Drinking interview with Lee Da-hae (Part 2)
by javabeans
And here’s the continuation of the drinking interview with actress Lee Da-hae. (You can read Part 1 here)…
Rumors of plastic surgery seemed to incite anti-fans.
At this question, Lee Da-hae immediately pushes on her nose to make a “pig-nose.” It’s a gesture that shows her feeling of being wronged and also asserts her innocence.
“Actually, I haven’t had excessive work done as people think. [Laughs] Do you want me to show you my childhood pictures?”
A week later, her manager sent me “certified photos.” They are of her as a baby and in grade school in a children’s musical choir group.
Then what are those pictures floating around on the Internet?
“Ah, I’ve seen those. It’s from the 2001 Miss Chunhyang pageant. I was in my second year of high school then. I was the youngest of the contestants, and I had a lot of baby fat. The shots came out kind of strangely. [Laughs]”
You’ve also had a lot of scandals.
(“Scandals” refers to gossip regarding one’s romantic affiliations.)“I think you’re talking about the incident with Kang Ji-hwan not long ago. That was really a coincidence. I was in Thailand with friends on vacation, and I met oppa there by chance. We were glad to see each other, and since we were scheduled to return to Korea within a day of each other, we deliberately took the same flight home. People misunderstood when they saw us returning together. They took it too simply.”
What about with Lee Dong-wook?
“We really became close after My Girl. He’s a close oppa to me, and I met him the day before he enlisted for military service. We exchange text messages now, too. Back in the days of My Girl, netizens grabbed onto photos of us wearing similar hats, accessories, and using similar phones and that caused a misunderstanding. There were photos of Dong-wook in sponsored clothes and me in photo shoots that were different, but comparing them later I thought it was pretty interesting.”
Then what is your ideal type like?
“Earlier this year, there was an “ideal type world cup” on KBS’s Sweet Night and Daniel Henney was picked as the top selection. That’s true for me too. I’ve thought of making an international marriage, too. I like men who are gentle and understanding. However, I also tend to feel disappointment strongly so once I think it won’t work, I turn away for good.”
What kinds of things hurt your feelings?
“Lies, not keeping promises, someone who’s different at the start and at the end, and mama’s boys.”
I hear you have a connection with Jang Dong-gun.
“Yes, we live in the same apartment in Nonhyundong. We’re friendly neighbors.”
You’re quite good at English.
“I lived in Sydney, Australia, from sixth grade through my last year of high school. I went to Burwood High School.”
That’s why your accent is almost like a native’s.
“It’s not quite that level. Lately I’ve forgotten a lot of my English, so I’m studying again.”
In what way and how much do you study?
“I study twice a week, two hours each time, with a private teacher. I’m also interested in Chinese.”
How good is your Chinese?
“I can get by in daily life? I can manage with general communication.”
You’re ready to try your hand and Hollywood or Chinese markets.
“I think I’ll be going to China soon for a drama, and I think I’ll have an opportunity in the U.S. too.”
From February 17 to 20, Lee Da-hae headed to L.A. as the only Asian actor invited to meet with major studio Warner Bros. It was a launching party for Pucca, a Korean brand that is extending as a global fashion presence, co-sponsored by Warner Bros. The party was attended by Warner Bros. VP Maryellen Zarakas, writer Jessica Szohr of Gossip Girl, Julia Stiles of Bourne Identiy, and others.
What other opportunities are you considering?
“I’m always studying and I write a diary in Chinese, and eventually I’m thinking of publishing teaching materials. I want to help others learn Chinese by applying the things I’ve used in my lessons.”
This hard-won interview is already at a close. Of the two bottles of makgulli we received gratis, the white bottle is nearly empty. Lee Da-hae says she’s not that strong a drinker, but cleanly finishes her last cup. A smile has spread across her face. Her expression has softened a lot from the start, and contains the confidence that she’ll be showing in the future as Chuno’s Hye-won.
Inside Lee Da-hae’s bag:
- Chanel handbag
- Chuno‘s Episode 16 script
- Makeup pouch
- Accessory ring given by her manager
- Red scarf bought for 30,000 won at a Dongdaemun store

From Un-nyun’s list that is being circulated online:
- Because of Un-nyun, Dae-gil’s family was destroyed.
- Because of Un-nyun, Song Tae-ha’s teacher died
- Because of Un-nyun, her brother suffers greatly
- Because of Un-nyun, Danny Ahn is stabbed
- Because of Un-nyun, the old rural man’s shed is destroyed
- Because of Un-nyun, the Buddhist monk cannot enter nirvana
- Because of Un-nyun’s blurred scenes, viewers are overcome with frustration

- Because of Un-nyun, we see the start of her seduction

the high school she went to is a five minute drive from my place. <3
i don't mind the plastic surgery - everybody gets it in korea, it's such a social norm. i'm not a fan of it, but i mean, in an industry when your face is always on screen, people are going to get critical. you just can't win with fans - if you look ugly, they'll complain. if you look too pretty, they'll complain. so you can't blame her for it.
i do think the interview was a bit reserved, but i am such a LDW/LDH shipper i liked it. xD

Lee Da Hae and all other show biz & public figures are entitled to have some privacy.
Give them that dignity if you are dignified enough to be a human being.
I don't understand the mentality of some obsessed minds who wants to magnify someones face. If she's pretty she must have mad herself pretty with surgery.
Facial features changes as age progresses. Look at yourself in the mirror or your own photos. Are they the same year after year.
Some people who want to disfigure some pretty faces with their put downs are miserable pathetic people.
LEE Da Hae is very pretty and no put down can take that away from her. She's pretty & talented. I wonder if you who wants to disfigure her with your put down has any beauty in you...maybe not because beauty also comes from within... you don't have that god given gift either. Your misery is your asset.

It's so damn irritating that a lot of people complain because of Lee Da-Hae's character in Chuno. If you don't like what you're seeing then don't watch the show. Why blame the character and even worse blame the person portraying it? I think if you're not satisfied with a particular character, blame the people who wrote the script. It's not Lee Da-Hae's fault if they don't like the character of Un-nyun because she's just giving the audience what the script asks her to do. Based on what I read in the article, those who complain are narrow-minded people because it seems they don't understand that Lee Da-Hae and Un-nyun are two different people.

I'm just so curious how she have earned so many anti fans out there that they even take time to read stuff about her and say mean things after......I mean if they don't like her shouldn't they avoid reading or watching anything that has any relation with her? Yet people still make time and effort to read and write some mean comments and unnecessary ones to boot.......She is an amazing actress.....if she had anything done, so what, it's not your face that she had it done but hers......her acting.....though some of her characteristics as Hye Won are too much I think that was what the director and writers wanted for that series. It's not her fault if that was what was asked of her.......I am glad that the staff and production and her colleagues have supported her all the way and never let her feel left out.......I am glad that she has friends and supporters that love her so much.....she is talented, beautiful and loved by more people than those who don't like or love her.......they can just go suck on a lemon for all I care.......to all her ANTIS JEALOUS MUCH B!TCHE$!!!!!!

It's kind of funny how people get all of this from reading this interview, and not actually hearing it or seeing it.
Makes me wonder if we all read things differently? Perhaps, so.
Frankly, I thought her character was fine. Modern people are into feminism, and so when a character like hye won comes along, we tend to drift away from it, cause it's so old school and "dull." We're so bought into the "tough" "cute" and "strong" girl that we look down upon the ones who appear the way hye won is.
I suggest people not take things to heart. It is but a movie, and lee da hae is human you know... :P

i love this girl, but i think it's really obvious that she did massive plastic surgery. it irritates me to see her lying through her nose. it doesn't really matter if she did plastic surgery(she definitely did), but being frank about it will surely win my admiration.

I'm a fan of LDH but her character in Chuno just pissed the crap out of me. I agree with most of what's written on that list except the Buddhist part, that's just hilarious and unlikely. And I don't agree with those who are putting the blame entirely on the writers for the poorly created character (Un-Nyun). Yes, it's their fault for making such a bullshitting character but once an actor/actress takes on the character, they are equally responsible for the role. As an actress, she could have modified her character a little and made use of her "positive" personality traits, such as her gentleness. Instead, I was annoyed each time she came on the screen. I've seen LDH act way better (Green Rose, My Girl, Robbers etc) so Chuno was definitely a disappointment for me.

^Ditto. I would have liked to see more than just a one-dimensional character. After watching My Girl, I really expected her to up the ante but she has disappointed me in the subsequent projects thus far.
As far as the interview goes, she dodged a lot of questions. I would have liked some more direct answers but oh well. The whole interview was just really weird.

"Btw I heard that plastic surgery is so good nowadays that you can do the pig nose thing even with a fake nose. So much for proving that its natural!"
Er NO...I know someone who is experienced in ps and did it recently too and she confirmed that you can't do a pig nose

Lol. Anyone who says she can't act has obviously not watches "my girl". IDC if she had work done, alot of people have. I bet some of your moms and sisters did.
Lol, after watching her in "my girl", it's been hard for me to like any other heroine.
