Choi Jung-won cast in Pick the Stars
by javabeans
Looks like Han Ji-hye is out, and Choi Jung-won is in. Much (perhaps even most) of the time, when productions announce that actors are almost cast in dramas (as in, the only thing left is to finalize paperwork), that turns out to be true. With Pick the Stars [별을 따다 줘], talk of Han Ji-hye taking the role was premature.
The new SBS drama has already cast Kim Ji-hoon as the male lead and comes from writer Jung Ji-woo of dramas How to Meet a Perfect Neighbor and Family Honor. Choi’s character is a bit immature at 25 years old, dreaming of a Cinderella scenario wherein a prince on a white horse will come along and change her life. After her parents suddenly die, she has to find her own way in the world.
Choi Jung-won was last in the KBS sageuk series Kingdom of the Wind last year, and says she was drawn to this character because she wanted to show the character as strong as well as pretty. Her character’s name is Jin Pal-gang, which incidentally means “deep red.”
Pick the Stars will be a 20-episode series that airs on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning January 4. It follows Angel’s Temptation, which moved up to the 9pm hour to avoid competition from Queen Seon-deok (which may have saved it, as it is doing strongly in that hour, albeit without competition). Then, SBS will also bring back drama programming to its 10pm hour, and will air medical sageuk Jejoongwon (about the first doctors of Western medicine in 19th-century Korea) right after Pick the Stars.

The only intrest I have for this drama is kim ji hoon. If this is anything like neighbor, its going to be 20 episodes of pure chaos and confusion, but. I'll check it out.

SBS.. if you are going to air 2 dramas in one night, isn't it a bigger risk? Why not invest on something that you know fans have been clamoring for and have been very vocal to see again in primetime TV (**cough-more YB!!!--cough**).
Sorry I just HAVE to mention YB. I mean I am not over it yet. the crack is still high on body, and withdrawal symptoms will be at its peak by this Wednesday when no new videos are uploaded and no recaps are posted by JB. No more craziness over a 39sec preview on Tuesday, and no more ear piercing screams on its translations either. Oh no.. I think I might throw a fit on Wednesday when reality sinks in..

I thought her character was really flat in Kingdom of the Wind. Not sure if it was her acting or how the character was written, but I think it was her acting.

Kim Ji-hoon is hot and this girl is really pretty. I don't know if they are good actors and I don't think I'll wait to find out. The story sounds boring and we’ve seen it all before. I’m tired of dramas in which poor/pretty /innocent girl melts the heart of an older/richer/smarter guy who was hurt/abandoned/??? by his evil mother/ex girlfriend/whatever female. When done right clichés can be entertaining but why does it have to be Cinderella over and over again?

Aww, I was looking forward to seeing Kim Ji-hoon and Han Ji-hye together in a drama... guess I'll have to wait longer. Haven't seen Choi Jung-won act though... if I did, I don't remember her.

So disappointed. I love Han Ji Hye and can't stand Choi Jung Won.

She was lovely to look at in KotW, but the picture above was her only single expression throughout the entire series. Happy, sad, scared, lonely, in love - CJW had that very expression above. It was too funny to watch, along with the rest of KotW's shenanigans.
Han Hyo-joo did the same type of *acting* in Iljimae, and though I enjoy watching both actresses in other dramas, but I've come to realize some actresses shine in sageuks and others can't seem to find their comfort zone.

oh common guys. You gotta give people a chance. How are they gonna improve if they dont have a chance to work on their craft. I only seen her through "tropical nights in december". She looks pretty in that picture.
I'll give it a try since i love Kim Ji hoon. Though his roles seems to be so similar, it never really gives him a chance to shine.
Seems like a refreshing pairing.

"she was drawn to this character because she wanted to show the character as strong as well as pretty"
Pretty AND STRONG? That's interesting. Did anybody see this character in Kingdom of the Winds? ;)
Was disappointed in both her acting and characterization of KOTW, in no small part because Choi Jung Won was such a sassy sparkplug in the Fabulous Chili Sisters. Presumably this show would be more in that vein.
Lil perturbed by the name of the title. Reminiscent of "A Million Stars Falling from the Sky", a classic Kimataku drama.
"if you are going to air 2 dramas in one night, isn’t it a bigger risk? "
Very radical BTW . . . if this becomes a sustainable business model for SBS, this would fundamentally alter K-drama programming as we know it. It might usher in the era of true genre and niche programming within the network system.

I'm definitely checking this out simply because of the writer. I enjoyed How to Meet a Perfect Neighbor a lot, and what can I say about Family Honor? The writing was excellent. Simply heartwarming and one of the best dramas I've ever seen.
I'm not familiar with CJW but if her character is going to be as fabulously written as Ha Dan-ah, the female lead in Family Honor, then I'm all for it.

ohhhhhh noooooooooooooooooooooo ....
I loves Kim Ji Hoon, seen him in Love & Marriage and recently just finished
Golden Era of Daughters-In-Law. Without a doubt, he carries both dramas well on his ample shoulder.
But pairing him with CJW!!!!!!!!!
I had such a hard time with her Famous Chil's character and traumatised with her blank-stares-stiff acting in KOTW.
She will pull the drama down .....

The female lead in Family Honor is a much better actress than CJW.
Even if the character is fabulously written but the actress cant carry
it well ... it will be such a wasted effort.

@17:
Lets hope she can carry it well then. And yes, Yoon Jung Hee is a very good actress - she carried the role of Ha Dan-ah so well that I was convinced she's really like that in real life.
Edit:So I did a quick wiki search and found out CJW was in All In. For the life of me I can't remember her at all. Oh what the heck, I will not judge her until I've seen the drama. I remember a lot of people criticized Park Shin Hye's acting ability, but many changed their opinions after YB, right? (I haven't, though. :P).

@ 19 beehive
I totally recognized CJW the second she showed up in All In (which I watched this year) after I watched KotW. She's the dancer girl who was in love with In-ha (LBH's character) but ended up marrying the gangster. She did a lot of hoochie dancing, and it was totally such a different image than her pure highness in KotW.

@20 ockoala:
Hehe..the thing is, I won't remember much if it's something I've watched a very long time ago. (I think All In came out in 2003?) For example, when I saw Han Chae Young in Delightful Girl Chunhyang back in 2005, I didn't realize she played SSH's sister in Autumn In My Heart until my friend pointed it out to me. And I still can't remember her in that show til today hehe :P
But of course I'll remember her forever as Chunhyang!

Again, she's best known for her role in Infamous Chili Sisters; that's what got her a following in China. I actually liked her small part in All In more than Song Hye Kyo.
