I actually don't think the outfit's all that hideous, although the hair is. He's the young version of Snape! And he always smiles so brightly, it's at odds with his emo-ish wardrobe but oh wells, the boy's an awesome actor.

For me, it's come to the point where I actually anticipate posts on him just so I can see what he's wearing and be inappropriately amused. :P

Hmmm...and I thought his goth/emo "hair covering the right side of his face" look was his worst hair look. Wrong. Greasy, stringy, parted down the middle, and flattened against the scalp...that's his worst...so far. LOL But, it doesn't matter, cuz the guy is incredibly gifted...and he's got that X factor goin' on, doesn't he?

I remember him saying something about not being into clothes at all. So, this leads me to believe that he does this because he thrives not only on fan attention, but fan reaction...all kinds, and the stronger, the better. I think he likes to be a provocative individual, and his choices in clothes and hair styles seem to support that. He kind of reminds me of the Artist Formerly Known as Prince...not that he looks or dresses like Prince, but that his approach to style is provocative like Prince's.

Hey, if he enjoys stylin' like this, and he gets a kick at his fans' reactions to it....

The poor boy looks exhausted. That was the first thing I noticed, not his clothes. Despite being in the hospital just a short while ago, he has shown up to two fan events this week, full of smiles, offering hugs, and giving his all. As much as I love seeing him, I hope he can get some rest soon and savor mulling over his "mountain" of scripts.

Well, the post *was* about his fashion, so comments about his fashion is peculiarly logical. Logical is logical. ^^

I think my issue with his fashion is, not only does he have no idea about the "rules of weird", but it looks cheap. Like literally stuff I put together in middle school, what my mom calls my "random hobo phase". I shopped, and still do, at vintage stores, where you can buy a bag of gold for $4. The gaudy bling-bling gold.

JGS has access to better. If he wants to do weird, great! But it seems rather half-hearted, with cheap dollar store clothes at that. It's a mistake; he just doesn't know any better. Lady GaGa is an extreme example, maybe, but you never think she was confused about her outfit. It's all clearly deliberate. I don't trust that JGS "gets" it.

Sadface me :'(, because he's so talented otherwise.

On the exhaustion thing, I'm not liking that. It seems that consistently driving your stars into the hospital is a quirk unique to the Korean industry. It happens in the US, too, stars sometimes collapse and recuperate in the hospital, but it just feels like in Korea it happens per the course. Is it normal? If so, yikes.

i totally agree with you KHJ looks good in almost everything. His stylist must be very very solid.
JGS's hair was way too greasy. At first i thought he looks kinda weird in this style, then i look at his past styles (butch look, drag queen,...), i realised this is still a much more acceptable style.
my favorite has to be the HTK style. I totally dig those low cut tops!

I was in NY one birthday, and my birthday treat was Alan Rickman in Private Lives. Oh, YES! what a treat. He burned those floorboards and had the audience cowering - some of whom seemed to turn up expecting a comedy (because it was Noel Coward?), but by the time Alan Rickman was through with us we were silenced but for the whimpering...

btw, I really don't think JGS' look here is all that bad.. Almost ordinary, actually. I must be getting inured...

But Heechul and JGS are so cute in these programs. This is the hairstyle that I like the best on JGS 'cause it is so short that he cannot do something weird on it. He also dressed normally in 2007 and 2008 but changed to this "trendy" style starting from late 2008. So as someone said here, he becomes bored to be beautiful.

I do have confidence that he can be a good MC for the upcoming Melon Music awards. I am just worrying about his "look". I want a "beautiful" and "normal" JGS.

His dance performance in the 2008 MNET 20s choice is impressive but I cannot stand his "drag queen" look in another music function.

An interesting observation for me is that there are more than 120 comments about what JGS is wearing than there are on IRIS or Smile recaps...(Now just go back and compare that amount to the number of comments on YAB) I find it fascinating...

OMG... Looking at your past examples, this one really isn't so bad. Here, all he needs to do is lose the greasy hair (and middle part!!) and that horrible grandma jacket.

Having said that, I think JGS is still channelling (or trying to anyway...) HTK. I can appreciate that, because some of the HTK outfits were pretty atrocious too. However, JGS still manages to look adorable regardless of what he's wearing... *not biased at all*

I saw the interview online, it wasn't as bad as the pictures showed above. (At least the hair is not as greasy as it's look lol) JGS is still charming no matter what. I wish I can see more of his acting. Within a week, we can see him MC on 1st Melon Music Award..hurray. Looking forward to it and hopefully he will pick a right project real soon. I believe how a person dresses is a reflection of himself. Judging from his style, I would say he is someone who takes risks and is willing to try new things. I feel this is great since he is so young. Now is the time for him to experiment and find his style. Why be safe and staid right? I say go for it, push the fashion envelope and have fun, which he seemed to be having. After all, you only live once.

Hopefully, this translates to his professional life as well in that he is willing to take chances in selecting interesting and challenging roles that continue to excite and entertain his audience.

Personally, I like Hwang Tae Kyung’s style which I find edgy and smexy and that is what I think Jang Geun Seok is – edgy and smexy!

I think what he wears is his choice. what most important thing in the fan meeting was he was really really kind to all fans who waited him for more than 24 hours in the raining weather. He asked fans name and hugged them and gave his signature paper with two hands(even standing every time, how polite!!). Most fans who were there even though not every one got his sign, very happy and satisfied due to his sincere attitude to his fans. we did not become his fans because of his strange hair style in first ep in YAB but because his character and his acting, did we?

I don't think JGS's talent can be explained. Try watching some of his finer works, like the kdrama You're Beautiful for starters. Hopefully you'll see why he has so many fans. Also fans like the fact that JGS appreciate his fans and goes out of his way to show it.

As for T.O.P. his real name is Choi Seung Hyeon according to Dramawiki.
I personally like T.O.P. not for his acting but rather his singing and also because I find him attractive.

I am sure he has many talents. Since he is an entertainer, I will just comment on those that are public:

1) Hosting shows – competent
2) Singing – good
3) Dancing – boy has got the groove and can boogie alright!
4) Acting – good, solid, credible and engaging

His recent role in You’re Beautiful is nothing short of impressive. He brought the complex character of Hwang Tae Kyung to life with a multi-layered performance that is stirring, memorable and endearing. To quote Javabeans, “Jang Geun-seok attacked Hwang Tae-kyung's sneering cynicism with joyful abandon”. Yes, what a performance! In my book, this boy has got acting talent and with his conscientious attitude will go far.

As to why we “like this guy so much”, I think “liking” is a matter of taste and is subjective. The fact that he has a sincere and hardworking attitude towards his work and is sweet to his fans may have something to do with it. The fact (subjective) that he is kinda cute and smexy do not hurt either.

well, so happy to hear abt jang geun suk. honestly, didnt like either his hairstyle or his dress up. wanna see himin his real self.i want MAN to dress up like MAN. no offence. IT doesnt suit him.

I love JGS because of his talent and how he treats his fans. Though I wince sometimes with his choice of fashion, I believe it's his stylist that's to be blamed. He's had the same stylist for awhile and he used to make more personal decisions but have since left them all to her (based on interviews with JGS). If you look at shots of him in his casual garb, he looks fine.

I know some people mentioned he gained weight. After losing 7kg for YB, I think he should gain some weight. I personally think he's cuter when he's not so thin.

Once the the makeup and clothes come off, JGS is still JGS. :heart:
