Tamra will air complete version overseas, not at home
by javabeans
Despite fan furor, the decision to cut Tamra the Island down to 16 episodes still stands, but the MBC drama will be exported abroad with its 20 episodes intact. This mirrors the scenario for MBC’s similarly chopped Strike Love, which was cut to 16 in Korea but exported to Japan with all its original episodes.
Because MBC’s decision came relatively late, Tamra’s production team will be working to cut the remaining material down to size for the remainder of its MBC run. The drama’s first ten episodes were aired intact; beginning with the upcoming weekend, however, Episodes 11 through 16 will show re-worked material of the story that had originally been planned for Episodes 11 to 20. Tamra the Island had filmed much of its show prior to broadcast, but not all of it; the production now has some extra time to complete the filming for the last several episodes according to their original plan, even though those portions will not air in Korea.
What a weird, illogical mess. I’m thinking that if you’re a fan, you may want to wait for the complete version from the overseas broadcasts. Or a DVD release. (The drama has been licensed to air in Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Thailand.)
The fans, meanwhile, are still furious and the campaign to save the show’s original vision is still raging; there are now more than 10,000 posts opposing the decision on the drama’s homepage and street protests have been organized. However, I doubt it will have an effect: If there was the least shot of getting MBC to change its mind, it was dashed over the weekend, when even in the midst of all this attention the drama failed to improve its 5% ratings. Sons of Sol Pharmacy, in the meantime, crushed its competitor as its story heads into its last phases, breaking the 40% ratings mark.

This is such a shame! I just watched Eps 9 and 10 last night and they were both outstanding. One scene in particular between Beo-jin and her father had me running for the tissues. It's getting so good now; we're really just getting into the meat of the story, so the thought of it being chopped up like this is truly distressing. I will definitely be willing to invest in the complete DVD version, although I plan to keep watching as it airs because I have to know who Beo-jin ends up with! I can't remember the last time I was so torn between two leading men.

A damn crying shame!!!
The last two episodes were the best yet. Damn you, MBC!
I hope the uncut DVD's will be licensed in the U.S. as well.
This is going to keep me bitter for a very long time. Argh!

How can anyone know why a show does well, why a show does poorly?
Nobody watched Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip, but 30 Rock flourished. Pushing Daisies was the most-buzzed show on television when it premiered, got nominated for best new series, best actor, best actress for the Golden Globes, and it got a total of 22 episodes before being cancelled, and instead, we have things like Cougar Town...
Since I can't predict or think I have a clue with respect to American television viewing preferences, I cannot say a single thing about what Korean people might want to watch...

As a fan of this show I'm really torn. I've seen all ten currently aired episodes, and I'm totally caught up in the full momentum of the show. I don't know if I'll be able to cut myself off from it and avoid watching the remaining episodes. At the same time, I like it too much to feel okay about seeing a mutilated version of it. Yet I don't know when or how or if I'll be able to see the completed version... It's just a really really sucky situation for fans.
I know this show is flawed and silly and a little cheese-tastic at times, but it still feels really fresh and different and appealing. I think it has something special that makes it stand out from other dramas I've seen, and l'm not even talking about the fact that it has a French guy in one of the lead roles. I can't remember the last time I saw a k-drama love triangle in which both the guys were as compelling, in their own ways, as these two. Im Ju-Hwan has been wonderful; both funny and emotive in ways that never seem stale or overdone. The music is gorgeous, the scenery is gorgeours...
I'm so depressed right now!

!SPOILERS! don't read if you haven't watched episode 10 yet:
sakura, i think you may have misunderstood the preview - beo jin isn't pregnant but the scene just shows how his mother misinterpreted her vomiting as a sign of morning sickness. but, i do think she has feelings for park gyu and doesn't know it yet. anyways, just wanted to clarify that. really loving the show - shame that we can't watch the whole series until it's seen in the other countries. anyone know how to obtain the "extended" series once it comes out?

Sigh! I am so torn like everyone else...watch the mutilated remaining episodes or wait for the DVD to watch it the way it's meant to be watched.
Just my luck I am sure the DVD won't be out for another year or two.
I envy the viewers in Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Thailand- atleast they'll get to watch the full series.

I'm so depressed about this development. :( Do we know when the episodes will air in Japan? I'm hoping someone on Soompi will be kind enough to find/share them, and that the subber will be kind enough to sub them.
Either way, I'm fairly certain I'm going to be buying the DVD. I haven't been this in love with a show for a long time.. It has definitely outgrown its awkward first episodes and grown into something wonderful. I can't wait until next weekend, when the Hanyang storyline begins..

I knowww....i share the same feeling!! If the remain episodes turn out to be too choppy, i will be sooo very devastated!! It`s such a beautiful story, such a shame if it gets butcher like this...but i can`t stop myself from watching it, no matter it will be. :( :(
True true... the two leading men are so good in their own way, if i was Beo Jin, i would be very confused. But Park Kyu`s still my favourite of all though lol

How totally illogical of mbc?!!! And, totally insulting to their viewers in Korea!
I have my own opinion as to why some dramas get such high ratings; despite being despised by the viewers. It's rather masochistic because they are watching so that they can complain, with each other, on how bad is the drama. In the meantime, they are boosting the ratings. Also, they can view the bad dramas with half-an-ear and multi-task at the same time.
I look forward to seeing the entire 20 episodes!

i can understand that it might not be doing so well in the rating compared to other dramas out right now but it is soooo much better then most of them and there is a loyal group of viewers that really deserve to watch the full drama

despite holding out I'm not at all surprised. it's kind of like what happened with joss whedon's excellent 'firefly' which only after 11 episodes garnered a huge cult following (and although i love serenity- boy would it have been great to get to the 2 hour ending after say 5 seasons of quality character development as a drama instead).
right then, i'm going to wait, knife and fork in hand, for the DVD release O_O. watched ep 9 yesterday and am so impressed at the story, characters, searing imagery etc etc and just damn confused as to why the ratings reflect a really minor interest despite the massive fan protest.
a huge loss for a drama that is revealing itself to be something so much more than the average joe tv viewing.

@32, obviously there are people who don't like the show and don't watch it. I don't see why those people feel the need to comment on the people who DO still like the show, so if you hate it so much just move along. It's not like the fans are dumb and think the show is wildly popular. They know ratings are low and they're not asking for special treatment or extensions ,they just want MBC to give them the drama they promised at the beginning. No matter how good or bad a drama is, it's pretty sucky to change the later parts drastically when we are more than halfway through the show.

At Tamra restaurant they serve Caesar salads, cole slaw and potato wedges as side dishes to their main Korean dish (which turns out to be incredibly delicious.) I think many Koreans gave up and walked out of the restaurant at the sight of the Caesar salads after demanding "where is my seaweed salad?"

@35, I'm not taking anything personally, i just think it's pretty stupid (to use your words) to state your opinion as fact, especially when you're complaining of other people doing the same thing that you're doing. I don't think I got into Tamra until the 3rd episode. There was some unnecessary silliness at the beginning. Now @ Ep 9, I couldn't imagine the story not developing or panning out according to the original script. I fear that if I watch the mutilated version and then come across the full version, I'll be disappointed in myself for not waiting but I'm so addicted.
In my dreams, I think of Park Kyu having love anguish for me. "How can you think of William when I'm leaving?" *sigh

When I went to Korea, I heard that MBC is pretty much disliked in Korea. I don't know, my aunt was watching TV and she flipped to MBC news (I think it was news) and my uncle (her younger brother) told her to change it. And then my aunt commented on how she didn't get why everyone hates MBC so much.
MAYBE THIS IS WHY?!
This is sounding like Pushing Up Daisies, except with that show ABC screwed with the show's showing time and ratings fumbled due to that (honestly, if the time keeps changing, how can they keep consistent ratings?). I loved that show, but it always slipped my mind to watch it or when I did get to the time it was supposed to be on it's a different show >:I
