Wed-Thurs battle heats up as ratings numbers rise

Two weeks have given our new Wednesday-Thursday dramas a chance to get settled and establish their stories, and today’s (Wednesday) fifth episode offered the series something of a new direction as they kicked off major storylines. (This isn’t very spoilery if you’ve seen the episodes from last week, but if you don’t want to know a single thing about the episodes’ content, skip to the next paragraph.) For instance, Cinderella’s Sister wrapped up the teenage years and sped forward to eight years later, and also marked the drama debut of Taecyeon. And Personal Taste got going in earnest when Lee Min-ho‘s character begins to make over Sohn Ye-jin‘s unkempt character.

Accordingly, ratings rose for both those dramas. Cinderella’s Sister stands poised to break 20% soon, as its Episode 5 drew a 19.7% (TNS Media, or 19.1% via AGB Nielsen), widening its lead and solidifying its first-place standing. With each episode’s numbers creeping upward, it’s on its way to being a bona fide hit, both ratings-wise and critically. (And deservedly so, in my opinion.) The news was also good for Personal Taste, which dipped a bit in its second week but came back up to a 13% TNS (14.3% AGB). You can probably credit that to Sohn’s prettified appearance (her messy looks were a common complaint of fans used to seeing her more polished), which frankly kinda bums me out a little. (I know Kae-in’s a slob, but she’s so adorable! It’s refreshing to have a heroine who isn’t always dressed in thousand-dollar designer threads.)

Prosecutor Princess, on the other hand, remained stable in third place as its story delved into a child sexual assault case. Its numbers have hardly budged since Episode 1, and in fact the latest 10.8% (or 10.4% AGB) was a repeat of its premiere rating. While ratings can always change, it looks like the rankings have been firmly established and will likely remain in this order. What I’m most curious about is seeing how far Cinderella’s Sister can rise.

Cinderella sister easily deserves first. The acting and the script. Just everything's there. Suspense drama eveything. On the other hand Personal Taste which I was really looking forward to really disappointed me. The acting is good yet something missing. Plus everything is moving just a tad slow. Prosecutor Princess I began to see because dramabeans began to recap it. But dayum! It is a good drama. He acting and the script and the directing. Like Shining Inheritance it uses a lot of cliches yet it's a very sweet fun sometimes heartwarming story. Eveyone should give it a try. Pity it wasn't promoted correctly......

i'm surprised that personal taste isn't doing that well. but i think it's due to the directing because there are parts in the drama that are not well paced ..things just don't really flow. however i think lee min ho is doing such a great job, so is the lead girl.

i haven't picked up cinderella's story because i really am not a big fan of the lead girl (nothing related to her acting), but i mite pick it up now since it's doing so well.

as a drama addict, i watch all three dramas. haha being a senior and having senioritis definitely doesn't help either.

when i started watching, i was kind of bored by personal preference. i love lee min ho and on top of that, i LOVE kim ji suk but i felt like compared to the other dramas, the plot wasn't as moving as fast.
i feel like rating for personal rose and for good reason too. the whole make over thing is very interesting and it's definitely better than before.

with prosecutor princess, i love this show and rather disappointed that the ratings have been improving a tiny little bit each episode because it deserves so much more than that. but then again, competition's tough! i think the ratings will pick up more and more if they had more of park shi hoo and kim so yeon (he's got so many mysteries behind him and i can't wait to find outttttt!). if they keep showing court cases, as important and interesting they are, the ratings going to plunge like it did for partner ( i still watched all the episodes!) I know kim so yeon only got famous again after IRIS but she's good. making big character changes even and she fits well into both of them. she's spunky and fabulous! love her clothes too. anyone who just thinks this drama looks light and silly, think again and watch it. it's worth your time. i promise

as for cinderella's sister, i think there is a reason that its in first place. first, the acting is amazing. there's a reason why moon geun yeon's a legend, seo woo i dont think is as bad as everyone says she is and i think she does a good job expressing her character... and for chun jung myung, i dont even know what to say. everytime he smiles, my heart just melts and i scream inside. the scenery is absolutely gorgeoussss and even the older actors are truly fantastic!
taecyeon was finally in an episode today and although he didn't say much i think his dialect sounded pretty natural. as much as i love taecyeon though, he can never take the place of chun jung myung inside my heart...
ahhhhhhh
i love wednesdays thursdays...

Cinderella Sister all the way!!!! Actually I am both watching CS and PT, and enjoys both of them at the same time.

However PT does not have have an effect like CS. I mean CS had me at "Eun Jo yah~" I mean hearing that since Episode 2.. I'm already sold!! It might start another hit in naver like after YB' s "dwaeji ttoki"..

Oh man Wed-Thurs are my happy days again!!!

I don't care about the acting that much in this season. Since each of these drama are well-made. My favorite goes to Personal Taste. I really enjoy the light tone and Minho!!! One of the best thing in my week, to relax and to have my personal taste!

i'm sorry, but it's ridiculous that fans complained about the messy look of Kae-in. that's what makes her who she is. and Son Ye Jin is so pretty that even a little unkempt hair doesn't make her look bad. i'm disappointed that people didn't like the messy look...it soo suited her character and gave Kae-in a uniqueness. silly fans! silly silly silly fans. i'm a little disappointed that her hair changed from those awesome whimsical curls to straight boring hair. waay to lose the one quirky thing about Kae-in. oi vey!

to tell the truth.. i lov all 3 drama!! but Prosecutor sure a surpise to me.. i nvr expect to enjoy this much~~as for personal taste.. i got to say i expect TOO much, overall it's still enjoyable to watch but i personally thinks that.. personal taste is the weakest of the 3 drama. this is my ranking
1. cinderella sister 2. prosecutor princess 3. Personal Taste

cinderella sister is not so drama we could see in a while.. it's so beautifully film, storyline is great.. cast is superb and it's not even a comical drama.. n i'm enjoying it so much!!! MGY rocks!!

Yay for Cinderella's Sister!!!! I haven't been watching PT (SO.SICK.OF.THAT.STORYLINE!) but the mere fact that they "prettied up" Sohn Ye-Jin's appearance because of complaints, well... proves it's not the drama for me. That's why I love CS - I'm emotionally invested in each and every character and it has nothing to do with the fact that they have a great wardrobe, hair, etc.

Javabeans, thank you for giving warnings before each potential spoiler! I dread spoilers, even tiny ones, so your caution is greatly appreciated!!
I too am curious to see just how high CS's ratings can get. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll be enveloped by a giant makgulli bubble and reach the moon! Teehee!

I agree that Personal Taste started off more slowly. I was bored quite frankly but kept at it to watch Lee Min Ho. But at this point in both dramas, they're on equal playing field now for me. PT has improved in the storyline and
-I'm getting pretty tired of Hyo-Sun's whiny voice and ditzy personality. There's only so much of that a viewer can take.

@michelle,
To clarify, they didn't pretty up Sohn Ye-jin because of complaints. Rather, it's that when the story called for her character to pretty up a bit, viewers were happy. (I still think it's a bummer -- I've read people say they don't watch the drama purely because they think she's ugly! Sohn Ye-jin, ugly?? Blasphemy!)

personally, I think this is a tough battle =) coz each of these 3 dramas has its own charm.
I have less expectation for Prosecutor Princess, but well, when I gave it a try (fan of Kim So Yeon since All bout Eve :">), surprisingly, I kinda enjoyed it =D not that very much - but it's better than I thought :P Hmm, I think I will save Personal Taste for latter when I have more time in pocket +_+
Thus, as long as CS carries itself well, at least at this current pace, I think the rating will gradualy climp up.
Anyway, I have never taken rating for serious before :P out of curiosity only :P
But wish it would be good enough for the sake of CS's cast and staffs :D for what they have done so far, they totally deserve some acknowledgement ;)

I'm picking Personal Taste as my drama of choice for the Wed and Thurs line up. I've been reading the recaps for CS, though, and I agree it does deserve first place. I know MGY is amazing and I'm a fan but I really can't stand Seo Woo's face and also not a big fan of Taecyon so I'm hesitant in watching it. I get distracted by these things easily coz I'm the type of drama watcher that needs to like (or at least does not find them irritating) the actors playing the characters to enjoy and sit through the entire episodes.

Personal Taste is extremely disappointing. Shouldn't have held expectations high in the first place. I'm dropping it for good after 4 episodes. Makeover or whatever. Bleh.
Sorry Son Ye Jin.

To me CU and PP are on the same page. It's difficult for me to judge which one's better because they're of very very different genre. CU's more complicated whilst PP's more lighthearted and fun. But both dramas have one thing in common in that they have very intriguing characters to get the show going. CU has EJ and HS whilst PP has HR. All 3 female leads are unique in their own ways and the actresses are doing one heck of a fine job with them. For the guys, they hold an equal stand with the ladies as well. CJM's awfully endearing as KH (tho it might not be the case anymore) and PSH's super charming (but mysterious) as IW. Such a wonderful eye-feast and treat watching these 2 dramas.

I totally agree with how the ratings are panning out.

Cinderella's Sister is just something fresh to me and I hope it goes really far. I absolutely love it.

Personal Taste is like my weakness. I love the set up but it's not designed to be a blow away drama for sure.

Prosecutor's Princess, after showing some early good signs, is taking a bit of a dive though. I'm still invested but it's on the backburner compared to the other two.

PT is going into a makeover storyline now? Well, now I know which drama *I* am going to be dropping. I guess it's about time, I was finding the show draggy, and while I was enjoying the similarities between PT and Hotaru no Hikari, HnH has PT beat. I'll just watch SYJ in an infinitely better show/movie next time.

I'm rooting for CU and PP, they're awesome. I prefer CU now, but I'm more of a comedy person, so I may switch my opinion on this in the newer eps. Oh well~

It's not surprising that Cinderella's Sister is at the top. It's able to suck viewers in and get them to fully invest in each characters. I don't know how they do it but each episode just gradually keeps getting better and better.
MGY just breaks my heart in episode 5 with her silent tears that cascades like a waterfall. Where does she pull those emotions from??

The reviews for CS have been getting a lot more comments as well. JB, I wonder which drama review did you get the most comments on. Don't tell me it's Boys Over Flowers! >: B

I actually think Personal Taste is the weakest of the 3.

Especially after last night's episode. It drew laughs (it IS funny), but it feels so superficial. It's like we're told how we're supposed to feel. Cue the sad music whenever Gaein talks about her mother. Cue the funny music whenever the gay jokes start. I'm not feeling the emotional pull for everyone except perhaps Gaein.

Prosecuter Princess has waaaaaay more cliches than PT and it's such a chauvinistic drama that it pisses me off sometimes, but at least it's got truly winning and moving moments and I feel more emotions when watching the drama. Whereas PT is pretty flat.

aw man! i should watch these shows once i finished my exams XD i have started PT though, and i think it's adorable! minho is way improved than last year's BOF (he was.. meh.. no offense to the fans) buuut i LOVE son ye jin! omg, it's so refreshing to see her playing that kind of character.. she's a really good actress, but before this i always see her playing mellodrama characters. Looking forward to future episodes :)

I also find the new Gae In of Personal Taste after her make-over so boring. I preferred the "messy" Gae In, because it was refreshing and more normal to me than all those pretty female leads.

I was not going to watch CS, because I wanted to watch something light and funny, but gave it a try, when I was bored. Oh boy, I now totally understand why it is so popular at Soompi and in ratings.

I am so drawn into CS ep.05 due to Taecyeon's surprising character background, who really knew he plays EunJo's b___ (from all those season previews)? It should be an instant *ping* in my noggin' seeing the baseball bat however I really caught on when his accent changed back to a memorable cute character I once knew. I totally lost track of his character's adolescent name, ahhhh, ohhhhh... now he is all grown up! Hubba~hubba! (It's a really nice touch to recognize Taecyeon's character through my way, as if plan A didn't hit me then plan B or plan C will definitely make me catch on, and so it surely serve its purpose for me.)

As for PT, I have to agree with fans as I really was waiting for Sohn YeJin take her Cinderella transformation, and so the end of ep.05 gave me that satisfaction. I'm still waiting for something more magical happening as the story develops further here. Maybe PT should learn from CS and have an 8 yrs. leap speeding this story forward. Haha!

As I said before, I have decided to skip PP altogether. No way!

My vote goes to personal taste. we are soo into Lee Min Ho, but i kinda of worried that he seldom smile in PT. As for SYJ, she's ok. I ve seen Episode 5 without subtitle and found it quite slow. But hey, it does not matter. Fighting for PT

As for the other 2, CS and PP, I am not familiar with the cast. But from the review, I ll try to squeeze my time.

Loving both Cinderella's Sister and Personal Taste. And I can watch them both at the same time because one really tickles my funny bone while showing me moments of tenderness. The other tugs on my heart strings while offering glimpses of humor in every day life. I think both are quality dramas.

So far Cinderella's Sister isn't as melodramatic as i thought it would be (I'm reading the recaps before I watch the episodes so i can spare myself the suspense- i'm such a melodrama wimp)- I'm definitely liking it. I hope it continues in this tone through the series.

Personal Taste- I agree that Personal Taste is missing something in order to make it a lovable drama. I'm still watching it because it does have great sweet and emotional moments and I feel that the leads genuinely belong with each other, even though the humor, directing, pace, etc. is off and uneven. And the beautiful house! i guess it's just a set in some korean studio lot, but it's beautiful!

Prosecutor Princess- i've only watched the first 2 episodes. the only thing really interesting about it was Park Shi Hoo's mysterious and creepy character. But i heard it picks up by ep 3 and that we get to see Hye-ri resolve to be a good lawyer. And it's got the humor part of it down.

I'm watching both and while Cinderella's Sister is higher in the ratings, I like them both the same. For me, they satisfy two dual parts of my brain- when I want to a laugh, I'll watch back to back PT or when I feel like something more serious I'll sit for two hours watching CS... I think both dramas deliver in their respective genres.

All I can say is episode 5 for Cinderella's Sister is AWESOME (haven't seen PT yet)- the ending was so bittersweet and really revs up the emotion, if you haven't already felt your heart strings tugged by now, episode 5 may just do it for you...

Personal Taste basically is Gaydar Full House . . . directed as if it were Style.

For me, I think Son Yeh Jin's female heroine is going to come REALLY close to matching Sun-ah's Samsoon for all-time favorite romcom heroine. What makes her character so great is that you really believe the character LOVES her work, that she genuinely revels in her habits almost like an autistic child. She is such a NERD.

I'm so used to seeing Son Yeh Jin as a melodrama queen and serious actress, that I forget her good her comic skills are. And she's just wonderful here.

Lee Min Ho's good here, but he like Kim Bum reaches for the Sullen a bit too much. There isn't that deadpan, bemused detachment that, say, a Cha Seung Won would deliver in this role. However when the show dials up the emotional heft, LMH's just wonderful and he never preens for the camera. This actor has terse soul.

But the most surprising performance for me is Kim Ji Suk. He's improved so much since Likable or Not. It's not that he makes his character sympathetic -- it's that his character's cowardice and passive aggression are all articulated smoothly and thoughtfully.

I am thoroughly enjoying CS and PP. I tried watching Personal Taste but after 2 episodes I just gave up. I saw a few episodes of Boys before Flowers and I can't stop comparing it to Hana Yori Dango and how I find Minho lacking. He is no Jun Matsumoto. I have to concede he's a pretty boy but still not impressed by him.
Speaking of pretty boys, CJM is a doll. He makes me forget my boyfriend's name when he smiles (glad my bf is not into kdramas). I think he is a wonderful actor but at the same time his baby face worries me that it will limit him with future roles. He's only 2 years younger than Go Soo (another hottie) but the latter exudes manliness while CMJ still has his boyish charms. Hope my fear is for naught.

Sorry for digressing. CS deserves to be in the top spot as many have mentioned they have the right formula right now; wonderful cast, acting, story, pacing, and right amount of whimsy (love the suitcase sequence). Yeah I know it is still too early but please Kdrama god, hope nobody gets stricken with cancer, kidnapped and or murdered, migrate to a foreign country to study, commit suicide , drowned, forwarding time numerous times, and any other sad cliches. I want a few tears but most of all I want some happiness for Eunjoyah and Kihoon. No bittersweet crap either. I know it's a melodrama but going against the grain would be a welcome change.

I do hope that PP's rating will start picking up because it is a joy to watch. I can't help but be amused and empathized with the lead character Ma Hye Ri. I as a viewer want to root for her and want to see the transformation of the pampered princess to a prosecutor that cares about other people. It would be ride that I am sure I will enjoy=)

I knew that Cinderella's sister was gonna be a melo from the moment it was announced and wasnt planning on watching it...and that was the same all trough all the promotion (or rather lack of it)...i guess the casting stood out to me at some point and i decided that id just watch the first ep..im gald that i did...that and the fact that i didnt even touch any spoilers or previews..I LOVE IT!!..i guess i like being surprised...its been a while since any drama has made me feel like this...its magical...
as for Personal Taste...the drama that i was looking forward t the most..i wont say that its bad..i like it and it is funny..so i guess it serves its purpose but beyond that there has been nothing special about it..especially considering tis fantastic cast...without them i guess the drama would be just average for me..its the acting and the humor that keeps me going...Yet to watch PP..im gonna leave taht for the summer once it over...and then ill pull a marathon
So yeah..i totally approve of the way the ratings are going

for me, its a tie between PP and PT, I'm really enjoying both. True, PT did have a slow start, but i think after ep4, it will start to pick up. PP, its fun and exciting to see Ma Hye Ri character develop and still the mystery of Seo In Woo interest in her. The only reason i didn't choose CS is because its a melodrama. I can't stand depressing drama and you kind of can predict whats going to happen already....
