@90 eiko
Your remarks about PP reminding you of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid made me LOL! As long as the main characters don't die in a shoot out with the B
olivian army everything should work out just fine. Right?:)
@JB
i would just like to add my thanks to everyone elses. Thank you for all the time and effort that you put into this site. You help us Kdrama addicts feed our addiction. How could that possibly be a bad thing? :)

For someone like me who can barely get her sh*t together enough to type up a comment, I can only appreciate the amount of effort that goes into a lengthy and quality episode recap, and four a week is an amazing feat indeed! Respeck, bo!

Lulz! That was such a General Choi/Prosecutor Yoon thing to do! No wonder he lacks romance in his life. So funny!
Funnily enough Kim Seo Yeon was saying she wanted to take a break away from actiony roles a la IRIS as she got injured a lot whilst shooting, and the same happened with PP's episode 3 (she incurred quite a few cuts and bruises), but this has to top even IRIS AND ep. 3! Can you just imagine HIS weight on your back?
Remember to do your stretches, eiko!

LOL LOL....I thought it was hilarious because Yoon looked like he was getting a kick out of it. I also thought for sure....he was gonna kiss her afterwards! But then, those are 2 distinctively opposite moods.....I'm still laughing just thinking about it.
By the way....you picture his weight on my back because....honey girl...I'm only 5' tall!!!! Muhahahahahahaha!!!!!

yes, indeed. Four full-length recaps each week IS a super human feat. Speaking of super human reminds me of the drawing depicting Dal Ja wearing that superhero S that javabeans usually uses.

All that build up about these two getting together and then... this!
He's adorkable - in a Gen. Choi meets Agent So (Oguri Shun in Tokyo Dogs) kinda way.
It's absolutely killing me not knowing who she's going to end up with. Gah!

Hi there Open Thread #133. I've only had an hour of sleep last night, so it's taking a while for me to process your already long list of comments. I read Eye of Jade as Eye of the Tiger. It's okay though, I'm going to post messages anyways because I have the power in me of numerous cups of coffee, gummy bears, and my INTENSE HATRED OF POST #32.
I'm sorry there is no transvestite version of Prosecutor Princess everyone. But I can tell you if it were to be, In-Woo would dazzle your eyeballs out. And Yoon would be awarded the worst crossdresser in the history of korean men crossdressing as entertainment. I got some wishes granted this week on PP aside from new glasses for pouty-In-woo.... Jin put on a dress to go take random shots of herself for Match.com, we learned Jenny likes pancakes because that's the American way, and Yoons smile is more satisfying to me than watching In-Woo get all topless and teary. Also In-Woo has a rival. He should have declared to that man it was his creeper stalking ground, back off - he got there first bro, like years ago.
I'm jealous to all of you who got LASIK. It's okay, we all know you're nerds anyways. Getting rid of the glasses won't change that. No seriously, If I could get Terminator eyes, I would. Right now. Future, when are you coming? I wish you the best on your procedure lb_tmi! If you see a bunch of cats come into your room, some might call them....laser cats, it'd be best that you make a run for it.

@girlfriday yep... i definitely agree with you.. four recaps each week is a superhuman feat. does this mean JB is an alien? lol. JK. she's most likely just is a super super nice girl/woman? who works hard to provide us with recaps so yeah, it's hard to not snark back @32. I tried to resist it. i really did but oh well, I had to say my bit on the matter too, while being as civilised as possible. lol. only I don't have your genius and didn't talk about finger viruses. that part made me LMAO! you managed to sound both sarcastic and formal. :D
By the way, thank you so much for your recaps!
@the indian girl
well the ratings for PT did go a little bit down :( (while CS went up ;) ) for ep 10, from 14.2 to 13.9 so i'm a bit sad about this as well. but hey, at least it's not in the last place like PP TT.
As a PP's fan, i'm real depressed because the ratings are not in the 2 digits. I'll have to say it again at the risk of sounding like a broken record. that show is so underrated.
anyways, ratings do not define whether or not a drama is good altho i guess i does affect production. what a wonderful world it would be if all dramas has good ratings.
@janna ROTFL your post made me laugh so hard... PP transvestite!! ha.haha.
Okay, now i'm going to go console myself with another round of PP watching.

So, let me play a game I learned while studying for the SATs eons ago.
Yoo Seung-ho is to So Ji-sub as Yamapi is to Kamutaku.
Am I right? I am standing right at the precipice of finally getting to Yamapi (watched ep. 1 of Nobuta wo Produce last night), and that was my first impression. [Btw, Otomen started off much much stronger than Nobuta IMO]
Maybe I started with the wrong drama. Should I watch Proposal Daikakusen? Or Buzzer Beat, instead? Help, momosan and mookie. Btw, not having husband around means lots of TV epilepsy. Last night I also watched parts of F70s (baby youngling PIE and OMG the greek godness that is JJM) and baby Siwon in 18v.29.
@ doozy
Heh, one new kdrama commitment at a time, after Mawang definitely also will watch Goodbye Solo as well. But I owe @ serendipity a review so she can walawalawala wail on some insanity, so I best be off working on that in between watching as well.

I know what you mean about the 2 guys....I'm not sure who is gonna get her! IF it's flowing the way it is to the end...I don't know how many more episodes we got...but me thinks it will be In Woo. They haven't shown Jin back from her walk down cherry blossom lane....
I got curious and went to check last scene of ep 10 PT.....LMH planted a real humdinger of a kiss on Kae-In! I had to laugh when he spoke english in his accent....GAME OVER! There are some really funny bloopers at end of ep 9! I laughed out loud when LMH said....I can't remember my lines!
yep....its been a fun day!

i really really need to rant and get this toxic stuff out of my system...so really you just skip thru reading this BUT if u do want to then proceed with caution! ok how does one over come a sense of powerlessness? really how do you do it? you know you are the one who is being wronged, its unjust and its down right un-freaking-fair and you know it...but you still cant do anything abt it...how much beating can a body take before you can come to the conclusion tht ok enuff is enuff screw better judgement screw consequences well screw EVERYTHING! im done with this bs and taking them down plus giving them a big freaking piece of my mind!
but what if you did take the pacifist's way out and said ok this is the way it is you really cant do anything, just lets get this over with even if you loose face by keeping the trap shut...but when its over you are just left with the sense of powerlessness and the feeling that you just darn well let yourself down cos u felt so powerless...what would you do in a situation like that really what can anyone do siggggghhhh
i know i know this bs would make the beginnings of a great k drama and all tht jazz! what can i say sometimes life IS stranger than fiction! WORD!!!

Oh, thank god! I thought my eyes were deceiving me since the camera and his weird ass diction and gestures and facial tics kept obscuring his face for pretty much the entire episode, but the second I saw Yamapi's face for a good look - I seriously had time travel whiplash and flashed back to 1993 SMAP and Kimutaku in Asunaro Hakusho.
Woah, talk about annointing a successor. No wonder Yamapi fever is a-raging. And thanks for answering my question about his other dramas. Trust me when I saw I doubt I'm going to be a Yamapi fangirl, but I can already see where the fangirl love is justified. Boy is channeling Kimutaku prolly better than young Kimutaku tapped into his full potential back then.
Oh, and thanks for the love, lb_tmi (good luck with lasik, I'm still too chichen)! putting me in the same sentence as girlfriday is an honor beyond belief (seriously, like, rock my boat makes me giggle with glee). :-)

@ ockoala
well, i would say that yamapi's role is the most quirky (and his finnest in my opinion) in nobuta produce but you have to warm up slowly to the weird vibe of the drama first. it gets better with each rerun.. "akira power!"
well, for Prodai, it's the most romantic drama of Yamapi and set in high school and not bad at all (if you throw away some of the logic..)
for Buzzer beat, um, actually, that one is the most romantic one. scratch what i said about prodai. with more maturity but in terms of enjoyment, i enjoyed prodai way more.
Yamapi is hottest in Kurosagi but his acting in it was just okay. then there's also Code Blue (high ratings..but meh in my opinion), long love letter, dragon sakura (jp version of god of study and better in my opinion) and other dramas where he plays secondary roles.
basically, i think you should start with NwP first because that's Yamapi v. 1.0. after that, he switches to moody Yamapi 2.0 which is hotter but less adorable.
and well, ‘Yoo Seung-ho is to So Ji-sub as Yamapi is to Kamutaku’... um, i guess so. altho yoo seungho needs a bit more popularity to reach yamapi's level (of status, NOT acting) i guess. and kimutaku just rocks!
@ "i seriously have like a girl crush on you two. like, the wit and snark that comes out of your fingertips is so.. awesome. i <3 ur responses like muchos. thanks."

lol... no problem.. feel free to bring whatever in, especially if it's 5am over there... girl do you sleep? lol. I would be dead at that hour. and yeah, it's sad huh but i wouldn't go as far as say that's it's "game over" for PT... it's funny how those two words have completely different feelings depending on the context. when LMH said it before the "thing" he did in ep 10, it was a good, cool thing that made us squeal when here, it's more like a depressing thing. lol.
@reluctantbutaddicted
lol... you said the exact opposite of what I said... for me, i would rather go for prodai first and then buzzer beat. but then, i get your point bc prodai does tend to get repetitive so i get why you dropped it. that didn't bother me tho because there was development after a few ep and it was a cute story... for buzzer beat, i actually dropped it in the middle but i had to see them kiss so I ended up giving it another chance. lol. but i didn't like yamapi's character in it. i feel like his acting has gone downhill over the years.
@ockoala
um, with so many conflicting advices, i suggest you might want to go to endersgirrrl.wordpress.com. she gives reviews on dramas with kimutaku and yamapi and does not hesitate to point out flaws so that might make your mind. i'm sticking with the NwP tho.
and now... random shout out for Kim So Yeon! you're a great actress! I love you (not in that way.. i'm NOT lesbian.) altho i'll give in to MGY and concede that her scene at the end of CS ep 10 was killer acting

Yamapi/Kimutaku Debate
He totally was picked to be Kimutaku's successor, but I don't think I officially realized that until Buzzer Beat. Four - five years I ago I thought it was going to Takizawa Hideaki...and then Kamenashi Kazuya until Buzzer Beat. But the thing is Kimutaku at least has a good onscreen presence...not sure about Yamapi and I've seen most of his dramas. I heard Johnny has been promoting Yamapi as the new successor for at least the past two years maybe? To be honest Matsujun has better potential since he is a much better actor but he's not "pretty" enough I guess. Speaking of which Kimutaku has a new dorama coming out this season and it's a romance (It's been a few years I think since he's done one of the those). Will be interesting to see how that goes...
By the way, PT has been rocking for the past four episodes! Ryu Seung-ryong is totally awesome. I also hope he gets a happy ending. LMH and SYJ are wonderful to watch and the last scene in Ep 10 was pretty hot :)

Oooh... so THAT's why the apple scene seemed like it struck a chord... just didn't know where it came from. lol. thanks for the hint! like leeloo, i'm impressed with your bof radar.
it's like in PP, they had this most random poster of the brother kid missing from shining inheritance (same writers) plastered on a wall in a scene at the police station and someone pointed that out... i was like o_O.. wow, how do you see that! lol. i guess i'm not the most observant person. CS also had several references to Painter of the wind and others that i can't remember. lol.
@lululala
i agree... if they made the last scene of PT 10 a dream sequence, i will personally have a word with SHOW!!! i'm already mad thinking of that possibility.
@Taahua_07
well, actually, i think Taki was the KimuTaku successor for a while...while it lasted. and frankly speaking, he beats yamapi at acting.. although, yamapi definitely dominates right now. um, and yeah, kame and matsumoto jun are good contenders too. anyways, j-drama world is infested with JE pple like nino and sho from arashi, the heysay kids, kattun, news, yokoyama yuu from kanjani8, kinki kids, ikuta toma, okada junichi from V6, nagase tomoya from TOKIO etc... but i have to say that Kimura Takuya cannot be surpassed as far as i'm concerned.. he is still the best and I am SO freaking excited for his new drama. He's going back to playing a romantic lead so yay! i've watched all his dramas and his best role so far for me was Pride, followed by Long Vacation.
and now I am going for another round of PP. addicted much? you betcha? lol

I'd go with Nobuta. Not nearly as much fun as Otomen, but good.
Then there is Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge That has a high manga weird factor plus Johnny-boy-ness.
Kamenashi Kazuya of Kat-tun would have been my guess as Kimutaku 2.
I got sucked into Yankee-kun, which is airing now, and only ep 1 is out. It looks like it's going to be fun in a Gokusen meets Nobuta kind of way.

@ ockoala, mookie
It's official. I love you. Will you marry me?
I hate Kite Runner. And have so far only found in all the world ONE other person who shares this opinion. So how can I resist a rant when I suddenly find TWO right here?
Now, I also understand many people love this book, so if you do, apologies in advance, and please avert your gaze from the rant below...
ockoala, I'm pondering your comment that it's more the hype than Hosseini himself who poisoned the book. I have to say, up to now I have placed the blame squarely at his door - but I'm trying to be charitable. As a reader I don't think I'm a bestseller snob (e.g., Life of Pi = love) nor even a book snob (I too read trashy romance novels). But I felt that Hosseini set himself up, to be honest. I felt that he writes specifically to a Western audience, aiming to be that heart-tugging, heart-breaking blockbuster that informs the amazed world that Afghans are also human beings who have lives and suffer pain (gasp, amazement - ???). His characters are one-dimensional, his plot manipulative, his prose pedestrian imo. But worst of all I felt that he sold out as Afghani who purported to give the world a glimpse into his world, but imo could only present a shallow, manipulative, lowest-common denominator picture. OK, I don't really know Afghanistan so well (though I have done a bit of reading, so for instance at least I know about the Great Game, and the 1842 Kabul Withdrawal Debacle, which various Western powers seem to have completely forgotten) - so maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge, but I felt that his lens is Western rather than authentic. I felt he wrote from the point of view of "what would a wannabe-broadminded Western reader be impressed by?" rather than "what do I really have to say about my life and my country, from my heart?". I don't really know how to describe it, but I just smell that lack of authenticity. For instance, surely an Afghan is more concerned about tribal honour (hardly touched on in book), than whether his father loves him (a Western preoccupation?)? I also felt that he was writing the screen-play for his block-buster movie, which to me reeks of lack of authorial integrity. Again, hard to explain this impression, but for instance he would describe scenes as if they were a video unfolding before our eyes - what happens in sequence, what you would see, who says what, what colour is the burkha the woman at the door is wearing - instead of describing scenes from the internal or the meta perspectives. Well, as I said, I should try be charitable, and I guess I will concede that the hype probably had a hand in my rejection. Perhaps if I'd just chanced upon the book in a second-hand bookstore I would not have been as offended as if I were told that this book is amazing, life-changing and worldview expanding. And I think I have a particular liability to being disappointed because I have a particular interest in Central Asian history and in East-West culture, so I can concede that my expectations were probably unrealistically high.
@ Mawang
OK, ockoala, you've convinced me. I'll dig out my DVD. Especially if you savour rather than gobble, I think I can keep pace with you. I marathoned Mawang when I was off work with the flu. At first I was hooked by the soundtrack, the snappy pace, the camera-work and the intelligent dialogue. By midway I was sucked into the suspense of the story. Right up to the end, to the Very Last Frame, I was totally invested in the issues at its heart: Can there be redemption? SHOULD there be redemption? WHAT is redemption?
Please don't kill yourself with the review on my account! I've already stored the drama away and it's stopped running around my brain, and I don't feel any great urgency to dissect it. But if you do eventually get round to it, I think it would be fun for us all! So nice and juicy for us to dig into...

@v
There are a lot of contenders I guess, but people like Nagase Tomoya or Okada Junichi or even Dohmoto Tsuyoshi I don't know whether I would even consider because they existed in a parallel-verse with him (i.e. they've been some of his main competition for the past decade). I kind of muse whether JE bypassed the Arashi boys and picked Yamapi b/c collectively the Arashi boys are fairly talented compared to other JE groups and it would've been difficult to pick one over the other (I couldn't imagine Matsujun being picked over Nino or maybe even Sho).
Does anybody know what happened to Taki? He was like hot property for awhile especially when he had the taiga "Yoshitune." And then it's like he disappeared. But who knows, the J-dorama scene has changed a lot since Kimutaku became big w/ LV. While I like Kimutaku's romance doramas (I love LV and Pride)...but Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi is my fave Kimutaku dorama. That was well done, well-paced and everyone acted well in the whole cast. But it was an emotional wreck of a dorama...
But I think partially because I've shifted away from idol dramas in the past few years (it might be the kdrama influence), I'm more curious to see who might have the potential to fill Abe Hiroshi's shoes (will this even be possible?)

@Taohua
yeah, I agree with you... nagase, okada, etc. were during the time of kimura takuya.
And you're right, Arashi members tend to do well in terms of acting. For yamapi, he is kind of like a mystery for me. Okay, objectively, he is fairly hot and cute, and he can act occasionally but most of the time, his one-expression is just terrible and he can't sing. And yet, I was desperately obsessed with him to the point of calling it "love." lol. a bit like twilight. it's terrible and yet fascinating.
well, taki is no longer as hot in terms of popularity as before... which is a shame really cuz the guy sure is talented. the last I heard of him was when he was starring in a drama with ryo nishikido from NEWS (another decent one from JE) called Othros no somthing. It was definitely not the best drama out there and he could do better. I hope he will regain his status soon.
Well, like I said, Pride is my fav but I love all (or almost all) of KimuTaku drama's, including A Million stars falling from the sky (sora sora). I agree with you, that drama was INTENSE... good acting, and one of the darker works of kimutaku. and the ending... was... um.. not to spoil anything but it was kinda like what happened in bali but more effective. and yeah, good acting.
Abe hiroshi, huh? as far as i'm concerned no one right now.
Actually, for me, it's the reverse. I was following k-drama and then j-drama influenced me and made me drop k-dramas for a while. now, i'm balancing (read overloading) both.
and how did this thread go to discussing j-stuff? lol.
to go back somewhat to topic! um, what can i say... Can't wait till NEXT WEDNESDAY! the endings of PT (squee) and PP are still having an effect on me. and monday too w/ OML!

Who can't stop replaying Personal Taste #10!!!! OMG. EPIC EPIC EPIC.
Spazzing.
Lee Minho has never been so hot for me (I didn't finish watching BOF and I hated curly haired Gu Jung Pyo so yes, I never had the sentiments)
Yea, the writer oughts to get slapped if they do the "dream" sequence yet again.
Actually I'm more worried about them denying it due to the "GAME"

@24 me...me..me!
I'm going to Shanghai Expo this June. I heard from my bro in law ( who lives in China ) that the expo is huge. China loves to show off nowadays, huh?
My dad messaged me last night that he was watching the opening of the expo on TV and he said it was bigger than Olympic's opening ( i don't know whether it's true though :P ).
I finally will visit China. I'm going with my father in a tour, because my father always says, "I have to visit my ancestral land once in my lifetime ". My mother is too scared to take a flight ( she misses good things in life because of that, but what can I do, she's as stubborn as me ) so only both of us are going. My birth father will also go to a trip to China, but different route - he was supposed to go with my late birth mother a month ago.
Well, I'm excited! I never join a tour before, if I go overseas usually I have friends or families in my destination country.

@ Ana (from page 1)
I am so so sorry. I never saw your comment (until now), asking me why I loathe The Kite Runner, so when I answered doozy it must have appeared that I ignored you. I apologize for perhaps appearing aloof, esp. since you loved The Kite Runner.
I don't know if my answer to doozy explained it sufficiently, I tried not to give away too much of the plot. But my issues with The Kite Runner @ serendipity put into words perfectly. Yeah, what she said, I felt when I was reading it.
Here's the issue, and I totally understand why most people LOVED it, the story was impactful. But I didn't personally come away with that because from the very onset, the story felt manufactured. Does that make sense. You said The Kite Runner was a story that had to be told. If I got that impression, I would have loved it. But what I got was that Housseini "created", frankenstein-esqued, a soap-opera tangled-web-we-weave narrative to underly a message about courage and absolution. I don't object to his message, I object to the heavy-handed, condescending way he wrapped a message into a present and "gifted" it to the Western literary world.
I didn't appreciate it, it pissed me off. I personally, unlike serendipity, think he's a good writer, and honestly capable of much more. But this is just my personal opinion. :-)
@ serendipity
Well, since mookie and I are twins, and most likely conjoined without our realization, you really are just proposing marriage to one entity. I'll need to confer with her before accepting, you know that, right? :-P
I've been dying for over 2 years to write about WHIB. It's not for you, but its that The Devil has placed me out of the analytical mood for a melodrama and a contemplative mood for a thriller. :-) Mawang, its soul-sucking is what it is. I watch an episode a day. I need time to think about it afterwards. Let's watch together!
I maybe going to hell in a handbasket - but I had a dream about Lee Min-ho last night. I concede having no husband for the past week may have prompted it. But it was more likely prompted by the most emotional tension buildup to a kiss since CH (btw, CH still takes the cake, JG and SMR were seriously emotional sexing each other for episodes before the kiss).
But I got a text from my unni, and she assures me that if I'm going to hell for my impure thoughts, she's walking the road right alongside me. That is a reassuring thought indeed. She and I can chat about TGTBTW and LMK + LJK (our Lee Kis, the equivalent of the Kim Wons), and whether if we had a daughter, we'd marry her off to Park Kyu.

Don't worry about discussing jdoramas (and other regional dramas) on OT---there have been epic jdorama discussions on the OT in the past, especially when belleza's around. Taki's last drama Orthros no Inui (or something like that) ::sigh:: the first episode was kind of tortuous, don't even get me started...just know that it was pretty bad. Taki in general has been hit or miss with his dorama choices though.
I have to admit, I was way into Yamapi for awhile especially after Kurosagi even though I knew he wasn't a good actor...maybe he has some weird powers? Or maybe he seemed so cool or something. NwP was his best role, imho and while I thought Buzzer Beat was alright (though it was definitely channeling LV and other Kimutaku romances) I think Keiko Kitagawa carried the dorama more than he did.
@djes
My sister is going to the Expo this summer and I'm super jealous. I wish I could be there this summer, but am busy. But I hope you enjoy your tour!
@ockoala
Yay for Mawang watching! It still in my top three (I still need to watch Resurrection). The acting, the pacing, and how well and for the most part how tightly the story was written, it was wonderful. UTW was just awesome. Even though it has been more than two years (I'm in need for a rewatch), I still remember so many of his scenes, the desperation, the conflict in his eyes---he was just that good. ::sigh:: He was totally wasted in Queen Snoreduk. And I was also really impressed w/JJH. But I'm glad you are liking it!

Yeah, "heavy-handed" is the word I want. Gee, if only I could have dredged up that word without going on and on. (@ Ana, apologies, just ignore my snark! If you liked Kite Runner, more power to you! Being a critic is easy, and being cynical and critical is not much to be proud of.)
And why shouldn't we dream about Lee Min Ho? God gave us LMH so that we can dream about him. I only wish I could, instead of my usual ghastly anxiety nightmares about having no time to pack and rushing to catch flights, or taking exams for subjects I've now totally forgotten, like maths, or Chinese, ugh.
Now I've dug up my Mawang DVD, I'm wondering when the heck I'm going to find time to watch it. Still have PT to catch up with! Must get the LMH love!
@ Taohua
It's so funny: Everyone loves Yamapi, no one can understand why on earth. His leading ladies ALWAYS act circles round him, and we still love him. Belleza pretty much summed it up in one of her genius giggle-for-a-day statements: "Yamapi is the butterscotch stallion of J-drama." I had to look it up on the urban dictionary, lol, but you can guess the gist!

Oh, and I realized I'll prolly be talking to myself but anyways, anyone loved it when Jinho said "let's stop being friends" to Kae-in in Personal Taste episode 10?
I loved it because he said the exact same thing to his ex-girlfriend, Eun Soo, but in a different context, of course. At first when YEH's character questioned him ..what did you mean when you said didn't want to be friends anymore back then. I thought it he was bidding farewell to their relationship because he needed to concentrate on his career or sth.
But during the flashback I realized when he said it back then, he meant, "I don't want to be friends, because I want us to be more than that." Both burst into grins and locked in sweet embrace.
But when he said it to Kae-In, it's too tiring to be friends.. (because I can't treat you as just a friend) The implication is less obvious since they were fighting about the gay & straight marriage thing. And of course, Kae-In isn't all that insightful, as we all know
