it's finally Friday again...
I need to rest ( again ). My birth mother passed away last week, and my cousin passed away last Monday. It was so tiring have to attend and take care 2 funerals in a week, both emotionally and physically.
But now, I'm in better mood, thanks God that I'm easy to please, so good batch of Kdramas had made me feel better.
On lighter note, Chun Jung Myung is love! If I have him tell me face to face that moon is square, I definitely trust him. And THAT ADORABLE smile? melt my heart. It's not fair that he's still so baby faced!! ( And Taec, he looks older than his age, so cursed? :P )
Cinderella's Sister, Personal Taste, and Oh!My Lady - my days and my download schedule are full! This is the good time in Kdrama land.
Enjoy your weekend, everybody!

As for me, I'm still not so sure if I want to watch the 16 epis., or buy it (and spend lots of money) to get the director's cut version (20 epis.. or 21?)

@2 Amg1 -
thanks for the encouragement! you know, i have a new take on sageuks. as sad as they may seem to be, if you take it from the perspective that life is everlasting, then things aren't really THAT awful. That is to say, the bittersweet struggle for happiness and love, the tragedy of sacrifice and untimely death, all of these things should be put into the perspective that these individuals in these stories will get another crack at the wheel soon enough.
Death as finality, having but one life to live... these things are sort of alien to this sageuk world.
These characters weep for their mistakes, for their ignorance, for their pitiful circumstances and lost loves, but they do so because they are passionate. If you look at life from this point of view, then maybe things aren't so sad, after all?
food for friday OT. =)

@ djes, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. R.I.P to your mom and cousin, and hope you're coping well.
I know a lot of peepz love Eun Jo in Cinderella Unni, but I almost cannot stand her brash attitude. Her cynicism really rubs me off the wrong way, and her screaming really makes it worst for me. There's no denying MGY's doing a good job so far, but her character really frustrates me.
Ki Hoon, you can come to me anytime!!!~
Just a question, nobody watching Harvest Villa here? You guys are missing out on a wonder if you're not watching this. It has everything from humor, action, mystery to romance. A total HOOOT! Must watch it guys..
And oh, did anyone catch Rain's new MV Love Song? Ballad mixed with sexy (some say cheesy oily) dancing? Man, that BOD is to die for!!!

Sageuks are hard for me to follow. I think it may be because I'm not Korean so I don't have the whole culture of being one to draw me in. The only sageuk I actually followed was Hong Gil Dong, but that was a fusion and a comedy so it was pretty easy on the eyes.Mmmmm, Am I the only one with that problem? Because I can watch wuxia films (I'm Chinese) I just find it hard sitting through sageuks.

i'm sorry for your loss. little things really do help.. so drama away!!!
watched the first few mins of Cinderella's sister, and i can't get over how plastic-y Seo Woo's face is. she kinda reminds me of what the Frankenstein creature would look like.. all features singularly would be beautiful, but put together it becomes grotesque. i hope it's just her bubbly and over the top acting that makes me see her that way... hopefully i get used to her face and it doesn't bother me as much.
other than that, i totally second the CJM awesomeness!!! can it be i may not suffer second male lead syndrome for this drama even if it is hotness Taec? i also find Eun Jo's attitude a little too brash (like ripgal stated). but again, i'm only on episode 1.. so those are just first impressions.
on a different note, my butt cheeks are sore from working out last night. i don't think my fat is used to being jumbled around like that. LOL!
HAPPY WEEKEND!!!

@ djes: i'm sorry for your loss. samsooki's take is a good one. i'm glad you can find comfort in dramas.
the first 2 eps of cinderella unni i watched last week, and it's absolute love. it's refreshing to see characters that aren't completely predictable and same-old. <3
spent the last 2 days catching up on oml - siggggggh, siwon. <3 he is so glorious. i think he raises the average beauty of the human population by at least 70%. chae rim is adorable and awesome, and both the little girls are so cute. as someone who's been lately feeling the length of hour-long dramas, never a dull moment. <3 i'm a bit surprised they've had siwon basically totally ignoring his daughter, though, but i guess that bonding will be more prominent later, since things are speeding up with the otp.
good batch this year already! keeps ones spirits up to come home to good dramas.
hope everyone's happy and healthy.

Just finished watching Cinderella Unni ep 4 and the claws are out and the cats are going meow. How am I going to survive till next week when its this exciting.
Eun Jo's character is refreshing to me and its well acted. She reminds me of an abused cat who needs her trust won. If there were more heroines like her in kdrama land and acted by lesser actresses I doubt I could like the character as much. You have to admire her character's will to survive, stubbornness and straight forwardness but I have to say she definitely made that bed in episode 4. But I doubt she will be this moody and ansty as a grown up.
Man CJM is really doing it for me in CU. He is sweet and kind without the blandness. I've seen him in 3 dramas now but I think he is the hottest here and his acting has improved from his What's up Fox. Army has also instilled manliness in him though he is still boyish.
@djes-so sorry for your lost. l once lost a grandma, aunt and my favorite uncle all within a year and the hospital visits, funeral and after funeral rituals were emotionally exhausting. Hang in there.

@14 maria
I am feeling the same way, I was way more excited for Personal Taste, but I'm findnig it pretty dull....The actress playing Kae In is doing a lovely job. I think that, however, I am getting sick of the plucky, thickheaded, cheerful herione kdrama trope.
Cinderella's Sister, though, has really exceeded my expectations. It is not often that a tv show has such intricately drawn and thought out characters. Looking around on the internet, there seems to be a real divide in the audience, like you are either Team Eun Jo or Team Hyo Sun. That's good writing!
Seo Woo is doing an AMAZING job as Hyo Sun. What a talented young lady! Her nose, though, as others have said....it's too plastic and distracting. But boy, this girl can act her ass off.
I really love the dynamic between the two sisters. To those that are saying that EJ is too harsh to HS...she is harsh, but I think you have to remember that HS has grown up in an environment where she is supremely protected from the crueler aspects of life. One of the things that keeps her from veering into mega-annoying territory for me is that protected innocence. She genuinely doesn't understand why EJ hates her. Not because she's spoiled and conceited, but because she's had such a sheltered life, she can't understand EJ's coldness. Especially if you take into consideration that from what HS can see, EJ has a very loving and attentive mother. Maybe I'm projecting, but I know that I personally grew up in a similar manner (only child, only grandchild, etc) and for the first few years of my life all I heard was how awesome I was. When I got into the real world and interacted with people who weren't my adoring family, I was so genuinely shocked when people didn't like me. And it wasn't out of arrogance, but just being unable to understand that life isn't this magical thing where you get everything that you want forever and ever and that everyone loves you.
So, while EJ has been harsh, she's also been teaching HS about how the world really is. Better for her to learn this from a person who isn't truly interested in hurting her or trying to swindle her.
@ djes
So sorry for you loss. My sympathies...

If I only had a hand in casting, I'd rather
-IM JOO-HWAN - Irie Naoki; since his Tamna Park Kyu was too cute, and fits exactly with it…kukukuku
-SEO WOO - Aihara Kotoko, since it's also Tamna Beo-jin…
(an alternative can be our 돼지토끼 커플 Jang Geun-seok & Park Shin-hye *I am still on YAB heaven*)
-Either GEUM BO-RA or Stylist Wang’s actress - Naoki’s mother (I so missed Geum Bo-ra since DJG days, & “Stylist Wang” too *YAB Seasosn 2 pls..........*)
-JEONG IL-WOO could be Moto-chan, but I don’t know why…
-YOO SEUNG-HO could be Yuuki, but I think he’s too old for it…maybe he could be Non-chan/Nobuhiro
-UEE - Matsumoto Akiko (or was it Reiko?)…

@djes
So sorry for your loss. May you find rest and comfort from whatever source you can. I discovered Kdramas during a really horrible time in my life - sometimes you just need to turn off your brain and immerse yourself in a wonderful story.
@28 gnerd
I totally agree with you about Personal Taste... I can't bring myself to care about this same heroine, again, in another incarnation. I'm enjoying Oh My Lady much more, despite Chae Rim's extremely unfortunate hairstyle.
As for what you said about Hyo Sun, I agree, Seo Woo is doing an excellent job in acting her. (I guess I'm in the minority, but I also think she's beautiful.) As you said, anyone in that situation would have the same personality. It's natural, and it's also natural that it would drive Eunjo up the wall. I can attest to how off-putting it is to be around someone who has always had everything and doesn't even realize it, when you've lost so much. And even though Eunjo isn't right to be so bitter, it's a completely understandable reaction to the way her life has been so far. Ki-hoon gets this, which is why he's so sympathetic. (So far I've only seen the first two episodes though, so I may be off from what is now going on.)
Going to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid today with a friend. Happy Friday everyone!

Oh honey, I'm sorry for your loss.. :(
--
It's finally the weekend! Graduation is in three weeks, so I've got a ton of stuff on my plate that I've got to get done. Senior sem, a report on China-Taiwan relations, and a paper comparing different cultural terms for masturbation (yeah, you read right; such a funny and bizarre anthropology class), as well as making sure my car gets fixed in time for me to go home. Busy busy busy..
On a lighter note, tonight a couple of my friends are throwing a Hobo Party. (For those of you who remember, they're the ones who through the Nicolas Cage party several weeks ago.) I've decided I'm going as a dirt-poor aspiring plus-size model who's too broke to buy clothing or food, so she's wasting away (to explain why I'm neither "plus-size" nor "model-size") and has to create her own clothing out of garbage bags. :D I spent about an hour this morning designing my dress, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be fantastic.
Also, my housemate and I are going shopping today for spring clothing, since both of us are more fall/winter people and have discovered that we don't have much in the way of warm-weather wear. ^^; We got discount coupons from our favourite store the last time we were there, so we're devoting today to a stress-relieving shopping trip as a reward for working so hard on our senior sem projects yesterday.
Anyone else have any fun plans for this weekend? :)

Anyone watching Prosecutor P?
Just some thoughts on 3 & 4:
It's all becoming a bit City Hall right now, where the onslaught against MHR has begun, they're all coming at her, thick and fast and it's painful to watch. Where Kim Suna's character was right all along and wronged and bullied by others, MHR is unintentionally and partially the one in the wrong. And that's just her angered clients, in terms of her colleagues, I don't think they actually hate her, I think they simply see her as a hindrance and so they've all isolated her. (OK, so they hate her.)
Bless her, she is trying hard though. Like in episode 3 where she's denied taking on any real cases so she finds an extremely dangerous one for herself.
(Side note: I loved how she aped the ballsy ahjumma, with the leg-scratching, gum chewing and exaggerated hand movements, it was hilarious. And how hard she tries to get the little girl to talk but adversely the girl is frightened stiff of her.)
In terms of her transformation, the ball's already in motion: the hair has become very plain Jane, the makeup's barely there and she's already spent almost two episodes dressed like a grandma in a floral frock and slippers.
In terms of the male leads:
I'm warming up to PSH's character, he's funny and really sweet. Though I don't get his whole Bruce Wayne mystery thing and how it links to his childhood memories of her, that only HE seems to remember. All that yet to be unearthed. His relationship with MHR feels very platonic at this stage. Besides, she's already confessed to him how much she likes (read idolises) Yoon.
Now Yoon, he's a pretty straightforward guy, there's a reason for everything he does and for that he reminds me a little of of Won Kang-ha. He’ll make MHR work excruciatingly hard to earn his respect. Oh and another twist; that MHR resembles his dead wife (KSY doing a bit of a double-role thing here).
I was a bit taken aback by the way in which he told her ''never come anywhere near my house again'', when she turns up there with a huge basket of her homemade cookies for his daughter. (His daughter is absolutely adorable, btw!)
I think he doesn't want his daughter to see her and to notice the resemblance to her mother. It's understandable how he doesn't want to become further entangled with this crazy woman, but really… The way he spoke with her it was as though she was something dirty and shameful. And the crestfallen look on her face --ouch! Punnuma!
I like that she had enough dignity to be all ''ok, I get it'' and stalk off quietly.
Yes, she is dense, dresses dowdy, superficial, silly, even the shrillness is creeping in but there's still some charm and a likable factor. I'm so rooting for this unni.
Didn't like 4's ending, PSH shouldn't have stopped her from running away. Maybe it was a bit cowardly, but the poor girl needs some space to self-reflect, after the series of personal attacks.
Still don't hate Yoon though, he's just a little conflicted. Loved the elevator scene where she's dreamily stealing glances at his gorgeous, chiselled profile and he almost catches her before she quickly looks away.
I would totally do the same girlfriend!
I was contemplating dropping PP at some point, but for now I'm really enjoying it.

@4 djes
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I am glad your adoptive parents are there to support you in such a sad time. I hope that the rest of the year passes by with your entire family living healthily.

as for dramas, I've been feeling a little empty. None of the dramas I'm watching (Personal Taste, Prosecutor Princess, and Oh My Lady ) seem to be hitting the right spots for me and I can't bring myself to really root for any of the heroines.
I've only watched the first episode of Cinderella's Sister and liked it (Eun-jo is abrasive and I wouldn't want to be friends with her, but I do root for her), but I don't want to commit myself to a melodrama. I need a comedy where I can be proud of the heroine.
I've given up on the tw drama, PS Man since the episode where they stay at Xiao Qian's house. I was just upset at how the show has become more of a collection of cute, fan-service-y contrived moments. Anyone know if it has gotten better and does it have a more solid story now?

LOL LOL.....Yoon another Wong Kang-ha?!!!! At this stage of the game I'd really make a grab for Yoon first!
I am thinking that you watch RAW version of different episodes?
Yes, I noticed the change in MHR also....hair, clothing and not as much gaudy bangles....I got a kick her chewing gum....I'm still not sure what happened with the scene where her father drags her off the ramp because I only saw that RAW.
I'm anxious to see next episodes of OML! Also going back to check on Dong Yi.
