Moon Geun-young sheds tears for Cinderella’s Sister
by javabeans
After beginning shoots on her new drama, Moon Geun-young is drawing praise from the staff of KBS’s Cinderella’s Sister for her tearful acting. The title stills were taken not long ago (and the first set of still cuts released), and took the following concept: Moon’s character has lived a tearful life where she has been unable to be happy, but starts to feel some contentment when she comes to live in Cinderella’s (Seo Woo) house. However, at some point she starts to feel a sense of uneasiness.
Moon completed shoots with her co-stars Chun Jung-myung and Taecyeon where she laughs freely, then abruptly shifted to tearful shoots without a hitch. The crew was impressed with her acting range and praised the smooth shift she made from one extreme to another. The production explained, “The day’s title shoots focused on re-creating a beautiful fairy tale feel.”
The drama Cinderella’s Sister is a reimagining of the classic Cinderella tale for the 21st century and airs on KBS Wednesdays and Thursdays, premiering at the end of the month.
(…and I really hope this focus on tears is fleeting. Tears are well and good, and a kdrama can’t be without them entirely, but I’m really not in the mood for bucketfuls of them at the moment.)

...You'd be surprised.
Anyway, this is really starting to look like a melodrama, isn't it? I totally didn't expect it when rumours first surfaced of this drama... Ugh, I can't stomach angstfests, but the cast is so good. Chun! Jung! Myung! And I'm interested in seeing how Taecyeon would carry himself, because those first stills looked better than I thought.

Well, a LOT of actresses nowadays can't even "cry" seriously. Moon Geun-Young is the youngest Korean actress to win a daesang in acting. To sum it up, the article above just shows her versatility as an actress and acts as a proof of her being the best in her generation.
Jiayou, Monn Geun-Young-ssi!!!

They need to release happy pictures STAT. you can't just say they had a normal shoot and then keep releasing pictures of MGY crying.
I also REALLY hope that the 2PM PR disaster gets cleared up before this airs b/c I don't want that ridiculousness getting in the way of what could be a good drama.

@hpn88 :
Don't worry...I think MGY, CJM, SW's fans are mostly not 2PM fans anyway, so they won't be affected by those 2PM's issues....which is a good thing.
I bet there are still many viewers who don't give a damn care with 2PM's matter...
( me, for example. I like 2PM much, but I don't care with their issues. I only know that we have to enjoy a good drama :D )
Really excited for this drama.

I'm sorry to say, I'm growing less and less interested in this drama. At first it sounded intriguing, with Moon Geun-young as a villain, but now it seems like it heading in the direction of "Typical-KDrama-Heroine-as-a-Misunderstood-Villain" which doesn't really intrigue me as much. To make matters worse, the whole things seems like it's going to be very angsty. Shame, because I like all three lead actors.

Knowing the writer and having seen most of his/her previous works, there will DEFINITELY be tears in this drama. Haven't seen a drama of his/hers without a melodramatic tone...
But Robbers had cute and fluffy moments albeit a major part of it was depressing and sad. I doubt Cinderella Unni would be much different.. unless the writer changes her/his writing style.
But on point, MGY's looking great. Even in tears. Who would hate such an angelic looking evil sister?

From the upcoming dramas, this and Prosecutor P look really appealing. Can't wait.
I get quite hormonal during the winter so I like something substantial in terms of story and for it to be an emotional rollercoaster, which means, heartwarming, bucketfuls of tears, some grit, angst and lots of lulzy moments too.
WISFC was good, but still didn't fulfill the quota, now OB-GYN is totally my remedy.
Still, I have room for a little more melodrama, and this looks good. As long as it's not totally depressing, please don't let this be another MiSa or Bali, I'm not too fond of tragic endings.

@6 Quaggy. I agree, though i'm still hoping they will surprise us with MGY's villain character. I don't mind hte misunderstood villain thing as long as some villainous gets done.
It looks like MGY's villain character was still nice enough to make Taecyeon's 2nd lead character lunch when he was poor and she looks really angelic in that pic- so i do wonder how much of a villain she is going to be. maybe it will be like this: she was nice. then she turned evil. and lastly she reforms.

Brilliant Legacy had oodles of tears too, but would you refer to that as a melodrama? Let's not get ahead of ourselves, people.
This is looking better and better to me. I love how we have no idea what to expect (other than amazing performances). I seriously cannot wait!

It seems the 2PM faithful are asking their fans to boycott this drama, due to it co-starring Taecyeon. I've never seen a drama get so much ill, that they want the series to fail in ratings.

Still no pics of Seo Woo? Hmm.. (I'm not complaining to JB here btw) She's one of the main leads and I wonder why they still don't have anything for her and have to resort to milking MGY's crying ability to promote their drama.
My anticipation level for this drama is so high it's ridiculous. I even dreamed about it last night.. I really shouldn't get my hopes up too high not to be disappointed later. For me the writer's best work was Piano and I'm just hoping that her new drama will at least come close to that. I hated the plot devices she used to make the main guy character to feel guilty to his love interest (as in Robber and Dr. Kkang) and hope she has none of these and also no "jo-pok" and excessive "jin-sang" characters please!!!

@michelle: Yeah, but at least some of the promo shots for Brilliant Legacy showed people smiling and *happy*. Here, they all look angst-ridden and weepy. It would be nice if they posted some pictures of the cast smiling... then I might not be so pessimistic.
Of course, I'm still going to watch this show regardless, since I'm a fan of every cast member... but I really don't want to watch another Staircase to Heaven or Heaven's Tree... so I'm hoping this isn't a true representation of what we're supposed to expect from the drama. Hopefully it will be a bit lighter (though judging from the writers past work, I'm starting to doubt it.)

If Cinderella's Sister is going to be as weepy as all the promo photos have turned out, I'm not sure if I'm going to be watching it after all...but we'll see.
And about the whole 2PM thing...I'm not sure how much it'll really affect the drama itself because it's really only 2PM fans that are making all the noise. I don't really even understand their reasoning. They're boycotting because a member left? That's like boycotting Lee Jin Sung because Kim Min Soo died. Actually, not so much, because the death was an accident and they still haven't cleared up why the guy left 2PM, but it's the same idea. It's just ridiculous. I think the drama has generated enough buzz on its own to be able to withstand any attempted boycott.
And who knows? Maybe more people will be tempted to watch the drama BECAUSE of the whole 2PM thing, to foil their misguided plans.

@lsk4020 they are boycotting because of the members attitude and their statements towards their fellow member, jaebum at the conference not just because of him. they disappointed fans with their acting friendly and mentioning jay all the time on broadcast to use him for their popularity even tho it was after they agreed with jay's withdrawal thats why.

So they're upset that the rest of 2PM was using jay for their popularity after he'd agreed to leave? That makes more sense than what I'd heard. Thanks for clearing that up =]
Though I'm still not convinced that it's solid grounds for a boycott...

I gotta be honest. It's a little letdown. I was expecting a mean, badass MGY being generally the bitch sister. But the stills I've seen so far show her in a sadder light. And for some reason, the vibe reminds me of Will It Snow on Christmas, not necessarily bad, but just something I didn't expect.
Gimme bitch MGY!!

"maybe it will be like this: she was nice. then she turned evil. and lastly she reforms"
With absolutely nothing to base it on other than the promo pictures, I have a feeling it's actually "She was nice, then she did nothing when her mom turned evil, she reformed, but it's too late because her step-sister is now out for revenge and is making her life miserable."

asianromance and Quaggy:
- Easy; two sister's falling for the same guy, the one the guy really cares for is going to be painted as the crafty, manipulative one, who 'stole' him.
- Or mother's favouritism creates some bitchiness and rivalry between both sisters.
A combo of both the above seems highly likely.
Lavverly, my kind of story already.

I'm a 2PM fan & although I'm utterly P.O with the whole situation, I refuse to let that get in the way of me watching what could possibly be a great drama. I adore MGY as an actress & can't wait to see her back on-screen again so I'm all for this drama as well as Personal Taste.
Agree though this drama better not be all tears, I want their to be a good balance of humor and "melodrama".

N.O. No. 2PM fans should stay out of this. Taec is Taec. In this show, he's an actor. Not an idol. I hope this show won't get all the nonsense from the past week.

Funny how boygroup fans would boycott a drama just because they hated how the management handled the group. The drama is different from the group anyway. That's just crazy and shallow. And even without them, people will watch the drama because of the drama and not because of the newbie actor who's incidentally a part of a boygroup. The drama helmed by MGY and company can definitely stand on its own.

@38 Anonymous, it is exactly because fans are mad at the management group that they would do something like boycott a drama. They are out to boycott anything that would bring this management company money, from Market O Brownies to the latest drama. That being said, I do not know if the boycott will spread to other JYP Entertainment deals, such as the drama Personal Taste (which features Seulong of 2AM). I am watching this unfold with probably unhealthy fascination.

Yes, but even without them, why would they ever think that they can pull down the drama just because they're boycotting it? No offense to idol stars' fans, but Taecyeon isn't even the main lead here. His inclusion in the drama might help, but he's not the main attraction here anyway. MGY and even CJM have their fanbase already. Seo Woo is also one of the fast rising star among her contemporaries.
And I'm sure even if they said that they're boycotting it, as long as Taec is still their fave, they will be tempted to watch it. :p

MGY is a great actress, very gifted and expressive. She's very effective in romantic comedies and very impressive in melodramas too.
I just wish that this one will have more light moments, than the sad ones. And pleeeease let no one die in the end! Or hanging, unresolved in its conclusion. Enough of that type of endings, my gosh, it's already 2010 ! Even planet earth has already shifted in its axis recently, may there be change once in for all !
