Hon contemplates an extension
by javabeans
MBC’s new horror-thriller Hon (Soul) aired its third and fourth episodes this week, but even before those broadcasts, the station had begun talks of extending the series.
The drama is doing well in its Wednesday-Thursday slot, looking strong out of the gate and buzz increasing for the well-produced, chilling story and its captivating rookie actress Im Joo-eun. Although the latest rating number is a modest 12% and puts it second after Swallow the Sun, given Hon‘s genre and subject material (and the 19+ rating doesn’t help), this is considered a good response (funny how the ratings work that way, isn’t it?).
I’m not a fan of extensions in general, but this is a bit different than your usual scenario: reportedly, this isn’t a move to hitchhike on the drama’s popularity, but rather because Episode 1 couldn’t fit in all that had been planned for the Episode 1 script. Lead actor Lee Seo-jin gave his tentative approval, saying, “If the script had been stretched out because of the extension, I would have turned it down, but I’m considering it in a positive light since this is because the drama hasn’t been able to show all of the plot that it had already planned.”
Part of the reason I convinced my wimpy self to give the horror thing a try was knowing that it would clock in at a brisk 10 episodes, but I suppose adding two episodes doesn’t make it that much more of a commitment. Still, I’m always wary of extensions…

I would have been wary about an extension too, but what Lee Seo-jin says does allay those suspicions.
at least they're extending by 2 episodes. Usually extensions go for 4 or more episodes. Hon/Soul must not have realized how much time those suspenseful moments can take.

I think it's a good thing for it to be extended. Right now, the show is going great and I can't wait to see all the twists and turns. Even though there is that horror element, it works well with the plot of how evil humans can be.

Sometimes dramas that try to extend the story get lagy (QOH, was good but started to drag... a wee bit), but as Hon is extending to cover the story more, I don't mind.
It's better to have those two episodes to cover the story that was not presented earlier, than to leave the drama end without questions and such.

If the extensions were produced well and will add to the wholesomeness of the drama, then why not? I'm all for it. I love the first 2 episodes and I can't wait to see epi 3 & 4!! The newbie lead address is plain awesome. It definitely shows that she didn't beat out her fierce competitors for no reason!! She's amazing good portraying her troubled character. Loving her!!

I started watching this and it's really good! I wouldn't mind an extension but that would mean waiting another week until Ara and Yunho's drama Heading to the Ground airs and I'm so anxious to see it. LOL

I've watched the first three episodes and they've been great so far...much more suspense than shock tactics and there are some beautiful scenes. If the extension helps the story progress more naturally then I'm all for it

Yeah... extensions are usually bad news. But it sounds promising that they had excessive material to begin with.

The 4th episode is doing bad in the rating. So now, i think the production will rethink if this has to be extended. They will be competing with a big production next week. I dont know if this horror thing will last next week with a modest rating.

Not everybody likes horror dramas and considering the PG 19 rating, the ratings so far are okey.
The horror drama which has just started at KBS is the one with very poor ratings at about 5% or less.
This drama is doing good and I love the plot.
LSJ's acting is very great in episode 4!

My fair lady is coming up. With handsome cast and powerful actors. This is to be aired in KBS2. Hon should brace itself for a great typhoon coz it has the same time slot and days with MFL.
