Prosecutor Princess holds open set day
by javabeans
On March 17, SBS’s Prosecutor Princess held an open set day at the Ilsan Production Center, inviting the press for a look behind the scenes at the filming location. Pictured above are the four main actors (from left to right): Park Shi-hoo, Choi Song-hyun, Kim So-yeon, and Han Jung-soo.
Prosecutor Princess has strong competition from rival dramas, and although Kim So-yeon has been acting longer than their lead actresses (Sohn Ye-jin of Personal Taste and Moon Geun-young in Cinderella’s Sister), she has had a more understated career in smaller projects and supporting roles. Therefore, she explained, she’s pleased just being compared with them now.
This role is a complete shift from her last, as she played the fierce North Korean spy Sun-hwa in last fall’s IRIS. Kim describes her Hye-ri character thusly: “She’s immature and simple, but she does mature through her profession as a prosecutor. There are certain aspects of her personality that are similar to my own in real life.” Playing someone more similar to her real personality is something Kim has always wanted, “and I feel like that’s happened with this drama.”
As the title character, Kim So-yeon said she feels a lot of responsibility, which has her anxious that she’ll catch a cold or fall ill and is therefore taking precautions to stay healthy. This is Kim’s first leading role in a drama in five years, since 2005’s Autumn Shower. (She’s only been in supporting roles in dramas like IRIS and Gourmet.)
This is also the first time we’ve seen secondary lead Choi Song-hyun, who landed this role after going through an audition process. Choi got her career start as a broadcast announcer and was in the drama Smile and the movie Girlfriends. (She frumps up her image quite a bit; she usually looks a lot younger and sexier.) She plays another prosecutor who is the complete opposite of Ma Hye-ri (meaning: serious and professional).
The drama premieres on March 31.

whoa the supporting female actress looks REALLY different!
Its good that she probably got this role for her acting, then, not for her image or attractiveness- roles seems to be too often given out for those things

Here's the teaser trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR7z-QU3hEY (very cutsy ㅋㅋ)
This drama looks fun but I'll have to see how the lead actors act. Wish all the best to Kim So-yeon though.. she looks lovely.

I'm not so sure who the male lead is. I think Kim So Yeon has more chemistry with Han Jung Soo than Park Shi Hoo.

Kim So Yeon is a beautiful woman....but the HAIR! I guess since her character is silly she gets a silly hair style?! Did they think we wouldn't catch on otherwise? I thought that's what good writing and acting were supposed to do. (shaking my head here)
Is it just me or does anyone else think that the stylists in Korea are much kinder to the male actors than they are to the women?

@firewife, about the stylists: quite the contrary. I think the men have it worse, it Wish upon a Star was anything to go by.
I was looking forward to this drama (albeit clutching tightly onto OB-GYN, it's timeslot predecessor) but after watching the trailer, I'm a sliiight bit put off. Hope it's more along the lines of my first impressions of it: Fun, but not entirely stupid.

heh! now i wanna see choi song hyun become more sexy and stylish by the end of the drama!
i just realized... this drama is starting to sound a tad bit like Legally Blonde - we've already got our Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair characters right here...

One thing I've learned after watching KDramas everyday for the last 3 years is that...it doesn't necessarily have to have REAL big stars to make a drama work(at least for me!!!) or succeed in entertaining us!!! Take the case of the recently concluded WUAS...the "chemistry"of the leads, the wonderful kids & the 180 degree turn around of their characters...completely reeled me in. As opposed to the much anticipated "Partner" of Lee Dong Wook & KHJ last year, or Triple, for that matter!!!
One big lesson learned too, is not to get too sucked in my these promo stills & previews...w/c don't usually amount to the whole story..
But one thing's for sure though...I only watch what JB & her group of friends...recap!!! Cuz most of the time...these are THE DRAMAS to watch!!! LOL!!!
What's our next drama then, JB?

OMO! General Choi! Now the question is.... what will be the excuses that will enable him to take off his shirt!! I'm sad because the opportunities don't seem as plentiful as in Chuno. boooo hoooo.

"I think the men have it worse, it Wish upon a Star was anything to go by."
BWAHAHA!! I think that might be an anomaly. (Poor Kim Ji-hoon. Did he insult his hair dresser or something?!)
I'm getting more and more curious about this drama. They couldn't have found a more divergent look from Kim So-yeon's IRIS character if they tried. I wonder as her Prosecutor Princess grows more serious, her style will change too or if she will just do her job while looking fabulous. And I liked Choi Song-hyun in Smile when I didn't think I would, so that's a good sign. (As long as she doesn't have to speak English, it's all good.)

When it came to bad styling, WUAS was definitely Equal Opportunity!
I have noticed a tendency in Kdramas to take a pretty actress and style her as plain, and frumpy as possible. I noticed it in Shining Inheritance too. The lead actress is beautiful, why did they downplay her looks? This is one reason I'm kinda on the fence about the new drama Personal Preference. I haven't decided if I'll watch yet or not.

Ah, Han Jung-soo, you will always be my General Choi! Personally I think the stylist needs to refit that jacket, but that's just me.

I'm confused now, I'm confused what is going to be my priority in the upcoming midweek dramas? All of them have their own charms. :| Might as well waiting for JB's recaps and the feedback first. :D

@1: She is Hanse's "honey" in Smile, you and Suk Bong's young mother in The birth of a rich man.
I'm sot sure about her acting but she's definitely bright (her characters are always opimistic)

I'm hoping for a better teaser from this drama. *sigh*
There really might have been a lot of pressure on KSY since her drama is the underdog among the three. Hope she'll do well.
I hope there'll be an update too on Oh My Lady.

 LOL, lotta ♥Gen. Choi♥ fans here ~ I prefer his Chuno hairstyle, though... ;) I've grown tired of the hair-combed-forward-into-bangs look...
@14: We can hope they do a lot of scenes in the gym! :)

given the choice that there are 3 new series broadcasting, my preference would
be prosecutor princess to watch. I hope this series is not all legal talk but more
light hearted romantic plot.

I watch all new shows for at least 5 minutes. If it captures my attention, i'll continue, if it's super boring, i'll quit. If that show does well and i hear tons of positive comments, i'll give it a try again. Of course they usually down play the looks of the main female because then the general population of females can relate to them better (I heard). I tend to hate the hair styles they impose on the leads, especially wigs. Aside from that, a great romance/comedy once in a while has magic and all is forgiven, hehe.

@15 Quaggy - I know!! Bad hair all around, but the shaved hairline?! Tee hee!
The stylist is picture no. 6 in this post: http://www.dramabeans.com/2010/03/a-day-on-the-set-with-choi-jung-won/
(Would love to get that cake and smear it all over her face.)
Just remember that face everybody and never let her go near any more dramas, ever!!
@Firewife - I don't know, I kind of like that kdramas play down the prettiness and play up the goofiness of the female leads, and that they still get the handsome, rich man. :)

i love this drama. at first i hesitated coz its not the usual drama that is basically romance with conflict on love triangle. this has a lot of twists and honestly once you start i just had a hard time stopping... though I'm a fan of Lee Min Ho, i must say i like prosecutor princess better than personal taste. just an opinion. way to go park shi hoo!!!
