Four character posters for Lee Jun-ik’s new film
by javabeans
King and the Clown director Lee Jun-ik‘s latest movie, Like the Moon Escaping from Clouds [구르믈 버서난 달처럼], has released character posters for its four leads, and they are simply gorgeous.
Based on a manhwa created by Park Heung-yong, this movie is set in the Joseon era as a revolutionary attempts to upend the social order and become king. The year is 1592 as the three lead males “are forced to wield their swords at each other in a fateful showdown.”
The lead character (the revolutionary) is played by City Hall‘s Cha Seung-won, while Hwang Jung-min plays a blind sword master; his Accidental Couple co-star Baek Sung-hyun takes on a character abandoned by his family and the world. As the sole female lead, Han Ji-hye plays a woman who risks all to claim the man she loves.
Like the Moon Escaping from Clouds will be released in the first half of 2010.
Han Ji-hye’s poster above reads: “I’m not in my dreams, am I? –Baek Ji”
Cha Seung-won’s tagline below reads: “I’ll cut down this rotten world with my sword. –Lee Mong-hak”
Hwang Jung-min’s reads: “A swordsman must hide behind his sword. –Hwang Jung-hak”
Baek Sung-hyun’s poster: “I’m son of a dog, a son of a bitch. –Gyeon Ja”

Hwang Jung-min as a "Zatoichi" sounds really awesome. I think Cha is a better fit than Uhm, but I would have loved Ryu to play Baek's part.
Not sure about Han Ji Hye taking on this role. Hoping she'll do her best.
And I agree with Sarah. Those are gorgeous, gorgeous posters

Zatoichi but not Zatoichi, right? Unless he also does the sword drawing technique that would make him fairly unique ...

"Zatoichi but not Zatoichi, right?"
Very Zatoichi. Uses backhand sword style and grimaces when drawing sword.

If only good posters could make a good historical film. Remembering what they did to Empress Myeongseong recently in a Su-ae film I'll wait for the reviews.

Luuuuuurve Han Ji-hye's poster...so elegant...
If the film is in 1592, then that means it's the era of Yi Sun-shin and Imjin Waeran... (so a Joseon yeoksa nerd... :P)
BTW, what happened to Su Ae's film???

Rovi ~ Myeongseong was an enlightened monarch who was brutally assassinated by the Japanese. The Su-ae movie portrayed her as having an affair with a bodyguard (no basis for that in history) and her husband, the king, as a wife-rapist (no basis for that in history). Critics said the whole plot was just an excuse for one over-the-top action sequence after another. Boo.

@10 belleza -
Very Zatoichi. Uses backhand sword style and grimaces when drawing sword.
Zatoichi is one of my fav old-school ronin-style series (seen almost all of them, many times), sooooo glad they didn't screw it up by audio dubbing in English, which would have made it unwatchable.
I hope Hwang Jung-hak the blind swordmaster is different from Ichi-san though. I'm skeptical that the portrayal of the character can be as good as the "original." If he starts doing iaido then it will be hard not to make a straight-up comparison and I think the korean version will fall short.

The posters are gorgeous! CSW and HJM in a Lee Jun-ik film really sounds like it would be pretty intense (and sets some high expectations on how the movie should turn out I think)..
I haven't seen anything w/HJH in awhile (the last was like Sweet 18 I think). But it would be interesting to see how she would hold her own in this movie.

Im happy that he chose her as the main actresses. She carries the true essence of korean beauty, not them plastic faces that are TAKING OVER THE MEDIA. her eyes are beautiful!

Very nice poster of HJH.
Also, let's not go overboard - most of the Korean actresses known for their beauty are natural (can't get much past the netizens these days).

"If he starts doing iaido then it will be hard not to make a straight-up comparison and I think the korean version will fall short."
I would be bothered by that, because iaido and kata weren't practiced in Korea in 1592. (Kenjutsu, as know it today, didn't proliferate until during the Era of Warring States.)
Bidam of Queen Seon Duk, he's an awesome creation because he's half wuxia and half iaido, using a backhand sword drawing technique associated with ninja jutsu. It's historically preposterous . . . but it's HAWT!! :D
