Cinderella’s Sister releases its music video

As previously announced, KBS’s new drama Cinderella’s Sister has released an introductory music video prior to the drama’s premiere (this Wednesday), which you can watch below. The song featured is from the OST, called “It Has To Be You” (너 아니면 안돼) and is sung by Yesung.

As a whole, I tend to be skeptical of stuff like tie-in MVs, especially since the drama hasn’t aired yet and none of these characters means anything to us yet. It’s just a music video and we’ve pretty much seen all the stills already. I may be colored by my general fatigue of Cinderella’s Sister-related promotions, but I think the moments would have meant more outside of an MV format. For instance, the back-hug is pretty great — a short moment with some keen acting by Moon Geun-young and Chun Jung-myung — but I would much rather feel its impact within context, since I love those actors and know they’d kill the scene.

The drama premieres on March 31, and I know I’m not the only one who will be breathing in relief, “Finally!” Here’s the MV:

truthfully, i wouldn't be watching this drama if it wasn't for moon geun young and that cjm dude, even if i never watched his dramas before.
i thought he looked cute in whats up fox but i never got the chance to watch it, but since he seems like a guy with lots of experience in acting, i started to anticipate it.
i want to see what moon guen young can bring to the stage again because her acting is just brilliant! i love how she puts her whole heart and soul into acting.
and for seo woo, i normally never ever accuse people of have plastic surgery. when i watched tamra, she didn't really bother me, and i thought she was realli cute. but all of a sudden, her appearance in this drama, it made me realize how HUGE her eyes were. it looks kind of abnormal. but i uno.
anyways, i am not a big fan of taecyeon anymore. he seems too cocky and i dunt like the fact that he appears EVERYWHERE, i feel like all these activities that has been called out for him is raising up his cockiness way too much.
i miss jaebeom. and seriously, i feel like there is no 2pm anymore, and it feels like taecyeon is the only 2pm member now. and what else, i feel like taecyeon is trying to take jaebeom's spot in 2pm as the leader. taecyeon's shirt ripping, showing off his abs is turning overrated, and before, that was what jaebeom would always do, but i never thought it was overrated with jaebeom.
sighs, anyways
i anticipate for this drama only for the 2 main leads.
haha, if i lived in korea, i would have SUCH A HARD TIMEEE trying to choose between personal taste and cinderella story.
but yeah, i'm anticipating both of these two dramas very much!

Tomorrow is going to be an awesome day for drama fans. Lee Min Ho + Sohn Yeh Jin = LOVE and Moon and Chun are going to be awesome too. I look forward to Seo's perf after seeing her in Crush and Blush as well. Taec, he better bring it to the screen tomorrow or a whole load of bull regarding 2PM is going to hit the fan...and not in a nice way either. Just hope it doesnt affect the overall quality of the drama. Dude, they never should have cast him as second lead. If it spoils the overall drama for me, I will never forgive the person who cast him. Don't want a repeat of Ji Hoo again, regardless of how lovely Kim Hyun Joong was and is...i want someone who can bring the emotions and not feel like, 'is he supposed to be sad or angry or happy?'
anyway, PERSONAL TASTE and Cinderella's Sister fighting!!! Goodluck and i hope everyone has a great time watching tomorrow. cannot freaking wait ^^

Wow.
If Taecyeon ruins this drama for me, I'm going to be furious.
MGY and CJM are such talented actors, but WTF is taecyeon doing?
All that time in the MV, he was coming off as contrived.
He really needs to learn how to go act.

I think Seo Woo looks weird because of her makeup. She looks so.. shiny. HAHA. Also, they made her lips look HUGE with the light-colored stuff they put on it.

Okay, people we get it, you won't be watching this. Why are you going into so much details about how much you won't be watching this because you think Taecyeon has a bad attitude? Stop venting your feelings about 2PM here.

Anyways, the scene when CJM hugs MGY is actually kinda beautiful lol. & regarding SW looking plastic, I think they did that on purpose because it seems like her character is kind of fake/two-faced?

There's a lot of running and chasing. Herm. I don't like that theme. Lolz.

I have the TV on as I'm watching the MV, and a cell phone tune played when Taecyeon picked up his cell phone to call whomever. For a second I thought that the cell phone tune was from my phone. My heart leaped.

it must be the time for resurgence of melodrama these days ^^'' we have Will It Snow For Christmas and now Cinderella's Sister - not that's I'm complaining though =P

I'm quite curious about how these actors and actresses would make the story flow.
It has already been proved how actors/actresses with solid acting skills in WISFC drove the drama in a pretty good direction - I really wish that the same thing would happen to Cinderella's Sister.

Moreover, I tend to root for characters who are misunderstood by others or who have to suffer from such tremendous hurt that somehow turn bitter in the very sad way (take, Young Mi - Kim So Yeon in All About Eve, for example). Thus, would love to see such a character as Eun Jo becomes the leading one (finally!!!!). Well, the script and the acting have to be really good to convince the audiences...

Haiz, while I admit that I'm looking forward to Cinderella's Sister, I miss the fun dramas such as My name is Kim Sam Soon, Coffee Prince so much +_+ well, maybe You're Beautiful as well :-? anyway, I love releasing stress rather than weeping along with the drama +_+

how the hell am i suppose to watch Cinderella's Sister and Personal Taste at the same time??!! i would probably reduced my sleeping hours, and resulted in me always sleepy in the office, :P
since both are from different genre, i'd probably watch which ever my mood tells me to, the melodrama or the romcom... well good luck for both dramas...

Great MV! I'm already fangirling for MGY's character. I'm not familiar with the 2pm guy so I will save my judgment on him later. CJM is my boy. Love him!

Ugh, Seo Woo. Why did she do that to herself? She's too young. She was already beautiful before. I hope her face won't overshadow her acting because the plastic surgery is *very* noticeable, sorry to say.

Looking at the music video it seems as if MGY's character is actually the Cinderella and not the other girl. MGY's character is wearing shabby clothes and seems at a distance from everybody else while the Cinderella character is sitting in a club wearing nice clothes and hanging out with friends. The only thing that makes a little more sense is that MGY's character is more nasty while the Cinderella character seems to be more nice (albeit the fake kind of nice). It's sorta little confusing to keep straight.

i'm not buying MGY's character...seems a bit forced
second...i might be the only one on earth who feels this way but I don't really like MGY in this drama, I just don't think she is the best one for this kind of storyline. I know she can act and probably this will be the drama that will showcase her ability to be "evil" but just can't get absorbed into it. I'm guessing that I need to wait until the drama is out to really know.

Secondly, I don't like any of the casts other than Taec cause I want to see how he acts. And the stupid 2pm posts, stop judging people because of their personality, it's all about acting.

It's disappointing that the MV doesn't show anything new than the teasers and stills we've seen before.
But I'm excited to see how the drama will go, especially with strong leads like CJM and MGY.
And also Personal Taste! I wonder how the rating will go between these two.

All those who kept criticizing Taec should better stop now. If not for him this drama will surely be devoured by PERSONAL TASTE in the ratings game. Moon Geun Young is already losing her popularity, her comeback drama last 2008 was BARELY successful(only had 10-15% in ratings) that's why she even lost the popularity award to IM YOONA. Face it, she's more popular on her TEEN days but she isn't anymore that's why she's already FADING. And how about Seo Woo here whom we can call the FLOP PRINCESS from the series Tamna and the movie Paju. Oh, and the supposedly main guy is just so FORGETTABLE. He's already old and will never reach the stardom like Hyun Bin, Lee Junki that's why he's trying to ride the fading fame of MGY, how desperate of him. Taec is the saving grace of this drama with his popularity.

Everyone's got their own opinions but I think the comment above is a little (okay, a lot) skewed:

Moon Geun-young won a Daesang for Painter of the Wind and is one of the most popular actresses her age. She's an A-lister and hardly on the decline. She's like a Dakota Fanning more than a Miley Cyrus, so you can't really call her unpopular for losing a popularity award to a pop singer.

Seo Woo's Tamra had low ratings but Paju is earning a lot of sleeper buzz and she's been getting a lot of critical praise recently. She also got a lot of praise for her role in Crush and Blush, and The Housemaid (hot!) will probably solidify her status. She's on the rise.

Chun Jung-myung has been in the army for the past two years, he has a good reputation and is known for being an "actor" more than "star." There's a tremendous amount of interest in his next project. Hyun Bin and Lee Jun-ki haven't gone to the army yet, so you'll have to compare popularity after they've been out of the spotlight for two years themselves.

Taecyeon is the least known cast member in this drama. He may have a lot of fans for being in 2PM -- admittedly a large fanbase -- but he is probably the smallest draw for this drama to the overall viewing public.

@Javabeans

Agreed. I'm very optimistic about this drama. The storyline is compelling, but it's going to be about how the actors and actresses deliver their roles. Besides, I need a break from romantic comedies. Love it, but too much is, well, too much. I like the mv...excited.

About Seo Woo looking plastic: I saw her in Crush and Blush and Paju. She wasn't overly made up in those and looked natural and very pretty. It seems like she only looks "plastic" when she's wearing a little more makeup.
About Chun Jung Myung looking old: No Way! He's hot and does NOT look nearly 30.

And I totally agree with you Javabeans. What's the point of seeing these scenes when we don't even care about the characters yet?

I just realized the wait for this show and all the other amazing ones coming out is going to be a lot longer for me. I'm going to India next month and won't be back 'til June! WHY?!

"She’s like a Dakota Fanning more than a Miley Cyrus"
I think you should change Dakota Fanning with Saoirse Ronan, JB. I hardly acknowledge Dakota Fanning as one of the talented raising young stars anymore since her disaster role in New Moon.

anyway, back to the topic. The MV looks fine, well not awfully good but it's pretty acceptable. I love the song nonetheless, Yesung's voice is awesome. But I also have to agree with some of you guys here, that Seo Woo's looks too plastic. Idk man, it seems that every single thing from her face are quite scary and bothering (no offense, just conveying my opinion).
MGY, CJM, and the infamous Taec himself are looking fine though. Don't understand, why the hell lots of people here despise Idols that much. Maybe because of their hardcore fans? Iono... ah well. Looking forward to this drama even more.
I won't even bother to choose between those three upcoming midweek dramas, bcoz I'll be watching all of them :D

While people are having harsh remarks to Taecyon even though the drama ain't airing yet what I said about Moon Geun Young, Seo Woo and Chun Jung Myung are just the plain truth.

MGY's Painter of the Wind averaged only 13%. It was so hyped as MGY's comeback after having hit movies when she was a teenager.
SW's Tamna averaged 5.7%, Paju had less than 150k admissions. Need I say more?
CJM being known more as an actor? Well it's 6 years after his debut he received that "New Actor" award and 4 years have passed, so minus 2 years in his army. Hmm... Yeah right. I should've compared him with Lee Dong Gun still he's no match.

Whatever so called "critical-acclaim" they might achieved still they're popularity ain't enough for the drama to succeed especially with Personal Taste having the rising actor Lee Min Ho and of course the A-list actress herself Son Ye Jin. Prosecutor Princess might seem the weaker of the 3 dramas but Kim So Yeon(recently won popularity award, and critics said she's much better than KTH who won excellence) is just fresh from hit series IRIS so it must not be taken lightly. And why in the world they will cast and idol with no acting experience here if not for the ratings? If MGY is still that popular like in her teens, and if they(critically-acclaimed actor and actresses) are popular enough why did the PD didn't have faith in her/them and casted a more experienced actor for the 2nd lead?

Required fields are marked *

Oh goodness. When did I say anything negative about Taecyeon?

Is Taec popular? Sure. But by m's argument above, then should EVERY drama that casts any idol star then be considered desperate for popularity? Personal Taste has Im Seulong. Casting an untried idol in a drama is OF COURSE a bid for increased attention. It doesn't mean, however, that the drama is gasping for air without that idol. Everything's a cumulative effort -- each successive casting adds to the overall interest. These actors are not competing against each other. That's where so many of these arguments involving idol stars run off the rails -- when it becomes an "us versus them" thing, which is rather losing sight of the big picture, isn't it?

Putting down one actor does not elevate another. Making claims about one actor's (lack of) popularity has no bearing on another actor's popularity.

@86

When did I said you're saying negative about Taec? Did I pinpoint you? Why are you acting like you're guilty. I said "people," it's a plural word meaning those people who gives harsh remarks already even though the drama ain't airing yet for them to judge the person.

What I said are just the plain truth. Numbers don't lie, see them for yourself. Yes they are popular on their own but not popular enough for the PD to have faith in them. I might be too harsh with the flop princess thingy, fading and forgettable. So forgive me for the fans of the said actor and actresses. Just a burst of emotion because I've grown tired of reading harsh remarks on idols turned actors. Again what I said are the truth I'm not inventing things like CJM's debut year and the year he won the new actor award, ratings of POTW and Tamna etc...

I don't like the video of Cinderella, why?

1. the video is dark and heavy on me - the image of the characters in the video specially Moon...somehow does'nt fit on how i picture the drama as if am watching a suspense/horror story wherein Moon is the risen killer...

2. And as i expected i felt no love chemistry between Moon and Chun - i see a brother and sister relationship instead. Moon has better chemistry with Taecyun

3. Seo Woo - is she a good actress? No idea about her acting...but from the look on said video...she's lacking in character of the scene she played particulary that car scene...what is she thinkin', LOL!

2/ If idols can bring in great ratings, why didn't Heading to the ground have great ratings? Its male lead is Yunho, who is surely more popular in Korea than Taecyeon.

All the Taecyeon fans should back off. You are being very disrespectful towards the older actors and actresses who are obviously more talented and experienced than Taecyeon.

hey all
when i was watching moon guen young in the video
she reminded me of SES Eugene in the old old music video clip of her and kangta
how she was a thief and met Kangta, bike mechanic and they fall in love then ......
how she was running and the look concept that they were achieving gave me that impression
i hope you know what i mean

now im looking forward to this cos of moon, chung and seo, moon from little bride, chung from hansel and gretel and what's up fox (could not watch it cos it got too much ahjumma) and seo, well tamra and the teaser for the housemaid makes it really looking interesting, and oh her face looks plastic, i dont know what the makeup people were doing but each time i see her in the music video, she wearing shiny stuff on her face and makes me feel like she wearing a manequin

well taec is the x factor, he doesn't have any acting chops, hes only got that nice humour of his and his jilt abs, but can he act without going to acting school
the director mentioned that he doesn't want him to go to acting school huh whats that about, so he can keep that concept of his alive
on another note, my image of 2pm has changed since JB leaving and if all those rumours are true, along with others, then i dont support 6pm anymore

but with all the shows im watching (jejoongwon, birth of rich man, chuno, obgyn) i hope i can make time for this one,

i didn't say CJM looks old, what i wrote was "CJM looks old for his female co-stars." and he is actually older than Moon and the second female lead.

when i wrote that CJM looks old to be doing this kind of drama, i meant that he looks old to be doing a drama with the young 'uns.

military service seems to have a maturing effect on K actors who have gone thru it; not only mentally/emotionally but also physically. that's why i feel CJM is too old for this kind of drama that includes young females.

the scenes of taec in the MV had me ROFLing. the acting is so bad that i couldn't stop laughing.

JB is so funny arguing with M. I wonder what M stands for? M- - - n?

Required fields are marked *

Hmm, isn't CJM's role an older oppa-figure anyway? So I assume he's not playing a teen role, which makes it perfectly fine to act alongside the girls.

Ok the whole Taec thing... I don't even follow 2PM to really know Taec. But to say that he's casted for the ratings is just so false. Idols are often casted because their company can pull strings. You know it's so. Im Yoona's drama was a flop despite SNSD's popularity. Yunho+Ara together still couldn't do anything for their drama (except maybe making it worse >_<). Jin's (JP) dramas have been poorly received despite him being a Johnny boy. My point is, drama viewers extend beyond idol fans.
Also, one mediocre project does not drag anyone's popularity down. If that's the case, Yoon Eun Hye is doomed because of her last drama. And we all know she's still the IT girl. No top star's projects are ALL stellar. Good actors often rise above their script, and viewers take notice. Take Lee Min Ho, his potential was recognized even from the horrible Boys Over Flower.

Anyway, my original thoughts were only on the MV which I didn't think was worth it to post so I didn't til now... haha, so here is it:
it must be crappily put together because they don't want any major leak to the story. if it made coherent sense, we'd be like... "oh, so that's the story!" and wouldn't be enlightened anymore once the drama is out lolz.
