Jang Dong-gun “carefully considers” a drama comeback
by javabeans
Superstar Jang Dong-gun is said to be eyeing a return to television acting, which would be his first time in ten years. And that would be AWESOME.
The names and parties have mostly been masked, but here are the details: Jang recently received an offer from Production Company A to star in Blockbuster Drama B. Jang had initially declined the offer, but now has gone back to “reconsider the project favorably.” He recently met with the CEO of the production company to discuss the project closely. A source stated, “Because he has a busy schedule, he is currently reviewing the possibility of taking the project.”
Jang, who recently married actress Go So-young, is currently waiting to film his upcoming movie My Way with director Kang Je-kyu, which is scheduled for October. He will also need to be available for promotions for his Hollywood film The Warrior’s Way, which was supposed to release in April but still doesn’t have a U.S. premiere date.
(Here’s the trailer for The Warrior’s Way, which I can’t decide looks fantastic or cheesy. Maybe a little of both.)
Oh, this would be such great news — a Jang Dong-gun drama comeback is long overdue! His last drama role was in an early Hallyu hit, 2000’s All About Eve (which, by the way, is getting a Chinese remake starring Korean actor Jang Hyuk).
Jang is one of Korea’s top stars — the cream of the A-list crop — so it blows my mind that there’s a fairly large contingent of Korean entertainment fans who shrug, “Who’s he?” It’s just that he’s focused on his film career (Good Morning President, Typhoon, Taegukgi) and doesn’t publicize his personal life, so many fans don’t see him on television programs and figure he’s not a big deal. But he IS a big deal, and he’s also almost universally loved as a gentle, kind person. Bring Jang Dong-gun back to TV, please!

Loved him in All About Eve. His hair in it was a tad questionable, but otherwise he's great. Can't wait to see him hit the drama scene again.

Ah, I haven't seen Jang Dong Gun in any dramas nor movie, but I just only heard the news about his marriage with his wife Go So-Young last May, rite?
I am not really, like, an fan of Jang Dong Gun but I think he seem like he's really awesome guy and expect for him to able to get back into drama anytime.

Yes, he is a big deal in Korea. So much so that after acting as the president in the movie, I am not sure what other role can he take. He is the A-list of A-list.
Even though I have my own fav korean actors, I have to acknowledge that he is the leading man of leading men.
I am so happy he got married, shows that he still got his feet on the ground and is a regular guy.

OMG, so excited!
First Lee Byung-hoon came back with IRIS, next up is Jung Woo-sung with Athena, and now even Jang Dong-gun is considering a return to TV?
We are so lucky! I think when Cha Seung-won made a drama last year with City Hall, it foretold a dam breaking and a bunch of big name movie stars are returning to TV. Come back, Won Bin, come back......

I wonder if an A-lister like Jang Dong Gun returning to TV means that either he needs a career boost, creativity is dead in the Korean movie business, or Hollywood is not panning out as planned?

I wonder how people can claim that they watch k-drama when they do not know who he is. Seriously, there are certain classics you have to watch to be able to say that you do watch it. I'm so excited for this news.

Wow... I would be so excited if he actually decided to participate in another drama. I've always been a huge fan of JDG. Hopefully he chooses very carefully. I wouldn't want his comeback drama to be a bad one.

lol. What kind of news is this? He's "considering a drama comeback?" Why not announce it when he signs the contract. LOL. I love how they create buzz.
But yes, he was the most perfect man on earth in All About Eve.

Ha ha, I'm second that.
I was so surprised when I read this line"there’s a fairly large contingent of Korean entertainment fans who shrug, “Who’s he?”, eh, really? and they call themselves K-entertainment fans?
Can't wait to see him back on TV !

@CW: Even if it's not official, the fact that there IS a possibility is big stuff! I mean, 10 YEARS have gone by since his last drama! 10 YEARS.
At the same time, why does it always feel that so many actors disappear after they've hit a big jack pot drama? I always feel like once they've made a hit drama, I'd always expect them to jump on another drama when the popularity and excitement is high. But it feels like years go by. I think I'm just the impatient type and can't handle the one-drama-per-year.... or five years XD

This looks like a promo-trailer. It's kind of longer than most standard trailers. I'm not sure what to make of it at this point but it looks entertainning. Jang Dong Gun's character has a kind of "The man with no name" feel to it.
I wish the leading lady was Salma Hayek then maybe I'll be a little more interested in the romance between the two leads.
I'll be rooting for him and hope the movie will do better than Ninja Assasin sorry Rain fans.

Ever since he stopped doing dramas the newer Hallyu fan crowd has stopped knowing his name. But my cousins and mother (who watched Korean dramas back in the day - All about Eve included) RAVE about him. They remember him to this day! (Mostly from All About Eve and a medical drama, I believe).
I've never experienced his awesome acting and handsomeness myself, so it'd be great if he returns!

I guess those who are really new to kdrama land, may not know him since he hasn't been in a drama for 10 years now.
Although I didn't get into kdramas until probably 2004, I always like JDG better than BYJ. I would be all over a JDG tv series - please come back!
I just have been enjoying dramas more than movies lately. I know that the latter is more prestigious but I don't know... I just find myself enjoying dramas more than 2-3 hrs movies.
