SBS’s new midweek drama OB-GYN
by javabeans
SBS is a couple weeks from airing its new Wednesday-Thursday drama OB-GYN [산부인과 여의사], starring Jang Seo-hee, the recent Daesang winner for her role in Wife’s Temptation.
I hadn’t even known that Song Joong-ki was cast in this, which is news that has me conflicted; I love him and find him adorable, but I have no great desire to watch this drama, which takes the timeslot over from Will It Snow For Christmas against Chuno and The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry. He takes a supporting role here as a second-year resident.
Jang Seo-hee plays a talented ob-gyn (obstetrics and gynecology doctor); she has a romantic plotline with two younger men: one is her friend, played by Seo Ji-seok (Pure 19), and the other is a pediatrician at the same hospital, played by Go Ju-won (Infamous Chil Princesses).
Song Joong-ki’s character shows a different personality than he’s shown previously. For instance, compared to the calm, mature “Ji-yong” role in Will It Snow For Christmas, which gets him regularly recognized now, his OB-GYN character is scatterbrained: “Actually, Kyung-woo [in OB/GYN] is more similar to my real personality than Ji-yong was.”
Directing is PD Lee Hyun-jik of SBS dramas Tazza and Lobbyist, and writing is Choi Hee-ra, who appears to have no former credits. (So… I’m not exactly hopping up and down in excitement.) OB-GYN premieres on February 3.

LOL. Is SJK even old enough to be a real first-year resident? He's a youngster!
I'm not particularly interested in this.. I've never liked medical dramas. :x

Song Joong-ki -- another '85er -- ooh, that was a good year. ^^ But too young to be a resident unless the korean educational system speeds that up bigtime. OTOH, how nice for babies to have SJK be the first face they see in the world. ^^ I loved him in the 2008 weekend drama My Precious Child.
I think there have been some very good Korean medical dramas: White Tower, Surgeon Bong Dal-hee, Daejangeum :)

I probably won't watch this drama, but I love Song Joong-ki too. He has a face like a daisy; all you have to do is look at him and you're smiling, even when he looks as serious as he does in these pics. He is adorable and I always get such a happy vibe from him, he's just so chill!

ah crap... now I have to watch this...
I've only seen one Korean medical drama so far (the one with Cha Tae Hyun) and the characters in it were quite annoying even though I do like CTH... nothing beats Egawa Ryosuke's Emergency Room (don't know if I got the English title right).
maybe I'll just fast forward to the parts with Song Joong Ki in it...
Speaking of medical dramas, House is still one of the best there is.

I'm afraid I'll have to watch this drama whether I like it or not 'cos of Song Joong-ki.
Korean medical dramas aren't that bad people, come on! I hopelessly fell for Jisub's doctor character Lee Cho In in Cain & Abel.

I was a huge fan of Temptation of Wife so it'll be good to see Jang Seo Hee on TV once again and this time she plays an intelligent doctor who gets involved with not 1 but 2 younger men! Go Goo Eun Jae! hehe.. The other casts sounds good too so I'll probably watch it - hope they don't show too many gross scenes though........ :)

Alright. This drama is HANDS DOWN the best medical drama ever.
I'm pretty much a picky drama watcher but seriously, I fell in love with all the characters in this drama. (The hot pediatrician is sorta kinda amazing. :D<3)
Anyway, WATCH THIS NOWWWW if you are reading this. Unless you have a weak stomach of course.
WATCH IT! 5 stars drama!

Totally agree. The pacing of the narrative, the character development, the writing, all fabulous. The only criticisms I have are that at times the pathos was just a bit too overwhelming, but that only happened rarely, and I just did not understand the episode with the baby with Down Syndrome. There may have been some cultural connotations that I just wasn't aware of. Other than that, everything was great, and I smiled every time Song Joong Ki came onscreen. He and Lee Young Eun are so cute together.
And the pediatrician?! So dreamy. Gah, why do these dramas keep on creating PERFECT men? Why?

Yay! I'm glad some other people feel the same way about this drama. I'm only on episode 7, and the only negative I can see are Dr. Suh's interactions w/ her mother. Other than that, it's complete win. :)

Yep Yep...I saw GH2 and I hated it and I lost interest in New Heart. OB/GYN has a interesting plot but I like that the medical stories don't take a back seat to the characters lives it's really well made and intriguing.

I didn't know Kdramas could entrap that potently. I've been reticent to watch as I can only cope with one thing at a time, I either watch and listen or I read. Listening is moot as my languages don't hold a likeness to korean, spanish, english, portuguese, italian a little french...so; I tend to tire after a few minutes of rewinding to understand the images; apart from the fact that scatologic jokes that koreans are so fond of (I've yet to see a comedy where the girl doesn't fart or spit whatever is being chewed on whoever is sitting in front)
But OB/Gyn Doctors has me enraptured watching. My god! the amount of tears I shed in ep4. Funny how they can convey so much emotion for a culture that barely touches... that paedriatric doctor is simply divine- I think I've fallen in love! =0) I've yet to come to terms with names, specially as I can't for the life of me hear them, so I've no notion whatsoever as to how you pronounce them <3 they speak way to fast.

I've watched enough dramas to know everyone who appeared in this drama. The story is well written and nothing is stretched out dramatically. Its not all serious, nor full of drama besides the family situations in each story but there is a good mixture. Its not messy like Grey's and its not so serious like House (although I love house). I really like it. I was iffy when it first came out but my mom and aunt liked it so I decided to download it and watch it with my mom (as she was only able to see the first episode and it wasn't dubbed in Viet yet).
I also like that they did not have Jang Seo Hee's character (not sure how to translate this to English) but she isn't a weak character and had no lingering feelings with the man who had an affair with her. She knew when to call it quits and stuck with it. :) I really recommend it and the graphics are quite real and not cheap looking like when they do the operations and pull out the baby, etc. I really am enjoying it (almost done with this series but not yet).

I guess we have different opinions. I love medical dramas and I watch both J-dramas and K-dramas, however this was one medical drama i couldn't stand.
There was some good medical cases, but i find the personal story (about the characters) a little bland and boring.
I watched up till episode 9 and didn't continue.
