@39 ockoala,
Oh, and hubby is DYING to watch Ninja Assasin, go figure? samsooki, from your male perspective, does that movie sound/look appealing to you? It sure doesn’t to me, and I’m also not a Rain fan.
I'm a guy, and so I am pretty much a sucker for any and all the martial arts training sequences, training montages in general, battle scenes, and revenge mano-a-mano or man vs. horde of faceless bad guys. I am pretty sure that Ninja Assassin has all of the above. repeat - all of the above.
So in the words of Ben Affleck playing the role of Holden in Chasing Amy: "Then what's to know, my friend? What's to know?"
***
Btw, if you guys ever have an issue with trying to keep a man occupied and brainless, here's the way to do it. It's sooo easy to get a guy to chill.
1. order a pizza. no overload of toppings, just pepperoni or sausage is fine.
2. if he drinks, throw in some corona lights with lime. if he doesn't drink, throw in a few sodas with ice.
3. get a DVD of something relatively mindless that has fighting, training sequences, battle scenes. So, DVDs like Rocky I, II or III (maybe IV, but definitely nothing after that), Karate Kid I or II (but not III or anything after that), Bloodsport, perhaps Road House, or something with a more Asian theme like the Killer, Hardboiled, Once Upon A Time In China I or II, Tai Chi master, Drunken Master, Iron Monkey... God of Gamblers II...
4. Leave him alone and let him watch his dream life without interuption, without asking questions about plot or characters or making comments like, "that's so unrealistic."
Poof: brainless mindless in a food coma and in another world hubby, for an entire afternoon.

That's hilarious. I was laughing so hard reading it my husband asked me if I was reading 'that blog' again. I read him your conversations with your hubby and he commented, "oh, it's good to know I'm not the only one feeling that way.'
I'm still waiting to watch Ep 12. Since we are going to Legoland today, don't think I'll be able to watch it till late tonite. Arggh....
Going to the USC/Stanford game tomorrow. Will it be bad to cheer against hubby's team??

On a much more interesting note, I can't wait for Ninja Assassin! It's because of Rain that I even know what Kdramas are.

When I was 14, *everything* qualified as an emergency. If my tight jeans with a zipper on the bottom was in the wash, that was an emergency. If I didn't have anymore hairspray, that was an emergency. If my mom tossed my Tiger Beat, that was an emergency....well, you get the picture, right?
Your daughter is what my daughter will be in 10 years, so I am getting reading for that day. I actually am surprised that you convinced her that New Moon was not an emergency. If NM is NOT an emergency, then I don't know what is? I mean, hello, shirtless Tayler Lautner turning into a WOLF?!?!
Mini Twilight rant (nothing too dire, TW lovers, so don't fret, my views on this *literary* collection is well-documented, I'm talking now about the movie(s)):
I didn't like Twilight the movie because Catherine Hardwick was never the right director for that type of movie adaption. She made it too mopey and tepid and not enough fantasy. Chris Weitz may not be a great director, but he's pretty good (About a Boy is superb). I was disappointed by what he did to The Golden Compass (thereby ending the possibility of them making the BEST book in one of my favorite trilogies - The Subtle Knife in His Dark Materials collection - sniff, sob, the thought that I'll never meet Will Parry on screen, it's pretty depressing), but I put all the blame on New Line's bad campaign and the horrible miscasting of face-frozen Nicole Kidman.
But I think CW is gonna take New Moon and make it right. For that reason only, I'll probably watch the movie on DVD (I can't brave the hoards of 15 years olds at the theater). But I'm torn, because NM is my least favorite TW book (well, Breaking Dawn doesn't even rank, because it's like a parody of the entire franchise, so I can't even evaluate it, it just kills me).
Bella: "Edward! Edward! Edward.....! Edward......? Ed. Ward."
Edward: I'm exposing myself in the Palazzo, and I won't be arrested for indecent exposure, because ancient vamps will kill me, cool.

Happy OT everyone! I haven't been on in a awhile, missed it though. Seriously! Been busy vacationing and scratching my neck over You're Beautiful. Can't wait for next week but hope not to see any spoilers. It didn't necessarily ruin this week's ep but I think any further information from this point on would definitely dampen the experience.
Hope the weekend is great! Happy posting!
@32 lovenyc52....Where are you purchasing this Pig-Rabbit ? My kdrama buddy is in love with it and says she NEEDS it...please let me know. Thanks.

the emergencies were between Ninja Assasin and New Moon.. and alas, the azn pryde in her won out.. and she's going to watch Rain (even tho the girl's not a fan of his) over shirtless Taylor Lautner (only because he's now dating Taylor Swift, and in her book, no ppl that have the same name should date. it's JUST WRONG!--her words, not mine). hence, NM is not an emergency. (plus she's not getting any more money while we're away on vacation, so she better emergency prioritize).
and i agree on your "rant". those are actually my sentiments exactly.. about the books and the movie. i'll catch NM when it's offered for free during customer appreciation days. i'm even too cheap to rent it on DVD. lol.

@ ockoala - i have been reserved for 2 New Moon viewings already... please please please let it be better than Twilight. PLEASE!!!
@ Nea - i'll most likely be buying the pig rabbit from the dvdheaven site that @meh posted earlier (see post #23). i'll have to check out the site when i get home and see what it'll take to buy it ha. pig rabbit, here i come!!
@ 63 buns27 - haha it's muuuch easier to spaz with people my age lol. their drama is such old new and i'm beyond ready for it to end already. I know my twin lb_tmi feels me on this when i say that, yes of course we want jae back cuz he's their one true leadja, but i will always support them as the 6 member group they are now. Eagerly awaiting my hard copy of 1:59PM. As for Junsu, he does look different - mainly his less gummy smile and his nose, but i can't figure out if it's the angle of the pictures or his weird new haircut that's makin his face look different. He DID have surgery for rhinitis a few months back though... i just don't know what the surgery entailed and how it affected his face...

Hi Everyone!!! YAY! Friday!
Friday in college is sooo much crazier! soooo relieved!
I LOVE Assorted Gems, even after 2 episodes. The family is just awesome, and I totally need to watch episode 3 in HD, which I might be able to do today! Yay!
And I LOVE reading the YB recaps! It's funny seeing how everything turns out, and squealing over Pig-Rabbit, albeit vicariously. I'm just thinking, I'll watch it during the summer, so I'll stop reading recaps! (no way!!!).

After my Kdrama obsession for almost five years now, I've FINALLY gotten my best friend to agree to watch a drama with me over Christmas. So, I've decided we're going to watch YB. She's such a fan of teen romcoms there's no way she won't love it. Actually, I think she's been resisting so much because she's afraid she'll become obsessed too, ha!
How are the NaNo people doing? I've technically written enough to be "on target" but uhhhhh...only like 10k is for the NaNo novel *headdesk* I'm going to catch up. I'm going to catch up. I'm going to catch up.

Ok, since I'm bored at work I thought I would make a list of all drama series & movies where the girl pretends to be a guy.
If any of you can think of any more, please add on :) Watching some of these again might relieve my YB addiction...
Movies
- He's a Woman, She's a Man
- The Lovers --- If you haven't seen this, then it's a MUST WATCH! This is basically the Chinese Romeo and Juliet story (though this story is much, much older). This rich girl wants to study at a school but back then only boys were allowed to go. So she disguieses herself and at school she becomes friends with this boy from a poor background. During this time he has some Gong Yoo-like anst towards him/her but he's not sure why. However before they can confess their love, her dad tells her to come home because he wants her to marry this other rich guy...
- Butterfly Lovers --- a wuxia version of the above love story. Has Hu Ge and Wu Zun to look at but all-in-all this remake is pretty bad :(
Drama Series
- Coffee Prince
- You're Beautiful
- My Bratty Princess --- with Jang Nara :) but dubbed in Mandarin
- Butterfly Lovers --- A drama version of the film, The Lovers.
- Hanazakari no Kimitachi e
- Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu --- Hana Kimi, TW version.
- Eternal Happiness
- Mulan --- with Anita Yuen. Funny, maybe she was typecast? kekeke :)

HARD-BOILED WONDERLAND AND THE END OF THE WORLD.
That book is amazing. Wild Sheep Chase, Sputnik Sweetheart, Wind-up Bird Chronicle -- they're good. (Sputnik is a little spare, Wind-up a little bloated.) They're classic Murakami. But Hard-boiled Wonderland is GENIUS.

I have successfully hooked 3 guys on k-dramas by starting with Emperor of the Sea. For which I can thank the late lamented AZN network for showing. So, start with a sageuk with your mentioned highlights - the regularly scheduled battles, random sword fights, etc, and you should be able to suck them right in.
OTOH, there was an epic fail trying to get one brother in law to even watch. But then, since he also fails to appreciate Yellow Submarine and roots for the Ravens, I count that as pretty much a lost cause to start with.
@ hulahoops87
I actually AM old enough to be your mother. Not a huge fan of 2pm, but I'll listen. As a music buff, I find Heartbeat to be a very interesting piece of music. To be honest, the only musician I'd go totally fangirl over (defined as - if you randomly stepped into an elevator and found yourself with said person would you totally and utterly embarrass yourself) is Roger Daltrey. Yes, I'm that old, and yes, he was that hot.
OTOH, The beauty of a really good show like YAB is that it can be enjoyed on a bunch of levels by almost anyone. (Like Rocky and Bullwinkle, which sadly you are probably too young to have watched.) I was trying to infect my resident teenager with YAB (she had been holding out until after exams, the little swat) and while she got some of the obvious little nods to other shows, many went right over her head while she was enjoying the dialogue. OTOH, when she saw the bit where the A.N.Jell members enter the show from the car - in slow mo, and in formation she went "IT'S BOF!!!! The entry of F4" LOL! Turns out she hasn't seen Hana Kimi, which I will soon rectify. ETA: oh, and she loved the guyliner on TK....
I think it's pretty amazing that YAB seems to have eaten DB, Viikii, Soompi and Livestation.
Off to try to get the deadline projects out of here by Sunday! Since my other addictions, Top Gear and Dr Who premiere on Sunday, I have to see if any of my friendly sources have managed to grab BBC 1 and 2. Last time I checked, they were cut off.
Oh, and I still call dibs on KRW.

"I don’t get it. I don’t see the attraction. Should I read the books? A friend offered to buy me the entire series just so I could read it."
Okay, this goes to show that when I try to be nice, not to inadvertantly insult lovers of the TW books, or Stephanie Meyers fans, I come across as "into" the Twilight series.
Hee hee, crzycpl, in no uncertain terms, my personal opinion of the TW books is that it is poorly written (the dialogue actually hurts your brain when you think about it), a navy destroyer full of cliches, and generally is pretty lame when it comes to the vampire mythology. I started reading it a few years ago when I heard it was good (bad Newsweek reviewer, bad, I will never trust you again) and I had the flu and was laid up. Confession time: I love a good teen lit, even though I'm light years from teenage angst, still, a good teen lit can be very entertaining. I read the first three books and was mildly entertained, but kept thinking, this is not very good (even considering it was teen lit), and the lead heroine annoyed me so much I wanted to headdesk her until she was unconscious and could now longer spout her babble.
And when the Twilight phenomenon took off, I knew it was bound to happen but just shakes my head if someone says that its a masterpiece or something like it. TW books are easy reading without much substance. I wouldn't spend money on it.
TW movies are a whole another phenomenon - I think its taken a life of its own outside the books because of Robert Pattinson (and now Taylor Lautner). I was talking about the movie NM above, and about how it could be good, regardless of the general limitations of its source material.

YB is a seriousy cute drug......just got up (and really it is an ungodly hour, but 1st thing - head to OT!) and watched Ep 12 again.
@ockoala re: Twlight
While I know (I really do know) the writing style does not really hold up (ok it really does suck, can't argue with Stephen King!), confess I had gotten majorly hooked on Twlight saga last yr. Then waited with anticipation for the movie.
Pre booked seats for the 1st week screening etc. Bad move. Stuck with squeeling hormonal teenage girls who screamed EVERY time RPatz/Edward appeared. "OMG OMG OMG he is so hot!" " Ooohh Edward isn't he the hottest" (OMG OMG OMG indeed...but rather OMG can you shut the hell up!....Closest thing to committing murder as I have ever come.) Bought the DVD and not since watched it in full.
This time, while the shirtless Taylor (who would have thunk he would buff up so well? makes me feel inapproriately pervy LOL) and wolf pack is appealing, am gonna wait until a weekday (aka Tween free or Less Tweens?) a few weeks after.
Re: Golden Compass
Botox'd Kidman suck the life out of The Golden Compass. I kept being distracted by her 'frozen' face. Blame her botoxed forehead and New Line spazz marketing for its failure. It is a shame that it tanked so badly that that rest of the series won't be adapted. I too wanted to see who Will Parry would be onscreen :(

Twilight (the movie) was so big. Almost everyone I know were forming little groups of going to the opening night. For New Moon... nothing. I haven't heard even a peep from my friends about it. I, myself, will probably watch... when I run out dramas to watch and it's out on DVD. I really hope it's better than Twilight but I don't have a whole lot of hope since some of my problem is with the casting of the main characters.
I haven't heard a whole of talk about Smile, You today. That is too bad, because after the last few ep. the main guy in the show has become my all time favorite male lead. It also has the cutest interaction between the leads of the "awkward stage" I have seen yet. I am a bit weary of the 50 ep. b/c I have been burned a few time. ie. You are my destiny and East of Eden (I seriously felt like I have just wasted many many hours after watching the last episod EofE) For that reason I usually tend to stay away from long dramas. But lately the family drama seem to be really good. I like Smile, You the best, I am liking Assorted Gems, and Creating Destiny is still holding my interest.

A better alternative to the Twilight series would be 'Interview with the Vampire' :-)Much darker but so well written. And the vampires DON'T sparkle :-S .Twilight is almost like the fangless version:-S But Robert P's acting could almost be in the same level of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.So the movie version of Twilight is a guilty pleasure:-)

" I too wanted to see who Will Parry would be onscreen."
Oh, my soul-sister on The Dark Materials trilogy. Have you read the prequel that just came out from Philip Pullman? "Once Upon a Time in the North" about Lee Scoresby (yay, though I confess I haven't started yet - the YB addiction was all abiding but has waned with this weeks episodes which kinda disappointed me).
As for the future, this is what PP says:
Lyra's Oxford was a dark red book. Once Upon a Time in the North will be a dark blue book. There still remains a green book. And that will be Will's book. Eventually...
—Philip Pullman
OMG, a book about Will? I dies inside. I cried through the entire last thirty pages of The Amber Spyglass, I was a sobbing, inconsolable wreck (and I almost NEVER cry reading books or watching k-dramas, movies or TV in general). Hubby had to buy new books because I ripped it up with my water marks. And then I cried through Lyra's Oxford, because the only thought going through my brain was.......Will, she misses Will, but he'll always be with her...... (mental ockoala convo in my head: Mr. Pullman, I hate you, I love you, but I hate you, but then that was always the way it was meant to be, I know, but you didn't have to rip my heart out and then leave it outside my body for the rest of my life, now did you?).
If I ever decide to have another kid - I'm naming the girl Lyra and the boy Will. End of story.
And in my mind - if they did make the Subtle Knife right after the Golden Compass - they needed to do a search for Will, because there was no young actor I have seen that IS Will Parry (Freddy Highmore is close, but he was the voice of Pan, so I can't imagine he would be Will as well).
Kirjava and Pan.

or, in my case, pizza and WoW (World of Warcraft). Apparently there is a group called WoW Widows. I’m not going to join them cos I think WoW now gives me an excuse to be on the computer or watching kdramas all the time. It works out all for the best, really
I had to give up WoW. I used to play.... an inordinate amount (40 hours a week, minimum?), and so it was literally sucking up all my time.
Literally just quit, cold turkey. Saved me from being beaten to death with a frying pan. It was hard to quit, sure, but I got other "passions" now. LOL.
=)

He's a Woman, She's a Man looks really interesting. Now all I have to do is find it with english subtitles somewhere... *goes off to search*
Another drama series would be one I recently found on viikii. They call it there "Bold Beautiful Women" where the main girl goes bald due to heartbreak, and pretends to be a bald man for her job....? or something like that. I have yet to watch it - waiting for the subtitles to be finished first!

Was I the one to bring up New Moon? Lol, one comment is so influenctial!
Well I personally love Twilight. It's a sweet get away from reality. I've learner a ton of new vocabularies from reading them. Rain over Taylor Lautner?! I like my men who has more than 4 lines

OMG. A book about Will. I'm going to have to go out and get the book about Lee now. I re-read the Golden Compass books last year, and I was SO happy none of the enjoyment was lost in my growing up. I still cried in the end.

Hard-boiled, eh? Will need to head down to the local Waterstone's tomorrow and grab me a copy.
@ 75 ockoala
LOL .. sorry I mistook your comments on TW to insinuate that you were 'into' the TW series. And I thank you for your comments on the books. At least I now know NOT to read them.
@ 85 samsooki
40 hours? Try 70+ here. I don't think he sleeps! I would pull the plug on the game, but that would mean my internet connection (and hence, connection to OT) would also be lost. So, it's a lose-lose situation here. :D Frying pan. hmm.... I might try that. :P
I did try to get him to watch kdramas with me. I made him watch Full House and Coffee Prince. He thought SHK was cute but Rain was annoying with all his yelling. After that he vowed not to watch another kdrama again. Then I begged and pleaded for him to watch CP. He reluctantly agreed but thought it was pathetic how Han Kyul couldn't work out the Eun Chan was a girl. *rolls eyes* I have now given up on making him watch kdramas with me.
---
On an unrelated post, as I am too busy chatting with you lovely folk here on OT, I decided not to 'cook' dinner tonight. So it was a case of leftovers and whatever else was in the fridge. So dinner consisted of: 1. Chicken arrabiata ready-meal from M&S; 2. Pak choi with oyster sauce; 3. Kimchi; 4. Prawn crackers. :D

@ 58 langdon813 :
Sorry, I was having internet problems this morning so I cut and paste my comments from a window that wasn't willing to be 'submitted' and I missed out the key paragraph...
"Then I decided no, it's more likely she's an international spy and this is her secret agent code name. Or it stands for something (and I spend a few happy seconds trying to work out what as the page refreshes : Let's All Now Give D.. O.. N..?, or Let's All NOT Give ??? Live And Not Get Depressed Over Nothing? I quite like that one, but the 813?). It gives food for thought, especially when I prefer not to think about all the things I should really be doing instead of refreshing dramabeans one more time, just in case..."

"LOL .. sorry I mistook your comments on TW to insinuate that you were ‘into’ the TW series. "
Don't worry, I guess when I take a step back (a giant step), I wouldn't have finished reading all 4 TW books if I didn't enjoy it on some level. So I guess I was "into" it, but really, it's pretty mediocre writing, story and vampire lore at the end of the day. However, one reason to read it I guess is to understand the pop culture craze and pop culture references related to Twilight.
As for an amazing teen lit series that is light years ahead of TW on every level, I highly recommend His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman (as if my fawning over it in earlier posts isn't any indicator of my unabashed love for this story). It's got stilted moments, to be sure, but I find the sum of the whole to be very rewarding journey to take.
@ gallivanter
Did you read HDM trilogy as a teeanger? At what age do you think its appropriate to read. I read it as an adult in my twenties, and I have a hard time thinking its for young teens? Just curious.
I'm assuming you've read Lyra's Oxford, no? Hubby ran out and got Lee's book a few weeks ago (also, it's his namesake, hee, I'm revealing much today, oh ho).
I also spend downtimes in my pretty jam-packed life trying really hard to think of a loophole (you and bspanda know what I'ma talking about), one that remains true to the multiverse coda we know to be true, yet allows us to either open a new window, or perhaps discover another open window, one that does not put creatures of all universes in jeopardy. And that will happen one day, and it will connect to that garden in Jordan Collage, and I will feel complete again.

@Twilight
I read all the books, but the movie was seriously disappointing, but then again I had high expectations. I actually think of the movie as more of a comedy now. My favorite moments of laughter are when RB tries to looks like he's in pain because of being close to KS in the movie but tends to look constipated, while Jasper just looks constipated period.
Or the part in the hospital when she's like you can't leave me, and sounds like she is about to suffocate. IDK...I end of laughing hysterically at how ridiculous it is.
I def think New Moon will be better, but not by much. Anyone else think the wolves look like overgrown puppies in the trailers? I end of laughing each time. My best friend and I are going to see it early Friday morning in the hopes that all the screaming teens will not skip school and we can watch it in peace.

"Live And Not Get Depressed Over Nothing"
HA! I love it! That's much better than the truth.
And I do try to live that way, so well done. I think Kdramas (especially the sad, depressing ones) help with that tremendously. Just have a good cry every day over someone who generally has it WAY worse that you do...works like a charm. ;-)

Have you seen Bride and Prejudice? I didn't think it was fantastic, but it was amusing and I liked the OST.
I saw a Shahrukh Khan movie on an airplane last summer which is called (I just looked it up on Wikipedia) Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The English title when I saw it was "All's Well That Ends Well" which was odd b/c it was not an adaptation of Shakespeare. I liked it--Shahrukh is a dorky civil servant who marries the daughter of his dying professor at the prof's request and then masquerades as a cartoon-like "cool dude" to cheer up his depressed new wife.
But I myself am looking for new Hindi rom-com recommendations, if anyone has any. Thanks in advance.

@ 96 : Live And Get Depressed Over Nothing [say that] 813 [times]
K-drama fills pretty much the same role in my life, too... except I can't bear to watch the weepy ones. I cry so much already in the happy funny ones I'm afraid I would have a complete breakdown in the intentionally sad ones. YB is currently making a hellish term bearable -- I might well have committed some serious violence before now had I not been able to laugh so much and so often with YB (and you guys). A number of my colleagues don't know how close they have come to being stabbed with a pencil during mind-numbingly long meetings recently. But then I'd get a little picture of TK recoiling in horror, turning over and patting the de-nosed pig on the back... and devote my energy to stifling the giggles.
