Park Jin-hee: Calling Shin-youngs everywhere!
by girlfriday
Nate News conducted an interview with Park Jin-hee, the spirited actress currently playing everyone’s favorite single thirty-something, Lee Shin-young, in MBC’s The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry. The following is a summary and translated quotes of her thoughts on the show, her co-stars, and turning 30.
Park Jin-hee Interview
The 33-year old actress debuted back in 1997, with the KBS drama “Start” and has had a diverse career in film and television. She’s graduate-school educated, and on top of being smart and beautiful, she’s got a great personality to boot.
Park is game for a no-holds-barred interview: “When have I not been honest? Ask me anything.”
She praises the drama’s staff, director, co-stars, and with a laugh, says that the only thing it doesn’t have going for it is ratings.
When asked about acting with Kim Bum, she answers with a question, “Does it seem realistic? People should watch Bummie and me and think it’s for real. That’s my homework.”
The reporter asks if she would date someone that young in real life. “Hm. Every case is different but I think I could do it. The thing I feel when I’m with Bummie is that he thinks about a lot of things that I didn’t at 22. His thoughts are deep; he’s like that. At that age, I just did what I was told, but he knows how to assert his opinion.”
Park also praises Kim Bum for delving into his role, buying his own guitars to immerse himself in the Ha Min-jae role.
She lauds PD Kim Min-shik, saying that he’s a sunbae in real life, not just on set, and that she’d love to work with him on any future project.
About turning 30: “When I was 20 I thought, ‘If I turn 30 without a boyfriend or a career, I’ll have to commit suicide.’ But as 30 came closer, as an actress, I started to live a much more comfortable life. So from that point on I wanted to turn 30 sooner.”
Why she looked forward to 30: “In my teens and twenties I really thought one-dimensionally. You could say my scope was narrow. I didn’t understand things and couldn’t forgive a lot of things. But as I passed 30 I became comfortable.”
Concerning success in relationships: “I don’t know if I’ve succeeded in dating or not. For now I’m not dating anyone. Honestly, I’m older now; is there really a need to hide anything? When I was young I wanted to marry early, so if a good man appears I’ll go for it.”
When asked if she has high standards (for men): “I did before. But now every time it’s different. Truthfully the problem is I don’t have the opportunity to meet men. To this day, while acting, I haven’t experienced romantic feelings toward someone. I’m going to start from now on. Haha.”
About the couples and characters in TWWSWTM: “Min-jae and Shin-young are a cute couple, but with a big age difference. Ban-seok and Da-jung are a comic couple, who are older but very innocent. Sang-mi and Sang-woo are a more mature couple. If you watch them they are totally adult. They often do provocative scenes and it’s really something.”
“And it’s not just the three couples. Bu-ki enjoys being single and if she’s in a relationship that’s fine, and if she isn’t, that’s fine too. Bu-ki’s character is really cool. She wears what she wants, she meets any man she wants. She lives that way and I think that’s really impressive. With Da-jung, Ji-won unni is just such a good actress. That character, now that she’s found her match, we won’t see her damaged side anymore.”
About Shin-young’s own damaging moments in the series: “Filming the early episodes, we got lost in the mountains, my mouth got turned around, and there were lots of incidents, but they were fun so I didn’t feel like it was hard work. Kim PD comes from sitcoms so he says that funny moments should be acted seriously to be even funnier. He believes that you have to be sincere in order for the moment to play as funny.”
“Really that scene is a tear-inducing moment. Her relationship falls apart, her news report can’t air, her ex is getting married as she becomes newly single. Instead of being intentionally funny I filmed that scene sincerely. Maybe that’s why it ended up being funny.”
About acting with Kim Bum: “The age difference worried me at first. But now we’re actually comfortable because of that age difference.”
She teases an upcoming kiss scene as “a special kiss involving a musical instrument.”
I KNEW those guitar lessons were going to lead to some hanky panky!

Not only is Shin-young one of my favourite characters in kdrama, but after reading this interview, Park Jin-hee has become one of my favourite actresses. She's someone I would really like to be buddies with.
Thanks, girlfriday for this great post!

That first picture of her is so stunning. I've always thought she was lovely, but I literally just stared at that picture for a couple of minutes. (Okay, that might also be because I want her sweater.)
She seems really down-to-earth and fun here, and I like how she calls Kim Bum "Bummie." :)

I also find her very pretty. I want to be as pretty as her at 30.
And as for Kim Bum , he is just adorable. He played his role very well.
She really did her homework. I super love their chemistry. When I'm watching them, I can feel/tell that they are so in love with each other. I enjoy watching them together.

She seems so adorable, and really comfortable in her own skin (how sexy is that). I think the chemistry between her and Kim Bum is sizzling. Enjoying watching him is kind of a given, but I find myself staring at her in scenes, too. Her face is really engaging and I absolutely love when actors can convey emotions wordlessly with their eyes, and she definitely does! Best eyesex couple since City Hall,. in my opinion!
I'm interested to go back and watch her earlier roles now that I've gotten such a girlcrush on her in SMM. Thanks JB!

@ Dramaking - The black top underneath seems unusually mono hued and almost photoshop like.. esp near the top! I don't think they photoshopped her breasts but they might have pulled a Un Nyun to cover up... !

I think her skin really is in good condition in real life. Saw some of her outdoor activities photos and she looked just as adorable.
I like the interview. Can't resist any actors/actresses that have charisma like this.

Love her in Still Marry Me. Her chemistry with Kim Bum is really sizzling.
And because of them, makes me really look forward for Lee Min Ho-Son Ye Jin & Chae Rim - Choi Si Won's pairings...whether they'll be able to make as great chemistry as Park Jin Hee and Kim Bum.
I saw her a bit on Money Warfare, my first impression was that she's pretty. But now I admire her acting. And I admire these 3 girls' acting. My favorite drama at the moment.

#9 Dramaking, yeah I think she is really curvy from what I saw in the drama. Pretty nice figure.
I think this drama has one of the best ensemble cast I've seen in the past few years and it's a pity that the ratings aren't better since it's quite well written too. I find that drama with a good realistic portrayal of life doesn't seem to get a huge following in Korea which is a pity. This drama is well acted and well written (though it's getting a bit dramatic now with the whole possible mom in law dating ex bf plot) and it would be a pity for everyone involved to not reap some measure of success from a job well done.

Ok, so I was talking to a friend who's dating a guy 9 years her junior. She just recently met his roomie who's about the same age as her; they had an instant connection and immersed in a deep conversation about arts and poetry, leaving the young guy like a spectator at a tennis match. She said, that's what's missing in their r'ship, well duh, I already knew that the moment I met them together once. But I didn't wanna say anything since she was head over heels with the young chap.
Anyway, I wanted her to watch the series but she's not into kdramas...boo!
Thanks, girlfriday, for this!

Thanks soooo much for translating this article, girlfriday!! I found this article few days ago and tried to translate it with google translation. Man, they were weird! Luckily dreamgazer approached you and ask for your help!
I LOVE KB and PJH's chemistry and it seems like PJH enjoys working with him a lot. Now I want to hear KB's version. He was asked about PJH in an interview during the BS-DJ interview. I can understand dialogues in dramas, but interviews is another thing. Sigh.

While I already think she's pretty in the drama, she's a whole nother level of stunning in that first pic! She's so much more beautiful without those bangs!
I've just started watching this drama and like it a lot. I think that Park Jin-hee and Kim Bum have great chemistry, and together with very solid acting their relationship is very believable and so much fun to watch to see how it continues to develop against all odds.
The interview left me with the impression that Park Jin-hee is just one of those rare individuals who has been blessed with the whole package--brains, beauty, a great personality, and a wonderful heart. Wow. I look forward to watching this drama in its entirety, as well as Park Jin-hee's future projects.
Girlfriday, thanks very much for posting and writing about this interview. =)

Please know that you're made of much awesome win. You > Internet.
Thank you so much for this.
@ cranky: I agree. Her body is rather voluptous compare to the usual body type of female Asian celebs. She got curves everywhere. I love it.
She's graduate-school educated? That's so impressive. Does anyone knows where and what major? Google totally failed me on my stalking her mission.
"She teases an upcoming kiss scene as “a special kiss involving a musical instrument.”"...AGH! and knowing the PD, they probably cut it out like all the other great hanky panky scenes. >=[

I didn't recognize her either in the first pic--what a beautiful woman she is. I absolutely love everything about this drama: the actors, the storyline, the music. I can somewhat relate to what SY is going through; I was going through a separation/divorce (my hubby and I have since reconciled) but during the year I was on my own, I was dating guys 10-11 years younger than me. I guess it helps because I'm Asian and don't look my age, but I didn't realize how much age matters when it comes to relationships of the heart. I had turned 40 at the time so I was conflicted. What's funny is that the guys didn't care but I did. Would I do it now if I were in that position? I don't know.
I love MJ in this role and he's playing a very mature 24-year old which makes his relationship with SY seem so believable. I'll be watching Episode 11 tonight so I hope they post more episodes soon. I am so loving this drama. How many episodes will there be? I hate to see it end.

have always enjoyed Park Jin Hee in the few movie roles I have seen of her.
was actually skeptical abt this drama (that age gap .. and Kim Bum?!)
BUT ... what a surprise! and it's not just enjoyable for me, it's addictive.
Kim Bum's lucky to be acting with PJH - she's so down to earth, seems easy going, comes across as someone with a brain ....
together ... their pairing has been so naturally believable.
this drama such an easy, yet captivating watch - may seem like fluff, but really isn't.

A really great person inside and out.
Though she's a bit underrated, unlike the other superstars in Korea.
Acting wise she's one of the best.
I like her honesty, humbleness and humor in all of her interviews.
P.S.
She just graduated last october at Yonsei University with a master's degree of Social Welfare, despite of busy showbiz schedule she managed to graduated with straight A's!

This drama has the magic factor for me and I love it. I wonder if Kim Bum find it hard to resist her..hehe. She's beautiful and Kim Bum is so sweet/cool. I've finished the whole drama with Chinese sub because i couldn't wait for Eng sub which is what i prefer. I must have seen each ep over 5 times!! Can't believe it. The OST songs are great. I wondered why some of the kissing scenes are zoomed away ... maybe they don't won't the young Kim Bum to have too close kissing shots? He really is too young to be so sexy/handsome, hehe.

I just became 24 years old yesterday and I still don't mind date or marry Park Jin Hee... After watching Still Marry Me drama, I realize it's not the age should be the matter, it's matter of ones inner feeling toward someone. Also, when u r soulmate is little older, I think it's the best since she will be more wiser and understandable.
