Reminder: Enter to win Boys Before Flowers OST!
by javabeans
Thanks to everyone who’s sent in a parody video for the Boys Before Flowers contest and giveaway — I’ve received some really hilarious entries so far!
But there’s still time to enter — the contest closes on Friday. Yes, we all mock the heck out of the soundtrack, but you know you want to win one anyway!
I’m technically unskilled (nowhere near the capabilities of these fan parodies, for instance), but I’ve whipped up a little something myself, below the cut. No, it’s not a video — gotta work within my limits here. As I mentioned in my last recap, I happened to have a lot of really wonderfully cheesy songs to work with…
SONG OF THE DAY
G.O.D. – “헤어지지 말자” (Let’s Not Break Up) [ Download ]
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
When I was looking for songs to post with my Episode 14 recap, I recall looking at my folder of songs for kpop group G.O.D. and thinking, “Gee, thematically, most of these could fit Boys Before Flowers,” and had a hard time picking which song to use.
I said as a throwaway joke that you could probably reconstruct the whole storyline of the drama in their (awesomely dramatic, angst-ridden) songs. Not the lyrics, but purely their titles. And it turns out, YOU TOTALLY CAN.
Maybe only a few of you will even care (G.O.D. fans unite?), but I had a lot of fun compiling and editing down the list. Although, when you have such song titles as these, there’s not really a lot you have to do to enhance their effect.
And so I present to you:
BOYS BEFORE FLOWERS, AS TOLD IN G.O.D. SONG TITLES:
Here we go: The Story of Five Guys [다섯남자 이야기] (Er, five is close enough to four?)
Also: A Love Story [사랑이야기] between Rich Hero and Normal Girl.
Jan-di arrives at school and, after some Observation [관찰], decides she’d rather not know F4. But of course they have their awkward Meeting [만남] anyway.
Jun-pyo’s anthem may as well be “I Don’t Know What Love Is” [난 사랑을 몰라].
But, there’s A Reason Opposites Attract [반대가 끌리는 이유].
Class trip. Everybody, Report to the Dance Floor.
Ji-hoo says, “Dance With Me” [나와 함께 춤을 춰”].
Then leaves for Paris [파리].
Back at home, Jun-pyo says: “Give Me a Chance” [기회를 줘].
Min-ji (Bad Girl [나쁜여자]) tries to stop him from Falling for Jan-di.
Her trap forces Jan-di to Stay the Night with another man.
Jun-pyo accuses: “Guilty!” [유죄]
F4 say: “Innocent” [무죄]
Reconciliation: the 2♡ are back on track.
But Lately [요즘] Ji-hoo’s acting strange. Perhaps he feels Longing More Painful Than A Separation [헤어짐보다 아픈 그리움]?
Ji-hoo chases Jan-di on the rebound. Obligatory kdrama Circle of Love [사랑의 동그라미] results in War of the Roses (um, roses = flowers?) [장미의 전쟁].
Ji-hoo steps back though he still likes Jan-di In One Corner [한구석에] of his heart.
But Jun-pyo is the one going, “Is this Love? Love!” [사랑?사랑!].
Jun-pyo to Jan-di: “You can Take Everything.” [모두 가져가]
But To Mother [어머님께], there is 0% chance of approval.
She vows, “Absolutely Not.” [절대 안돼]
[ Download “0%” and play below ]
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Jae-ha steps in. Jan-di lies, Jun-pyo dumps her. She gets a red card and must be wondering, “Why Me Again?” [왜 또 다시 난]
Jae-ha tries to win Jan-di. But “I Have A Boyfriend” [난 남자가 있어].
Jun-pyo (and F4) come to the rescue! They set her Free [자유].
Jun-pyo asks for a Promise [약속], and they decide, “Let’s not break up” [헤어지지 말자].
Dad falls ill.
Jun-pyo to Jan-di: “Wait For Me” [날 기다려줘]. Because of all the Loving You, of course.
Jan-di waits. Wonders what happened to You After You Left Me [그대 날 떠난후로].
She decides, “Let’s Go” [가자] to see him.
But she’s an Idiot [바보] and almost gets stranded in Macau. Gangsters swarm.
She thinks of Jun-pyo, “I Need You” [니가 필요해].
F3 to the rescue, and we’re like, This Again? [이렇게 또]
Meeting with Jun-pyo: A Familiar, But Strange Person [익숙한 낯선 사람]
There’s been some kind of a Change [ Download “Change” ]
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Jan-di wonders: “Why?” [왜]
And “I Don’t Know.” [모르죠]
Also, “I Don’t Understand Your Feelings” [니 맘을 몰라].
Lots of shedding of Unperceptive Tears [눈치 없는 눈물]. Because of all the Sorrow [애수].
[ Download “UnperceptiveTears” ]
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
For Jun-pyo, it’s all a Lie [거짓말], but she doesn’t know that.
So F3 comfort her, saying, “It’s Alright.”
END
And there you have it! Episodes 1 through 14 of Boys Before Flowers in G.O.D. song titles. Hope you got a kick out of it. ㅋㅋㅋ
Once again, thanks for those who have already sent in your awesomely edited and hilarious entries!
Can’t wait to see everyone’s parodies!

Wow, that's amazing, must have taken you a little bit organizing that. It flowed really well, thanks for the amusement. ^^ There was a period of time when I listened to GOD's music on shuffle/repeat whenever I was studying. :]

Hi Dramabeans,
I have just finished watching Star's Lover...twice. I know you have given up on this drama *sniffs* but it's ok, I still really enjoyed it and I'm such a sucker for nice endings where the leads are not dead or going blind. Anyway, I can tell you are so fired up about Boys Before Flowers but for some reason I'm feeling a little jaded about the Hana Yori Dango multinational franchise (last heard China is going to come up with their version too...*gasp* :p) Or maybe it's the age group :p Anyway, I'm still your faithful reader and you are right, you DO have a lot of cheesy songs and such a fan of G.O.D.....LOL. That said, I'm glad for the songs 'cos I've never heard them before and they are fun! Thanks for sharing! Have a great day!

The first time I've heard of G.O.D. is from the Episode 14 post. I like k-pop but rap in Korean is a bit difficult to listen to as I don't speak Korean; so I don't think I'd go and search those songs. But it doesn't really matter. That was awesome! I cracked up, haha.

@jb, apparently the Hanadan craze is even going to the Philipines since they're doing their own version as well.

@ jb and k-lover, the Hana Yori Dango manga writer and Group 8 (Korean company that produces BBF) have signed a contract that stipulates that no other version of Hana Yori Dango can be produced within the next two years, i.e. Group 8 has the exclusive rights for 2 years. So if you hear of any other countries doing Hana Yori Dango, you must know that they are legally prohibited from using any of the storylines of Hana Yori Dango or use the name "Hana Yori Dango" as promotion.

I rarely, if ever, laugh out loud literally... but I couldn't hold back the fits of giggling!!! I was (am) such a big G.O.D. fan, and while I read the song titles, I can pretty much hear all the songs playing in my head AND see the BBF scenes :) I have to admit, it's a strange combination, but it totally works!! Keep up the good work ^-^
