November’s Cosmo features Jang Dong-gun
by javabeans
(I don’t know about you, but I actually like seeing an actor photographed with laugh and age lines. It makes their good looks seem real, in a way.)
Jang Dong-gun is currently promoting his latest film, Good Morning President, in which he plays a handsome single president, which is also the reason why he graces the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine’s November issue.
It’s been a long time since fans were able to see him onscreen, and he explains in the magazine’s interview that he was fine selecting a comeback project where he isn’t the sole star. He said, “One might say there are some shortcomings, but as I shot the movie, in the end I felt there were more positives.” (He is the actor with the biggest name, but he shares the spotlight with the other two president characters, played by acting veterans Lee Soon-jae and Go Du-shim.)
Asked what he would like to do if he could be president, Jang said, “I would be interested in the screen quota issue. I’d like to open up policies that would help those in the Korean film industry.” Jang has in the past spoken out about the screen quota issue in South Korea, which are policies instated to protect the domestic film industry from being eroded by the bigger Hollywood imports. (The quotas make sure that Korean films get a certain minimum number of screening days, so they stand a chance against bigger-budget foreign fare.) However, the screen quotas have been reduced following pressure from the U.S., and there are fears that continued reductions would cause great harm to the Korean industry.

Can he be more handsome?!! That's what a man looks like! I wish that they will use less photoshop when it comes to the female actors aswell. I won't hold my breath but we can always hope...

Dong Gun is gorgeous, generous, rich, great actor and yeah the best part ..single and looking for a good wife..I am certainly in the list of the long names his mom is probably going thru'...LOL..
So anticipating the President movie..heard he'll do a Hollywood war movie next but what has happened to the Warrior's Way movie with Kate Bosworth????

It's getting hot here. Hmmm...kinda unfair that men do age better than women. Yes, those wrinkles do look good on him.
JDG is also MINE!! AND winking at yours truly.
Go! Go! President JDG. Revoke that silly policy.

Did he lose weight, or did I gain it??
Lookin' good, Mr. Jang!
Maybe I'm not used to the style here, but these photos don't look all that 'revealing' to me. He's still wearing makeup, right? And not matter what you do, makeup won't hammer smooth a line when you're laughing.
Also, I think it doesn't matter if he has a few laugh lines~because he's a man. People are a lot more forgiving of men for their age than they are of women. For a woman, it's become somehow like a failure if she ages. Or a crime. So I agree with you, Mona!
And also agree with JB; I like it when actors aren't airbrushed/photoshopped/CGI'ed, etc. It makes them human, and it makes their flaws nothing more than a tribute to their natural good looks.

"I actually like seeing an actor photographed with laugh and age lines"---> totally agree! there probably is SOME photoshopping there since it's a photoshoot after all, but i like how they don't go overboard and let JDG be a bit more natural.

Wow, wow, wow, Mr. Jang is looking yummy these days!!
I have this thing for mature guys since my "City Hall- Cha Seung Won" journey (another hottie there), so I suffer a brainwash or brain makeover, ... they have this manly, experienced, self confidence vibe, and that's soooo sexy...

“I would be interested in the screen quota issue. I’d like to open up policies that would help those in the Korean film industry.”
Sounds like he is a wise person...So he's not just a handsome face I guess but he also have some thought about common interest like this one. I agree with him about this topic, it's become a hot issue in my country too.
And BTW why are men always looking good when they're aged (mostly) but not women...It's not fair !!!

Are there actresses of LBH's and JDG's stature but in the same age group as them? Or is Korea like most other industries where female actresses over a certain age just don't get to play leads? It seems like most of the actresses with "a buzz" are younger -- that is, definitely below 35. And in pairings, like in MFL, older men are paired with younger (much younger) women, but not the other way around (except for once in that awful drama from last year with that lead guy from My Girl)...
I'd love to see some actresses with beautiful age lines and maybe even hints of greying hair profiled...!

@Nom_Kitteh: Actresses of that level would be Jeon Do-yeon, Lee Young-ae, Shim Eun-ha (before retirement). Until recently, Choi Jin-shil (RIP), maybe Jang Jin-young (RIP). To a lesser extent, perhaps Lee Mi-sook. In a few years, we'll probably be able to add Sohn Ye-jin, Ha Ji-won, Bae Doo-na, Kang Hye-jung?

JDG is the best actor ever! The best looking too :)
the second photo is so cute!
i love this photoshoots! i'm tired of other actors showing of their six packs just to sell a magazine. It makes me puke to see them shirtless. That's one thing i always respect about JDG, he never resorted to such cheap way of gaining fans.

These pictures totally made my day. I was supposed to comment on this post this morning, but then I was in a hurry to get to to school. The only drama I've seen him was in 'All About Eve', and he looks older there because of his hair. So I'm not really fond of him nor am I a fan, because it was Jung Woo Sung who stole my #1 ahjusshi spot. (and no, I'm not a fan of Lee Byung Hun either, so I don't understand the fuss over him as well)
But on this photoshoot, I think he looks like a kid, despite of the age lines. I mean, I can feel a young teenager's aura on these pictures, especially the first and second. On the third pic he looks cool though, like he doesn't give a damn about the world.
JB and Nom Kitteh,
What about Choi Ji Woo? I don't really find her pretty, but I think she's aging well. Hmm. What about Jang Seo Hee from Miss Mermaid and Temptation of Wives? But I don't think she's featured too much on magazines. (I dunno. I just guessed. But is JSH popular enough in Korea?)

Thank you, JB, Snikki, Val, and luraa for your responses.
The only one I was able to come up with on my own was Choi Ji Woo. At least she was in a romantic lead recently, and her off-screen love life certainly seems to be feminist-leaning, although I am sure gender politics is far from one's thoughts when in love. Song Yoon Ah might be another contender.
I didn't recognize/or know of some of the ones listed, but that could also be because of my obstinately immature taste in entertainment (You're Beautiful over Iris; a head resting on a shoulder over a steamy kiss).
Bottom line, it appears that there are great Korean actresses working past their "expiration date," which is good to know.

i totally agree with you about men who show off their 6-pack to sell mags and other projects. i prefer actors who keep on their clothes in their photo shoots and dramas/movies. and in these day and age, this breed of actors is becoming rare already. so rare that aside from JANG DONG GUN, i can think of only one other - JO HYUN JAE, who still manages to keep on his clothes.
if actors (and actresses) want to be appreciated for their talent, they should stop acting like they are pieces of meat to be ogled at!!!

Looks like one mighty fine young man to me!
With all this talk of how unfair life is to aging women, I would like to share the view of a very smart old man with you all (especially to all you gals over 40!).In case you missed it on 60 Minutes, this is what Andy Rooney thinks about women over 40:
60 Minutes Correspondent Andy Rooney (CBS)
As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:
A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, 'What are you thinking?' She doesn't care what you think. If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it's usually more interesting. Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it. Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated. Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart. Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if you are a jerk if you are acting like one . You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her. Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize.
For all those men who say, 'Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?', here's an up date for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage Why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!
Andy Rooney is a really smart guy!
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...
It's about learning to dance in the rain.

Hi Javabeans.
coco, that's a good one ;) still smiling after i read it. tq. made my day.
JDG... my most favorite man in Hallyu movie industry. looking mighty fine after all this years. I also have never been fond of LBH so i'm giving Iris a miss at the moment. i do like Kim So Yeon (i think she's a better actress than CR in All About Eve) but she's not the main female lead. anyway Jang Geun Seok (another Jang!) is another great actor i like so my attention is on 'You're beautiful'. i don't have the time to watch lots of series, so for the moment YB is it.

Same here. He's the reason I got into kdrama. AAE was my first venture into the korean journey. And yes, just like wine, he gets better as he ages. Between JDG and LBH, Jang Dong Gun, of course!

"they have this manly, experienced, self confidence vibe, and that’s soooo sexy…" Couldn't agree more. JDG and CSW, they're THE men. A far cry from all these pretty face but bland so called actors that proliferate the screen lately.

Alright, so most foreign language films and/or tv series (except Hollywood or British) aren't screened in our country (India). So it wasn't until a couple days ago that I chanced on the film "A Warrior's Way" and loved Jang Dong Gun in it. I looked for more of his work and found the series "A Gentleman's Dignity" and am now crushing on this man!! I've seen his younger pictures and he seems to have aged to look even better! Extremely hot and such a marvelous actor!
