Idol star Taecyeon up for Cinderella’s Sister
by javabeans
Huh. After unconfirmed reports initially spread the rumors, now it has been announced that idol star Taecyeon of boy band 2PM will be making his acting debut in the upcoming Cinderella’s Sister.
This news was confirmed on January 25 via phone interview with a source at the drama’s production company, who said, “To be exact, Taecyeon’s casting was confirmed today, the 25th. The contract hasn’t been finalized, but we have made a verbal agreement. Although talks didn’t take a very long time, both Taecyeon’s side and the production side have made this decision after plenty of deliberation. Both sides think he’ll bring out the personality he’s shown in variety and entertainment programs in a natural way.”
Not being a follower of 2PM, I can’t greet this news with any excitement, and in fact I’m more wary than eager. But, as the drama has by now cast three strong actors in the lead roles — Moon Geun-young as Cinderella’s stepsister (who happens to be the not-quite-villainous protagonist), Seo Woo as the kind Cinderella who seeks revenge on her sister, and Chun Jung-myung as the main love interest — I’m taking this one in stride.
Regarding casting a singer, the production source said, “We can’t say that there were no concerns over the low rate of success for singers-turned-actors. However, Taecyeon isn’t the lead for this drama so we’re expecting him to have synergy with the other actors like Moon Geun-young, Seo Woo, and Chun Jung-myung.”
In the drama, Taecyeon will play an innocent character named Jung-woo who maintains a steadfast love for Moon Geun-young’s Eun-jo, leading to a love triangle with her and Chun Jung-myung. Cinderella’s Sister will follow Chuno and premiere on March 31.

I agree with the person who said that a drama loses a lot of credibility when idol-stars are cast. Plus, to think that Taec would be bringing in ratings is becoming highly irritating - Apart from having Moon Geun Young in it - ratings will depend on timing, story-line and acting. I am going to seriously flip-out if this drama gets good ratings and people are going to pin it on Taec. :( The most aggravating part is that the casting crew didn't HAVE to cast Taec - they had MGY already - what better rating-puller do you need then that? Seems to be a very half-ass choice to me.
word to roxylovesus - I agree.
@skelly - exactly! and then there'll be massive plot alterations to accomodate his fans like there were for TOP in IRIS.
I also agree with whoever said that actors should act and singers should sing. Being just average at EVERYTHING is not as good as just being really GOOD at one thing.
P.S MGY is a DBSK fan. Sucks for that she's going to get bashed for holding Taec's hand when she would much rather be holding Hero's.
I think all this pessimism comes from being so heavily disappointed in idol-dramas and there mediocre acting. We were all just settling into the comforting expectations of a good, solid, powerful drama that MGY generally brings us. *sigh*
I hope, for my sake, this guy can act

I am excited!! :D Kind of, anyway. I shall watch his cuts and if they're sufficiently interesting I'll watch the whole drama. Frankly the storyline is doing nothing to draw me in. How many different ways can the whole Cinderella thing be played out? :(

@gara : you're absolutely right... why not choose chansung instead of taec?
i mean...it's a waste of talent for an actor like him, choosing his singing career for a while...i'm not an anti fan or whatsoever, but i doubt if taec could act properly
peace hottests!!!

I've seen some youtube videos of 2PM and this boy's very charming. I heard that Taecyeon is not allowed to take any acting classes so that he will be just his charismatic self in the drama...who knows it might be good? Or it might stink...at least he's good eye candy. ;)

actually he acts better than most idol-turned-actors
he also went and mastered the dialect needed for his role in this drama.
so i think that he is extremely dedicated for his role given that he is only playing a supporting character

Wow I see a lot of people doubting Taec but honestly his acting was superb and u have to be honest, Taec did bring in a lot of viewers there are a lot of 2PM fans who watched the drama for him! one for example me! LoL and I can assure there are other loyal fans like that....I'm not sayin he's the main reason of the ratings but I can assure u he's part of it! To be honest u gotta admit Taec is a better actor then Seo Woo some of her scenes are so poorly acted out!!!
