Choi Chul-ho joins Partner
by javabeans
Remember how Queen of Housewives actor Choi Chul-ho alluded to his next project in the recent interview with Yoon Sang-hyun? Turns out that project is KBS’s Partner, the law drama starring Lee Dong-wook and Kim Hyun-joo.
Choi Chul-ho follows up his turn as the prickly — but also hilarious — businessman in Queen of Housewives in a role that suits his image to a tee, which is that of a cool-headed lawyer who has a 100% win rate. (Kim Hyun-joo is the naive one who wants to help people; Lee Dong-wook is the snobby one who thinks of law as strictly business.)
I kinda would have liked to see Choi go for a more outrageously funny role instead of a serious one, but I suppose all in all, Partner keeps looking up. It takes over the Wednesday and Thursday timeslot when Accidental Couple ends in late June.

This is all part of the same thing...
You take really good looking people, talented in expression, and you throw them together in various plots and stories. Somehow, someway, some times, a particular drama or two stirs the soul and there is an addiction to be formed. But drama watching isn't quite 100% satisfying, always leaving a slight emptiness that can be filled again with more dramas like the ones you just watched...
So we have Choi Chul-ho with Kim Hyun Joo and Lee Dong Wook, in Partner. Already the juices are flowing and the gears are turning... hard to stop cascade of whatever it is that making me want to watch. I am a little scared to even take a peek at the drama once it comes out... What if it is a must-see drama? What if both Partner and Triple turn out to be must-see dramas? What if Partner perfects the law firm drama genre and we see more legal dramas and then I can't stop watching? When will I ever get to work?
Stepping back from all of this for a moment, I sort of feel.... I'm not sure what the word is, trapped? Speaking only for myself, it is such a shame that I cannot have two bodies, one for drama watching and enjoying, and one for work. Then to keep things fair, I would switch roles every few days so that the work body doesn't get jealous of the drama watching body. Insofar as we have to live our own lives, maybe it would be better if these dramas were only mediocre, and not really great.... addictions are not generally healthy for you...
and k-drama addictions are a tough thing to beat. Most of the time, I don't even want to beat my addiction - sort of like when i was a smoker. People would say, "when are you going to stop smoking?" and my response was, "why would I want to stop smoking?" (I did stop completely fairly recently, however. No I don't feel better having stopped, maybe I feel healthier, but I certainly don't feel happier. One of those sacrifice thingies that we all have to do endure I guess).

Do we know what the time slots are?
Will be Partner (Wednesday Thursdays, late June) actually be going head-to-head against Triple (Wednesday - Thursday) which premieres a few weeks earlier? Or will they have different time slots?

Oh JB, another on the recommended/must see list.........Rats there goes a chunk of summer, bless the supermart for 24 hour opening. Nothing like shopping in the wee hours.......this screen hermit must drive the family nuts. Late night marathons of episodes, well up on the news (drama/film and entertainment) from the other side of the globe. Korean/Japanese & Taiwan pop that totally confuses the teens next door, and visitors that catch me in the throws of a cleaning frenzy along with Yuzu - Wonderful World album, who leave with a 'you just have to listen to/see this list' and a bemused glazed look.
Great fun. Heehe
Partner and Triple, wait for me, will get to catch up one day.

I just finished rewatching My Girl and I figured out that I hated that drama for the two female leads but loved the two male leads. Although LDW has a big head - not figuratively but literally. Anyway for this drama.
Can I just say that I squealed?
I was on board when they announced Kim Hyoon - Joo. I got even more excited when they announced LDW...Now I'm absolutely GIDDY.
AHHHH I CAN'T WAIT! I haven't been this excited since they announced the CP cast. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Partner is sounding better and better. ChulHo was also really good in Empress ChunChu, he played a kinda crazy king in the 1st 6 eps i think.

@questions846: Hated the leads? Um this the first time I think i've heard anyone say they didn't like Lee Dae hee, I found it impossible to hate her, honestly she was really cool. Maybe thats me tho, tho Park si yeon acted really awful in the drama. Wookie and Junki were okay, I think Dae hee overshadowed the lot of them.
As for Partner, im with you samsooki, its scary how K drama addiction can take hold and you don't even notice, work life, social life, they're all a hindrance now and must bow to my drama watching. I will be watching Partner, legal dramas all tend to be the same-ish for me but Im hoping the drama makes it feel fresh and interesting, not to mention Im interested in the korean legal system, but if its mediocre I'll just drop it, don't have the time or patience to watch mediocre dramas.
As for Triple, sorry but I've never found the plot to be all that interesting to begin with, but with CP being one of my all time favourite I will still watch, hope it has the same magic that CP did.

Btw, that shirt that Choi Chul-ho is wearing, I really like that kind of A point collar. Maybe it's not really an A point collar, but I don't know what's its called. Pinpoint? I'm a little bit weary of the spread collars and it is good to see a narrower, slightly smaller collar coming back.
The vest also looks good on him because the contrast between the powder blue shirt and the dark vest makes him look slim, which may be important given that he is probably beefier than most of the other 'pretty' k-actors out there who weigh around 150 lbs. Good looking guy playing a lawyer, nicely outfitted, and accoutred with the old school watch and 4 button vest.
Now, I hope that Choi Chul-Ho's character has no parental anxiety issues and emotional trauma from childhood, and I got myself a new role model to pattern clothes, speech and general style. :) Daniel Henney, take notice! This is how to play smexy!

Just out of curiousity, dramabeans. When you recap (Accidental couple and Queen of housewives for instance) the first two episodes of a drama but decide to stop recapping, do you still watch the drama or have you given up watcing it as well? Because I haven't seen another recap of Queen of housewives, but it seems like you know exactly whats going on the drama.

@JiHwan: Just because you haven't seen recaps on the dramas doesn't mean JB isn't watching. JB just probably doesn't have much time to write recaps.
Hmm, Partner is definitely looking up and here I was not going to watch it. I haven't watched many Korean dramas (I can count the ones I've seen on one hand) but lately there have been a few that caught my eye. There goes my summer though. I'll be stuck inside watching dramas.

@ JiHwan and Reese,
When I recap a drama (i.e., Story of a Man), I'll watch every part without fast-forwarding, avoid spoilers (for full dramatic effect!), follow ratings, not watch the next episode until the previous recap is finished, etc. That is to say, I generally enjoy a recapped drama a lot and want to get the most out of the experience.
When I write an intro recap/review but don't follow through on recaps (Queen of Housewives, Accidental Couple), I may keep an eye on the drama and catch parts here and there, fast-forward through boring bits, read the articles in the news that explain what happened in the latest episode, etc. In short, I may be curious about how the story keeps going but don't devote my time to following it closely.

This is looking much better since I like LDW and Biwu separately though not a big enough fan to watch solely on individual basis but the 2 for 1 deal makes this a must watch.
I keep my addictions in check and keep everything to moderation, even kdramas.
When I think about it, I think I spend more time on this site then time spent watching kdramas.

All I want to ask is, "Will he be visiting the jjimjilbang?" :P
Although I would've liked to have seen him in another comedy, CCH really does intensity well, too....so a cool-headed, ace lawyer is fine by me. :D
I may be rooting for him over LDW. o_O
And as Samsooki noted, the snazzy suits fit him to a tee.
He certainly leaves Agent Zero in the dust. ;)

Phew! I'm glad I'm not the only one addicted to k-dramas. For awhile there, I was thinking I need to kick this addiction real bad - My family and friends must think I'm crazy staying up late at night just because I had to keep watching the next episodes or listening to music that's totally foreign to my co-workers (and I). With all the k-drama marathons, it's a wonder I can still function at work!
The problem I have is that I watch some Taiwanese and J-dramas too. Arghhh....
Anyhow, I agree with nycgrl...I think I spend more time on JB's blog than on the k-dramas...hmmm, maybe just a little...
