Order You’re Beautiful director’s cut DVD
by javabeans
You’re Beautiful is putting out a director’s cut DVD, and it’s available for overseas fans to purchase (preorder). The set will have English subtitles and is available as a limited version.
The production company has gone out of its way to make this available to overseas fans, but apparently order numbers are surprisingly low — I suspect it’s because information is hard to come by. (Also, the shopping site admittedly looks a little sketch, but I just ordered and it seems legit.)
The DVD set will be released around February. The episodes will include previously deleted scenes; set also includes interviews with the cast and behind-the-scenes looks. For full information, check out http://minamdvd.wordpress.com/preorder-information/.
For US residents:
Price: USD $120. It is only available for order from Innolife. Preorder here. Credit card required.
- Click the shopping cart.
- Select “next” under the non-members button.
- Fill out your name, address, and contact info. (Check the box under “receiver” if billing and shipping address are the same.) Click “next.”
- Enter credit card information. Click next for confirmation page.
After you place your order, you will receive a confirmation email from “paygate.” You should also receive a confirmation email from Innolife. When the DVD becomes available (as this is a preorder), you may have to pay additional postage. The DVD weight/size is not determined yet, so the postage fee is not fixed.
For residents in Korea or Japan, there is a different process. Please check the MinamDVD site for info.

I am so happy. I just picked up a copy of the dvd, probably not the director's cut as it cost a lot less than $120 (only $20) and I also have pig rabbit ($60). All this for my niece for Christmas, who I got hooked on this.
I will probably pick up my own copy of the dvd when I have more money.

BOOO I'm so sad that it won't be available in Region 1 but all the news about what's included is getting me really, really excited!
Anyone know where I can get region-free DVD players in North America (specifically Toronto or New York)?

Yes, just like Chris has mention, this D-Cut DVD is a limited time only edition. Offer will end January 5th,2009. Any later releases of You're Beautiful will not contain the special interviews with the cast and crew, or the Behind the Scene footage, or the two mini concerts and more. Please do check out more information at the website: http://minamdvd.wordpress.com
And I know how you feel about being a college student and how you need to be tight with money! I'm in college myself, and just very fortunate that my parents have given me a little extra money so now I can buy this DVD without having to starve myself too much! Haha. Anyways I suggest you only buy it if you are totally convinced you need it, otherwise money for education should come first. :)

Your quote: "Updates!! Region code 1 will not be available unfortunately. Read more regarding this in Cecilia’s webpage =)"
Thanks for the update. This is a bit of disappointing news and will likely steer some would-be U.S./Canada buyers away. I live in the U.S. and have bought several k-drama dvd sets...but most have been from YesAsia or Kimook, and all are Region 1.
I've never had a Region Free dvd, before(til I pre-ordered this set)...will it absolutely NOT play on my Sony Region 1 player? I was always under the impression that the purpose of a region free dvd was so that it could be played on any region player...?

Dear Bliss
I will advise you to go to the electronic shop run by Chinese, they usually carry region free dvd player. If you live in Toronto, Ontario,Canada, you should go to Pacific Mall in Markham (Steele and Kenedy) you will find a lot of choices there. The big store like Best Buy or Future shops do not carry this kind of products.
I bought mine 6 years ago from YesAsis.com but I did not go to their web site recently so may be you can buy one from them just that the shipping and handling fee may add up the price.
I hope this can help you to find what you are looking for.

YB just keeps on breaking my heart! First, Shinwoo's unrequited love, and now, this boxset. I have the money to spend (or at least, the credit line), but customs can get really evil and make you pay fees that could buy you another of what you bought. T_T
I've also been saving up for a laptop... I love YB so, so much but I'm not sure if I should go through with this. Aargh, how come this is not available through YesAsia? *sniffle*

Alright JB and the rest of the netziens from above I was convienced and just brought the DVD set. Hopefully it turns out good (as this is my first time purchased something outside US). I need to find a way to cut down my budget agh.... For those who have problems finding a all region DVD player in US. You can go to target or walmart or even Costco and just buy the cheapest one and make sure the manufactures are either from China or Korea. You should be good to go. If you don't want to go to those stores, try go to china town, Viet town, J-Town and/or K-town and buy one from them.

@sukispop
You are mistaken! Please be aware that this D-cut boxset is NOT region free dvd. It will not play on a Region 1 player because that region was not included. The region code for this boxset is 3,4,5,6
What the other people are discussing here is to get a Region Free player, which will enable you to play all dvds. As Show2007 pointed out, usually region free players is always the cheapest player sold out there and is usually some unknown brand.

@113 chris,
Thanks for the clarification. Sorry for my mistake.
@111 Show2007,
Thanks for your tip on going to sources like Walmart, Target, or Costco, to pick up an inexpensive all region player. Much appreciated!
I am grateful that the powers that be have decided to make this Director's Cut dvd set, with all the great bonus material, available to fans all over the world. I pre-ordered a set and am really looking forward to the many hours of enjoyment that it will most certainly provide. And, since it looks like I'm going to be into Asian dramas for a long, long time, it'll be a good and smart investment to buy an all-region player...then, I'll never have to worry about what region code any dvd set might be.

I am very tempted to buy it too since I practically watch it over and over again every day- actually put it this way I will buy it but i am not so sure i want to do it online.... this is just so sad that the show isnt getting much praise and advertisement. This by far for me has been the best drama I ve seen this year! Does anyone know how we can fan suscribe to let them know how much we like it here in the USA??

I knoooooow right?!? I want all those other goodies too!!! I'm still trying to think of alternatives, although a lot of people here have said that the site is legit (even JB herself has ordered it). I still haven't found someone else from here who's buying this. Yeah, I do have $120 but what's making me unsure of it are the postage fees (good luck to us) and the customs thingy. I've heard horror stories about CD's ordered in Korea where the buyers had to pay an amount close to the price of the CD itself. I'm scared it'll all double. Waaah....
@ 115 Lori B
Me too, I'm actually scouring my friends for anybody who's going to be in Korea in time for the boxset release just so this can be shipped to a Korean address. T_T

Do Korean dramas ever get released on Blu-ray? Is Blu-ray even used in Asia? Sorry, I know these may seem like stupid questions, but I'm unfamiliar with Korean formats and I prefer watching things in HD. I'd totally pay $120 without batting an eye if this was Blu-ray, but I would kick myself if I paid this much now and found out it was released on Blu-ray a year from now. Is it too much to hope that this series will be released in high-definition?
I know a lot of work goes into the making of the DVD and extras and English subs, but $120 for a standard DVD set....damn, it's steep!
This is the first series - aside from Coffee Prince - that I've actually considered buying.

By the way, have you watched the videos of JGS and PSY hosting the Melon Music Awards? It is fun to see that they are still close even after the drama. And the chemistry is definitely still there. =)

@ kimchigeol and jamie
i visited yab's thread on soompi last night and they're talking about a new bts video from yab's after party. if you are fangirls like me you definitely must see it!
jgs and psh are really driving fangirls crazy with their actions. i dunno. it's weird. if this is happening in pinoy showbiz i would have just rolled my eyes.. imagine richard and heart, or richard and kc, or richard and jewel being all chummy and sweet to each other (hopefully you're not fans of those loveteams..), complete with richard using his trademark "enamored look" (with the exact same level of intensity whether he is looking at heart, kc, or jewel or even christine.)
so this is really weird for me, being so taken in by jgs and psh and how they seem to be really close and not mind if other people are noticing their closeness. maybe it's because they are from another country.. or that we haven't see them like that with another partner.. if there's one thing i noticed after watching, and being hung up on, a number of asian dramas, it is that they, especially korean entertainment, are not into building up loveteams as pinoy showbiz are. they run away from scandals or intrigues like the plague, whereas here in our country, promotions are being done to specifically induce the public to think a certain loveteam is in fact "for real, and not just for reel"..
howell, whether jgs and psh is being real or not, i would still thank them. for giving me something to squeal about. coz i definitely squealed like a 13 year-old when i saw that video!

I live in the U.S. and two years ago, bought a multi-format DVD player through Amazon.com. I was skeptical due to the low price ($47 US) but thought, why not? I had a few Japanese and Korean DVD dramas in my collection that I had purchased which were not available in Region 1 format that I wanted to watch and thought for less than $50, it was worth the risk. I have to say that I am very happy with my purchase. It's a quality DVD player, sleek and delivers as promised. I have to say, though, that when I received the DVD player, upon closer inspection of the box and manual, it said that it only supported Region 1 formatted disks. I was very upset upon learning this and went on Amazon.com's site to see if anyone else had the same experience and to see what they did about it. I was only thinking about the inconvenience of having to package it up again and returning it, not to mention how extremely disappointed I was. As I read through the first set of reviews, my disappointment turned to relief. It turns out, that you have to program the DVD player to become an "all region" DVD player. Some brilliant person figured out how to do it (and the vendor/manufacturer won't help you or give you instructions) and after following the instructions that were posted and playing my Region 3 DVD of "The Secret" (Taiwanese Movie), it worked like a charm! To date, I have not had any problems with the DVD player. Now, I don't have to worry whether a DVD is Region 1 or not, I just have to make sure that it has the English subtitles! LOL! If you're interested in purchasing one through Amazon.com and live in the U.S., the DVD player is: Philips DVP5140 Multiformat DVD Player w/ DivX, MP3, Windows Media Support. And the best part is that it's only $47.00!
I went ahead and purchased this DVD and can't wait to receive it. I'm a big K-drama fan and even though I can watch these dramas online, I like to purchase personal favorites that I can keep in my DVD collection and watch whenever I want to. I had bought "Winter Sonata" this past summer. I was in the middle of watching the drama and was going on vacation to a country where I knew I would have limited internet access and I was dying to finish the drama. So I bought the DVDs, watched it while on the beach in Cancun!
Hope the info on the DVD player is of value to you.
