Go Soo announces comeback drama
by javabeans
I’ve been waiting ages for Go Soo‘s official acting comeback after his army release, and not only are we getting a film (the dark thriller Into the White Night with Sohn Ye-jin), he has also decided on a drama return — his first in four years. It’ll come in the SBS series Will It Snow On Christmas? [크리스마스에 눈이 올까요], and co-stars Han Ye-seul.
I’m not thrilled about Han Ye-seul, because she’s had pretty uneven performances in her career and has been coasting on being a CF queen, but I’m going to go into this with an open mind. (To give credit where it’s due, I thought she was pitch-perfect in Fantasy Couple.) And this comes from the director of What Happened in Bali (dark) and the writer of Thank You (heartwarming) and I’m Sorry, I Love You (intense) — Choi Mun-seok and Lee Kyung-hee, respectively — so that is promising stuff.
In the drama, Go Soo plays a man who was brought up by his grandmother in difficult circumstances and shows an “intelligent, masculine appeal.” His character had shared a young love with the girl played by Han Ye-seul, but through “sad circumstances,” they were forced to separate. She is the daughter of a famed doctor of Oriental medicine in a small village, although she’s always being compared to and passed over for her smarter, brighter older brother. She and Go Soo eventually reunite in their fateful love as adults. (The setup sounds trite and unexciting, but given the writing-directing duo, I’m staying optimistic.)
No airdate planned yet, but I’ll be keeping an eye on Will It Snow on Christmas, for sure.

Ah, that's pretty cool. I remember looking up this drama before but the reason for that was because I thought that So Ji-Sub would be starring in it (source - Dramawiki). I'm kind of bummed that that is not the case and that Go Soo is in the drama instead, since I don't know much about him, but still! I'm looking forward to it because it's from the people who churned out Sorry, I Love You.

Go Soo's comeback - yay!
I'm not thrilled about Han Ye Seul, either...especially with the young love-forced to separate due to sad circumstances-and reunited as adults scenario.
Is there a bright side? Well, here's to hoping I won't want her character to be killed off....but, then again, if someone does have to die, let it not be Go Soo. ;)

Look at that smile ! How can you not love him?!!! First the movie and now a drama. I am so excited.
Thank You was great. I loved the leading lady.
I have never liked childhood sweetheart theme. Maybe because I never had a childhood sweetheart. I was always fighting with the boys over everything at that age.

Though he is cute, I find him face expression 'boring' in most of his movies.

While I'm glad Go Soo is being casted in this drama...it also means So Ji-sub decided not to do it, which is a bit of a letdown (since there were rumors he was debating on picking this project and I was looking forward to a new SJS project). And while I liked HYS in Fantasy Couple because I felt the role was written with her in mind, I don't know how she would do in an intense drama ...but I might watch it, since I like both the writer and director.

Go Soo's comeback! YAY!
I was just rewatching an old Green Rose interview last night, and wondered when he would return to the small screen. Guess God answered my prayers.
Not that excited about Han Ye Seul either. But I love the writer (most of her dramas are on my TOP 10 list) and Go Soo's quite an intense actor... so will definitely NOT MISS THIS for anything.

Will It Snow on Christmas? Oh oh, sounds tragic already. Reminds me of Snow in August, the movie.

@12 correction: the movie, quite old, is called Christmas in August. A real classic, must watch. Sad, poignant and utterly beautiful, in the same vein as The Classic, IlMare. If the drama is anything like any of these, I'm sold!

Did you like Sorry I love you? I started it, but I had a nagging feeling it was going to end in tragedy so I dropped it. But if it's good, despite being tragic and sad, I might give it a try. When I'm the right mood for it, that is.

Yeah, the setup sounds. . . .boring. Like it'll have a lot of snow-topped mountain scenes, playing in the snow, piggy back riding, tears of "Oppa, don't leave me!", leaving for the other persons good, etc.
But I did enjoy Han Ye Seul in Fantasy Couple (the only thing I've seen her in). She played Anna so well! So maybe she'll be good? She doesn't strike me as an angsty actress though; I get more of a comedic, maybe even action sense from her. I haven't seen her cry yet. That was the difference between her and Lee Da Hae. I thought LDH was only a comedic actress also (when I saw her in My Girl) but in her crying scenes in My Girl. . .I knew the girl had angsting chops. Han Ye Seul? Did she even cry in Fantasy Couple? I don't remember.
Never saw Go Soo in anything but he's handsome!

Oh man, with a title like Sorry, I Love You, there was nowhere for it to go but down. Man gets 3 months to live and uses it to get revenge on his birth mother? Sweet girl falls in love with said man?
I watched it knowing I would be watching a tragedy. It was angst angst angst. If you don't like endings that end in tragedy. . . .then you might want to stay away.
(But I adore Im Su Jung like mad and she's. . . .mediocre in this. It's still worth a watch, as long as you know that it's going to be sad and that you'll need tissues. I still thought A Love To Kill was way sadder but the ending is . . .well, you'll just have to watch SIL to find out)

I remember Anna did cry in the last 2 episodes of Fantasy Couple. When she recalled everything and still wanted to stay with Chul Soo? I remember crying a bucket in one of those scenes...
On Da Hae's angst-ing chops, she did display quite a lot of it in Green Rose (which coincidentally also co-starred Go Soo). It was the same year when My Girl came out, except that the former came out first. So ppl were like kinda shocked when Da Hae went from angsty Su Ah in Green Rose to feisty Yoo Rin in My Girl... cos the switch was like so sudden... within a few months maybe?
For Go Soo, I suggest Green Rose and Piano. In the former his acting was more stoic and reserved, but in the latter, he was explosive. Loved both dramas <333
That's why can't wait for Will It Snow In Christmad to come out!

Ahh, see my first drama ever was My Girl, so I categorized LDH as a comedic actress (because she was so good at it!). I have high hopes for her and still get shocked when I realize she's so young! People were talking about the EOE fail and how she would never get a career back, but I think she's got the acting chops to make it work. Looking forward to Chuno!

I liked The Classic and Il Mare but Christmas in August cannot be spoken of in the same breath as these films. It's in a class of it's own. For those of you who haven't seen it I couldn't recommend it enough. It's a wonderful gem of a movie. And it 's not sad at all. Just the opposite. Very moving , inspiring and elevating. And the two leads are awesome especially the lead actor . I love this film and watch it every now and then to see what it is to be a graceful human being.

Heh, I figured it was going to go THAT way. The first couple of eps were pretty telling. IDK, I think I'll pass for now. I don't mind tragic endings too much as long as the drama is good, with nice characters, good storyline, decent editing and directing. Personally, I'm more of a fan of romantic comedies that end well (I'm a sap! So what?), but I loved some dramas that didn't have a happy ending and during which I cried a river. Heh.

@ rambutan, I thought you meant If It Snows on Christmas (with Park Yongha.) There are just so many Christmassy titles, lol.
@ Sonam, that's a beautiful expression, how to live with grace. It must be why Christmas in August frequently comes up on directors' recommended list -- Naver movies has this feature, and recently Jang jin and Park jin-pyo mentioned it in connection to promoting their latest movies (Good Morning Prez & Closer to Heaven.)
By the way, the lead actor is same as the mean-looking cop in Go Soo's White Night movie;)

I have seen "Will It Snow for Christmas", the latest of Ko Soo's and I find it wonderful - though I agree, SBS could have found a better partner for him than HYS. The quality of HYS' acting did not match the intensity and quality of Ko Soo's - particularly on scenes that required portrayal of depth emotions. Anyway, at least I get to see Ko Soo now on a regularly basis right after a 2-year silence from doing various commercials to the stage play, The Return of Mr. Eum, White Night (movie) and Will It Snow For Christmas? I'm looking forward to his new movie again, "Psychic".
Way to go Ko Soo and may you keep doing lots of movies and TV dramas on which you most excel and shine. Break a leg and GOD BLESS!
