Lady Castle looks for a new name
by javabeans
Looks like the upcoming KBS miniseries Lady Castle [레이디캐슬] will probably be broadcasting under a different name, as explained by production company Lee Kim Productions. To that end, they invited online users to vote on the potential new title on the KBS drama homepage on July 2 and 3.
The reason cited was a concerted effort to curtail the unnecessary overusage of English titles by production companies, which is also the reason given for the last-minute title change for the drama Accidental Couple (aka That Fool), which changed its name from its initial “Six Months.”
Top contenders for Lady Castle‘s new moniker include the two selections voted on by netizens: “Oh! My Princess” [오! 나의 공주님] and “Take Care of the Young Lady” or “Take Care of Agasshi” [아가씨를 부탁해]. Of the two, “Take Care of the Young Lady” led in online votes, meaning there’s a good chance that will be the new title. However, there was a group of netizens who preferred the current title “Lady Castle,” while others criticized the reasoning, saying, “If you don’t want English titles, then what about Partner, which is airing right now?”
Meanwhile, filming will begin soon with stars Yoon Eun-hye, Yoon Sang-hyun, Jung Il-woo, and cutie youngster (of Speed Scandal) Wang Seok-hyun. The drama soon-to-be-formerly-known-as Lady Castle is scheduled to follow current Wednesday-Thursday drama Partner at the end of August.
UPDATE:
The new title is confirmed as “Take Care of the Young Lady” [아가씨를 부탁해], which I assure you flows much better in Korean. Personally, I think they should have kept “Lady Castle” — whose meaning refers to the luxurious, castle-like mansion that the three sisters live in — but oh well.

Eh.. why cant they just use the name Lady Castle except in Korean rather than in English?
As for "Oh! My Princess", I keep thinking of "Oh! My Goddess" (Ah! Megami-sama) >.< I don't really care for the other names, perhaps since I've gotten used to Lady Castle.

If they had planned on changing the title then they should just start with a silly one first and save the good title for later. Why change it to such a lame title as Take Care of The Young Lady?

Ugh. I think I prefer Lady Castle. Oh! My Princess just seems like a rip-off of the Japanese manga Oh! My Goddess, and Take Care of the Young Lady just sounds boring and (imo) stupid. If they're going to change the name, they could at least pick decent alternatives...

Really, this a big fuss? English names are currently being used...I don't see why this fuss is necessary. I preferred Lady Castle among the others...

Really I don’t see any problem in the lady castle title. Actually it has a nice ring in the ears. Title with princess is overuse either in Kdrama or Tdrama. They should stick to lady castle title.

Questions. (In no way am I trying to be funny or sarcastic. Just want to know.)
1. Who is that in the picture? Sul ma..... that's YEH? Totally doesn't look like her. Is it?
2. Can someone explain why it seems every drama goes through multiple names and or name changes?
3. Why choose names that don't make any sense? Lady Castle? As in, a female castle? Or, as it, a woman whose name is Castle?
***
Still, I like YEH a lot. I hope this drama does well. Still, I really really need a break from more dramas. These drama companies don't give any breathing room, do they... I will never catch up... guh...

Eh, they can call it "A Big House Where Some People Live" and I'll still watch it, with this cast! Especially my future-daughter-in-law Yoon Eun-hye.

@ langdon, lol i agree. they can call it "oh! my princess please take care of my lady!" for all i care. i will STILL watch it because of YEH.
if KBS is so anal about keeping their drama titles to Korean, why not change 'Partner' and 'Iris'?
heck, why even use the english lettered 'KBS'? just call it 'Hanguk bangsong'!
so inconsistent!

Any final word on which roles Yoon Sang-hyun and Jung Il-woo will take? I hope Jung Il-woo will be the main male lead! I would really love to see him with YEH. :D

i prefer the title "lady castle" (tho it seriously doesn't make any sense to me)
it really sounds better than the other two {which are too lame... i'd rather be dead than be caught mentioning them... hahaha, kidding!!!}
anyway... wtvr the title... as long as YEH's in it, then i'll definitely watch it!!
why not just keep lady castle as an alternative english title... then make a separate korean one?

WHY did javabeans choose such an unattractive pic of YEH?!?!?!
there's a MILLION better pictures of her. practically ANY OTHER pic would be better than that one.

^@ridkkulus javabeans didn't choose that picture, that picture was the one attached to the original korean article that she translated...so dont kill the messenger.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that picture. it looks cute.
I dont care whatever name they choose, YEH can be paired with a dog and I'd still watch her drama.

@Samsooki:
Yup that's YEH. Why does it seem like she just woke up from a hang over (just my impression) -_-
And I'm no longer surprised at the use of English titles that don't make sense. Perhaps it should have been "Lady of the Castle" than Lady Caste... but despite the fact that Lady Castle doesnt make as much sense (which might be why they wanted to change it) it sounds better compared to the other names suggested.

I'm thinking that they're just trying to make up something to generate interest after the whole start/stop fiasco in the run-up of the drama, and trying to get rid of bad karma (?).
And "Take Care of the Lady" really sounds better in Korean, literal translation doesn't make it sound interesting. I'm thinking they're going for making the title cutesy.

I'm a little confused, why are they concerned about the English? Isn't the English title merely a translation of the Korean title?
Or are they basing the Korean title on the how it would sound in English?

personally, i like that korea is very nationalistic in the sense they want to stick to Korean titles for their /Korean/ dramas. :)

I was thinking of "Mistress Of My Heart" (unless there is a drama with that title already) but that might sound really terrible in Korean. Oh well....just a thought but I guess I'm too late to pitch in my idea!

I agree with Biscuit and Samsooki. Lady of the Castle or Lady in the Castle should be the title and not just Lady Castle, which could mean the castle is of female gender, like when you say white castle because it's white, big castle because it's big, small castle because it's small, etc. But i think it's ok to mix Korean-English. Castle of Agasshi or Agasshi's Castle would be nice =).

It has a lyrical taste to it, and very classy.
I would vote for Lady of the Castle.

I think the fact that they're making such a big fuss about name-changing is a little comical. Oh well - I'm still watching the drama for Yoon Sanghyun & Yoon Eunhye. And Jung Ilwoo, now, too.
Maybe this is just me, but all this castle talk is reminding me of "Howl's Moving Castle" and "Castle in the Sky." Yeah, probably just me.

I kind of understand why they wanted to change the title, although it would have been better if they had decided to use a korean title in the first place instead of going back and forth, makes it seem like the production doesn't know where to go XD XD
Anyway, as I was saying, yes, it's understandable. I mean, here in my country you never see anything on TV named in english, it makes sense to use the country's official language (as not everyone is fortunate enough to be bilingual).
Plus, there's so many things that are lost in translation, you can't always do a literal translation if you want to convey the feeling/wit/joke in the original, and there's always the age-old dilemma of "is it a good translation or not?".
If dramabeans says that “Take Care of the Young Lady” sounds better in korean than in english I take her word for it.
