YES! I've been waiting for this film. I loved the Japanese version of it which starred Yamada Takayuki and Ayase Haruka, and for sure, I'm gonna love this Korean movie version. And I love Son Ye Jin as well. She will always be my fangirl crush, I think.

heck, who cares about the bed scene, I'm gonna watch this for the story. I really, really like the story of this drama based on the dorama. It was very sad and emotional, and I pity the two characters. (well, enough with the spoilers) And again, thanks a lot for this news.

There is a statute of limitation for murder in Japan. Not sure about South Korea. I think that the law states that if a person kills another person the case must be dealt with and the person put in jail within fourteen years. That was the law until 2003-2006, it was then changed to 20 years or so, but if the crime was committed before the law change, it is still fourteen years.

I loved the Japanese drama of this story. It's so dark, twisted, and very very sad. The obsession these two characters have for each other and the lengths they go to to save one another, by making one another do horrible things. All while slowly hating each other, but loving each other just the same - because they literally have no one else. It's truly heartbreaking.

I am really, really, REALLY looking forward to this movie. :D (Park Yeon Seon writing the script?? Hell yeah!)

I must say, though, that Son Ye Jin's body in that poster is REALLY photoshopped. Kinda disturbing, actually.

I admire her for being so liberated. And she's always great even when her films are not. A Moment To Remember would have been nonsensical fluff if not for the two great leads. Same with The Classic. But April Snow was bad. Even she couldn't save it.
I am crazy about Goo Soo . Green Rose was so boring but I watched all the scenes with him. Just couldn't take my eyes of him. He is so good looking. I love it when his beautiful eyes have to look sad.

Byakuyako is one of the darkest J-dramas in the last few years. You can say that it crosses the line between being a melodrama and being straight up sadism. But, it probably once and for all, sealed Yamada Takayuki as one of the greatest young actors of his generation.

This is straight up feel-bad territory watching. But, hey, if it worked for Jeon Do-Yeon, more power to Son Yeh Jin. Should be great. :D

Moment to Remember was another movie remake of a J-drama. For that reason, I think the producers had SYJ in mind when this project came up.

I will look forward to seeing this movie. Sohn Ye Jin is no doubt a top star in Korea but I wonder how she is perceived as an actress in Korea, perhaps not as a heavy weight as Jeon Do Yoen?? I guess her beauty kinds of limiting her to feminine and sensual roles. Her acting is however improving all the time and she should be commended for prepared to take risks and challenging roles.

I love her portrayal in both April Snow and My Wife Got Married. Two very different roles (and indeed, two very different movies) but her performance is effective nonetheless.

Just started the drama Spotlight because I want to catch up on dramas by Ji Jin Hee after finishing The Man Who Can't Get Married. The review of that drama was not that good but I like the first three episodes so far. The fact that I know there's no romance between the two leads helps lower my expectation :D Anyone with any comment on that drama??

Yayyyy!!! I love SYJ!!! :) But whoa, she refused a body double. She's a great actress, I don't like her in comedy though. Go Soo's a good actor too.

SYJ is probably not as famous as JDY yet- but then again- JDY really got famous overnight by winning at Cannes.
I like both actress, and I cannot say that one is better than the other because they both are very versatile. I have probably watched most of SYJ's movies except My WIfe Got Married (need to watch it soon).

I really liked her in Open City, she can pull of the "femme fatale" character convincingly. That was the reason why I was really EXCITED when it was first posted that she would co-star with LBH in IRIS. Then, something went wrong, and KTH replaced her. I was really let down- but at least Kim So Yeon is the 2nd female lead- so there is still hope for IRIS. Okay--sorry for that whole IRIS rant-

Now I have watched SPOTLIGHT, and from my opinion, it was bad. Acting wise, everyone was great, plot wise- after ep 5- everything pretty much went downhill, in my opinion.
The fact that there was strictly professional relationship btw the 2 leads bother me quite a bit. I really wanted the romantic aspect to somehow tie in.
The overall feeling that I got from this drama was pretty "dry."
I now understand the hardships of being a reporter on TV- but aside from that- nothing else. Still, if anyone is a fan of SJY or JJH, do check out this drama to see a different side of these two actors.

Many thanks for your response. And you are right: comparing SYJ and JDY is like comparing apple with orange as they are two very different actors but their presence always light up the screen! And I like them both.

It is indeed a let down that SYJ was replaced by KTH in IRIS . I do like Kim So Yuen and who will ever forget her character in All About Eve. She plays it so well that you hate and sympathize her at the same time. I don't have a lot of expectation of Spotlight and couldn't understand why the producers didn't start a romantic line for the two leads. Will see if I can finish it.

I remember in "Angels in America" there was a nude scene that I swear was someone elses body with the actors head pasted on ... it was so bizare and unnecessary for the story.

Lols...I think JB's translation of "professionalism" encompasses the ability to disregard personal feelings/tastes. An actress who can ignore the "gossip" that nude scenes always bring, shows professionalism in her craft - a higher calling for artistry I guess.

It's a term used loosely in asia whenever the ent. industry would give credit for a certain behavior - they just say "it's professional."

I like GS too, but I haven't seen him in awhile. It'll be interesting to see if his acting has improved and diversified.

Byakuyakou (or Journey into the Midnight Sun) is a Japanese dorama. Yes, this is based on the book with the same title. N. and Belleza are right, this is really a dark drama that would not interest the whole audience. At the first episode of it you already know what's going to happen at the end.

Because it represents night and day. In the dorama, Ayase Haruka(or Son Ye Jin on this case) became a gorgeous, girl-next-door and responsible type of woman who roams the streets in the morning, goes anywhere she wants to go. Yamada Takayuki (or Go Soo) is alive at night. Or he works at night. (ack. don't know how to explain it further.) Ok, it's like this: These two work together. Ever since the murder 14 years ago, they have been walking under the moonlight, and they have been waiting for the sun to rise, for them to be free (or the statute) and be together again. This is why it's called Journey into the Midnight Sun because they tread this long walk for them to be together again. It was one hell of a journey though, I tell you.

They did commit a crime because of self-defense, but they had to run away and hide(well, not hide, because they can go out freely). And this is where the detective comes in. I can't go any further than this, because its a spoiler, but the drama had a lot of secrets. (and my memory's a little rusty, so I might just watch it again just for the awesomeness of it and make myself depressed.)

First saw this woman in Summer Scent series, and I instantly liked her. Then saw her again in A Moment to Remember (JUNG WOO SUNG!) and liked her more. But yeah, gotta admit, I didn't like April Snow. It was different, yes, the director had his own mind on how to portray the movie, but, it just wasn't good enough for me to appreciate it. I like her in every movie actually. I can stare at her face the whole day and ponder how on earth I could have her aura and beauty. Ha. I just realized, when she's nice in her roles, she's like the epitome of femininity. Like in Summer Scent, The Classic and Lover's Concerto. And a bit in A Moment to Remember (which I absolutely LOVE, btw).

I did watch a few of Son ye Jin's projects, mostly dramas. A few of her movies. She did give some sort of exposure but not as extreme as full nude. The last movie "My wife's husband". She was ok there,gladly she didn't exposed herself for that movie. Wasn't worth it at all.

All and all, she's still the innocent Son Ye jin that i see in "summer scent". If she does do nude scene. It kinda scares me.Honestly why does they need to do that sometimes. It ruins the movie for me.Maybe i'm a girl and i dont see it the same way. Leave something for the imagination.

Personally, I think Son Yeh Jin has been flirting with the racy since April Snow. A proper love scene seemed inevitable to me, and good for her (and I guess, well, Kobe lol)

Son Yeh Jin is maybe the biggest 20-something movie actress. True A-list who's won film awards. BUT, this is the first really, really dark role that she's undertaking. A proper adaptation of the novel (let alone the J-drama) is going to be award bait.

I kinda have a working theory that had Lee Eun Joo survived, SYJ would not be where she is today. But that speaks more to IMO the greatness that could have been LEJ's career.

Why the block on 'bed scenes'? How is a film effectively to convey passion? There are, evidently, many bad films where bed scenes do not help one bit their ridiculous and thoughtless ideas about love and sex, and for that reason 'bed scenes' get a bad name. But, equally, there are films where prudishness and censorship -internal as well as external- actually defeat their aim and their subject matter. I, for one, do not like the suppression of the physical side of Eros in films that set out to explore precisely this theme. As the story of this film goes, it cries out for the depiction of a desperate passion, so the 'bed scene' is not merely something to be expected or tolerated but absolutely necessary for the point the film wishes to make.

I have great regard for both Sohn Yen Jin and Jeon Do Yeon (a remarkable actress). Happy End was a great film thanks to JDY and the equally great and magnetic Joo Jin Mo. The sex scene you're referring to is truly memorable and actually increases the dark melancholy of the sotto voce, violent tragedy that film depicts so well. Happy End is not a film for the faint hearted. An Untold Scandal is a film belonging to JDY and Lee Mi Sook (acting's one true goddess); they overshadowed Bae Yong Joo and stole the film from him.

And for those who think of SYJ as the personification of 'innocence', my question to them would be, why representing a character who has sex makes the actress or the character represented less innocent? As comment no.37 (Elizabeth) says why does the suppression of the physical side of love spell innocence? Keeping quite about the complexities of love results in innocence? I'm glad SYJ is more interested in acting (exploration, interpretation, understanding) than reproducing the manufactured image her fans are accustomed to, and takes on really bold and challenging roles. I thought she was wonderful, together with Yonsama, in April Snow (a film that could have benefited with 10-15 more minutes added to it handling its mute feelings a bit better than it did) and I can't wait for Into the White Night to be made available on the web and released on DVD (region 2 with English subs. please). Absolutely no chance of seeing it on the wide screen in Europe.

I want to respond to this as well. Firstly, black and white are the essentials of this work - the title means walking in the day in darkness, or walking at night with daylight.

The book itself offers an explanation of this title as well. One line in the book by the female lead said " There's no sun in my world, it's always night, yet it's not dark. That's because I have something else in place of the sun, and that is enough. And with this light, I can turn night into day. I never had the sun, so I'm not afraid of losing it."

The light source - which is the male protagonist, is the light that lits up her world, which can also mean hope, is the only bright spot in her life.

And the irony to all this is the female "protagonist" leads a seemingly luminous life while the male protagonist is the exact opposite. Yet, the one living in the dark is the light/hope for the female who only seemed to have a bright life, but in fact, has a dark past that continues to haunt.

The book itself is truly an amazing piece of work.
