as I was.”
Ji-won’s dick-waving contest gets literal when he finds Hyun-seok in the bathroom, standing at a urinal. He makes a deliberate show of looking over and laughing, and finally Hyun-seok can’t keep up his polite front and calls him out: “What’s your deal?”
Ji-won is just the sort of ridiculous guy who would get offended at being addressed so impolitely when he’s actually being much worse, and he bristles, getting all up in Hyun-seok’s face. The argument escalates until Jin-soo arrives at the doorway and steps in to pull the men apart.
Ji-won assumes that Jin-soo’s here on his side, but instead Jin-soo punches him and yells at him to cut it out. And that screencap below? It’s worth it just for the ridiculous expression on Hyun-seok’s face. HA!
Affronted, Ji-won sputters that he’s the sunbae (and therefore deserves respect), but Jin-soo yells, “You have to act like a sunbae to be a sunbae!”
Now the hostilities switch to Jin-soo and Ji-won, who take the brawl out of the bathroom and out of doors. In a weird twist, now Hyun-seok is the one shouting at them to calm down and stop fighting. This leaves Eun-young sitting alone at their table, and she learns from a phone call with Hyun-seok that the other two are brawling like idiots.
However, the aforementioned idiots hear enough to realize that Hyun-seok is about to direct Eun-young to their whereabouts, and Jin-soo leaps at him to snatch away the phone before he can do that. Eun-young wants to drive around the neighborhood, but Hyun-joo vetoes this idea, as she is running late for a business appointment.
Eventually Hyun-seok leaves, and the two men continue going at each other with all they’ve got. It makes sense that Ji-won the ex-boxer is “winning,” although both are in pretty rough shape by the end of it.
All the while, they continue to yell back and forth. Jin-soo growls all sorts of things at Ji-won — that he’s inconsiderate, selfish, crazy. He demands, “Do you know how much I regretted introducing Eun-young to you?”
Finally, they collapse in exhaustion, at which point Ji-won wonders, “Hey, where did that punk Jajangmyun go?”
Jin-soo, on the other hand, thinks back to Seung-yeon’s words about explaining herself despite there being no hope of changing her circumstances. He also recalls Eun-young’s remark about his lack of sincerity.
Suddenly, these words click in his brain — until now they’d been niggling at him, as though asserting their importance but not revealing exactly WHY they’re important. Now they crystallize into coherence, and Jin-soo is suddenly energized. Staggering to his feet, he walks on, then breaks into a run.
His destination is the book cafe, where the employees all gasp to see his disheveled appearance. He ignores their concern and beelines for the bookshelf, finding the fossil book that he’d assigned to Seung-yeon. Only now, the book is practically bursting at the seams, because the pages have been padded with Post-it notes and memos.
Stunned and a little amazed at the extent of her thoroughness, Jin-soo calls Seung-yeon and takes a gruff tone with her, asking why she wasted her time continuing with an obviously pointless exercise. Is she that dense? Did she actually think this project was meant to help his manuscript?
But he can’t argue with her answer: “But you never told me not to.” She knew that he wouldn’t need it, but he never told her to stop the work.
Jin-soo has to laugh — how absurd, how unexpected, how crazy of her. Referring to the seven reasons he outlined for firing her, he orders her to come up with a rebuttal — i.e., reasons not to be fired.
In a stern voice, he admonishes her for not distinguishing between what’s real and what’s not, and says that a pro must be able to reason with the other person to make him understand.
When Seung-yeon says she doesn’t know if she can come up with those reasons, he barks, “Then make them up. Didn’t you learn how to lie from me?”
Next, Jin-soo heads up to the office to look for Eun-young, only to hear that she just left on a business trip. Just as she is about to board the train with her team, she answers her phone. Jin-soo pants, out of breath from running, “Are you on the train?”
Eun-young starts to ask him about his lunchtime fight, but Jin-soo cuts her off, saying urgently, “I have something to tell you. I’ve told you a lot of lies before, but I think I have to tell you about this.”
Jin-soo: “It wasn’t because of a man’s instinct, but because you’re Seo Eun-young that I kissed you. I lied to you that day. I’m sorry. But, even considering that, I have to leave you — so forget me forever. I can’t erase Hee-soo and see only you. I don’t think it will work even if I try. To me, seeing you forever means having her by my side forever, too. This is a disease. I know that, but I can’t help it.”
She says, “If you leave me entirely, that means you can leave Hee-soo behind, then.” He answers, “That thought came to me suddenly, so that’s why I called you.”
With a rueful smile, Eun-young says, “You should have told me earlier. Don’t you know I’m on your side? What do you take me for?” Jin-soo tells her that that he’ll give this book to her: “That’s yours.”
Eun-young replies that that sounds like the words of a guy who’s indebted to her. They banter a bit, and she teases him that all his words sound like they actually mean other things to her — because he has gone so long concealing his true feelings, now everything he says sounds like it lacks sincerity.
Jin-soo: “I mean it.”
Eun-young: “Not 100%. I wonder if I’ll be able to see Lee Jin-soo being 100% sincere before I die. Just… for even a minute, were you ever 100% sincere with me?”
Those words have an impact on Jin-soo, and there’s a moment between them that’s pregnant with expectation. However, final boarding call is announced, and Eun-young has to get on the train, so she starts to wrap up the call.
Seizing this moment, Jin-soo tells her intently, “One minute can be bigger than ten years. Will that do?”
She’s confused, not getting his meaning. Jin-soo hangs up the phone and starts running — he had been calling from a pay phone at the train station. Now he dashes down the stairs, over the turnstile, and down the platform, just as Eun-young sighs and boards the train.
Jin-soo reaches the open door just a moment later and pulls her back for a kiss.
(And hot damn if that isn’t one of the hottest kisses I’ve ever seen in a kdrama! He’s panting from running and out of breath and all urgent with the importance of this moment, and the kiss is loaded with all of that meaning.)
As they pull back, Eun-young asks, “This is 100 percent, isn’t it?” He gives her a tiny nod, still breathing hard and looking intensely at her.
Eun-young tells him, “That’s enough, then.”
Then her train starts to pull away, forcing them to step back. They look out at each other as the train blurs out of focus.
COMMENTS
First off, this episode clears up a few lingering questions. Such as whether Jin-soo had feelings for Eun-young, which is a very clear YES. Eun-young had been more in touch with her feelings for Jin-soo, both recently and (I believe) in the past. The line was clearer for her, I think, because it appears that Jin-soo was married when she knew him — they missed their timing and thereafter he was off-limits to her. When he introduced her to his sunbae, she trusted his judgment, as she tells him this episode — but I think there’s even more behind it.
As his single friend, the younger Eun-young has this knowledge that this man cares for her — not in “that way,” but enough that he looks out for her happiness. So why not make the best of that and accept that as the most you can take from him, and try to be happy? This line of reasoning is one that feels especially real, and I can say from experiences in my life that I recognize the ring of truth in it.
On the other hand, I think Jin-soo got rid of Eun-young because he couldn’t have her, and therefore set her up with Ji-won to neutralize the situation. The sooner she was coupled up with someone else — anyone, it didn’t matter — the more at ease he could feel about it. Alas, he didn’t realize at the time that she’d forever be linked with his wife in his memory — not because he may have had feelings for her back then but because she was part of the past they shared. I think that’s why he also is so insistent that he never wanted to see Ji-won again, either — because Ji-won likewise reminds him of the past. So at that point, his feelings for Eun-young are moot — it didn’t matter that they existed because they could never be acted upon.
I wonder if this is also why Jin-soo keeps running away from Seoul — he can’t have a normal life being around Eun-young regularly, because it’s a sort of self-torture.
This is the first time I really loved Seung-yeon as a character (finally!), because not only does she grow on a personal level, she jolts Jin-soo out of his emotional stasis and provides the catalyst for him to realize that maybe his way of thinking isn’t the only (or the right) way. All along he has been thinking that he and Eun-young won’t work out, and it doesn’t matter WHY it won’t work as long as it won’t. In his mind, if the end result can’t happen, then there’s no need to understand the whys and wherefores, or to explain them. What’s the point? It’s a very male way of thinking, and another aspect that rings very true. He only sees the other side when Seung-yeon explains that even when a situation won’t change, how you feel about it matters. And that pushes him to finally show his sincerity to Eun-young.
Great way to tie in the various threads.

yesssssssss! finally JS had snapped out of his senses and decided to put his heart out of his sleeves. this episode made my heart flutters and i can't keep on saying... FINALLY!
and oh my! they JS and EY look good together! i am rooting for this pairing and if ever the pairing will go towards JS-SY... i don't think i can tolerate that! (LOL)
but heck! the kissssssssssssssssss!!! way to go! kyaaaaaaaaaaa

unlike those cliche kisses like at the heat of the moment. you're beautifu had one or two too! and coffee house certainly up-ped its level with another original kiss!

I don't think Eun Young liked him but met him after he got married. That doesn't make sense. We saw a flashback of their university days. Eun Young and Ji Won seemed to be together already, and Ji Soo seemed to be the one getting in the way. His cheerfulness and bantering around Eun Young in that flashback didn't look like it was from a married person who wanted to keep a distance after pushing the girl to another guy. It might have been the other way around - that Ji Soo liked Eun Young, but didn't think she liked him back or was too scared to lose her as a friend - and hence introduced someone else to her. When that actually worked out, he was sad but found comfort in her best friend Hee Soo... This would lead to a failed marriage and it was NOT because he started liking someone after getting married already. I think it was just that they were young and didn't understand their own feelings well.

At the moment, I'm in a jam-packed term break (2 weeks!!). I've barely got time to breathe (with things like Brain Bee to study for *darn*)!! But this recap was my oxygen :) Lovely. Thanks Javabeans :)

Much to the dismay of most of the above posts, I still believe the "90% rule of kdrama" applies here. (90% of all relationships can be determined by who touched lips first on the show). That means the fake CPR scene many many episodes back with the secretary, determined the love line of this show. She has to grow up in general, and he has to grow up emotionally so that they can finally be ready for a relationship together.
We have 5 more episodes to go, and I am betting this is where it heads. I would be surprised if any more physical contact or even emotionally vulnerable contact happens between Jin-soo and Eun Young. They have FINALLY said their piece and ended that chapter of unspoken longing. He can't be with her and that was their astronomically cathartic goodbye.
I won't hate the show if I am right and I won't hate it if I am wrong. So far it has been too good for that.

I love this Drama, N really want EY/JS to be together bt the way things are going right now.....hmmmm makes me lose hope for them.
The writers are brillant. I mean Ive watched so many Kdramas n Cld tell after few eps whose going to end up wit who. Bt this drama is soooo different n tht makes it entertaining.
The pairing isnt even tht important anymore,
Cant wait for the nxt suprise....

YOUCH. wowza. i was a bit taken aback at the end of your recap, because i missed the nod in response to her question of whether he was 100%, i thought the movement was just more panting. so i thought her response of it's fine, then, was her saying never mind, then and i was disappointed. but this works much better, lol. it's such a great point for the train to move and separate them too, because they've finally reached a turning point, a milestone after so many years; their comfortable, easy pattern and denial of feelings has come to a standstill and to a conclusion of sorts. whatever they become next, they have no choice but to become something else, to develop, to move on.
i also love the love triangle because the importance of that threeway isn't in the love triangle at all. i love that he can have important relationships with both women, and that the fact that he doesn't have a romantic interest in seungyeon doesn't make her any less important. all three are linked, in fact, it's not really team SY/JS and team EY/JS, despite what many shippers think, lmao. eunyoung's comment about their relationship being confusing/messed up because they didn't have a secretary actually might be true! ^^
i also have to agree with the people saying eunyoung is an inspiration. wonderfully real, a great role model but flawed at the same time. her and everyone else too, actually, act and react just like real people, not predictably as most drama characters, but naturally. it's wonderful.

Finally! Thank heavens JS that he finally admitted the truth as to why he cannot be w/ EY which Im at peace! As mentioned before that EY is really his soulmate but cannot be w/ her because EY sets him back to his past which he needs to move on from. So whatever the writters decides to do with their relationship which I know will be major, this episode pacifies me, so go ahead as long he doesn't die of some fatal illness or drug overdose!
As per SY Im sure her "dumb" approach to her chracter had to be a front. As I see it she's the only one sincere and not beating-around-the-bush person in their love triangle! And although she plays a young secreatary here she has more wisdom-without-tragedy attach to her character. More innocent and has more freedom to make mistakes! So I dont mind her beaing around JS to set him straight!

Before I comment anything futher, I just want to say PSY is GORGEOUS here!!!
Most of her outfit are chic, comfy, and effortless yet fashionable too, which give me an impression that she is a down to earth and easy going woman..
And is it just me or her acting is justt super- duper convincing her here?
I couldnt stop crying after their good bye kiss , watching EY looking at him and saying "That's enough!!!". As the train started moving , "Smill you " was played as it s' speaking her inner thoughts" ... I am letting you fly to the sky since it 'd make you happy. As long as you re happy, I'll simile... even I 'm feel like dying...." .This song seems to be wrote for her and her love to SY, epecially in this farewell.: She loved him then, she loves him now, and she'd be on his side whenever he need her without asking anything in return but ackowledge his sinceriry for once. As long as he's happy , she 'd be happy as well,even if it is a parting for them...
(Oh gosh!!! ** I am crying again , just recalling the scene**)
There are so much emotion in the last scene with so little words and barely movement. It was so powerful that my heart coulldnt breathe for a few seconds... Like I feel so sad and diappointed for them. Ten years to 1 minute? A minute that more significan than 10 yrs? But ...How many ten year that a woman coulld have ( not to mention 20- 30' 10 years" is the most beautiful period of a woman life) Yet, a minute is enough for EY!!! She loves him that much and he loves her too . But they had to burry their feeling deep down all this long , pretending to be indifferent toward each other feeling. It's like they were torturing themselves as they both knew that you cant have it but unable to let it go; so they have to face and be indifferent to their heart-broken wound. everyday. That is some serious suffering they had...
I found that her esxpression on the train isnt the same when she was in the office signing off the contract with JS . She was uncontrollably flooding in tears while having a hard time keep her cover up reasoning. This time she looks more peaceful, calmer and definitely softer mixing with a slide of sadness and surprise. Moreover, I think she 's finally ready to move on and free JS since she got what she wanted just now... Idk, I feel for both sence but a lot more on this one ,where she didnt cry neither show how frutrated and sad she really is. Maybe the fact that EY charater is so selfless, who was just eary to to satisfy with that 1 minute of JS sincerity, I love her more and feel more for the pain that she is hiding. Now he told her that he needs to leave her to be able to move one. He even admitted his love for her and showed her the how sincere he is for once ... She should be happy because he finally grew up and chose his path. She should feel pleased since he no longer has to depend on her to live on but he could finnally stand on his feet , which she keeps praying for. She should glad because they dont have to torture each other with all the insincere jokes or lies . She should feel fortunate because he loves her, just like the way she loves him. She should be delighted since the reason he kissed her was his love to her. She shall feel lucky for the fact that he has been there for her for all these years; and even recalling those bitter-sweet memories they 've share together , she 'll smile. And of course, she cant cry and be sad because , - "it depresses him to see her depressed" . She has to smile and be cool because he likes that about her. she cant be hurt/ or act on it because if he finds out, he may not able to leave her and go on his own path . She doesnt want to be his burden but his support ,a blessing, a shoulder for him to lean when he 's tired or troubled ; therefore, she need to be happy.. . She has so many reasons not to cry , but smile . When she smile, he ll smile too ,as he always watch over her. She cant cry but have to smile. For both of them, for their love, she smiles.
**And I keep crying nonstop!!!**
EY deserves to be HAPPY, VERY HAPPY , more than anyone in this drama. Why cant they be together when they love each other that much. Why can't he lets go the past? Even though I understand what JS 's been though, but why is he so selfish? He has been hurting her all these years. Now he told her that he love her but aslo asked her to forget him and then kissed her with 100% sincerety. How should she feel? How can she forget ? She have been doing so much for him all these years but what have he done for her beside hurting her over and over again? How do you deserve EY love, JS? When will you learn to make the woman loves you happy????

This depature was so overwhelming for me even though it doesnt seem like it should have beenThe moodflow intergrated with the beautiful soundtrack, help to increase the significance for the scence. And of course KJH kiss is a major push behind all emtional appeals here. This guy just got hotter everyday. The kiss was so well one by wonderful performance OF KJH and PSY as we can feel the raw yet passionate emotionThot Kiss by KJH and PSY excellent performance with raw and pasionate emotion.
This is the best couple of 2010 for me!!!! and hopefully 2 more kisses will be on the way
If this couple wont end up together at the end, I think I wont watch K-drama again...

has anyone realized that this drama is based off a book?
also. whoever said 90% rule of korean drama is right! even though i dont think its the "first lips kiss" for me its the first two main characters that show up in the first episode in the drama.
theres too much about sy's life & family, etc. the drama has shown way too much about SY! which means.. she's 100% the one that JS is going to end up with.
this kiss is closure! fo sho. i just wish the writers hadn't made the JS-EY loveline so strong because it confuses people. at least now, maybe the JS-SY connection will be even better.

I'm happy and sad... happy for obvious reasons -- the kiss, Jin Soo's sincerity. But sad at the same time that this is it for EunSoo. They've had their closure. *sigh* I know I said I'll be satisfied as long as JS admits his true feelings... but I guess I'm selfish and also human nature dictates that we never get satisfied, because now I want more than that, and besides this is only episode 11.
Also that statement from the PD about changes on episode 12 (as mentioned by chacha) makes me nervous. There are 5 (haven't seen 12 yet) episodes left, I still want to see more squeal-inducing scenes between JS and EY.

Didn't see that kiss coming (I remember with the phone booth kiss, I knew it was coming because I had read about it on Yahoo news. Darn you spoilers!!) but because I didn't see it coming, it was so intense and super sexy!

Hopefully now that they've established their love for one another, they can work around their problems and get together? PLEASE!!!! LET THEM END UP TOGETHER!!!!!!!
Although I could see now how they would refocus on Seung Yeon and Jin Soo's love story? Idk if that makes any sense but now that they've established that Eun Young and Jin Soo can't be together, does that mean Seung Yeon has a chance now? I hope not!
AHHH drama just tell us who ends up with who. Although not knowing might be the exact charm of this drama!

Oh Gosh.... I would slap JS face, yell really loud.... get a grip, grow-up, take responsibility for you life.
So for 10 years JS is afraid to own up to whatever he did ? ? ? ? and in the process makes EY life a horrible living hell ?
I know it is just a TV show but..... if JS ends up with SY I will throw-up. The innocent, simple girl ending up with the older jaded man because she shows him the way to unlock his " truuuuuuuuuuu " feelings..... while the woman who has stuck by him gets left behind so HE can be free ?
The writers are falling back on the cliches again, no ?
Oh gag me with a spoon....
After that rant I do think the show is pretty great, I like all the characters who are not the main ones, DW for one and even JW. he is so over the top and I do know people just like him.

I wrote in my previous post how I want EUNSOO's problems to be solved: with Eun Young taking the initiatives to fight for their love. Although that's how I want their issues to be solved. I don't really like that scenario. It reminds me of how Zhao Min (she's my favourite female character eve!) Has to fight for her love all by herself while the bastard Zhang Wuji (he's number 1 on my list of the most hated male lead character) does absolutely nothing (she practically has to drag him away from his own wedding!)
Sorry for digressing, but this episode is like my wildest dream comes true! I mentioned before how this show has changed my feelings towards its leads. I used to hate PSY and have no particular feelings for KJW. But, CH has changed that. I love both of them now!
This show is awesome! If it maintains its level of excellence I think it's going to be my favourite KDrama ever!
And JB thanks again not only for posting your recap so quickly, but also for relaying your take on EUNSOO's past as well. Not that I entirely agree with you, but I notice that it bothers some of you like real bad that I wrote Jin Soo married his wife while he was still very much in love with Eun Young.
But as I'm going to write about Jin Soo, this one will be a continuation of what I've written before. Before I start I just have to say this :
"Jin Soo I love you! Very very much! More than words can say!"
This writing is dedicated to you!
Jin Soo part two:
Jin Soo suddenly feels the weight of his charade. He's done. What has to be done but why it still feels so hard? If he's being honest with himself its because he doesn' want to do what he did.
Yes, SY is useless. But having her as his secretary has been fun. Although she's far from smart she's eager to learn and hard working. It amused him when she told him she wanted to be a pro and would do everything in her power to accomplish her goal.
Well, she won't be able to do that. But, working with him and with Eun Young around who knows she might be able to learn a thing or two from them.
But just when he started to feel rather proud of her little improvement, SY forgets the most important lesson he taught her : loyalty. He took extra pain to teach her that her loyalty was supposed to be with him!
Oh, he knows she means well - like Eun Young who noted how kind SY is and told him that she likes her a lot, he knows SY is kind and despite his many shouting at her he also likes his foolish secretary - but that doesn't really change anything! She ruins whatever little chance he has to be close to Eun Young and she also destroys whatever little trust and hope that he has for her to be a better secretary.
He doesn't want to fire his secretary and he sure as hell doesn't want to sign that contract dissolution last night!
There's something strange in the way Eun Young just sit there quietly. He doesn't think it's a mere shock. Yes, he'll see her tomorrow and tell her that he'll stay here for a few more days to prepare. To finish his book.
But as much as he wants to see her to make sure that she's all right....he doesn't want to see her. He's afraid of facing her again of having to say and to do what he has to do.
As if that task isn't hard enough, he has to have the bad luck of encountering JW on his way. Nothing seems to work for him lately. But with more important matters on his mind, namely preparing himself for his one on one with Eun Young, JW is only a small pebble on the rocky mountain.
Facing Eun Young is even harder than he thinks. Maintaining his non chalant facade nearly killed him. Particularly when he sees her tears. When he sees how difficult it is for her. His Eun Young....his precious, strong and proud Eun Young cries because of him! And when those tears started to fall on the back of his hand.....
He has to get out of there. Fast!
He'll forget it soon. And Eun Young will bounce back even sooner than he can forget.
But he should know by now that nothing is going right for him the moment he sees JW. That bastard has the gull to drag him to Eun Young date! Her date! He had enough difficulty controlling his emotions when he heard her grandpa mentioning her blind date and her getting married without having to witness the dreadful event himself! How could he be there? And how could he be JW's accomplish to destroy her happiness when he refuses to give one to her?
That bastard JW! He should have just killed him right away or dump him to their neighboring counry when he has the chance to do it.
He might be able to control himself and finish the luncheon without a glitch if he didn't learn that the reason Eun Young dated JW was because JW was introduced by him. Because she trusted his judgement. That's when he snapped!
The rage that he feels at himself and at that cheating bastard could no longer be contained. He's really going to kill that sorry excuse of a man now! He's going to finish him off for good! And who knows he might be successful in killing himself in the process!
But nothing really works the way he wants it to work. Nothing! Even now in the middle of their mortal combat he remembered what happened yesterday when SY came to see him.
Firing a lousy secretary is supposed to be the simplest thing in the world, however with his luck lately this has proven to be a task. SY is being true to her form He has noticed that when he has lost hope with her she comes up with something to win his grudging admiration and approval.
This time she comes back with something big. It takes him sometimes before he fully accepts the truth in what she said. His foolish secretary is not that foolish after all at least not when it comes to being honest with your own feelings.
Now, while he's lying on the ground panting with pains and exhaustion, feeling like he's really dying, he finally understands his mistakes. His biggest mistake. He has hurt the only person who matters most to him with his lies. He hurts the only woman whom he loves with his whole heart. He has hur the one whom he loves more than himself? And all because he's afraid the truth will hurt her!
How could he hurt her when all that he wants to do is to make her happy? Why he keeps hurting her when he could make her extremely happy simply by telling her how he feels about her! By being honest with her for once!
His foolish secretary has earned his eternal gratidute. He'll make her a perfect secretary even if it turns all his hair gray!
His body is aching all over, but he's never been this happy! He needs to see Eun Young now!
But his happiness is dampened when he learnt that Eun Young has left. A sudden chill seeps into his bones. This is not right! She can't leave before she hears him telling her how much he loves her. Really, really loves her.
The only way to reach her now is through the phone, so he called her telling his biggest secret on the phone. But something in the way she talks scares him. She sounds so calm. Just like in the limo last night. Where's her usual enthusiasm?
And then it hits him hard!
She doesn' believe him! Finally, when he's being honest with her she doesn't believe him!
If he thinks he's been afraid before. Nothing compares to how he feels at that moment. He doesn't know he could run that fast not when his lungs are burning with exhaustion. But the fears burning inside his chest are more painful than his burning lungs. He couldn't let her go like this! He could't let her go thinking he doesn't love her! Not when he loves her more than anything in the world. How could she leave him when he couldn't live without her! So he runs for his life...
But the only thing he could do when he reaches her is to pull her towards him and kisses her with all the passions he's been hiding inside his heart all these years. He kisses her with the desperate longing that he feels. He kisses her with all the hunger and needs he always feels for her. He kisses her with the honesty he never showed her before. He loves her. Oh, how much he loves her!
But when their kisses ended, when she slowly open her eyes and then calmly and rather sadly says she believes him.....
When he sees the way she looks at him as the train takes her away he feels these excrutiating pains in his chest....

interesting development (specially when you read the spoiler of eps 12)
looking forward to see more mature SY.....hmm....
as much as I enjoy EY/JS relationship, could not help the feeling that it's to 'heavy/tiring' for JS (before he learns to show his sincerity//real inner feeling)
and now, as his state of mind is near normal, he can choose both ways.
(though I personally prefer him with SY) sometimes you're better be with someone that you can move forward with?

Okay, so was this the hottest kiss in kdrama or was it the hottest kiss in kdrama? Two choices, that's it! There have been many kisses like this -- man rushing forward, taking the woman into his arms, etc., but this one felt...lol...sincere. I bought the urgency -- JS needed to do it now because of the sliver of a window he had opened into his heart; and we, he, and EY know that that window was shutting even as it was opening. I think EY's kiss in the phone booth was sexier, more beautiful, but this one was hot.
So, important business aside, this drama is beginning to make me very nervous. There is no way in hell these two can end up together. Is JS capable of letting the past die? Is he capable of moving forward? Even if he were, would it make sense to move forward with EY -- his most tangible connection to the past? If JS were a more mature character, I would see hope here, but seriously, the man is a complete basket-case. He needs talk-therapy. He needs a long vacation. He needs to get over...himself.
Also, EY deserves better. Does she want a guy who is hot and cold all the freaking time? What kind of father would he make? Emotionally distant and occasionally present with great fanfare. That's what.
HAA Ha. I am so invested in the show.
My advice to EY is, Girlfriend, have a brief fling/dalliance with JS, and then find a (more) stable man without (that many) issues.

To me, the series should have ended right about here. We had the "who does he like" game already and enough "play" with the secretary to confuse us. I don't want to see it drag on and on.
To me, he should have had this great revelation, stayed with Eun Young which he clearly loves and keep what's-her-name, which he clearly doesn't love, as a secretary cause she's useful and inspiring etc etc.
The kiss was hot, the fight between the guys was friggin' awesome, but I would have liked to see the end of it now or at least the end of the "who will it be" game. They could drag the part about him making his final decision and accepting a life with Eun Young and all, but not the "game" between the two girls.
That should be done with by now and they should focus on the one real couple and the situation between them instead of bringing the little girl back into the whole romance mess.
If they do that, then they're overdoing it, in my opinion. I do agree the main couple is easy to tell with most drama, so the whole confusion was welcome, but going to the opposite extreme isn't good either.
At some point, the questions should end and the focus should shift to the main couple and how they will reach that good and conclusive part of their struggle.

A few things:
I've debated whether to delete spoilers but have ultimately decided I won't. However, I think the preference for most readers is to keep the conversation to the episode at hand. Which means: Episode 11 thread is about Episode 11. Speculation about the future is fine, but dropping information from later episodes is, in this context, spoilery.
I know people get excited and want to talk about the latest happenings and the latest Coffee House thread sure is convenient.... except not to the rest of us who are waiting to see it and consider this thread a safe space not to be spoiled. Open Threads are fair game as far as I'm concerned, although a spoiler notice would probably be appreciated by OT denizens.
As for this book talk -- I keep hearing that cited as though the book is "proof" of this drama's story. Coffee House the Drama is not based on a novel. As far as I can tell, the Coffee House book was published AFTER the drama began to air, and is co-written by the drama scriptwriter. Consider it a novelization of the drama, not a basis for it.

i was so so so sad the recap wasn't up before i went to bed last night, so here i am reading it at work now!! lol. and constantly looking behind my back. but anyways.
YES OMG WHAT. THAT. KISS? LIKE, OMG? i don't think i remember anything that convincing since.. cofee prince? but osldfkjlsdfjklsdjflsdkslkdfjsldkfjsldkfsl *ㅠ*
also, how great was hyunseok? lol i wouldn't mind if he appeared in future episodes too! i wonder if his character will actually turn out to be gay hahaha. so different from the character he played in sikgaek. his sharp profile also reminded me of joo jihoon, did anyone else think that?
i loved the fight scene between jiwon and jinsoo too. i was SO DAMN HAPPY when jinsoo finally did something and broke his polite facade and punched jiwon in the bathroom bc OMG i wanted to strangle him till he turned blue. i also liked the music they used in the outdoor fight scene it had me loling.
can't wait to go home and watch episode 12 eeeeeeeeeeeee!

Ahhhh, now I might actually see about wandering away from the classic kdramas to watch this after reading this recap!
I'm not only cheering for the couple, but also for the fact it was not only the second kiss, but also a HOT kiss by the looks of things. More than one kiss and lack of fish-lips is always a huge plus. My writer side also gives major props about the minute being more than ten years line.
Anyways, thanks again for the recaps and can't wait to read the next one!

btw javabeans have you ever considered installing the disqus plugin for commenting on your blog? it seems to be the best solution for tracking replies/having threads in the comments and should facilitate discussion. hopefully it works well with wordpress too.

If I had to grade the two kisses so far in this drama, I would give the phone booth kiss an A, the train kiss, I do not think was that passionate, I think it was more forced, and the response from EY was not so engaging... so I would give that one a C+ for effort. The best Kdrama kiss so far for me which I give a A+ is Personal Taste, when the lead actor tells the lead actress... "game over" in front of her ex, and plants one on her... both engaged really well with that kiss.
The fight scene was WAY to long. It got somewhat boring after a while. What was good about it was that JS got rid of the bent up feelings and frustration which he has had built up for the past many years, and what was also good was the revelation that came to him as he laid on the ground. The revelation came from his good secretary, which seems to actually have more common sense than he does.
So far, I am glad to see that he has confessed and was honest about his feelings for EY, at least she knows that it is not one sided and that she's really not going crazy, because if I was in that type of relationship, I think I would be pulling out my hair by now. Thanks goodness for SY, because without her JS would not have reached this revelation, and EY may have ended up looking like the skeleton in "Tales of the Crypt" waiting for him to be 100% sincere.
This drama is somewhat addictive, but yet frustrating, because it keeps changing directions and I have no clue where the leads will be ending up. So long everyone is happy at the end I will be happy too.

Three things: 1. For obvious reasons, this episode was amazing (thanks for always recapping by the way). 2. That smile that he has when he talks to Seung-yeon on the phone...made me smile. And I haven't even watched the first episode of this series nor any series with Kang Ji-hwan in it except for reading the recap for his last one courtsey of you, Javabeans. 3. The image of him kissing Eun-young...love it esp. b/c of their reflection on the window of the train.
*sighs* Wow...beautiful end scene.
