Yoo and Kim team up to solve a real-time murder mystery
by javabeans
Yoo Seung-ho, Kim So-eun
Wow, Yoo Seung-ho sure is keeping busy lately. First he has the war movie with Kim Bum and Seung-ri, 71, as well as the currently filming Busan, as well as a role playing the younger counterpart to the king character in upcoming historical drama Queen Seon-deok.
Now, he teams with Boys Before Flowers and Empress Cheon-chu‘s Kim So-eun in 4교시추리영역, which translates loosely to “Fourth Period Murder Mystery.” The plot unfolds in “real time” in a high school, and when a murder occurs, Kim So-eun sets out to Nancy Drew her way to finding the culprit; Yoo Seung-ho plays a tough, rebellious type.
Directing is Shin Dong-yeob (not the comedian), who wrote and directed the movie 100 Days with Mr. Arrogant. The movie is set to begin filming this month in time for an August release.
Anyone wonder if this’ll be anything like Kim Bum’s Bloody Midterms? The movie sounds pretty standard but for the “real time” aspect, which is a film device I think can be compelling when used right. (Bad abuse of real time: 24 — ain’t no way anyone can drive across Los Angeles in 10 minutes, not even Jack Bauer.)

Very cool news. I adored Kim So-eun in BBF. She was one of the main reasons I kept watching, so I was hoping she'd quickly get more work.

That just makes me smile. I've never seen 24, but Jack Bauer seems to get everywhere in, like, ten to twenty minutes.

Aw, 24 pioneered the "real time" device, and turns out a compelling, convincing storyline every season with - most of the time - genuinely shocking twists and turns. A few inconsistencies here and there doesn't stop it from being the most successful example of "real time" in entertainment. In my opinion. :-).

I've only come to know Yoo Seung-ho through your blog, Javabeans, and given the amount of coverage you have given him in the past 3 months, I wonder if the poor boy (of only 15 years) has slept much lately?! Doesn't he know that lack of sleep can stunt growth! :D However I couldn't help but noticing that his picture above makes him look a lot older than he really is. I'm hoping that he and Kim So-eun can pull off this movie together, despite the age difference.
As for k-movies, I've watched about 6 in the past 4 days and I have to say I haven't been impressed. But that could be due to the selection ... Antique, 200 Pound Beauty, Daddy long legs, I'm a cyborg but it's OK, Fighter of the wind, and My tutor friend ... need I say more? :) Maybe I should just stick to k-dramas.

Pfft...Chuck Norris can drive through LA in less than 5 mins. :D
Good to see Kim So Eun in a leading role for a movie and it looks interesting, but what I would really like to see is a spin-off drama with her and Kim Bum à la Park Shin Hye and Lee Wan in Heaven's Tree after their new found fame from Stairway to Heaven.
@crzycpl
K-movies are generally a lot harder to get into than K-dramas since most of them are borderline arthouse, so can be difficult to find good ones. But some of the good ones are REALLY good though.

For a moment I thought "Go Eun Chan" or Coffee Prince made news again...
I guess I was hoping to hear about Yoon Eun Hye's news on her new drama.
