Won Bin is an ajusshi for his next film role
by javabeans
More Won Bin = always gooood.
With his successful comeback film (the thriller Mother) still fresh in our minds, the actor has announced his next project: a movie called Ajusshi [아.저.씨], which is the term adult men start being called as they hit their thirties and beyond (although the typical connotation of an ajusshi tends to be the conventional middle-aged man).
He plays a “lonely man who lives as though he’s cut off from the world,” having willingly rejected society. As he meets with a unique woman who opens his heart, the character promises to show a “deep, internal” style to Won Bin’s acting. His co-star has not yet been cast.
Won Bin is still promoting Mother abroad, and will travel to Japan mid-month in time for its premiere there. Ajusshi will enter filming at the end of this year and will aim for a summer 2010 release.

Won Bin? AJUSSHI? This movie will FAIL lol. This is like casting Kim Hye Soo as the Virgin Mary. ;)

Just LOOK at that face! That's the face of an Angel, and unless ahjusshi means angel in Korean, I second belleza, epic miscast of that glorious face.
On the otherhand, more opportunity for Won Bin to stretch his acting muscles to convince us he's an ahjusshi by aging himself.

This is ridiculous.
How can that face up there be one of an ahjusshi's?
Totally WRONG! >.<
So if he is an ahjusshi, the co-star must be wayyyy younger. Cos she has to be of the right age, I mean, of the right look to call Won Bin ahjusshi. This is hard.

Now, if they want to cast Won Bin in the Coffee Ajumma, that I can see. He, his smile and his Mane of Glory (tm, Won Bin Enterprises) . . . he'd make one pretty barista. ;)

Hey, at least I don't feel pervy when I appreciate his many attributes. Ajusshi...well, maybe not, but mature and beautiful? Absolutely.
Wonder who the lucky woman (an ajumma, I wonder?) who "opens his heart" will be? Can I vote for Kim Sun-ah? If Won Bin is a hot ajusshi, then Kim Sun-ah could be a hot ajumma, right? She could certainly cheer him up, but this doesn't really sound like a comedy, so...
What about Jung Hye-young? She's not that much older than him and she's got the same kind of sad face as Won Bin. They both look like they carry the weight of the world on their shoulders...but that might be way too depressing.
Never mind, I've got it...Kim Haneul! She's the right age and she can do happy or sad...yep. That's my final answer. :-)
I'm forgetting about the age difference thing, though....I guess someone close to his age wouldn't call him ajusshi, huh? Oh, never mind...I'm thinking about this way too much!

Oops, so an ahjumma will be cast?
Can it be Lee Na Young? I think she'll be a great spunky ahjumma!
If they need a younger one, maybe Kang Hye Jung?

I don't mind at all. If Jang Dong Gun, Jung Woo Sung and Lee Byung Hun can be hot ajusshi, why can't Won Bin?
I am ajusshi lover..if he enters Ajusshi's World, so I have more option there. :D
unique woman? hmmm, Lee Na Young is okay. Or Shin Mina? They did Coffee CF together, right? and they look good!

I'm always excited about Won Bin's project. Let this be as good. I'm all for Ha Ji Won or Kim Ha Neul. But, no Shin Min-ah, please.

For me, Kang Hye Jung (Tablo's soon to be wifey) is the most suitable if they are looking for unique type-but unfortunately she is preggy. Hopefully, they don't give to any young actress who are popular but with stone face acting, ---please cannot bear to see it.

If they're serious about making Won Bin an a. . .a...ajusshi (*shivers* rly Korea?), they need to cast him opposite somebody like Shim Eun Kyung, who's like 15 years old. THEN it makes sense. Then again, it would be kinda gross.

Good looks + Talent + Bankability = Won Bin
And I don't mind if he is an ajusshi already. Men, even hot ones, gotta age. Gracefully, of course.

langdon has nailed it - mature and beautiful. I second that. Won Bin as an ahjussi will be interesting. I can't wait to see who they cast as the co-star. Hopefully, it'll be a good match. I'm also interested to see what the producer/director consider a 'unique woman' (in terms of character).

The Korean title putting the words with dots in between (아.저.씨). Any special meaning?
What is the exact translation of 아.저.씨 in English?
I feel excited for the news but not impressed with the Korean title. Korean movies are always with terrible titles. I wonder what English title they will use for this movie. Hope they will come up with a better English title.

Just saw the movie Mother - an impressive but very sad movie. Its twists and turns really tie up to the title: Mother!!
Of all the female lead suggestions, I would go for Lee Na Young but in reality the sunshine smile of Shin Mina would be the type to open a close heart.

Won Bin = Ahjussi
Song Hye kyo = Ahjumma
What has the world come to?
Someone invent a time-machine and bring me back to the year 2000 please.
"He plays a “lonely man who lives as though he’s cut off from the world,” having willingly rejected society. As he meets with a unique woman who opens his heart"
So basically he will play an introvert like Ji Jin Hee's character in "Man Who Can't Marry"? Meh....as long as they cast Kim So Eun as the neighbour next door I'm sold.

I immediately thought of Shin Min Ah. She's good at playing those quirky characters plus those dimples?? Could make any man (or woman) fall in love. Seriously, do dimple operations exist? If so, I'll bring a picture of Shin Min Ah to the surgeon and tell him to make me look like her.
Although if she does play the quirky character, she will be so so so typecast. I kind of want her to take a crazy bitch role, she always gets the 'sweet, innocent, quirky, strange' girls. I want her to be an angry and loud businesswoman in her next role. It's not her fault that as soon as she smiles the dimples come out and make her look cute!
(I remember reading somewhere that she was trying to train herself to smile in a different way as to not let the dimples come out; that must be hard! I think Jennifer Garner suffers from the same problem. Dimple-mania.)

MYG is great but she has been opening the souls and hearts of too many ahjussi alreay sort of being typecast for the role already. I just love her role in \My sweet bride. Hmmm... I'm thinking HJM would be great with WB ^ ^ she should be free right since she had turned down her role in one of the dramas she was supposed to cast.
