Drama prospect on the horizon for Jeon Ji-hyun
by javabeans
Jeon Ji-hyun is currently eyeing new projects, and may possibly be returning to television in a drama series. She has reportedly received an offer to star in a drama currently in its preparation stages, and is said to be considering it seriously. The plot centers around a woman who is dumped by her boyfriend, then goes out of her way to find a man “just like her old love.”
Jeon hasn’t acted in a drama in ten years; her last was the 1999 show Happy Together (with Lee Byung-heon, Song Seung-heon, Kim Haneul, and Cha Tae-hyun). Following that, she’s stuck to films like Il Mare, Windstruck, and her claim to fame, 2001’s My Sassy Girl. She has maintained her fame as a top star with a bevy of CFs, even though recent endeavors have fallen somewhat short of expectations, including her latest film, the vampire action movie Blood: The Last Vampire. Blood performed poorly at the box office and pulled in poor reviews (although Jeon did receive some praise for her role).
The drama series in question is expected to be announced on a broadcast schedule this week. Some reports say Jeon is in talks with production, while her management, Sidus HQ, has come out with the vague statement that they will consider any project if it’s good, but are not focused on one in particular. (Take with a grain of salt; sometimes production companies announce prematurely, but often the casting news proves accurate.)

I don't know why she was considered an A list actress in Korea, because most of her movies/prjoects, I did not enjoy very much. Although I know that she has been in A LOT of CF's because of her face and body. I do believe she has one of the prettiest celebrities in Asia (and she is tall!)
Did she win a lot of acting awards in Korea? I am just plainly curious, so please do not throw darts at me. ( I don't want to experience a JaeBum here)

When I first saw that picture, I thought, "that actress looks like JJH, who could it be?" I would have never thought that it was JJH. Something is different about her.... it is like she got older or something. Without permission, no less!
JJH is a personal fav of mine, so I will go out of my way to take a peek.

xiaoSxin, I'm totally agreed with you here.
Everyone always say how beautiful and famous she was. But as for me, I didn't memorise any works that will capture my eyes beside my sassy girl which already passed by 8 years!!!!!!!
How can an actress who didn't act always taking a photoshoot and CF could be considered as A-list actress????
Finally she'll be back in the screen. I hope she will prove that i'm wrong here.
Because in my opinion she's just a beauty who lived up with her very old frame.

I think she is very attractive, no doubt. but her looks are overrated. her career trajectory has gone downhill ever since my sassy girl, and she can legitimately only claim one hit under her belt. Similar to Kim TaeHee -- keeps getting offered high profile project despite lack of ratings/box office appeal. it truely boggles the mind!

I think her body of work is pretty impressive compare to other 'CF Queens'. 'Il Mare' and 'The Uninvited' are both critical success (despite the disappointing box office performance). 'Windstruck' was a box office hit in Japan and so is 'Daisy' in China. Plus, the success of 'My Sassy Girl'.
The past couple of years, she has had some bad career moves but still, you cant deny that she has this pulling power that makes people want to see her next film. For someone who is not always active in the spotlight and still have that sort of influence over audience and film makers.. i think that's what makes an A-list star.
I really hope she do this drama. It's about time that we see her in the small screen for a change.

Still wonder whether that project between Rain and Ji Hyun may still happen.

That's good news! She's one of my top Five K-actresses before Im So-jung. I maybe bias about her acting, because I thought she did an awesome job with My Sassy Girl and iL Mare. And her performances in those two films made me one of her biggest fan. I too, hope that the project (or any project) with Rain will be a go.

Considering her status in the Korean entertainment industry, it's quite surprising that she`s rarely seen in dramas.
She`s my idol, so I can`t wait for a drama starring her ;)

I would be very interested in seeing her in a drama. I really liked her spunky and quirky character in My Sassy Girl, she knows how to do slapstick, that's for sure! :)

@janderdella,
"hmm.. how about jun ji hyun being partnered by rain?? "
I strongly believe that neither JJH nor Rain would do another TV project unless there's major attached wattage. The sexual chemistry between the two would be scary good.
I mean, really, if the Four Seasons ever happened, China would never be the same lol.

Well...a lot of people didn't think Lee Byung Hun or Song Hye Kyo would be back doing TV, but they did! That's the thing I love about k-dramas, you actually get A-list actors doing TV, unlike in America where you only get actors who never really made it in the movie industry.

"Lee Byung Hun or Song Hye Kyo would be back doing TV"
Speaking of, I can't wait for the next LBH/SHK drama, "When Hell Freezes Over." ;) (But, hey, at least SHK and LBH can now publicly sit in the same theater. Even though erm it still feels really awkward ) Never thought LBH would come back to TV -- that guy really paid his TV drama dues.
Much like Kim Tae Hee, I think JJH would be much further along as an actress had she gone the conventional route and pursued TV as well as movies. I'm glad SHK is back, but for whatever reason, she feels like an ajumma to me now.

You know why Blood did poorly? Because they strayed away from the original storyline too far. They added some useless girl in the dynamic, changed David's name to Micheal and killed him early (why his name matters I'll add a tidbit later), made the agency Saya worked for into the enemy and had some gay ass excuse that the big boss at the end was Saya's mother which went down like Darth Vader-Luke death match gone sour. Oh and the fact that whoever wrote the script dumbed down Saya so she could have a human partner in the annoying girl that was always with her.
She did a good job, she looked the part, it's the directors, producers, and script writer that messed up.
As for the David thing. Well, Blood and Blood+ kept it consistent. In Blood+ There was a David and David the Second (the son of the original David if I remember correctly). Three things that pissed me off about this as a fan of both the original anime movie and the TV series:
1) David in the movie was like her handler. He got her weapons when she needed it, helped her with covers, and when she needed someone to help kill shit he was there.
2) There was no real reason to change his name to Micheal. Why was it changed? No clue. True it makes no difference if he was David, Micheal or Goliath, but then again the question pops up, then why change the name to begin with?
3) They killed off the one guy that didn't die in the original to further a plot line that made no damn sense, and went nowhere because the bastard that kills David/Micheal gets killed at the army base and doesn't help to further the plot whatsoever. Maybe they were going for the "human beings can be monsters too" approach, but then this is a vampire killing vampire flick, did we really need to care about the human relation aspect of the film? Isn't that why we had to put up with the stupid girl who was no help to anyone running around screaming? Kinda reminds me of the first Hellboy movie with the guy the "father" assigns to him. There was no point to his existence, so what happened to him? The second movie they wrote him out.
Yeah... Anyhoo (after going on a crazy rant of why they ruined her HW debut movie) I am glad she is going to be in something else because I liked her acting to begin with and Blood really was just another American blunder in trying to show an Anime as Live-Action (reference to another one they blundered but luckily it never made it to air: look on youtube for the Sailor Moon American Pilot **gag**).

re: Blood
i really thought that JJH did her part acting-wise, even her english and japanese were good. I totally agree, the script was disastrous! The only good scenes for me were between Saya and the old man. The CGIs weren't done right, and it looked so obviously fake!
Any news yet? I hope she already pick her next drama or project.
