Youthful cast takes over daily drama Fine Windy Day
by javabeans
Kim So-eun, Seo Hyo-rim
Daily dramas generally bring in stable ratings and have their loyal audiences, but they’re not usually shows that center around — or get buzz for — their hot young casts. However, KBS’s upcoming daily Fine Windy Day [바람 불어 좋은날] is attracting notice for its youthful cast more than its veterans, such as Kim So-eun, who is taking one of the lead roles. Rising star Seo Hyo-rim plays another of the leads.
Kim’s character takes the drama’s central story, as a 19-year-old young woman who refuses to give up her dream of becoming a top illustrator. Because she grew up poor (and is still struggling), she’s extremely frugal, and maintains an optimistic outlook on things. However, her hot temper flares when witnessing injustice.
Kim So-eun said, “I’ve played a lot of lively characters so far, but this time she’s also realistic and tough. You’ll see another side to Kim So-eun, and you can look forward to the love triangle with the two men. It’s tough physically, but I’m very happy filming every day.”
Her character sells merchandise out of a streetside stall, and one day happens upon the ill-fortune to encounter an irascible man who is the design leader for a large company. Naturally, this unfolds into a love triangle between them and her hometown oppa, a “Daddy Long Legs” type who looks after her.
Jin Yi-han will play the design team leader, who has graduated from a top university and has a successful career, but has a painful past experience with love and is currently raising a young son on his own. Lee Sung-min is Jin Yi-han’s first love, the only daughter to a chaebol of a food company, who moved to the States for an arranged marriage. Six years later, she returns to Korea as a divorcee to reconnect with her first love. However, by now he’s linked with Kim So-eun.
Seo Hyo-rim‘s role is of a materialistic young woman with a princess complex who models for an internet shopping mall. Kang Ji-sub plays the only son of a businessman.
Jin Yi-han, Kang Ji-sub, Lee Sung-min
Jin Yi-han is an actor I’ve had on my radar for a while, who started out in musicals and made the jump to television (along with his buddy Kang Ji-hwan). He hasn’t really had his big break yet, and this may be his opportunity to leap from supporting to leading roles. He wasn’t so memorable as a sorta-villain in Who Are You (I blame the writing), but was better in the 2007 mania drama Conspiracy in the Court, although mainstream audiences may know him best from the drama Golden Age of My Life.
Seo Hyo-rim has had supporting roles in shows like Insoon Is Pretty, The World They Live In and Job Well Done. Known for her bubbly, bright charm, she has become a frequent face in CFs, and is also coming due (in my opinion) for her breakthrough role.
Lee Sung-min is a young CF model who became widely recognized through the family sitcom Tae-hee, Hye-gyo, Ji-hyun, which she followed with weekend drama Creating Destiny. And 29-year-old Kang Ji-sub’s previous roles include Women in the Sun and last year’s SBS’s series Two Wives.
Also cast are Lee Hyun-jin (Boy Meets Boy, Assorted Gems) Jung Da-young (Unstoppable Wedding), and drama veterans Na Young-hee, Kim Mi-sook and Na Mun-hee. Fine Windy Day will replace Everybody Cha Cha Cha in early February.
I don’t watch daily dramas, probably for the same reason that they’re popular — they tend to be the domain of the Korean ajumma, with their large casts and long-running plots, usually centered around extended families. But as Choi Jin-shil once said, the best advice to take as a young actor is to do daily dramas — the sheer amount of constant work you encounter in a daily is great acting training, in contrast to doing, say, one film every two years. I’ll check a few episodes out and see if the story catches my interest.

Really, wow... what a cast it boasts. I'm looking forward to this, even though it IS probably going to waste away my time like none other - but I really like Kim Soeun... even though the storyline and the setups right now are pretty cliche, but what can you expect out of a daily drama?
When I was reading Kim Soeun's character profile, it kept running through my head how many times this character had already appeared in some Korean drama before... LOL.
Oh, and Lee Hyunjin is in this too? Interesting - lately I got myself caught up in Kimchi Cheese Smile and I really really like him in there, LOL.

Is it me or does Kang Ji Sub really look like he can pass off as Kim Kang Woo's brother?
“I’ve played a lot of lively characters so far, but this time she’s also realistic and tough. You’ll see another side to Kim So-eun,"
Actually this character doesn't seem that new as Jung Yoo Jin in MWCGM and Ga Eul were both tough girls that were pretty realistic...
I'm not too excited on this drama, and might not be watching it (maybe in the future when I need a K-drama to refuel on my K-drama addiction engine. Must. Watch. SOMETHING!) but if the reviews are positive, I might just try.

I'm looking forward to this drama! KSE's character sounds a lot like Geum Jandi (poor, hardworking, maintains upbeat attitude, has 2 hot guys after her...etc.) but let's hope that it will be a better portrayal of this heroine prototype.
My only complaint: no English subbing group would touch daily dramas! So sad...

Wow, what a hot looking cast!! I think Lee Hyunjin is such a heartthrob, but he's so dull as Sanho in Jewel Bibimbap. I'm hoping his role here would be better.

daily dramas are definitely long but they aren't always bad. I am currently watching "Don't Hesitate" which is so good. It does get draggy but still interesting. I might check this out because I like the cast.

Omo, omo, deeta, lately I am like in love with Lee Hyunjin's character in Kimchi Cheese Smile. Well, and him as an actor, too. LOL. I think he has really nice, expressive eyes, but it's a pity he's always in a stupid daily drama, which means that it's usually like over 100 episodes long and is a total time commitment for me to watch...

Aww, I was hoping for Kim So Eun to do a project with Kim Bum or Lee Min Ho again. But I love Kim So Eun, and I am happy that she is finally getting her big break.
If the story catches on, I might give it a try. But like Gems (post 7) said- no english subbing group would touch a daily drama, and the length of these dramas are also way too long--so I don't think that I can watch it.

BTW, is Conspiracy in the Court worth watching?

...I would love to watch this daily drama because Lee Hyun Jin & Jin Yi Han are minor crushes of mine from their supporting roles in Family Honor & Who Are You...but I doubt if Viikii, or other drama-websites would pick it up & sub a daily drama!!!
,,,take the case(s) of MBC dramas...most especially Assorted Gems, Creating Destiny & Pasta... w/c have been disabled on Viikii & other sites due to copyright issues... I've been SOOO frustrated these past 3 weeks ...for not being able to watch my favorite Assorted Gems....can somebody out there recommend an alternate website where I can watch this GEM of a drama???? Please...I'm getting desperate here!!! I've only watched until ep.34 & they're on to ep.40 already!!!

I've missed Jin Yi-han, but in a daily? Though, the cast sounds pretty solid so I guess it's really going to depend on the writing. I will probably give the first couple of episodes a try.
@ Sere
Highly highly recommend Conspiracy in the Court. Probably one of the best produced saeguks I've seen. The acting, directing, cinematography, the music---everything is really well done. And if you like Chuno so far, CitC is a great watch because it's by the same director and some of the cast from CitC is in Chuno. If you want to read other opinions on it I think it has been discussed a lot on OT#114 thru OT #117, but it's been recommended on earlier OTs as well.
Edit: Here's the link to Thundie's review

I know Mister X has done a review too...it's somewhere on Twitch I think

Omgah, Lee Hyun Jin! *shallow fangirl moment* He's pretty much been wasted in Assorted Gems so far, so hopefully he gets a more interesting role here. I absolutely loved him in Family's Honor and his acting wasn't half bad.
@ 30 deannadsc
It's rare that a daily drama would be so skewed towards a younger audience. Considering Kim So Eun's popularity after BOF, perhaps there'd be enough hype around it for subs to be produced? The wonderful people over at Viikii are always game for these longer dramas, actually. Don't Hesitate is getting subbed at light speed! So if Viikii doesn't go license crazy all over it too soon, who knows, we might see subs yet :D

"she grew up poor ... maintains an optimistic outlook... hot temper flares when witnessing injustice..." - is there some kind of manual on how to write korean dramas that everyone works from?
"you can look forward to the love triangle with the two men. It’s tough physically" - ha ha! if i were to add my own unfortunate edit.
i do find Seo Hyo-rim quite charming...

Haha, how cliche but I like So Eun enough to end up watching this. The guys don't exactly hurt my eyes either. ;)
Daily dramas can be addicting, in an embarrassing, guilty pleasure kind of way. I mean, I liked You are my destiny --- riight up until it bellyflopped towards the end (starts singing in nasal little girl voice ... ''love you, love you, i love you..!'').

I'm actually excited about this one. There hasn't been any good daily dramas this past 2 years, since "I Hate You But It's Fine." When I heard that Kim So Eun would tailgate this drama, I was ecstatic because she's the current darling of cuteness right now. I'm hoping for Kang Ji Sub and Kim So Eun love line here. The most memorable character I remember of Kang Ji Sub was from the drama "Blissful Woman." He showed his singing side in that drama, which to my surprise, he excels at.

I agree that daily dramas do force one to train as an actor. most of the ppl who come out from daily or weekend dramas come out with more experience under their belt. like EBDCC...i think Jo An improves over time. (i didn't like her at first, but she grows)
