The Influence’s teaser poster and preview
by javabeans
The official poster has been released for “mystery digital blockbuster” The Influence, and my main question is: Considering that it stars one of Korea’s top A-listers (Lee Byung-heon) and the nation’s “Barbie doll” (Han Chae-young), that’s the best they could do? (It looks so cheesy!)
The preview is also out (watch below) for the thriller, which seems to thrive on cryptic plotlines: Lee plays “W,” who can travel through time over 100 years, while Han is “J,” his love interest who is locked in a tank called “Jubilee.” The movie is about a promise that doesn’t change and which must be kept through the years. A shadowy group called the “DJC” figures heavily in the mystery.
The full movie will be released online in early March.

Meh, the poster sucks big time. And the plot reminds me WAY too much of 'The Fountain' by Darren Aronofsky.
It doesn't interest me the least bit. Not to mention I don't actually like Han Chae-young ( can't believe she's considered to be a barbie doll .. ).

@3: that was my first thought! Especially the last picture of HCY in that pose.
I'm actually intrigued by the plot...sci fi mixed with mystery is always a good mix.

han chae young is beautiful - i think sometimes even TOO pretty, but she's come a long way with her acting.
as for - LEE. BYUNG. HEON. he is one hotness and that look from the 2nd picture after the vid - gave me goosebumps.
@ #7 - yup, scifi-mystery is definitely an awesome combination for a movie!

my opinion : the poster looks like a magical show poster. LBH's make up ( and costume ) looks like an illusionist........the INFLUENCE sounds like his stage name..
dunno whether it's because it's dawn here / my brain isn't working at the moment, I don't understand the plot at all.. :(

My first thoughts as I stared at the poster: my, why is LBH in a vampire movie? And why HCY looks like she's filming a CF for a perfume? IDEK why I thought that.
BTW, the preview left me...cold? Indifferent? Too bad cos I was looking forward to another LBH movie

I don't like the posters and the pictures much either. It has a weird, vampiric quality to it that I'm not so sure about, and the makeup on Lee Byung-heon and Han Chae-young looks intentionally poorly done...

reminds me a bit of Tsubasa Resrvoir Chronicles (if you read japanese manga) where the guy travels in different dimensions / time to save his girl who is technically also locked in a jar-like thing (another dimension though).. but that may be just me :)

I don't know if being called Korea's Barbie Doll is a compliment at all. If I were HCY, and I'm really serious about my craft, I'd try my darnedest to get rid of that tag. The question is- is she serious about her craft? Because imo her acting hasn't changed/improved at all over the years. She's pretty, yes, but that's just about it with her. What you see is all you'll get.
LBH doesn't look good in the 2nd pic. He looks scary...

I laughed aloud when they said "Influence" at the end of the trailer. Changed from Korean accents to American...wow. Anyways, this seems rather..iffy. The poster looks like a mixture of perfume advertisement with second rate movie mixed together. Han Chae Young looks gorgeous, though.

ehhh on the fence about the movie
a little sad, but did anyone else notice that there's a "kim tae woo" credited on the poster? for some reason, my mind suddenly flew to OMG G.O.D's KIM TAE WOO IS IN A MOVIE :D

@ 27 suppielee -
It's Kim Tae Woo the actor. Not the singer. Along with Jo Jae Hyun and Jun No Min.. all of them in the same movie.

Han Chae Young is looking better than ever, not too keen on LBH, though I don't doubt him as an actor.
Somehow this film looks more HKfilm than Kfilm, like something Tony Leung would star in...

well, it was a long time for me not to drop a line, but I have to admit that I almost religiously keep following JB and dramabeanies :-)
I was just wondering- LBH didn't have time for IRIS sequel, but he had some for this movie? When was it shot? Besides, am I the only one who thinks that the music in the clip sounds IRIS-like?
Something almost out of context- I watched IRIS and thought that it was a great production, but it left me with no food for thought, so to say. Amazing,,, I appreciate LBH as an actor, but even he didn't make IRIS more memorable for me.

---
The producers of IRIS had (tentatively) planned to start IRIS 2 filming around May this year. As of now the original 2009 series is going to be aired in Japan this March. If it's going to be like the 10-month extensive filming for the first season plus all the location shooting, the filming for IRIS 2 may take up till end of 2010. LBH did not sign up for IRIS 2 because he's already under contract to do GI Joe 2 which starts filming in August.
The filming of 'The Influence' was done in January (about 11 days of filming if I'm not mistaken). Now he's currently filming another movie 'I Saw the Devil' for maybe.. a May release.
A lot of people are hoping for him to be in IRIS 2 even those who doesn't feel for the series, I thought it's great that he opted out of IRIS 2. One drama series is enough.. it took so much out of him.. let the actor do more movies instead, in Korea or otherwise. Then come back for a different kind of (a better) drama later on.

Wow. I'd have to say the poster looks pretty bad. It makes me think the film itself is going to be cheesy and low budget. After watching the trailer my suspicions may be confirmed.
@ 25 Present
I agree with you. As pretty as Han Chae Young is, it seems like that's all there is to her, just a pretty face. She is a decent enough actress, but many of the roles she chooses are generic and/or ones that simply require her to just be pretty (i.e., Boys Before Flowers). But who knows, maybe she'll surprise us in "A Man Called God".

I agree with one of the comments above. Han Chae Young does look like the mysterious female in DongBangShinKi's MV for Mirotic. Lol..
Bad poster. And I really don't like HCY's acting. Though I'll still give her the benefit of the doubt.

This film seems like a clash between a Jennifer Lopez film called The Cell and a Tom Hanks film called The Da Vinci Code.
Sad, that side profile of Han Chae-young above looks as though she's been slacking off on her beauty treatments to her upper lip. She's still pretty.

Rubie,
You have a good point. He did a great job in IRIS but personally even though I'd love for him to reprise his Hyun-jun role, I would prefer to see him in a movie - Korean or otherwise. The man is more suited for movies.
Come back with a different (better) drama? The Koreans are falling over themselves -post-IRIS success fever, they need a while to come back to earth and go back to the drawing board to come up with a good story / plot

Any movie with LBH in it will surely be great. That is how I love him as an actor. Again, hope this gets shown internationally. :)
