Kim Sun-ah back on television

Kim Sun-ah‘s long-awaited drama comeback (last year’s When Night Comes) wasn’t the hit it was hoped to be, but now she’s lining up her next drama project: City Hall.

The SBS drama plans to air on Wednesdays and Thursdays with a premiere date of April 22, and while a rep from the broadcast station says that the contract is not finalized, all signs look good for Kim as the female lead. Her leading man has not yet been decided, but singer-actor Ryu Shi-won of Wedding is the foremost contender (which, meh).

Kim’s management stated that of all the possible projects that have come her way, City Hall is the one she is looking at most favorably. The character she would play is a woman who starts as a secretary in local government who works her way up to mayor. The male lead was raised by a single mother and grows up to successfully pass both the civil service and law exams.

On the upside, I’d be happy to see Kim Sun-ah on television again. On the downside, I don’t really care for the writer-PD combo: Kim Eun-sook and Shin Woo-chul, both of On Air and Lovers in Paris. (Although my opinion is in the minority here, since those were popular dramas.)

Please, no to Ryu Shi Won. My dislike for him is such that I probably wouldn't watch it just because of his presence. Sorry, Kim Sun Ah.

"Lovers in Paris" was a hit? Honestly, I stopped watching after a few episodes because it felt so boring and hackneyed.

Oh yay, Kim Sun Ah's back! I hope this becomes more successful than her last drama was. The plot sounds really boring though...and I hated Lovers in Paris.

Good Luck to her! hopefully this series will be something good since it is Kim Eun Sook-Shim Woo Chul tandem. but i find the plot boring though. maybe they should adapt "BETTY LA FEA" of Colombia in this bad economic condition the world has. "BETTY LA FEA" was conceived out of depressing condition of Colombia to divert people's attention and to give entertainment and hope. it was a worldwide success..Korea has not done a remake of the popular series, which have been remade several times in other countries.

I enjoyed watching both Lovers in Paris (mainly for PSY & KJE) and On Air, but I do not like the writer.. I think she revealed too much of herself (her being so full of herself) through the character Song Yoon-ah played in On Air and I've developed an unfavorable feeling toward her. I also don't like how they included so many ads in their drama (it was so bad in On Air and Lovers in Paris), and I hated how the writer ended both dramas. I like Kim Sun Ah but I don't know if I'll watch this one unless the male lead is someone I really liked.

man, the industry must really be scrounged for money. we've not seen so many hallyu stars known primarily for singing, suddenly headlining drama and movies leads. hope it turns out the best for KSA.

on air was entertaining once you got over all the temper tantrums but i can see how no one would have the patience to wait that long.
i really want Kim Sun-ah to get back into dramaland but NOT with Ryu Shi-won. i saw the first episode of Propose and a little bit of Wedding and he's such a bland actor i couldn't finish either of those two dramas. he doesn't have much chemistry with the lead females and he's a pretty boring actor. i hope they change him out.

..,thank you JAVA!!!!
i can't wait to watch this drama...."Lovers in Paris" was a real hit here in our country so im sure this drama will definitely be good since it's SUNA ^.^
her last drama (When It's At Night) doesn't gather much attention to the public since everything was a rush that's why the story does'nt look that good but i love SUNA's character in WIAN love her acting too (just love everything about SUNA)
this is going to be the 2nd time that SUNA and RSW will be working together, their first project was "Forever Yours" although SUNA is not RSW love interest in "Forever Yours" so this really excites me more and "City Hall" will be the first that SUNA's leading man will be older than her...can't wait to see the chemistry of this two character....

I couldn't say anything else yet about this drama... writer-PD seems ok yet kinda on the scary side... But I just have one wish - all the best to Kim Sun Ah. I hope this will turn out better for her.

erhm... Betty La Fea? I don't think Korea (or the korean drama world for that matter) needs Betty La Fea when they already had someone that is a better match - way way way much better than Betty. Her name is Kim Sam Soon.

The production company must be thinking of the lucrative japan market when they fill RSW as upcoming male lead, as he is quite an influential hallyu star there.

So, likely this drama plot tailored for that market as well, just like Star Lovers.

The lead male's character sounds like RSW's character on Wedding ( the drama with Jang Na Ra )!

I don`t know much about RSW, his not that attractive to me and I haven`t seen any project of him. If the drama will be a comedy romance, I don`t think he would be funny to watch. But if it will be a drama, I think his good at it.
The script is not completed yet, so I hope Suna had studied this project before she committed herself. I`m confident with Suna`s acting ability, but with the PD and scriptwriter, I don`t know. I wish, if RSW will be replace, Jo Han Sun will get the role or JDG... would be excellent.
Anyway, I`m happy about this, Suna is the only actress I adore. I hope this will be her best drama after MNIKSS.

I hope not, I hope SBS will take good care of Suna.... She`s a rare gem.
She just need to have a good project and work with the right people.

I like On-Air dont get me wrong and I will be the first to say that I completely skipped over the Paris in Lovers craze and this also applies to the Coffee Prince craze but I just dont like the sounds of the scenario. It sounds, i guess the applicable term would be "lame"?

Ive seen RSW's works but im in agreement with jastinel here with them casting RSW and catering to the japanese market...although with the economy in the total dumps all over, are people still spending crazy money like that?

I love Kim Sunah!!!! "My name is kim samsoon" is what got me watching K-dramas in the first place, and I am forever grateful to Kim Sun-ah for all the laughs she gave me during MNIKSS, and all the great hours of fun drama-watching I have enjoyed since.

I liked On Air. I didn't mind the histrionics because the drama was about people with huge egos in the glitzy world of show business. I admit SYA did get on my nerves a couple of times. I have recently been reading in the news about certain famous actor getting her phone tapped, managers beating up their young stars etc.. It was like watching On Air all over again. People who haven't seen it should give it a chance. You might be pleasantly surprised. It was one of the better dramas to come out in 2008.
I might give this drama a shot because I am sentimental about KSA. MNIKSS remains a fav after all these years. The first five episodes are to die for. I like to go back and watch them every now and then on Youtube. It never gets old.
I wish they'd cast a hot guy like Hyun Bin. She really looks good with hot guys. That's her magic. She makes it all so believable.

Ryu Shi-won..... I have mixed feelings about him acting wise. Though it's usually because the things he picks to sign himself up for is just strange. I've only ever liked him in two dramas: Beautiful Days and Wedding.

Oh well. Hears hoping it's a different pairing, and if it isn't, hears hoping it exceeds expectations.

I really have nothing against RSW, for him being in the entertainment industry for that long, it means he is one of the Best out there! I'm just really excited to see KSA on-screen again and hoping to see her more in different projects this year!

Come to think of it, I wonder if Kim sun-ah and Ryu si-won will be a good match, given her image of outgoing and optimistic girl and Ryu's gentle and good guy image (sometimes with not much of passion inside).

Sitting them together in a drama somehow doesn't feel like a good combination. Just a thought.

ON AIR is one of my All time favorite K-Dramas but I couldn't finish watching Lovers In Paris despite the high ratings..I am looking forward to this drama and will definitely watch it as long as the storyline suits my taste. I like both RSW and kSA. The last RSW's drama I watched was Wedding which has been quite a long time ago....Thanks for the news.

alodia, BETTY LA FEA to me was much better than KIM SAM SOON, that was why i couldn't finish epi 7 of KSS, because i have seen BLF first and i was so entertained in that series...while i find KSS character simply unappealing to me, as she started annoying me after seeing episode 2...

that was why i am wishing her luck in this series...hopefully it will be something better than ON AIR...

and i may not even watch this, that was why I am wishing her luck...i was not able to finish ON AIR...lost interest on the series halfway...

and don't feel bad...obviously you love KSA...but i don't neither like nor hate her...simply not fond of watching her...

maybe Korea should try 'BETTY LA FEA' who knows it will even surpass KSS' success if they will get a really good actress who can pull off the character of BETTY.

like some said, I just love Kim Sun Ah so much that I would watch whatever she's in. I am just happy she's picking on a new project.

I just dont get it why wasnt "when it's at night" a hit. I watched this serie and both Lee Dong Gun and Kim Sun Ah played their parts well. The storyline is original and evokes curiosity. It's totally my type. I thought it should be a hit too, but surprisingly it's not. Oh well...

"My name is Kim Sam Soon: is still my favorite bit I like "When it's at night" a lot too. I didnt care for Lee Dong Gun before this serie, but after watching it I have changed my perspective. He's a decent guy as well as an actor. He may not be as cute as some other actors in the industry (Hyun Bin, Won Bin,...btw I am in love with those two :P lolz) but he definitely has something charming in him. :)

I dont know why I am even rambling this :D Oh and again, cant wait to see Kim Sun Ah again on television :X

I've waited for so long to watch ryu si won coming back on tv again. I think the role in this serie is very suitable to him. It's sad that he couldn't come back to play this role with Kim Sun-ah. Anyway, I will always wait for him.

I enjoyed watching the When Its At Night, I thought the story is quite entertaining so I dont understand when its a flop, so sad :(
anyway, I like KSA and I am watching her new drama City Hall and she is so cute and loveable. But she carried the serious scene quite well too ( when she sweared in as the new mayor and paid tribute in memorial) ,when she throws angry looks at the other women, she has quite an authority aura around her. I hope that she gives jo gook a hard time, that guy thought he is very smart. I hated it when he dumped her even though it seems that he was actually protecting her. KSA keep up and good luck. I oso dun like the councillor min, so childish and scheming. I hope her husband fell in love with SMR hahaha
