Brilliant Legacy leads the weekend pack
by javabeans
Moon Chae-won, Bae Soo-bin, Han Hyo-joo, Lee Seung-gi
SBS’s Saturday-Sunday drama Brilliant Legacy [찬란한 유산, aka Shining Inheritance] is pulling in the highest ratings among the weekend dramas, with yesterday’s episode recording a 26.8%. It airs against KBS’s historical series Iron Empress (13.3%) and MBC’s Strike Love (4.1%, ouch).
Meanwhile, at an earlier hour (weekends air two hours of dramas), the lively and enjoyable Sons of Sol Pharmacy House (aka My Too Perfect Sons) on KBS is holding strong with a 21%, over SBS’s Does Anybody Love (11.3%) and MBC’s Job Well Done (aka Good Job, Good Job; this Saturday canceled its broadcast due to an hour on ex-President Roh Moo-hyun’s death, but last Sunday’s episode brought in a 10.2%).
I’m not following Brilliant Legacy/Shining Inheritance, but I know a bunch of you are, and are enjoying it. (I’m sure the good-looking young cast doesn’t hurt! Moon Chae-won and Han Hyo-joo are both improving as actors and lovely ladies — even with Han’s hair resembling a mushroom cap, although she’s cute enough that she can pull it off. Meanwhile, Lee Seung-gi is playing against type as the bad boy, while Bae Soo-bin is always handsome, isn’t he?)
I caught the first episode and thought it was okay, but it just didn’t speak to me, I suppose. I am following two other weekend shows, however, and enjoying both Strike Love for the sweet romance and Sons of Sol Pharmacy House for its hilarious comedy.
What say you about the weekend dramas?

Family Honor was wonderful! Definitely one to watch, if you've got the time.
It was also great learning about the traditions that are slowly being forgotten...
and it fostered many discussions with my own parents about our family history and stories of the past.
Uhm Ki Joon is fantastic in Job Well Done. There are some histrionics, but I'm already addicted.
I just watched two episodes of Sons of the Sol Pharmacy House with my mom,
and it's hilarious, belly-aching laughter all-around. :P
Aigoo, another drama added to my [already full] horn of plenty...

i really like han hyo-joo and in the drama she reminds me of a mix of Go eun chan from coffee prince and Jan di from boys over flowers. all of them have pretty short hair! and theyre loud and nice to old people. actually, all the actors and actresses remind me of the people in coffee prince! the bad boy with longer hair, the good guy that always helps out the main girl, and the left-behind-girl with long wavy hair.

I'm watching the drama right now and it's awesome! Shedded a couple of tears but I'm definitely watching it to the end.
The acting is quite nice. The mother is evil like HYDs'. I find myself progressively disliking her more in each episode. How did Sung Mi come out of her?!
The spoiled brat grandson irks me as well, but his personality is so different towards Moon Chae-won's character, it leaves me a bit baffled. What's his story...?
Shining Inheritance sure knows how to keep me glued!
The last drama I watched was BBF so finding a new one to keep me entertained was a bit difficult. Queens of Housewives and Atashinchi no dansi are not maintaining interest as of late. Most likely I'll drop Atashinchi and go back to Queen of Housewives later on.

I am only on Ep4, and I have rarely hated a leading man as much as I hate this guy. He is just a spoiled, posturing, whiny brat, without any of the lovable qualities that usually make a guy like this still likable. He should be shot for the way he treats his grandmother alone, not even getting into how he treats everyone else, with the exception of the lead's little sister.
Someone, please, please tell me that he gets hit by a car and undergoes a dramatic change in personality in ep 4 or 5?

I never would have thought it possible, because I really, really, REALLY hated Seung Ki, but wow, episodes 21 and 22 have totally changed my mind. This drama is simply awesome!! The actor playing Seung Ki is amazing, because seriously, the change in him is both dramatic and believable.
I am really, really glad I hung in there with this drama.

I found this drama in the whole very boring and tedious, drawn out to the extreme.
I found myself fast forwarding through the last 7-8 episodes.
All the nice moments in this drama would fit into 1 episode alone.
The script & plot are both very weak and everything appears to be drawn out for not other reason than to keep people watching for the whole (unecessary) 28 episodes.
Terrible waste of time and talent in my opinion.
The cast overracted for the most part, especially the supporting cast.
HHJ and LSG were quite impressive within the confines of a terrible weak, predictable and uninteresting, unexciting storyline.
For a great quality drama see - Swallow The Sun......

Moon Chae-won in Brilliant Legacy is amazing! What acting ability this young actress has. I am not Korean but I must say K-drama is the best. Acting is always so good.
