Secret brings together a “thriller dream team”
by javabeans
Cha Seung-won (City Hall) and Song Yoon-ah (On Air) have a new thriller coming out titled Secret [시크릿], which has just announced its release date as December 3. The film comes courtesy of the writer-director behind the successful 2007 thriller Seven Days, which starred Lost‘s Kim Yun-jin and A Million‘s Park Hee-soon.
The secret of the film’s title refers to Cha Seung-won’s desperate actions as a detective who covers up the evidence of a murder left by his wife (Song Yoon-ah). The movie’s poster, above, shows the detective upon the discovery of the evidence at the crime scene. He becomes torn between wanting to save his wife from suspicion and his conscience. (Watch the preview below.)
My one complaint about the trailer: Is it just me, or does that music (in the second half) sound exactly like the music in the IRIS trailer?
Secret boasts something of a “thriller dream team”: In addition to writer-director Yoon Jae-gu, its director of photography is Lee Sung-jae of The Chaser and editing is Shin Min-kyung of Tazza and The Big Swindle. The film also stars Ryu Seung-ryong, Kim In-kwon, and Park Won-sang.
The film also marks Song Yoon-ah’s first project to be released following her May wedding to top actor Sol Kyung-gu. (She also filmed another movie, Wedding Dress, which doesn’t yet have a release date.)
Quick “six degrees” game (more like two degrees): The writer-director made Seven Days, which used to be called Thursday’s Child, which initially cast Kim Sun-ah before she dropped out. (That production was riddled with delays and she was left hanging for months and finally had enough; a lawsuit ensued, which she won.) And as we know, Kim Sun-ah then starred with Cha Seung-won in City Hall this year.

Hehe... a CSW post will surely bring out the CH'ers....
I wonder why the korean title of the movie is called 시크릿, which is the romanization of the English word Secret (시 shi 크 kuh 릿 rit), rather than the korean word for secret, 비밀.
Meh, I guess they want to differentiate between the 2009 movie and the 2001 drama (with the 100% evil bitch Ha Ji Won, the 100% angel Kim Ha Neul, and the punk Ryu Shi Won (who is the chef in Style!).

I'm so excited about his new movie. :)
I'm not excited about the movie poster though, they obviously shot it way after filming... he still has the CH hair and I don't know, the angle makes him look really old. He looks fab in the stills though.

I love the poster.
They made CSW do such inane stuff in the second half of CH so this movie feels like redemption. CSA is the Samuel Jackson of Korea. Perennially cool!

I wonder too because there's so many Korean movie titles like this. Maybe just because English words are quite commonly used when speaking Korean. (I don't know...)

@Samsooki: I suppose using English, or romanized titles is easier when it comes to exporting movies overseas? Maybe like in Won Bin's movie "Mother", they used 마더 instead of 어머니.

I'm so happy to see Cha Seung Won~~~
Ah, I'm too weak for thrillers, horror, scifi... my poor heart, my heart races too quickly I think I might have a heart attack -.-
But if it's Cha Seung Won, I can use my 6/10 lives (one life went to Hon, and the other went to seeing LBH's abbs in his photoshoot) heh heh.

A noir thriller with Cha Seung Won? I'm in! It looks good, as does Mr. CSW himself, he's still oozing charisma and magnetism left and right. Sigh, I miss City Hall.

@Samsooki, i believe there's a copyright on titles, unlike the states. You can have a drama and a movie with the same title, but not two movies. That's why Mother was called 마더 and not as you say, 어머니. in miguk, you can call your novel moby-dick if you want, or your movie Gone with the Wind. Well, you're the lawyer -- you'll correct me if i'm wrong keke.
i too always find it odd/amusing when the "see" sound is hangeulized as 시 but there isn't any better syllable to use. Coming from 시애틀 this is a problem but somehow koreans know it isn't she-attle. ^^

Wow, I have really missed that voice. Plus, it's obvious from these still photos that CSW is just as adept at acting with his back as LBH is. :-D
CSW should have obligatory shirtless scenes written into his contracts. I mean, really.

As far as I know, Secret is the new title for Wedding Dress. I don't know why they changed the title, it seems to me Wedding Dress is better because it at least generates our speculation about what wedding dress would mean. But Secret is too general.

CHA SEUNG WON!!!!!
He's such a great actor. I mean yes, he's hot, but on top of that he's just a really FREAKING good actor. Broke my heart during his crying scenes in CH.

@wils, Secret and Wedding Dress are two different movies. In Secret, Song Yoon-ah is the murder suspect. In Wedding Dress, she plays a cancer-stricken single mother to young Kim Hyang-gi.

Love CSW and his shirtless back.
I can totally see CSW and KSA being in a detective movie where they play partners. I think KSA will be really sexy playing a tough ass cop. I also want some steamy scenes ala spike and buffy throwing each other around since City Hall's love scenes were purposefully tamed down after the writer and director had some trouble with "Lovers".

We CH'ers have to thank the movie Secret for the City Hall we have now..... because it was Song Yoon-ah, who after making this film with Cha Seung-won. recommended our dearie CSW to the CH PD following Ryu Si-won's parting the project.
I love both CSW and SYA, and will look forward to seeing this coming onto screen.

Hi - Cha Seung Won is a versatile actor. I have watched all his previous films and of course his and Kim Sun Ah's hit "The City Hall". No doubt this movie (The Secret) will be a good one though I think it may be some sort of a take off from the Hollywood movie "Unfaithful" with Richard Geere and Diane Lane. Whatever it is, it surely will be a good one with CSW in it. CSW has a comical flair and I believe a sequel of City Hall or another love-comedy-drama series with Kim Sun Ah will be widely anticipated and watched worldwide again. Like wine, CSW gets better through the years as he definitely looks much much better now than during his younger years. Let us hope his son will follow in his footsteps.
To all the CSW and KSA fans - I am with you!

When Kim Sun Ah began filming "Thursday's Child", it was still under the direction of Yoon Jae Goo PD. After all the brouhaha, Won Shin Yeon PD took over. At that time, Kim Sun Ah and her management company then (Sidus HQ) backed out already. They said that it will now be a totally different movie - however it was actually only Kim Sun Ah, the child star Kim Hyang Gi, the Director and the title of the movie (to "Seven Days")that was changed. Everything else stayed the same, even the script, the storyline and the other casts.

@epyc,
I'm with you... I'll be forever in debt to SYA!
and i'm excited as well to see SYA and CSW again... since they are not a 'loveteam' on Jailbreakers. I adore SYA (But of course I love Suna no less)
