Yoo Ah-in cast in Sungkyunkwan Scandal
by javabeans
Aww, yeah! The “campus youth sageuk drama” Sungkyunkwan Scandal has cast Yoo Ah-in, which puts together a group of young rising stars in a “Joseon-era F4.” He joins DBSK’s Mickey Yoochun (real name Park Yoo-chun) in his drama debut and Song Joong-ki (OB-GYN). Yoo plays the role of “Moon Jae-shin,” a young man who rebels against the times, dressing and acting like a bad boy.
Sungkyunkwan Scandal is based on a novel and gets started when a female character enters school at Sungkyunkwan in place of her younger brother, poses as a male, and meets the characters played by Micky Yoochun, Song Joong-ki, and Yoo Ah-in. (So, basically a historical version of Hana Kimi meets You’re Beautiful?) The female role will be played by Jung Da-young of the currently airing Fine Windy Day.
It’s been a year since Yoo Ah-in’s last drama, The Man Who Can’t Get Married; his most recent film was Sky and Ocean, and Antique Bakery prior to that. I don’t think those projects showed him off to his best advantage, and the reason I’m excited is because he’s an actor who can look adorable one minute, but is capable of being a chameleon and doing some fierce emoting the next. He was practically the only cast member who bothered to put any effort into Strongest Chil-woo — which is also the role that convinced me he had the skills to pull off intense and dramatic acting. (And if you’re skeptical about that, here’s a refresher of role he played — a mysterious assassin — in that series.)
The drama will premiere in September.

He's so cute. I loved him in "He Who Can't Get Married".
Although I'm not happy about the Yoochun (lead) role. At least they've got great supporting actors to back up the drama.

it takes 4 to make an F4~so who's gonna round up the quartet??
although many may disagree,i sorta want an idol to play the role,,of course one who can act =)
actually yoon si yoon from High Kick has the cut for this F4-ish stuff but he's leading another drama so yeah,,,or maybe Ji Chang-wook from Sol's Pharmacy~

Hana Kimi meets You're Beautiful? So this is comedy?
Because when I read the description, I thought, oh NO, is this a Korean version of "The Butterfly Lovers" ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110340/ )?
Yoo Ah In, young actor that I like, along with Yoo Seungho.

"campus youth sageuk" with Song Joong-ki and Yoo Ah-in?? everything in that short statement sounds absolutely exciting! I adore those two actors, and I've never seen a sageuk that centered around campus youth, so I'll definitely be looking out for this one!

"So, basically a historical version of Hana Kimi meets You’re Beautiful?"
is it a comedy? if it isn't then it would be the korean version of "butterfly lovers", just like djes said.
but Song Junki and Yoo Ah In in one drama?? count me in!!!

i have trouble differentiating that guy in the photo and the one in Smile, YOu. the funny thing is that i saw, he who cant marry, smile you, when romance meets destiny, and antique bakery thinking it was just one guy.
but september is still way way far.......... out there.... woo.... september...

awesome cast!! I'm really looking forward to this, though I'm a bit skeptical on Yoochun, but I love him so I'll prob let it pass :].
As for the story line, since I don't know the novel, I hope it gears more toward "Butterfly Lovers" more rather than Hana Kimi + You're Beautiful (which I did not enjoy). Minus the tragic, but poetic, ending from "Butterfly Lovers" though.

I have to agree with you,JB; I thought he was a better brooding man in black in a sageuk (hehe, sorry @momosan) than JGS in Hong Gil Dong ( ducking really quickly in case our HGD's fans here saw this)( Hey, and I love our cutie pie JGS)...looking forward to see YAI in his latest project ;)

Say whaaaattt!!! I really was planning on skipping on this drama altogether b/c my fear of Yoochun's would not be ....um...good. I love Song Joong Ki, but it wasn't enough for me to want to watch it. I mean I stuck through Triple for him no matter how bad the SL & characters were. So I wasn't planning on watching this. But now, omg Yoo Ah In?? They're killing me now! Loved, loved, loved him in Strongest Chil Woo. He was ok in "the man who can't get married" or w/e. 2 great actors for the price of 1 semi ok lead actor....damn gonna have to see. Yoo Ah In is like my soft spot! Ahh....I'll give the first 5 eps a shot...then we'll see.
I guess I'm only for this drama for SJK & YAI!

I think both Song JK and Yoo Ah In are up & coming good actors, waiting for their break-out roles.
You are so right about Yoo being the only one who bothers to put in extra effort in Chilwoo. I noticed him and couldn't wait for his screen time in Chilwoo. He also spurred me into checking out for more wu-xia type of show & I found Kang Dong Won in Duelist.
He was also great in Man who can't marry. Hope Mickey and female lead Jung Dayoung would be just as good! Definitely another drama to look forward to and can't wait for Page Three and Four of Coffee House this week!

JB hope you'll do the recaps on this one!!! I love the cast. Firstly, the Hana Kimi meets You Are Beautiful---great entertaining concept!!! Jung Da Young was quite a character with terrible temper tantrums in Unstoppable Marriage, a cute younger sister in Big Sister and currently in A Good Day For the Wind to Blow where she's a bit tomboyish. I just love her and she'll be taking her brother's place amongst a patch of flower boys. Sing Joong Ki was adorable in My Precious Child (I have yet to see Ob-Gyn). Mickey Yochun, he's pretty good in the short Banjun Dramas with the rest of DBSK. And finally Yoo Ah In Strongest Chil Woo, I liked his character as the dark assasin In the night---he was quite a confused and bittersweet character. He looked good in his dark get up!! I'll watch this. I'll try not to compare thIs with fun
Hana Kimi and the enjoyable You Are Beautiful... This should be fun!!!

aaah... SJK & Yoo Ah-in in one drama? OK!!! My interest is up by notches now. I hope Micky Yoochun's acting skills will be at par w// these two, I'm not expecting much from this newbie but I'll give him a chance. Who knows he might just pull it off, & surprise us that he's the DBSK member who can act well :)
I hope the PD is good :)

well if it is a comdey it sounds promising, gender bender fun and laughs are always amusing to watch. I have only seen him in The Man who could not get married, as far as I know very few have seen Sky and Sea outside Korea to even judge what he may or may not been like in it, and his role in Man Married was pretty low key as a supporting actor, though he was not distracting so did his job I guess. So shows promise of not being just a pretty face, if indeed the other male cast are pop idols, they going to need at lest one male lead who can put in a solid acting performance.

Hana Kimi meets You're Beautiful, in a Joseon era setting? Yes, please! Lord!
I know only Song Joong-ki from out the cast, and he is a great actor, he proved his mettle in OB-GYN (where he was in a bit of a medical version of the F4) -- he can do angst, arrogance, side splitting comedy (incl: kissing another guy on the lips, chyahahah - in as much a non-gay way as you can get!) and tears, so naturally. <3
Can't wait to see him in SKK scandal.

i was on the fence a little before, but with his addition, im officially excited about this drama now. Yoo Ah In KICKED ASS in S.C.W and out acted everyone else in it. plus, it doesnt hurt that he is so damn adorable that he makes me(a 32 year old ajumma) squeel like a 16 year old fan girl. BRING ON SEPTEMBER!

"and the reason I’m excited is because he’s an actor who can look adorable one minute, but is capable of being a chameleon and doing some fierce emoting the next"
very much AGREED!
I love him in He Who Can't Married, and even his appearance in a glimpse in Antique. He maybe not very good looking like any other flower boy actors out there in Korea. But he definitely has his own charm. I'm soooo excited.

It sounds more like a sageuk "She's The Man" - and if you haven't seen that movie then my reference means absolutely nothing to you. But the movie was essentially a modern remake of The Twelfth Night but with Amanda Bynes and an oft-shirtless Channing Tatum in a private high school playing lots of soccer.
Ever since Triple I've been slightly in love with Song Joong-Ki. And I'm actually pretty interested in seeing how Mickey Yoochun does.

Wow, this drama reeks of originality! Seriously though, it's like Hana Kimi, You're Beautiful, Boys over Flowers (and more like people mentioned above) in one, just sageuk. I guess the fangirls won't mind since there will be "hot boys". I'll skip, none of the leads interest me that much anyway. More for you.

If SKK takes a The Butterfly Lovers detour, I'm bring a chainsaw to the PD and writer. Do not go down that path, I beg of you. Remember, happy happy joy joy.

Woah, all of you got me there earlier...haha
Yeah, when I finally read the plot, reminded me of "Butterfly Lovers"...
(which I was first introduced not becuase I had watched but because a batchmate of mine (who has a Chinese side in him) recommended it to me when he caught me watching YeoinCheonha in the school computers)
I hope this one would not be too much like of a remake...would be too disappointment much...

He was SO cute in his geekie look in He who can't marry : he went right into my list of "Korean Bishonen" *3*
I'm excited by the plot of this drama (I'm a real sucker when it comes to crossdressing) but I'm a bit worried too : I really liked YB, HK and POW and with such references I might be really disapointed with the result... *dilemma* *dilemma*
But I'm still curious to see Ah-In in a sageuk... I was supposed to give a try with Strongest Chil-Woo anyway so...

Hmm he seems a bold type or arrogant take your pick. After the sad failing of Sky and Sea he put much the blame on Oh-seong Ju for crossing the line between producer and director. For such a young actor to disrespect an older one like that is pretty big step, though he said in his blog he was upset he wasn't informed that the film was to be pulled, so it may have been a knee jerk comment.
Oh-seong Ju is for course Jang Nara's father and it was her money used to finish the film, so perhaps Oh-seong Ju did go overboard, but as I say for such a young and inexperienced actor say something like that is a bit much.
I understand Yu Ah-In only escaped a law suit for his comments by the intervention of Oh-seong Ju's daughter Jang Nara.

I thought all the DBSK members acted very well in their Banjun dramas....given a decent chance by viewers, I think they too can succeed. They are all born entertainers, it seems....acting or singing. While a bit slow moving, and a sinister feel to some of the characters, this drama is very interesting....YAI, steals the show, of course.
