Fans speculate about Prosecutor Princess Season 2
by waterleaf
While Prosecutor Princess originally had a fairly slow start, being called the Wed/Thur drama with the worst casting, by the end of its run, Prosecutor Princess’s low ratings were reversed and reruns and internet viewings have become so high that the team has stated “rating? Let the dog take it” (A Korean saying signifying little importance). While there had been talks of a possibility for an extension, Prosecutor Princess sadly ended at 16 episodes on May 20th 2010. Due to the semi-abrupt ending, there were regrets about Jenny’s limited role and lack of love line, the unfinished love stories of Ma Hye Ri/Seo In Woo, and Yoon Se Joon/Jin Jung Sun, as well as the uncompleted ongoing story of Hye Ri’s growth and role as prosecutor. While in the beginning, responses to Prosecutor Princess were generally low, it carried throughout a loyal fanbase, and by the end had gained critical reviews and renewed interest. Ma Hye Ri and Seo In Woo continue to be on the top 10 internet searches even after the show has run its course and visits to the online website have been many. Additionally, due to the popularity of Kim So Yeon and Park Shi Hoo overseas, Prosecutor Princess has received interest from surrounding countries. All this has in turn has propelled questions and requests by netizens about the possibility for a season two.
While I do not hold much hope for an actual season two happening at any time soon–the theme nowadays seems to be to banish the words “season two” at the end of any drama that enjoyed any moderate level of success–if such a season two ever happened, I believe it could be one of the few sequels that could actually be very good. Here’s to hoping such things happen~
I personally started Prosecutor Princess about two weeks into its start. I watched 4 episodes in one sitting and while I thought the drama was cute, the overused strains of “Goodbye My Princess”, Hye Ri’s dramatic obsession with shoes, and the unoriginal if heartfelt storyline of character development meant I stored the drama away intending to watch it in some distant future and then promptly forgot about it. Later, after the drama had run it’s course and good reviews began popping up on the internet, I revisited the drama and watched the whole thing in a matter of days, staying up to unseemly hours to finish it. While the first half of Prosecutor Princess is undeniably slow, predictable, and at times over-the-top, the second half makes up for it in spades with a heart-felt, tear-wrenching climax, developing love story, cute funny interactions between various characters, and amazing acting by all actors. Maybe because I had such low expectations in the beginning, but the end absolutely amazed me and Prosecutor Princess is now one of my favorite dramas. If anyone wants to watch a romantic comedy with a wonderfully delightful storyline, an anticipation-filled well connected thought out plot, and a realistic yet heart-wrenching love story with wonderful acting, this is the drama to watch!
(Note: Just to make sure we’re not starting unfounded rumors, I’d just like to point out that the Season 2 talk is mostly originating from fans making requests of the producers, not the producers saying they’re considering doing it. Like waterleaf, I’m not holding my breath about it. —javabeans)

Thanks, waterleaf!
I highly encouraged my daughter to give this drama a try. I told her to hang on, during the early episodes because the second half(even earlier) would make it all worth while. She just finished it, and couldn't agree more. Now she's telling her friends about it.
I would be hard pressed to come up with a drama whose story was as well developed, written, and acted(well, City Hall comes to mind...but PP was for me just a lot more fun). Everyone in PP was pretty amazing...and I loved how they brought so many things full circle! Very, very tight writing!
Not sure how I feel about the thought of a PP Season 2. With the same actors, writers, and director, it would likely be an enjoyable drama...but I'm not sure if they'd be able to recapture the magic that really made PP one of the very best dramas that I have ever watched.

Though I absolutely love this drama, I liked how it ended and I'm part of those fans that don't want a season 2. I'm hoping for new projects from the same team that made this one, but nothing else.
In fact, for dramas, I'm against of second seasons. The limited runs (not talking about daily dramas, of course), from 16 to 24 is perfect for me. You get a start, a conflict and an end, and that's all, move on. Whether you loved it or hated it, you can renew your affections with new projects.

Le sigh, I overread the word fans. (please highlight it, as a precausion for people who have a weaker heart or are pregnant)
This was my ultimate favourite drama ever. I fell in love with the story, but also with the actors. Definetly going to stalk all their next projects.

hmmm i have mixed feelings about a sequel. I loved the drama but i don't think the writers could create 16 new episodes of amazing. Maybe if they did what's common in trendy J-dramas.....A 2- episode special?

I felt pretty much the same as you, but I'm glad I sticked through the end. It's really, really a good drama. :) I really liked it a lot.
One of the things that put me off at first was the way TPTB decided to show Ma Hye-ri's growth as a prosecutor and human being. While I get where they were going with, say, the child abuse case and the rape, I thought that they could have made the same point with another kind of case (how about the classical thief who steals to feed his kids?). This is the same kind of problem (Sensitive Topics tackled or skimmed in rom-coms) I've had with 200 pounds of beauty. IMHO, the tone of the genre is not suitable for such topics no matter how sensibly and carefully they are treated (I really don't feel like laughing like 3 scenes after a child abuse case. Maybe I'm too sensitive).
As for the rest of the drama, I really loved. I wanted to see more of Hye-ri/In-woo and how cute was Hye-ri's mom? I was expecting to see another scene with her and Hye-ri/In-woo. It'd be nice to have a s2 but I'm not holding my breath

I just love this drama - Although they didn't seem to receive much love but I thought i was one of the best drama. The storyline was didn't seem so far fetch and didn't seem slow or dragging throughout the entire time. It was quite enjoyable and talk about Seo In Woo's smile now that just melts anybody lol.. love the drama but I doubt there will be a season 2 -

As much as I love this drama, no season 2 please. I have not seen any season 2 drama/movie that have matched up to the first one. Just want to remember PP as it is- a great drama. Thank you for reminding us that to make a great drama, you need a great script, great acting and a great production team.

The first few episodes were rough for me, but I stuck with it, and WOW... it really picked up and in fact some weeks it was my preference of choice to watch over PT and CS. I did not feel that this drama or any of the others I watched this year (OML, BORM, CS, PT, PP) need a season 2; the only drama I agree with so far is IRIS. I think that every single detail does not have to be acted out completely and should be left to the viewers imagination. I

heheheeh - yeah, it would be really nice for a season 2, or even an extension.
however , as much as i love it, i would prefer if it didn't get either option. Maybe a one episode special - or maybe an interview with the cast (a la goong) but otherwise, i think it told the story the best it could in enough episodes. it just feels short because well, when you're having fun time flies right by doesn't it? :)

I wished this drama received more love, more press and higher ratings during it's run. It's such a good drama. The acting was good and the storyline solid. I loved it from the start and it was good to see Kim So Yeon in such a different role. Although I would like to see some more Hye Ri and In Woo moments part of me doesn't want a second season because it could sometimes destroy the story. If the writer can pull it off, while still making Prosecutor Princess as lovable as before then sure we can demand for another season.

I seriously wish they would have a season 2 because I felt that they have also left it unfinished and a season 2 would make up a good plot.
Like javabeans said, I also have put the drama beside and picked it up when the plot started to get exciting and staying up late at night trying to finish it.

Thanks for the article waterleaf. PP was not even on the list of dramas I wanted to watch but after aberdeen_angus & kaedejun's amazing recaps I gave it a try at the very end. It is one of my favorite dramas now. It is indeed one of the best out of the 3 that was running at the same Wed/Thu slot. It is well paced, well thought out/written and well acted drama. There was never too much angst, always balanced out with some lightness from other story lines. KSY is really adorably cute and lovable & has great chemistry with PSH. While I think season 2 would be great I was happy & satisfied with how it ended.

ive never felt so much love for a show before. PP is perfect. i enjoyed the first half cos KSY was acting in a role that was completely different to her previous ones... so i didnt mind it being 'slow'. this show, even with all the fan-loving, will ALWAYS be criminally underrated cos it's that good. thanks dramabeans for promoting the show via your honest reviews.

i have to agree that....there was an A.B.U.S.E of "goodbye my princess" lol....still what would season 2 cover as the storyline...? wasn't there enough drama? anyhow....a season 2 always scares me cause it usually ruins everything...maybe a special episode would do!

at that period, I was waiting for PT like a crazy and didn't give any chance for PP at the beginning. but after giving a try, I really really loved it! even, I started to get bored of PT and it became my first. the leads' chemistry is undeniable and since the ending some rumours are surfing about them;) fishy, yummy.

Perhaps I am the only one to think it will works because of the successful record of the PD and the script writer combo.

what could I say about PP?...it's the BEST DRAMA I've watched in years, it even tops City Hall in my opinion!!! plus I get to share my LOVE for it in forums like Soompi & Viikii & DB!!! You guys should read the comments, in-depth-analysis & rantings from the fans...who are still trying to RE_LIVE the show...2 weeks after its run, so as to relieve their withdrawal symptoms together!!!
I never hang on to a drama after the finale...usually move on to the next one....but PP has ruined it all for me!!! Each & every drama I try to start now, eventually gets compared to PP & I soon lose interest & go back to re watching PP episodes!!! Even my much-awaited Kang Ji Hwan comeback..Coffee House, now just bores me? What to do!!!

I don't know about a season two but a 2 episode special will do it for me. I felt like some storyline still needs closure ala Jenny so just two more telling us happen to the rest of the cast and maybe the wedding of hye ri/in woo and Se Joon and Jung Sun will do. LOL.

I am so glad that PP has finally garnered its desered recogniition worldwide. For me, I would prefer a 2 episode special instead of Season 2 as most season 2s don't live up to expectations. Hopefully, in the 2 episode special, we can get to see IW's adoptive dad, IW's interaction with HR's mum who dots on him. Of course, we need to see HR wearing her "special shoes" on her wedding day walking down the aisle with a proud and dignified-looking MST. AJ would sniff quietly into her handkerchief while dressed in her best and IW would turn around looking at HR and MST with his best dimply SMILE!

It always nice to have such rumours of possible second seasons (though it ultimately brings great disappointment in the end)........but I still favour having a second season or even just a special! =)
I would very much like to watch more character development in other characters such as Jenny and of course more scenes between Park Si Hoo and KSY.
I am not particularly fond of KSY style of clothes though, perhaps it due to the cultural difference .... but I do like some of her heels
Overall I am definitely more impressed with Park Si Hoo's acting more than KSY since I find KSY slightly overacting in some parts in the beginning (but perhaps it is needed for such character due to the script writing) but glad her attitude is toned down to a more mature being near the end.

@Gladys
I so totally agree with you! I'd rather like a 2 episode special.
I'm thinking that in the special, it starts off with MHR and SIW having a fabulous wedding at the ski lodge where they first met.
The conflict part would come in perhaps in an unfavorable circumstance for MHR's parents such that they would have no choice but to live with MHR and SIW temporarily. Old wounds gets opened etc....
A new guy very-like MHR in the beginning gets hired as one of the prosecutors and somehow gets infatuated with MHR and similar like MHR is clueless that she has a husband already. Jenny gets a case that unfortunately was assigned to this MHR-like new prosecutor guy. IW gets wind of this case, he plots with Jenny again to make this new prosecutor guy fall for Jenny so that the new prosecutor guy would leave MHR alone. When MHR finds about this, she gets angry and leaves their home and temporarily lives with SJ and JS. SIW soughts SJ's help. They bond. MHR also has thing bonding thing with JS and Jenny. There the women find out that MHR was pregnant, hence the mood swings, etc. MHR and SIW patch things up and a few months later MHR goes into labor and had twins -- a boy and a girl.
I'm so way over my head! My excuse, still in PP withdrawal even after 2 weeks! LOL
