Another official ICOMYM announcement:

By popular demand, Choi Siwon is now the official ICOMYM Cabana Boy. But no getting handsy, ladies...he's a very chaste boy. I will, of course, provide him with Presidential Protection from sexual harassment. :-D

Dragon Sabre 2009 - early reviews are its pretty awful, on par with ZJZ's adaptations. Sometimes I wonder why I bother to read anymore news with respect to ZJZ adaptations, it makes me want to headdesk myself until I bleed from every orifice.

Apparently, ZJZ offered the role of Zhang Wu-ji to....you guessed it.....Huang Xiao-ming, first! Yup, only this time, HXM wised up and said "hey, it appears I may not be the right actor for this role." No shit sherlock! So in ZJZ's mind, Yang Guo, Wei Xiao-bao AND Zhang Wu-ji are all exactly the same performance criteria. No wonder his adaptations drive me batty.

Silly Rabbit! He's off training to become the First Gentleman, of course! He still has that pesky MS to deal with, after all.

What's that you say? I'm already married?

Pfffttt. Details. 8)

Also, Jang Hyuk is Head of Security. :-D

How silly of me... First Gentleman - naturally :)

Already married? Minor obstacle ;)

And Jang Hyuk as Head of Security sounds about right.

Wait! I have a question... If someone (say Jang Hyuk) is not in my ICOMYM manrem (because he's older than me, not cuz i'm not crushin')... then um.. is he still Head of Security to me? Or are these positions flexible ?? just wondering ;)

a few random asides:

1. The over-under on whether one or both of the main leads in WISFC will die is currently hovering at 6-4, for will die, but bonus points for dying together. I really want a happy ending, no snark. The pain quotient is already higher than dying, based on the plot I have read (I stopped watching at episode 8, but am too masochistic and love seeing stills of Go Soo that I read JB's wonderful recaps).

2. WTH is wrong with AC - I can vouch that I've never seen this in a TW drama, ever! - but in the first 3 minutes of episode 17, they show Xiao-le getting out of the bath, and then a full body naked baby scene where he puts on his underwear and they blur out his baby bits! What's wrong with you, PD, that this was even conceived much less executed! The child is 5 years old, for crissakes! No one, other than his own mom and dad, should see this child naked. I was so disturbed, is an understatement.

3. Wish Upon a Star is still very engaging, I'm not breathlessly enthralled, but its got such a big-hearted charm that I just like spending time with the characters in this drama. Nothing too groundbreaking, and I'm pretty weirded out since I really had a negative opinion of Choi Jung-won, but she's hardworking and charming, I like her a lot here, my eyes keep wandering to her when she's in a scene, kudos to her for showing KotW wasn't all her doing.

A happy Hello from HKG:
My Mom has been discharged from the hospital since the 25th. The bill was less than I thought(imagine a high Zip code digits)since the surgeon (a old colleage of my mother) waived the doctor's fee...whew!!! Anyway, my Mom is home now, trying to rebuild her strength. My 3rd sister also came yesterday, so the two L** sisters went SHOPPING...WHOO HOO...before you ladies start to get excited, I only bought stuff for the 2 lil cingdoc's. I'm one of the those rare breed- I HATE shopping. Not that I DON'T shop, but I only go when I have to. Twice a year, I will go to Nordstrom and Ann Taylor and buy my work clothes ( what I call "presentable" clothes), the rest of the time, I'm wearing "Mommy's clothes"- t shirts and jeans.
@langdon,
LOL ...I think you made me owed a certain Internet cafe in HKG a new computer screen....I spat my OJ out when I saw your " Godfather" horse ad....OMG...it was sooo funny.
@277 bleu
ummmm....last time I checked my PDR (Physician's Desk Reference), I couldn't find urine as the drug of choice for conjunctivitis/pink eye(neither bacterial nor viral )LOL...I hate to be the one who had to collect the sample and adminster such "miraculous" drug to the patient....ewwwww
@Samsooki
I have to totally agree with you regarding air and water. It's esp true for me right now since the air quality here in HKG sucks. I tried to run one day and couldn't stop coughing. The nurse at the hospital told me the poor air quality is due to the (un)regulated factories's pollution from the Mainland. YIKES!
As for the computer...well, with *ahem*my experience with the internet...No Comment.
#4 Dramabeans...it's as crucial for me as with air and water-CANNOT live without it
@Almond Joy
Since my family is from the SE Asia (Burma), we all LOVE anything coconut , be it candies, itself as a fruit, the drink and of course in our curries....yum. But, don't eat tooo much, it's a natural laxative ( recall Tom Hanks in Castaway)....everything in moderation.
@Office moochers
There's always jerks like that. For me, it's almost a discrimination. "Since you're the Doctor, you should pay for lunch "look from the staff (except my own secretary, who knows me well). Like them, I, too, have bills to pay!!!! My Hubby always says that's what I get since I'm always "chummy" with the staff; he escapes such "wrath" since he "stays in the back office" :(
gotta go before the cafe staff give me the "moocher who just bought the quiche and OJ but stayed at the computer for over an hour" dirty look... he he
Miss you all as always, see you all in OT 120....and THANK YOU for all the well wishes for my Mom from all of you here in OT family ;)
@wonder who I'm going to be this time....here I go, Internet God...

I was totally shocked that they showed that and then blurred it out. Why show it at all? Can't you like... pan above the navel?! I don't get it... But after that was the most adorable Xiao Le scene. I love his interactions with Tuo Ye.... <3

@cingdoc,

yay! that's good news! :) tc and have fun in HKG. Yeah the air quality there is horrible, they actually count how many days they see the blue sky.. It's both the pollution fr mainland and the airport, so towards the NW side, it's even more suffocating. I rem going to the big buddha @ Lantau Island and it used to be a great class outing for kids to be in touch with the wilderness...but now it's more in touch with fierce smog. *sigh*

@twin,

gosh I can't believe I'm saying this but I do think HXM may make a decent ZMJ :X this one is painful to watch. that *pretty* face ZZR is a newbie, she is Crystal Liu's classmate at 'drama school' and she's going to play the pretty Dai Qiao in 3 Kingdoms *wth*.... ZJZ can stay away fr any LC in my book, his sole focus is on pretty set pieces (that including the actresses)...maybe that's exactly why LC liked him?!?! o_O I do have to say sometimes he lucked out on Yang Mi as Guo Xiang, a pretty face who can act and I actually dun mind Crystal Liu as XNL (she really is pretty and wooden enough), most often though his cast seems the lowest of his priorities.

'I swear, I didn’t start it.' *muahahahahahahhahahahaha* OT understatement of the wk ?!

A Children’s Story: The Bear And The Case Of The Mysterious Balloons

Once there was a bear with an extreme flatulence problem. Everywhere he went, he would release a toxic gas with dire results - plants would wilt, children would faint, and other animals would keep at least a 1,000-meter distance. He was constantly being shunned, which saddened him greatly. :(

After watching kdramas, the bear discovered that if he was the first to point fingers at those around him, blaming them for the farts...then, about 97% of the time, he could get away with it. This figure, however, gradually decreased over time...whether this was because he starting hanging around smarter people or just the law of diminishing returns...no one knows...

The bear decided he needed to find another solution. He had heard of a charlatan monk living alone in the mountains, so he went to visit the monk. There, the monk gave him some advice - "Eat a dozen bars of Almond Joy everyday, and your problem will be solved." What perfect luck! That was the bear's favorite food...only he'd never thought about eating so many at once.

After about a month of doing this, the bear noticed something very strange happening...these were no ordinary candy bars. They were MAGIC! His flatulence didn't cease, but the gas bubbles did take on a new form - brightly colored balloons. Wow, this would make him famous!

So, he took his newly-found skills to all the television stations, but only one, SBS, thought he was worth hiring. For several years, he had a nice cushy job...until netizens complained about watching this bear fart every night on network TV, saying it was indecent and a bad influence on their children (though they didn't bother with the TV-15 warning. pfft)....and it's not like they could blur out his parts for every drama like they do for cigarettes and knives.

Anyhoo, the bear ended up getting fired and is now replaced by a beaver who underwent plastic surgery at Seoul's top hospital to look like the bear.

THE END.
:P

(whoa...that was all over the place...I guess I really do need some sleep... ;) )

@417 hjikomo

LOL! it's a wild ride for a Poo(h )bear! I wonder... this can't be a some type of parable, can it be? The above story somehow rings bell all over... Past midnight madness on OT goes on.

By the way, on my flight back from Japan, there were 25 Korean students who had won some sort of science awards and as a result, they are on their way to DC for visiting museums and somewhere else(can't remember, something prestigious) connecting through LA. They were such adorable and well behaved grade school and Junior high schoolers. Since we had no K speaking staff that day(we had J, Mandarin, Tagalog, Spanish speaking ones on board)I was thinking to myself Hum after watching K dramas for 3-4 years. What can I say in Korean? Sadly enough, all I could come up with was Hello(the one start with A, Anningaseyoo???( don't know how to spell the word, either). Came the dinner time. " Would you like beef or chicken?" It should be simple and it was for some older kids. But younger ones. no English(they were spread out in the back section of the cabin). So, I had to resort to good old hand gestures. Mock horns with my fingers on my head for beef and hand wings for chicken. Boy, after repeating those for a while, I was starting to get really embarrassed. Oh, I also tried the word Kogi? Gogi? for Beef. I thought I heard Yunho of DBSK mentioning it on TV. Guess my pronunciation wasn't good enough. Nobody understood the word. Sigh. Anyhow, my mission was accomplished after some extra time. Darn, simulating chicken wing movements with hands aren't exactly fun when being stared at with earnest expressions on their faces. They must have been feeling sorry for this obasan.

Great morality tale - also going in my rotation of nighttime stories for the kiddos. ;-) samsooki better behave himself lest he finds that he's starring in one thinly veiled parable after another. Would continues to amuse greatly.

@ simplesim-moni

Agreed! I know no qualms, I *adore* Sung Yuri, she's not the best actress, and sometimes stumbles even now (do not watch Swallow the Sun), but she never annoys me. I still want to off BORA.

@ twin

Also agreed, Zhang Wu-ji would have been the best of the three LC leads for Huang Xiao-ming to play, too bad he already did YG and WXB. I can see the waffling, the gentleness in HXM.

You know who I was thinking of last night, most if not all the elder actors in the last decade of LC adaptations have been okay to sub-par. I think I'm even harsher on them then I am on the young leads. These actors portray Wulin icons, the greats, the legends, the leaders, and half the time I can't remember their faces even after watching them for 40 episodes!

But my absolute fave, fave, by a long long shot, elder statesman TVB actor is Kenneth Tsang. His Eastern Eccentric Huang Yao-shi is iconic, not a single person has ever touched his portrayal. And then I remember watching him in Wanderer as Yue Bu-quen, in Duke as Chen Jing-nang, in Dragon Sabre as Xie Hsun, in Fox Volant as Tian Gue-nong, as I realized he was almost the best thing in these, as I remember each character he created so vividly, whether hating him for his evilness or adoring him for his coolness. I miss Kenneth, if he's too old now, then he's just the right age to be Dragon Sabre's 90-100-110 year old Zhang San-feng. Bring back Kenneth! (btw, ZJZ cut out the Guo Xiang scenes from the beginning of Dragon Sabre, whatever, I give up trying to figure him out).

I think for k-dramas, anytime Kim Gab-soo shows up, I get the same butterflies that I'm about to witness awesome delivered via perfect acting.

I just heard the news that Yuen Wo-ping, legendary producer wuxia choreographer extraordinaire - wants to remake the Smiling Proud Wanderer as a movie in 2010! With Takeshi Kaneshiro as Linghu Chong! [hold it, having a brain freeze here] And Zhou Xun as Ren Ying-ying. And best of all, he wants Jay Chou as Dong Fang Bubai. The last part had me laughing so hard it took me 5 minutes to get off the floor. I guess, this is after Jay Chou finishes filming The Green Hornet.

What do you think? It's not yet confirmed, but it looks like Tsui Hark's remake which was The Swordsman series of movies, with the emphasis on DFBB as the ultimate big bad.

But Takeshi? I have serious reservations about him....

o AHJUMMA SWOONING AT KIDDIES is nth inappropriate... we have a woodland massacre of farting bear messing with cute things.

me *heart* SYR as well, coz nth explain me watching 1000yrcrap and princefirstpoop or oneFday. But then she's like some white cute fluffy bunny that some pooping bear caught and ....emmmm... see the 'Charming' in it.
just the fact that Bora sang Candy Candy theme song cutely while piggybacked by a Hyun Binnie is case enough for BORA MUST DIE!!

o gosh @twin.... y o y.... i'm SAD and bothered!!!!!! What is bothering me with Chinese cinema lately is how EVERY single movie has to be epic in everything. EVERY single movie has to have a cast that is brand name and proven to be able to bring a trillion+ in box office draw. IT's to the point I can see they r just adding up the # and heck the casting. Takeshi, bless his heart is equivalent to me like KTH to the dudes. He's godly pretty and has those gorgeous sparkly smiling eyes and makes the yummiest CMs for any st girl to spazzz....but whenever he acts, he's still the smiling Takeshi, he cant bring any gravitas to his roles (though have to admit he's so darn cute eating pineapple out of the cans in a WKW)... yeah I still harbor hate fr RC and his impossibly gayglam Zuge Liang. MY head is already spinning of all the inappropriate sizzle btn his LHC and his master Yue Buqun, let alone the Lin Pinzhi and Dongfang Bubai (as if he's not homoerotic enough...) Zhou Xun... i'm kinda ok, she can act up a storm, but to me her look is most suitable for 'mistress/home wrecker' and my RYY needs an earthy amazonian earnesty while being a cool badass most of the time. She can do it, but I'm bored just with the thought of ANOTHER period/wuxia movie with her. she wont be my ideal choice, Yang Mi is perfect in the looks. I won't even begin with Jay Chow. I'll check out PandaMan though(a drama with panda looking man as superhero....), it's just too bizarre and I can't look away fr a trainwreck.

u know I'm still cyberstalking theTangren gang... and the boss is chatting today on asking Michael Miu to be a couple with Liu ShiShi in her next project... hmmmm.... in-ter-esting~ haha and a couple of us twittered/campaigned on YH as YG because the cast and crew has been leaking out incidents of regular folks mistaking him as YG ALL THE TIME, even the resto owner they frequented! and we'rein unison chanting this will be so true to LC as he wrote YG looked like YK in RoCH!! but then some partypooper has to remind us that there's already a YG who looked like his daddy....Richie Ren 'guest starred' in couple seconds of YK in ep one of his RoCH. I shuttered at the thought/visual.

hehe o me heart Kenneth Tsang (he's a Cal Bear btw)... see he's exactly y I did not particularly care for the Anthony Wong in LoCH08, yes I know Anthony may be the best actor suitable...but he played his Huang with such a cartoonish looniness... I didnt get the 'greatness' I should fr such a master. but he's in his 70s now....and I assumed retired...missed him though. I do think Leung Ka Yan did a good job as 7 Gong/Northern Beggar in LoCH08

I also love Paul Chun Pui (the head of 3 lian hui in Black and White) in supporting roles.

"o me heart Kenneth Tsang (he’s a Cal Bear btw)"

Okay, it's official, I will stop making fun of Cal or pouring on any snark. Any school that produced the legendary Kenneth Tsang, like 50 years ago!, rocks in my book. Go Bears! I *really* do miss him, in every role, he's got the gravitas and disappears into character, both smarmy, sneaky, aloof, or honorable.

I also love, love Paul Chun Pui (the head of 3 lian hui in Black and White), he shows up, and I know at least part of whatever movie/drama I am watching is bound to be good. I don't recall him in any TVB dramas in the 80's tho?

As for the 2008 Greats, my faves as hands-down, Ouyang Feng, I mean, the dude from raunchy HK comedies is suddenly one of the Greats! He was wonderful, like I said, OYF was suddenly autistic and it was so fun to watch. But the closest these guys got was Leung Ka Yan as Northern Beggar, more heft than my fave Lau Dan, but less quirky. But I loved Yi-deng, not when he's the Northern Emperor, but after he turns into a monk. But to this day, not a single pairing of Eastern Eccentric-Huang Rong father-daughter relationship captured the same genuine father-daughter love and affection that Kenneth and Barbara portrayed, that was one of *the* best parts of LoCH 1982.

Let's keep updated on whether YWP will do the Wanderer movie - I don't know if Takeshi will take it, but I'm just puzzling over the entire endeavor as it is currently mapped out. I share your opinion on Takeshi.

"Michael Miu to be a couple with Liu ShiShi in her next project" - Oh wah the frippin....like a December-March romance, you mean? Um, hells no, MM would eat our SS alive in any scene, sorry, Ariel mebbe, but not SS.

As for our loverboy being mistaken as Yang Guo - ha ha ha ha, I knew it, seriously, its got to happen. Drama gods are decreeing it in every way possible. Btw, don't you see loverboy just *nailing* the YG chip on his shoulder, insecurity, you-screw-me-once-I-hate-you-for-life, you-are-nice-to-me-so-you-are-a-good-person ethos? Unfortunately, to this day, I don't think any YG has been properly portrayed once the 16 year time lapse passes, perhaps Andy got closest. Though the 16 yr later HXM version of YG was the only part of his YG I wasn't actively pounding on the computer screen to erase him. Or maybe it was because Yang Mi was in half his scenes as my cutie patootie Guo Xiang.

Oh, and please don't mention RR, like, try not to, okay? That was like Nightmare on Elm Street level I can't wakeup from this nightmare adapations. No wonder LC banned Yang Pei Pei from making any more adaptations.

You know, Seattle-ites, I think we must be a pretty lame bunch if only Robotmatsuri's sister has yet to see binnie. Shouldn't we have fixed lunch for the entire cast and crew? Shouldn't we have found out which hotel he is in so we could hang around the lobby drinking coffee (and wandering into the mens room "by accident")? Wasn't there someone in another OT and another country who really knew how to do fangirl stalking the right way? @ isabeth, do gather the forces! :) but u know, as well known as binnieboy is, his fangirls r not the 'action' type. I mean I knew of his Vegas photoshoot but I didnt go hound.... me of all rabid fangirl lol (@ robotmatsuri: gosh if in SF chinatown though...that's awfully tempting (for me)!!) He once went to Beijing for the Let's Shine LG campaign with KTH and there's no fans at the airport...etc. He chooses to be private and he's so shy in person, not exactly 'welcoming' to greet and meet fangirls. (heresay fr gfs who did the whole fangirl stalking treatment during WW Spore filming)

FYI, binnie looks like this now...
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/7749/546eb1c817f6cfb4c917688.jpg

@twin, haha I also think the excessive use of wind machine in the 16 yrs later YG in the HXM version helped in distracting our attention away fr his 'acting'

Chun Pui was in mainly baddie roles and his career is more movie and ATV. He was in a role in a great ATV drama on 張三豐 http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%B8%B8%E4%BF%A0%E5%BC%B5%E4%B8%89%E8%B1%90 .he was Genghis Khan in RoCH 83...gosh looking down that cast list, I can still picture them as my ultimate fav casting.. ChunWong as Chow Bak Tong is still my FAV. I'm with u, the Master Yat Dang is terrific in the LoCH08

OMG, twin, Leslie Cheung was in that drama (he's so handsome)!!! I never knew it existed. And I totally forgot that Chun Pui was an ATV-actor. It was hard to find ATV dramas when I was a kid, sad.

As for Binnie!!! - squee, he needs to eat more, really, and that picture makes him look like Hu Ge's older, more sophisticated and world-weary brother.

The wind machine from RoCH 2006 needs to be auctioned off - I would buy it so that it can blow on me anytime I want to make a grand entrance, stand and ponder my lost love, or generally exist in this world. It also appears that the wind machine follows HXM as YG everywhere, its even more trusty than his sidekick the Giant Condor.

At this point, I'll call it Gusty. And Gusty performed his job very well, which was to blow so much hair around HXM that we would be itching to brush hair off his face and not realize that random facial expressions he was essaying until the scene had passed. And how much did you fall-of-your-chair laugh when HXM took off his mask and GX was all "gasp!, clasp my chest, oh lord that is one handsome man!" reaction. The scene worked for me solely as a parody of the HXM idol-reaction in mainland women. To take it seriously, would require a lobotomy.

@ hjkomo, I'm sadder about Choco getting left behind in Chuno than I realized, the sadness has set in. :-( Choco is too refined to survive in the wild.

@411 robotmatsuri
Were you making Chinese Steamed eggs(loaf)??
The way that my Mom taught me is : for every egg that I cracked, I add a eggshell-ful of water (including the salted duck eggs), and don't forget to drizzle a little bit of oil before steaming the egg loaf....if you're making something else, just ignore the above comments.
You know my Mom is getting better because she started to take me go eating...and trust me it's non stop. I have to admit it's all delish (papaya with shark fin soup, etc), but I can only eat so much....
@Samsooki
try not to get yourself in toooo deep of trouble...I will help you, but you DO know that @hjkomo and I are Cal sisters, right??

3 more days til I can return to the States....and work the next day...yikes....Miss you all....cingdoc

Hi, OK. My today's appointment is over, whew...

Cingdoc, So happy to hear you and your mom are going out eating delish stuff non-stop. Why not indulge yourself while you are there? You deserve it! Come home safely and have enough healthy snacks for your trip back home.

I see there's a nameless(yet) new ICOMYM member migrated from Kim Bum's thread. Welcome! I keep on telling myself ages don't matter in my real life with little conviction( I know it doesn't... or shouldn't ???). But here on OT, anything goes! Our Ms. president is a fabulous woman with a big heart, even let me share LMK's eyes for now. So, feel at home and enjoy. :D

*hugs* cingdoc! have a great time with your mom in HK and safe trip back, dont worry about work, it'll take care of itself!!! :) I bet your daughters r missing you madly!

@twin:
hahahahaha I'm roflamo with that mask scene and Gusty. Come to think of it, I've seen way too many HXM dramas and all of them (ok not Deer Cauldron, but who r we kidding ZJZ with this casting?!) have a “gasp!, clasp my chest, oh lord that is one handsome man!”, may it be halo-ish backlit or yup, with Gusty's honorable presence, (actually Yang Mi has another one of those with HXM, that explain my ever growing love of that little pretty actress) Come Summer's Desire, I've already indicted it into the Hall of Fame of dramas so trainwreck it's GOOD! ;)

watch this short clip for Chun Pui goodness, Vincent Zhao is a National TaiChi martial arts champion in real life, and if it's not pure awesomesauce acting on Paul Chun's part, I dunno what is:

Jay Chou. Jay Chou. I love you. To be more precise, I love your music. Well, to be absolutely precise, I love your music composition, not so much your singing. But in any case, you are a god of pop music. Why do you have to go be a manservant to some guy in green tights?
