Yoon Sang-hyun sings in Tokyo
by javabeans
Yoon Sang-hyun‘s most recent project, My Fair Lady, was a miss, but thankfully for him he’s still riding high on his role before that, Queen of Housewives. The drama gained Yoon fans in Japan after it aired there, and on November 8, he performed several songs in Tokyo at the PAX MUSICA 2009–Asia Pops Platinum Live concert.
The event also marked Yoon Sang-hyun’s first live stage performance. Included in his short song list was the ballad he sang to great response in Queen of Housewives, his remake of Boohwal’s “Neverending Story.” He also sang a song by Hirai Ken (“Close your eyes”) and Nakanishi Yasushi (“Saigo no ame”).
The concert featured singers from several Asian countries; representing Korea were performers like veteran ballad singer Shin Seung-hoon, ex-GOD member Sohn Ho-young, and ex-FinKL member Ok Joo-hyun.

Can someone explain his role in Queen of Housewives to me? The drama doesn't interest me one bit. I only read that his character is a playboy who cheats on his wife with different women? Uh.. so what makes his character a breakthrough then?

Gah, that smile in the first picture, Yoon Sang-hyun is really so sweet and charming, and looking as hawt as ever. Sigh, not every drama is a home run, but he acquitted himself nicely in MFL with what he was given to work with.
@ anna
His character in QoH is what would have happened to Gu Jun-pyo in 10 years had he really married Jae-kyung and gave up his first love Jan-di (I'm referring to Boys Before Flowers). YSH plays Tae-joon, a rich chaebol that was forced to marry a good friend he was not in love with, and 10 years or so later, they are in a distant and disengaged relationship - he is not in love with her and still bitter about his life. And when he randomly meets the leading lady - you see him slowly attracted to her and find himself again.
He's actually the *third* leading male character in QoH, but he stole the show from the other two male leads who had more screentime and storyline. Heck, he stole the show from every single character - and his popularity reflects the fact that he turned a cardboard cliche character into someone a viewer is engaged with and cares about. He and he wife have an open relationship, she knows he's with other women, and she knows he doesn't care about them, he's just acting out in the beginning of the drama.
YSH was very charming in QoH, but the drama itself is only okay. The breakthrough was not the character he played, but how he played him, does that make sense.

I totally agree that YSH stole the show in QOH he played his role so well that you cannot help fall in love with him. Actually he and the leading actress had so much chemistry i was hoping that they would end up together.
YSH and the leading actress i don't know her name made the show.

let's say for me he did that role so well in MFL ...... he totally erased the unfavorable impression of utter cad in Fireworks (Han Chae Young, Kang Ji Hwan).

Aww, I wish I could be there!
Btw, in that first picture, doesn't he have such a Kimura resemblance?
@Ockoala:
When you say YSH was like the GJP 10 years into the future, I couldn't help but laugh! So true! He even sported the King Pama hairstyle (cuz the pama style rocks).

@ 13 Biscuit
"When you say YSH was like the GJP 10 years into the future, I couldn’t help but laugh! So true!"
Oh, I can't take credit for that, JB recapped the first four eps of QoH and she made that comparison, and as the drama progressed, it was so apt it really stuck in my mind, so I'm just passing along JB's apt observation. But YSH really made Tae-joon/Tae-bong such a twinkly, engaging character, I loved him to pieces in QoH.
@ 8 mary
"Actually he and the leading actress had so much chemistry i was hoping that they would end up together"
I did as well, but I knew it wasn't going to happen - it would require Oh Ji-ho's character to end up with his hoobei, the ex-wife of YSH, and neither really loved each other. Plus, Kim Nam-joo, she still loved her husband, and they had a kid together. I knew this drama wasn't going to break-up child-included marriages, even ones that maybe should have been broken up. Anyhoo, I think YSH in QoH was such a gentleman towards KMJ, it was so endearing, it doesn't matter who he ended up with. At least he was happier.

he really resembles Takuya Kimura in MFL and on that 3rd picture too. In MFL seeing him running around, the way he runs looks like Ahn Jae Wook's character in Oh Pilseung Bong Soon Young.. i don't know why, but he reminds me of him.

@ockoala ---- i agree with you!
@ana....this drama is as ockoala said is okay but what brought the flavour into this drama (like in food perhaps) is yoon sang hyun. he stole the show from the leads to the max! i never was interested in watching it at first coz i thought well it's prob one of those dramas with so many characters & thought the title was kinda Desperate Housewives if you will but all hell broke loose when Yoon sang's character came into the picture....he was excellent in his role as Taebong...so suave & cute! I love this actor so much that i can't seem to get enough of him .... even now that the latest drama of his came to an end I was still rewatching & missing it! I needed a YSH dosage each time as he's just addictive! *_* I sure hope that he gets another project soon cause i'm not the only one who misses him as you can see from this board! i'm so delighted to hear he's started to be recognized in Japan & i hope he gets more fans there too! sarang hae Yoon sang hyun, you're my no. 1 Korean actor! You're hawt & you rock!
thnx dramabeans!

@turnthedice....i saw o phil seung and ahn jae wook is also one of my favorite k actors & u'r so right, yoon sang reminded me of him in that drama! i think yoon sang has that gift and i read that the bazi reading whatever that means like a card reading if you will that based on his birthdate, yoon sang has an X factor that draws people to him! he's truly charismatic & i just love him in all of the projects he's been two of which is Queen & MFL.
more power to you Yoon sang hyun

I think this hairstyle suits him the most and I have to admit I have a sort of mouth/teeth fetish; and his smile does it for me. See the close up of his teeth in the 2nd pic - wow, perfect ! and in other pics in QoH, his lips are soooo.....words elude me. There, my fetish out in the open ! haha. But truth be known, this guy has oodles of charisma and charm and he should never, never, ever shave off his moustache and his dusky complexion will only enhance his macho aura. His age instead of being seen as 'negative' as opined by some here, to me only adds to his allure, what with that sexy crinkling at the corners when he grimaced or laughed. Enuf said !

@dancing queen --- well said....you took those words from my mouth! hahaha yeah i agree his age was never a factor for me let alone his wrinkles on the corner of his eyes...that truly adds charm! he's oozing with charisma & i can never find any other explanation why oh why i luv him so much! i used to like many K actors but now i'm just focused on YSH....forever and no other K actors can ever replace him in my heart! Another thing u mentioned his moustache....i second the motion...i hope he doesn't shave off that moustache as he's one of those men who really can get away with it & look sexier!!!
I can't wait to see him in a new drama & that'll be a big treat again after MFL! Need I say more?

I'm from Indonesia and MyFairLady just've finished airing here. It was fabulous! Though it draws fewer attention than BoysBeforeFlower, but it linger longer. I personally love BaeYongJun and find no one equal to him,but here I find someone who is. I love YoonSangHyun, addicted to him, and can't get enough of him. Actually,he wiped off my suicidal thoughts that occurs often, so he kinds of saving my life :P May God bless him with health&prosperity always.

I really like his role in MFL; he 's got my interest on his CHARACTER especially. He is very charming and gentle and full of charisma. He is so sweet and his dying hairstyle also capture my attention. How he is taking care of the rebel princess without tyring and always be her side whatever the condition is, it is really something that can only happen in the drama.
Moreover, I never get tired of listening to MFL songs; as I always listening every night. It is really beautiful that I even I can sing the songs by myself.
Thank you for creating such romantic and beautiful drama
