Weekend dramas stay strong

Smile, Three Brothers, Loving You a Thousand Times
It’s a good time to be a weekend drama: Saturdays and Sundays are home to a number of thriving dramas these days. Leading the pack is KBS’s family drama Three Brothers, which again surpassed the 30% mark this weekend. Following the highest-rated series of the year (Sons of Sol Pharmacy), it seems like it has found the right tone to carry a similar viewership.
But it’s not the only series with healthy broadcast numbers; over on SBS, both weekend dramas (Smile and Loving You a Thousand Times) are faring quite well.
Three Brothers
Three Brothers airs in the earlier hour, and although it occupies first place, relationship melodrama Loving You a Thousand Times (starring Lee Soo-kyung, Jung Kyeo-woon) isn’t far behind with its most recent episode bringing in 22.5% ratings. Unfortunately, such strong showings for those two means MBC is stuck with a low 6.5% for its Eugene-led family drama Creating Destiny.
In the later hour, the competition is closer, but for now Smile is sitting pretty in first place as the romance and laughs continue for its stars Lee Min-jung and Jung Kyung-ho. Its most recent episode pulled in a 17.6% and its performance has been deemed strong enough to merit a 16-episode extension. (And I can tell by the reactions of guest recappers soyjoy and dw4p and from the comments by readers on this site that the show is certainly connecting with fans.)
Meanwhile, MBC’s Assorted Gems is performing solidly with a 15.6%. Even the car-dealership-set, manhwa-adapted drama Hot Blooded Salesman, which stars Chae Jung-ahn and Park Hae-jin, isn’t doing too badly with a consistent, mania-level performance in the 9%-10% range.
Now, if only there weren’t so many of them and they weren’t so long, I might have the time to keep up with them…!

Out of all the weekend drama I'm only following Creating Destiny but it's because of Eugene. I'm just watching it for the sake of finishing the story and I'm kinda interested in how they're gonna end up together. Besides that, I really don't like the "elders" storyline or the sister storyline that much. The acting.. ehh if I can tell that it's bad then it's pretty bad lol. Usually I don't pay attention to the acting much but umm.. something about it is just weird!
I'm planning to watch Smile, You cus everyone is raving about it so I'm gonna have to give that a try before I brush it off (cus it's 46 eps now freaking long). I MIGHT start Loving You 1000x but ehh.. too melodrama for me!
Besides those three, the others don't really interest me that much... not a fan of long drama.

@karened @Rin: I don't like the elders storyline either so I always fast fwd thru them (I'm talking about both Creating Destiny and Smile). I dunno, maybe all long weekend family dramas have this. But I do like the sister and the playboy friend storyline in CD.
@yen_nguyen: You dropped LYATT because the brother cheated on his wife? Too bad. It's in the synopsis if I'm not mistaken. The drama sparked my interest because of the surrogacy issue, and the story is intriguing because of the 5 people relationship : Hero-Heroine(surrogate mother)-Hero's brother(child's father)-The wife-The mistress(heroine's friend). I'm excited to see how everything unfolds. Some people might find it a bit slow, but for me the pace is just nice (sometimes fast) for a 50 ep drama. It's not even that melodramatic like Winter Sonata or MISA. I think it's more like Shining Inheritance.

I am in love with: You're beautiful and Smile, You. I really like creating destiny and Iris, and im also watching loving you a thousand times (though im a bit behind on LYATT).
Im really sad you're beautiful is ending but this season is FILLED with alot of dramas im enjoying (unlike last year where i dropped watching dramas faster than my hungry cat diving for food). Im really happy with this season's episodes, and i hope this continues on!
Im downloading hot blood but im not sure about watching it or not. I am also watching more than one drama that is more than 30 episodes long, so starting 3 brothers which is scheduled for a 50 episode airing does not seem too appealing. As for Hero and Invincible lee pyung kang, i have skipped through the first two episodes and i feel like that good season has ended and a season of disappointing dramas is going to start again =S

My take on three brothers,
The youngest bro (cop) is really good looking, but somehow I can't connect with his acting. It feels like...fake?.every scene with him and the clingly woman (the one who got dumped by her jerk bf) made me cringe. They look acting in every scene ( I can almost picture them with script on the screen to read or something) instead of being the character~ IMO at least
Smile You - what can I say, I am soo into Sooin couple, tee hee
Creating destiny - boring.
LY 1000x - have yet to watch

Wow had no idea there were so many actually...but you're right about the length of weekend dramas! I'm only watching Smile and that's hard enough to keep up with so far.

there are a lot of Smilers here, and I'm one of them too, I think a drama debuting in a Weekend slot is the most difficult of all since it's where most of the family members are watching in Korea. anyway I really adore Smile You now. I'm now on Episode 12 and I can't wait to watch the next few episodes, it really makes me feel so in love and happy whenever I watch it, I don't mind it being long since it's my first weekend drama in a long while ^^

I tried watching "Three Brothers" but Viikii.com doesn't have anyone to subbed it so I stop watching. But because the raitings are high, I suddenly have renewed interest. "Smile, You" and "Assorted Gem" are what's keeping me busy these weekends. I love the character developments of both dramas.

I have never watched a longer kdrama before (the longest drama I watched was the Taiwanese It Started with a Kiss) and I first watched Smile, You expecting it to be a regular 16 or 20 episode drama. When I found out it was longer I thought about not watching it but now I'm so addicted to it. I love You're Beautiful but I'm ready for the end, on the other head I was so happy to learn that Smile, You was extended.

What we noticed those main lead storyline with family issues and side stories will attract the korean viewers then just the story of A romance and there must be some REALLY NASTY characters to add up the spice.
