Into the Gunfire casts Cha Seung-won, Kim Seung-woo
by javabeans
Confirmed: Into the Gunfire [포화 속으로], which is set to begin filming shortly, has cast Cha Seung-won (City Hall) as a North Korean officer and Kim Seung-woo (IRIS) as his South Korean counterpart.
As previously announced, the Korean War film formerly known as 71 (and originally starring Kim Bum and Yoo Seung-ho) has been reworked by a new production company and given a new cast, starring Kwon Sang-woo and TOP as student soldiers who defend their home from invading North Korean soldiers.
The casting of two of its stars (TOP and Kim Seung-woo) makes sense given that the new production company, Taewon Entertainment, is also behind IRIS. They’re following that 20 billion won blockbuster spy hit with another blockbuster that, with Gunfire‘s 12 billion won budget, promises to be one of next year’s largest-scale action films.
Into the Gunfire will begin shooting on November 25, shortly after Cha Seung-won wraps filming on his Lee Jun-ik period piece, Like The Moon Escapes From Clouds.

Have you noticed that his hair doesn't move - like it's not real. He's very talented and a handsom but I noticed all through City Hall that his hair NEVER moved like normal hair. :P

Gosh, these k-actors just keep on going, like energizer bunnies. CSW is going from movie to drama to movie to movie just in 2009 alone, and KSW has been filming IRIS all year and isn't even taking a breather before jumping right back in. Hey, strike when the iron's hot, I understand.
@ Elena
Cha Seung-won's every other body part was moving just fine in City Hall, I'm willing to give his hair a pass since it was, and still is, the least important part of his mesmerizing charm on screen. But yes, I concede, the hair was pretty stationary. However, I think LSG in Brilliant Legacy and JIW in My Fair Lady was also gifted with the same hairstyle, it must have some powers I'm not aware of.

Lol, I never noticed that. Perhaps I was just too preoccupied with Jo Gook's expressive eyes...

This is Kim Seung-Won and Cha Seun Woo's second film together "Break Out" was the film they both starred in previously. I am certainly looking forward for this movie. The cast is good. I hope the film will also be good.

CSA does have a really nice looking chin besides all his other attractive features. I would never have noticed it if the KSA character had not complimented him on his chin in City Hall.
Hmmmmm moving hair...something to think about.

I've watched up to Ep 8 of IRIS and whenever KSW is onscreen he really grabs your attention, even though many of his scenes are non-speaking. There's something very intense about him; it's very intriguing and makes me want to check out his previous work.

@ langdon813,
i love KSW. This gives me a chance to tout again one of my fave K-dramas ever, Hotelier (2001), which stars KSW, a pre-Winter Sonata Bae Yong Joon, a Song Hye Kyu i can stand, and a lovely Song Yun-ah. It's also among, maybe the best dramas at depicting the inner world of a work environment, which k-dramas rarely do (being more focused on family or nameless corporations). in this case, the hotel becomes the family for its employees. my husband and I have never looked at hotels the same since watching it. enjoy!
still waiting a couple weeks for IRIS to start so i can see KSW et al! (it'll be after My Fair Lady ends on KBS World)

I also have a soft spot for Hotelier since it was one of the better early kdramas. The theme songs still kills me and I could just picture Frank holding the chaumet clover necklace in his hand while the song is playing. I liked both guys to the point I couldn't decide who Song Yun Ah should be with but ultimately decided KSW had his chance and missed the boat besides Frank is an orphan and I am a sucker for lonely suffering orphans. BYJ does the impossible and his character Frank is the first 2nd lead male--and maybe the only-- who actually gets the girl. All hail to the power of yosama! He moves mountains, splits the sea and gets the girl as the 2nd male lead. Also it shows the hottest kiss at that time not once but twice. My virgin eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing since the most people did in kdramas back in the day was do the violent hug.
My only gripe is the god awful english. Frank is suppose to be adopted as a child yet I could barely understand anything ByJ said. Also I just love how they seem to pick up any random non-korean off the street to act in the American roles even if they can't act to save their lives or if the accent is completely wrong. IRIS so many years later after hallyu and a huge budget is still guilty of this. Can't they pay to fly over some poor acting students from LA who needs the acting experience for a couple of days?

Loved KSW since Hotelier, he was the best part of that drama. CSW is so hot right now it's no wonder he's not short of work!

Gukie Gukie Gukie!!! Really the fact that Kwon Sang Woo is playing a student no longer bothers me, as I am sure my attention will happliy be diverted elsewhere.
While I am still going through the Cha Seung Won films, can someone please enlighten me...
Has Cha Seung Won ever been in a film where his eyebrows have been 'tamed' a bit? I mean that was the first think I noticed when I watched City Hall, and it was a bit 'meh? near monobrow?' but then of course I learnt to love that and much more of him. :)

Yup, check out Hotelier. This is also one of my all time favourites - BYJ and SYA at their very best. Like what paula said, you never look at hotel staff the same once you've seen this. I am a BYJ-SYA shipper and can't swoon enough of BJY's love-at-first-sight-no-hold-bar actions.... but Kim Seung Woo always get my tears whenever I re-watch this scene:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvIDCvSzfak
Three and a half minutes of thinking, walking, thinking and walking only to realise how he has lost the girl on his OWN making!!
"BYJ does the impossible and his character Frank is the first 2nd lead male–and maybe the only– who actually gets the girl. All hail to the power of yosama! He moves mountains, splits the sea and gets the girl as the 2nd male lead." This is the main and prime reason of Hotelier's CHARM to me and many other women out there LOL! Mind you, despite the City Hall kiss in Ep 14 reigns in my book, I'd say the lift kiss in Hotelier is close behind as the second. It is just HOT even by today's standard.

I am watching both City Hall and IRIS at the moment but didn't recognize Cha Seung-won at first - thought it was So Ji Sub for a second there. ^_^
@24 nycgrl - I agree with you about the Engrish in IRIS!!! Would it really kill them with that budget! to hire a couple of unknown American Actors? It's funny when WITHS2 corrects it in their subtitles.
IRIS: Is there anything movement?
WITHS2: Are there any new movements?
IRIS: Is there any signals or communication systems?
WITHS2: Are there any signals from any communication systems?
Gah, Lee Byung Hun speaks better English than the Americans in this series. LoL.

It's nice to find here many fans of Kim Seung Woo.
I too was impressed with him on Hotelier and have seen most of what he's done. He has the every day man quality that allows him to take a variety of roles.
(I personally find his smoky voice sexy.)
He's an actor who does both drama and comedy very well. He doesn't always get the girl, even when playing the lead; that gives me the impression that his ego is in check.
I am so looking forward to this movie..

There was a kiss in Hotelier? I can't remember one! All I remember is them sitting in chairs, yards apart, in back of that huge suite. I can't believe that I missed a kiss... I usually have an eagle eye for such things...

"He’s an actor who does both drama and comedy very well. He doesn’t always get the girl, even when playing the lead; that gives me the impression that his ego is in check."
"How to Meet a Perfect Neighbor" is one of them. I really loved that drama for Bae Do Na and CSW. It was fitting that he didn't get the girl in that drama but their friendship chemistry and dialog was what made the drama for me and not the love angle. I also thought it was fitting that Bae Do Na saves the guy (in this case the 2nd lead).
@skelly -
"There was a kiss in Hotelier? I can’t remember one! "
There were in fact two and they were much more satisfying that the YB kiss.

I never understood why Winter Sonata was so much more popular in Japan than Hotelier. I thought Hotelier was the better drama of the two but then again I don't understand all the weird incest angle and why Autumn Tales was so popular in Korea either so I'll chalk it up to different culture's sensibilities.

@ Kiss in Hotelier
The first kiss needs to be seen from the very beginning. That is, from BYJ kidnapping and locking SYA in the lift onward - so full of power and emotion. It is like a most violent act turning most sweet and swoony, as with the responses of all those hotel staff. I had a quick look at YT but couldn't find one that has the whole lot, what a damn!
Winter Sonata never gets my fancy but I just love Hotelier with a passion!

all you KSW fans (and who knew?),
anyone else see the interview with him on KBS's Entertainment Weekly (it was #1298)? All of a sudden, thanks to I.R.I.S., he's the "it guy," as he put it with a laugh. He looked very dashing wherever they filmed it, making use of a balcony and spiral staircase. They showed images from the cool photo shoot with wife Namju and old clips from his career. He talked about marriage (smartest thing I ever did) and being called an ajosshi at 41 ("they've been calling me that for a decade"). Wish I could provide a link!
@Artemis,
I can't stop laughing at the re-subbing of Engrish.
@nycgrl,
thanks for the youtube :* links. ^^
