My husband found out my onscreen name (I'm not telling you guys what it is!) on another blog (I'm not telling you the blog either, so don't even ask) which he also happens to frequent (I already told you I'm not telling you). He recognized me by my writing style and story (there is no story) and then he secretly read all my posts for months (you don't need to know for how long or how many posts he read) and then one day he was tickled by something I wrote (you don't need to know what I wrote either. ok?) and when we were in the car he proceeds to call me by my onscreen name (Didn't I tell you I'm not giving my onscreen name?).

Horrified, I was all like "are you talking to me?"
and he was all like "yes [screen name]"
and I was all like "no I'm not [screen name]. Who is that your secret girlfriend?"
and he was all like "whatever [screen name]. I know who you are. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt."
and then we drove to the restaurant in silence

But I told you all too much already!!!

I just have one question. Do you not want us to know your screen name?

:-D

@ samsooki

Cracked. Me. Up. That was like a subversive children's book. (My mind immediately goes Donnie Darko at the mention of rabbits. I'm not Tae-kyung or anything though).

What kind of stories does Ji-hoonie hear from Daddy while he's being rocked to sleep??

:-D

Your bear-rabbit-poo story (which nearly caused me a laughter-induced stroke, my 5th of the week) sounds just like the bedtime "stories" my husband tells my son.

There is the classic "Ergus and the Reindeer Poo". I prefer, you know, non-fecal matter related bedtime stories, myself. But thanks for the cautionary tale, I'll be sure not to rub my white fur in any smelly ole bear's stinky mane.

@ nycgrl

Best. Story. Ever. - because its hella funny, and the exact same thing happened to me with my other early on in my DB days. I think he thought I was engaging in illicit chats, making new "friends" or doing any variety of non-sanctioned behavior for a married woman. A few OTs, and he no longer bothers to read it (and I leave it open on my computer for him). He's bored senseless and rather surf wikipedia.

Oh, by the by, can I buy you a drink and you reveal the entire story to me. :-) Curious minds like mine is dying to know.

@503 langdon813 -

i subvert all children's stories. :D

My favorite stories to recite to Ji Hoonie at night after a long evening of open thread, recapping, and/or translating -

Mary had a little lamb chop for dinner,
The Wolf Who Was Denied Charity by Three Greedy Pigs,
The Princess and the defective Serta Mattress by Vera Wang,
How Clifford The Big Red Dog was trained by Cesar Millan,
Very Hungry Caterpillar and other Pests that BT Pesticide Destroys Easily
How The Runaway Rabbit Never Finished High School and Flipped Burgers for the rest of his life... etc.

HAHAHA! Excellent. You should publish! I can picture the illustrations already.

Remember my husband making the comment a few months about my username being boring compared to my friends on the OT? These comments reminded me of the time I tried to explain what a samsooki is...and gave up. "It's a really cute stuffed animal, but it's also a guy, and I really want one. The toy, not the guy...never mind."

We never made it to the Pig-Rabbit discussion. ;-)

omg, i have to jump in here just to echo everything about nycgirl's story, only with me it's this entire site. lol! i'm super, super paranoid conscientious about separating my online life (and various handles) from my offline life, so i go through the same sort of weirdness. in fact, only five people (count 'em, FIVE!) in my real-life acquaintance know about this site, and I had to make two of them promise not to read it. i won't even tell my mom about it. it has nothing to do with being ashamed or embarrassed, but everything to do with my sense of privacy.

(but yes, i'm also dying to know which site and which story and which handle nycgirl is referring to!)

This thread is hilarious (I've been reading it on/off but real life has gotten hectic because the semester started for me)...and by the way the whole bear poop thing is kind of awesome :)

But I just watched episode 5 of Chuno and needed to post my thoughts... can I just say while I was watching the episode I was thinking "Lee Jong-hyuk please be my baby daddy. Please."

He doesn't have as many scenes as Jang Hyuk or Oh Ji-hoo but man, he is killing it, at least for me. He literally steals every scene he's in---GAH! I need to find and watch everything he's been in ASAP. And as much as OJH has improved (I'm really liking his character Song Tae-ha), I've been musing how that character would have fared if LJH had done it. Though, he's perfect for the role of Hwang Chul-woong. And is it bad that more than the love story I am more intrigued by Tae-ha and Chul-woong's past history together? But yeah...LJH is pretty awesome in this IMO and charismatically HOT! (note: I feel like I'm going to raving about LJH on all future Chuno related posts--so be warned ;)

@Samsooki
I think you forgot Road No.1 on the list of Upcoming Dramas. It has So Ji-sub (yay! Jisub Addicts :), Kim Ha-neul, and Yoon Kye-sang and sounds like it will be interesting. I like the cast and the PD/writer team so am really looking forward to this!

Might I suggest making the lucky 5 who are in the *Circle of Trust* sign a non-disclosure agreement. You know, a garden-variety NDA, which might make you sleep just a tad bit easier at night. ;-)

@ Taohua

I dunno, I feel like samsooki (who is weirdly on a bear poo state of mind lately) purposely left out Road #1, so he can keep KHN to hisself.

@hjkomo - speaking of alternate identities, if you find a strange name involving fiber crafts and canines asking to follow you on twitter, that would be me. Oddly momosan and my main alternate identity was taken on twitter already. Odd, because the main id has been mine for about 15 years, and only on ebay has it been snapped up before I got there. So I had to make up a new identity for twitter.

Since jb can see my email address, she could probably easily track me down since that id has my real name tagged on it in some archives (from back in the day...nothing dies on the internet) but my private email address only a few friends, my bank and my insurance company have. Heck, my cousin who forwards every known spam message doesn't even have that one!

Ooops - forgot - yeah, there is ONE site, which is perfectly innocent, however, I don't let my family follow me on there, because there is one forum where a bit of venting MIGHT be going on.....maybe.

Hi you guys,
just finished reading the 500+ posts ...wow, you guys are getting sooo violent ( @Samsooki, sorry buddy, but I'm not there to administer any CPR or offer any humidifier...but what's this about Samsooki's poo, bear's poo???? o_O You guys are cracking me up though!!!
Hubby has told me about the fierce storms that have arrived in the LA and Bay Area ( Hope that you are ok @hjkomo). We are actually having very warm weather here in HKG ( 20'sC). My Mom FINALLY sat on her own today, and also walked for a few steps. I changed my return to the States to the 31st and also bought a new tix back ( I really don't want to run the risk that I might get snowbound in Beijing). So, now, I will be taking Cathay Pacific and will go DIRECTLY back to LAX. Try not to "fight" too much while I'm away. I REALLY miss you all very much. My 15 min of computer is up ( long time ago)...take care.....cingdoc

my friend's sister (who is only 24/25) had a stroke a few days ago, and that make me kinda scared, because she's still so young, and she doesn't seem to have any health problems, being an active girl (or so i've heard)
so to all women (and men) of this DB land, please... please... take a good care of your health, do annual check ups, eat healthy foods, exercise more... etc, etc...

@cingdoc,
glad to hear your mother is getting better and had started walking again...

i forgot also to mentioned 2am's new mini album, the tilte song is quite nice (always love changmin's voice) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IxOQ4Ma-3E
for the full minialbum http://sookyeong.wordpress.com/2010/01/21/kpop-review-listen-to-2ams-new-minialbum-%ec%a3%bd%ec%96%b4%eb%8f%84-%eb%aa%bb-%eb%b3%b4%eb%82%b4/

i'm going to have a one week vacation starting tomorrow, and would have limited internet access (being limited means i had to fight with my sister for internet time on the computer :P), so take care everyone...

@ nycgrl

That is too funny!
Luckily, hubby has no interest whatsoever in kdramas and kdrama-related sites. He already thinks I have secret online rendez-vous with my secret kdrama boyfriends, and it's been years now (thanks to JB!)...but the less he knows, the happier he is. He prefers not to venture down this particular rabbit hole. ;)

A few months back though, he joined Facebook to network and to catch up with old friends. And he made me agree to not befriend (or whatever you call it - I have no idea) any of his friends and vice versa...but then, he goes off and befriends a bunch of my friends. WTH?

@ Samsooki

Oh, you WISH you had a white furry rabbit to use as your wiping material of choice back when you had to poo in the woods, don't you? :P

And I see, I'm going to have to recommend some better reading materials for Ji Hoonie's storytime....an auntie's work is never done for a child who has Samsooki as a father (Samsooki's sister, in case you are reading this...I guess that would apply to you more than any of us, eh? :P )

@ Taohua

Oh, Lee Jong-HOT can be my baby-daddy anytime! ;)

@ cingdoc

Still afloat up here (although, I did have to enter my car this morning through the passenger side in order to avoid getting my legs wet in the river formally known as my street ;) ).

@ ockoala, mookie and all other HK movie lovers

Just to share with you my favorite English site for HK movies: http://www.lovehkfilm.com/ While I like reading Chinese news about HK movies, I love that site for its 'western' lense. It was started by an American Chinese from SF who began his love for HK movies while working in a video shop during college days (what a familiar story - think Tarantino!)

The site has now expanded so much that there is also a segment on pan-asia movies including our beloved k movies as well. Very good writing from its panel of writers.

There's a review on Bodyguards and Assasins, only if you don't mind spoilers. And they have also just polled a list of the Top 50 HK Movies of the Decade.

@ cingdoc

Great to know your mom's progress. Perhaps you should give yourself a break to watch Bodyguards and Assasins!!

@ Samsooki

Not to patronize but as a mom having a reasonably well-behaved teenage daughter: early indoctrination gets more than what you dream of! My girl told me now a little pictorial book that we read to her often when she's between 3-5 had a profound effect on her. The book is entitled "Good Bahaviour Bad Behaviour". But I bet you have already been doing this!

Haha, nycgrl, love your story!

Like Sarahbeans, I'm paranoid about separating online and offline. When I first started posting on forums long ago, I would write broken sentences (ellipses galore) so that people could not guess my major. I deliberately chose a nick that was as far removed as possible from my real-life personality. (a timid and quiet bookworm calling herself "thunderbolt"? *falls off chair howling*)

The first time an online friend called me, her first word was "Thunder?" I growled "Wrong number" and hung up the phone. Completely forgot I was Thunder(bolt).

I'm petrified that I will one day forget myself and sign off as "thundie" when writing to folks in my offline world. This secret life must be preserved!

Taohua... Lee Jong-HOT is MINE. Have loved him since Green Rose. He is by far my favoritest character in Chuno.

Wow, already past 500!

Anyway,I'd better go to sleep. the reason I dropped by here is that I just finished JB's recap of WISFC, Ep.13,( thank you JB!) And she mentioned something about another shower scene of Go Soo? :D It was way too embarrassing to ask about it on that recap thread , so here I am. Can someone tell me exactly how many minutes into the drama that scene is? At this moment, I sorta given up on watching this drama as it makes me feel totally discombobulated. But another SHOWER scene? It's harmless(an understatement).

lol@ nycgrl, that's the fun of married life, knowing ur hubby knows u so well (ermm, it had a better ring in my head...)

@ cingdoc, glad to hear your mom is doing better.. speedy recovery!

o I've seen Bodyguards and Assassins... it does live up to any expectation. I'm warming up to Donnie Yen since Ip Man, I'm not sure if age gives him a less pompous acting style. And Leon maybe the only singer turn actor that SHOULD only be an actor...period. But I'll credit the movie to this Peter Ho (not JNR's, gosh I read the actor Peter Ho is/was a player (@ockoala: he hit in Shishi @ Young Yang Clan!!....plz tell me he's still with JNR!!!), he does repeatedly give us very solidly good movies, his last one Warlords did not disappoint as well, which is very hard to come by last decade, I concur @ ockoala.

@ epyc, I love that site as well. hehe any honest subtle jabs at Red Cliff and John Woo esp fr a non-local pov intrigues me! (but then of coz the subsequent <3 for RC2 brought it down many notches, though yes, it's the best thing JW did in decade+) It saddened me though, by reading the review how few he enjoyed....same sentiments here. I do in general agree with that top 50 list, but we really cant have my wife is 18 there ( Ekin...*cringe*) when its K remake: My sweet little bride PWNED it bad.

Whoa!

I've always thought that life would be a lot more manageable if the husband were not quite so sharp. I kid. The best ones are the ones who have the power to surprise us.

My husband is mercifully disinterested in K-drama and tolerant of my internet activities. I once had someone I'd only known over the internet come to stay with us - she'd traveled halfway round the world, it was only polite to offer my spare bed for a couple of nights. My husband didn't even blink. That's how well-trained he is. :-) And, yes, my internet friend and I got on as well in real life as in virtual, it was cool. Not without risk, but ultimately cool. So, tea at the Ritz with an utter stranger wouldn't have fazed me; I've had potential axe-murderers under my roof! (Though, just so you know I'm not completely devoid of sense, I knew people who had met her in person, so it wasn't an *utterly* blind date, as such.)

@ Fantasy Couple

Watching this, I realise that this was but a dress rehearsal for You're Beautiful. Adorable obnoxiousness, adorable denial of obvious mutual attraction, adorable affectionate acceptance of the Adorable Dysfunctional Other's eccentricities... It's all there in Fantasy Couple, then honed into a fine art and taken to the next level in You're Beautiful, which cut down on drag and multiplied the fun.

It's all there: The Good -- how in the course of silliness and hilarity the characters somehow get under your skin and make you care about them. The Bad -- lack of subtlety, over-the-topness, over-reliance on symbols and symbolic moments. And the Adorable -- Initially hateful Anna/HTK, when thrown unusual circumstances displays unexpected humanity and ultimately becoming loveable. There's even an adorable family dog in each.

Having said which, I'm not sure I'd recommend FC. I'd rate it "average" only.

Righto. What shall I watch next as displacement activity? I know, I shall watch WiSC and numb my brain! But do I really need a headache? Decisions, decisions,...

Thanks for the link, I've visited the site before to read individual reviews, but now realize its chock full of goodies. I should keep better abreast of HK film development (*cough* k-drama overload *cough*), and now I can!

I'm definitely going to check out Bodyguards and Assasins, and the review is pretty spot on in terms of what I was expecting, cool beans. I've got the 2 part version of Red Cliff sitting on my shelf, and neither hubby nor I are tempted to watch it. I should tempt him with Lin Chi-ling or something like that.

And I can't believe this - it was actually done! Storm Warriors - They actually made a genuine sequel to Storm Riders (minus Shu Qi), but with Ekin and Aaron. Wow, and 11 years later! Storm Riders was sorta at the tail end of my unquestioned adoration of HK cinema, back then, if HK made one, I watched one. But Storm Riders was a tad underwhelming since it was so hyped up, and after SR, I just gradually lost interest (expect to pop back up for Shaolin Soccer and Kungfu Hustle).

Watching Storm Riders - my only memory was that Aaron Kwok had never been so hot, and he was the least fave of the Four Sky Kings for me - Andy Lau FTW! Lemme know if I should attempt to watch it.

@ 501 nycgrl :

Very scary tale. Much more frightening than the thought of all that bear and other poo in the woods, not to mention the dirty rabbits. But the scariest part is the bit where he didn't tell you for months... Has he been punished? Will he never ever do that ever again?

@ cingdoc : good news about your mother. I hope her progress continues to be strong and positive.

@ the bedtime tales discussion : a book I read as a very young reader, about a young girl who wouldn't wash her ears so her mother (? or someone) dropped seeds in them while she was sleeping and she woke up with carrots growing, has left me with a deep seated paranoia about dirty ears, and has put a lot of money in the pockets of Mr Q Tip.

I was deceived by your fake screen name and must have skipped earlier this morning. Happy to hear your mom is doing well.

Here in So Cal, it's been raining at least ever since I've woken up which is not that long ago. Around here under ground water(hum, there's a name for it. I can't remember it right now.) is only 11" beneath the ground, so my whole yard is sub-merged in water right now. Arrrgh. So, far nothing detrimental yet, though. Good for citrus crops around here. It's just wet all over.

momosan and all others who gave me advices on purchasing Mac.

Thank you everybody! I finally placed my order today! It felt like my head was clear enough to talk to the mac expert on a phone asking all the questions I had since I couldn't view some of the tutorials on apple site( more bugs on my PC, yikes) So, they have to build it and I'll get it mid next week! No more viruses and spyware! I'll be happy. and it's in time for my trip to Japan next month. I just have to show some video clips and need internet/skype access on that trip, So, I'm sure I'll manage to learn to do those without problems. Relieved...

Watching Chuno Ep. 2. More chocholate abs. My goodness, those guys are half naked most of the time, so far... Are they going to be clothed eventually? Once winter comes around? I like it so far. Jang Hyuk is doing a fab. job. I never care for Robber, couldn't finish that one. So, it's the first one, I'm actually watching him and getting into the story.

Hum, I'd better add that I don't necessarily judge dramas based on numbers of bare chested men running around on screen or anything.

Note for the geekazoids among us. Firefox 3.6 came out of beta today.

Why do you care? Well, among other things, it changed the themes over to something called "personas" - and a quick dip through the user generated themes shows that while the perennial popular foxkeh, gradient and firefox themes are the most popular (personally I have strawfox on one computer and susuki on the other) a few k-fans have been busy. There's a BBF personas, several BigBang, Shinee, SS501. And a few Firefly/Serenity, StarTrek, etc.

You can even ::gasp:: design your own! WOOT!

I've been beta testing it for a while. Only dramafever seems to choke it and I think the latest build may have fixed most of that.
Have at it geekazoids!

so.... watching QSD w/ hubby, and a big rant.

I tried very very hard but I really don't see any amazing in GHJ's Mishil, if I stopped at ep 3...yeah maybe, coz it's new fr her. I've paid by now 40+ hours of serious eye gouging attention already, but all I got was repetitive, redundant, monotonous reappearance of the smirk and the eyebrows. I just want to slap the upside of her head, not because I care enough to hate Mishil, but I'm having a big visual fatigue.. it's there when she's angry/in evil glee, when she's commanding her bro/her lesbian friend to drink some poison...blablabla. so cartoonish it's tiresome and messing with my head unlike the neverending stream of tears fr CJW@StH at this point. There's no nuances, there's no appropriateness, and she just keeps smirking and raising her pretty eyebrows in a continuum .. It's like she was botoxed while she's doing one of her smirks and it stayed for EVERY frEAKEN scene thereafter. If I'm going to make caps of GHJ as Mishil, I'll get carbon copies for godzillion eps *roar*

I know reading recaps of QSD by Belleza will be superfun, but definitely not watching it.

Talking about Tablo. I have a little story to tell. While I drown myself in Kdramas, my daughter loves kpop. About a few weeks ago, she noticed from one of her teacher's facebook a photo of a young teen Tablo. It was then known that his teacher and his wife - both Aussies - were Tablo's high school teachers when they taught English in Korea. They didn't realise the energetic boy they taught years ago is now a big name singer, and were so excited to see the beautiful wedding photos of Tablo and KHJ. It's a very small world, isn't it?
