Iris takes temporary break between overseas shoots
by javabeans
Actress Kim Tae-hee is taking advantage of a brief break to focus on getting (more) into shape for her role in the big-budget spy-action series Iris [아이리스]. She’s not a stranger to action shoots, having done wire work and fight scenes in some of her previous projects (Nine-Tailed Fox, Fight), but is taking care to keep fit to avoid injury.
The production recently wrapped up its shoots in Japan, and has now returned to Korea. The cast will get a brief respite before jetting off for more location filming in Turkey in mid-May. (The scripts are not yet complete for the Turkey shoots.)
I must be the only one who’s not excited for Iris, despite all the hype and the money and the big-name stars. Yes, I am looking forward to seeing Lee Byung-heon (The Good, The Bad, The Weird) again, but I figure I can always catch him in films. But maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Aside from Kim and Lee, the drama also stars Kim Seung-woo (How to Meet a Perfect Neighbor), Big Bang’s Top, Kim So-yeon (Gourmet), and Yoo Min (aka Fueki Yuko; Yoo Min is her Koreanified name).
Iris airs in September.

I don't think IRIS is going to be that good either - I've learned from my previous experiences with anticipating overhyped, big-budget series. But seeing all those stars acting together will still be awesome.

Me too, not excited over this. If LBH is paired with someone who can really act, maybe i'll be more excited, but KTH? No offense, but she's just a pretty face. i hope she'll prove me wrong, i have yet to watch a drama of her where she acts.

Meh. I'm hoping for pleasantly pleased also...
I thought Invincible Parachute Agent (which, I guess, is in the same vein as this) would be bad but... it was actually pretty good.
Hopefully, I'll find something to watch soon. With only The Return holding my interest, I'm getting bored :(
I've been exploring Taiwanese drama now (there's something called My Queen which is like taiwan's answer to Anego (Jap) and Dal Ja's Spring)

Sorry I'm not interested even if LBH and TOP is in it. KTH pretty girl, has brains, but I've never been thrilled with her acting. When I watch her I feel disconnected and I can't seem to want to watch her. Oh well maybe she'll prove us wrong.

I'm CRAZY looking for to it! Even if you're not a fan of Kim Tae Hee, it's a loaded cast, and it's got Mr. Spock (aka TOP) Vulcan mind melds are totally FTW! ;)

I'm looking forward to this one also, just because of LBH. But it scares me with all the hype, the big budget & the big names. I just hope it doesn't become a big flop as most of predecessors with these similar tags.

i sensed some awkward chemistry between taehee and LBH hotness himself. it'll be interesting to see how they pull it off (or not!)

Byung Hun will probably destroy Kim Tae Hee's soul first. Then, they'll pull it off and then she'll fall in love with him. Or at least I hope so. :D

I am also EXCITED over this!
The only thing I can't get over with is, Jung Jun Ho as a second role. But Lee Byung Hun is OK too, just please please don't make these men fall over Kim Tae Hee....and not TOP too.
Kim So Yeon's new hairstyle is kick ass!!!!!!! I really dig it. Makes her look fiercer, and gorgeous.
I hope it won't fail, not like Lobbyist, which I keep pending to watch.

i'm looking forward to this one, too! not so much because of lbh ... but more so because of kim so yeon and top. i think it will fall short of expectations, but should still be an interesting series to watch anyway. lots of different shoot locations, too.

Hmm...I'm torn between being excited and being ho-hum about this show. On one hand, I absolutely want to see Kim Tae Hee onscreen again. On the other hand, her acting's not that rave-worthy (e.g. Lovers in Harvard). Anyhow, this series is worth checking out.
Thanks for the update, Javabeans!

Oh I know! It just intrigues me that you have Lee Byung Hun, Jung Jung Ho, and Kim Seung Woo all in prominent roles for this show. I'm not sure how much that bid budget is available for producing the actual show.

@ belleza,
I agree! Lee Byung Hun , Jung Jun Ho and Kim Seung Woo in one DRAMA was beyond my imagination. I mean if it's a MOVIE, probably I would not that...errr...surprised.
But, since I love charming 'ajusshis' ( well, they are not that old but my friends keep teasing me with my taste of older actors :P ), I just can't miss IRIS.
( plus, I'm drooling over TOP. He's cool..and can act. Or so I say. :D )

First I was quite excited about this (cough Lee Byung Hun cough) but then they announced Kim Tae Hee as a cast member.
She's pretty but acting wise she is below average.

The interesting LBH/KTH dynamic is whether Lee Byung Hun will intimidate and turn Tae Hee into a puddle-of-goo. His often difficult/frosty relationship with his female leads is kinda part of his working reputation.

i'm still a bit iffy on this drama...i feel like it's going to be another east of eden...star studded but BORING and poor acting!
i'm also worried cause i have not yet been interested in any dramas that KIM TAE HEE has acted in yet (when she acts as a main role). honestly her acting sucks as a main lead.

Oh I agree; Spock is totally the deal breaker for me. The story may be mind-numbingly bad (ya never know with Choi Wan Kyu, much of it depends on which Chuck Norris movie he's feeling at da mo') The spy scenes may be as unintentionally painful as that Avengers remake. But by God, any show with Mr. Spock out to kill Lee Byung Hun. The good (cast), the bad (story), and the Vulcan (TOP?) Oh that's win people. WIN!!! It's only logical.

Yeah this drama has WIN written all over it.
High production values + Spy Thriller + Lee Byung Hun (Kim In-Ha is my favorite K-drama character of all time) + Kim Tae Hee (2nd favorite K-actress) = WIN.
And believe me, this is no East of Eden. IRIS' budget is 20 billion won over 20 episodes, whereas EoE had a budget of 25 billion won over 56 episodes. So the budget _per episode_ of EoE was not that big after all. In fact, that's downright cheap :D

@Kobe,
"So the budget _per episode_ of EoE was not that big after all. In fact, that’s downright cheap"
Damn straight. East of Eden, West of Fail. (Okay, I still liked the show but OMG the ending . . . Song Seung Heon channeling Michael Landon from Highway to Heaven . . . . too . . . much . . fail . . . :D )
Lee Byung Hun: Do you expect me to talk, my teacher?
Jung Joon-Ho: No Byung Hun. I expect you to die! Like you should have in All In when you took more bullets than 50 cent.
TOP: It is only logical that you should die It is not logical that you taught Tae Kwon Do to cholos in Watts.
Tae Hee: I agree. I went to Harvard, so I know these things.
Lee Byung Hun: Can you see up there and find the switch with your flashlight?
Tae Hee: Don't worry I can get through the hole.
Lee Byung Hun: But it's so small.
Tae Hee: Don't worry. My head is smaller than a CD. *smiles at camera holding the new Samsung E35 Flashlight (you can recharge by shaking it!)*
Lee Byung Hun: Stay down!!
TOP: Big Bang!!
Lee Byung Hun: I need backup!!
TOP: Big Bang!!
This simply can't fail.

OMG, that's freaking hilarious!
If IRIS turns THAT bad, ( knock wood ), I'd still want to see it.. you know, it's probably mockable like Witch Amusement.
But! I still have faith,,,in Jung Jun Ho, and Kim So Yeon.

Yeah, if I did casting, I would have put Kim So Yeon in the lead female role as a true femme fatale. In an ideal world, where budget wasn't an issue, it would have been fun watching the sparks LBH and Son Yeh Jin would create. Actually I would have cast Song Hye Kyo in the lead role, and then put a stipulation in her contract that she gets to kill off Lee Byung Hun at the end of the series. And I'm glad this is being made now. Because if CInderella Man actually did well, then Iris would have cast LBH opposite Soohee (see new WG remake of FinKl's Now), and this show would have been renamed to "Eww" through the whole show.
Though I'm sure Kobe would approve. ;)

i have 2 more episodes of iris to watch then it's done with. so far, i've explored the internet and found out the demist of lbh and i am very sad that he's not returning for the second part. he's such a good actor and just a good body to watch he's helluv sexy with them guns and holding his love.......i've enjoyed the first to the current episode and i'm always looking forward to the next one. so far, it's been a great spy show and i thank all of the cast and crew for a job well done. usually i hate spy shows the american ones and t his iris, i love every bit of it. so people, stop hating this show becos you are not only jealous but stoopid...so, lbh, you go man, you sexy machine and do please come back for a nother exiting show of this kind. i just enjoy watching you so much........faye from the island.....
