Brian heads for Hollywood
by javabeans
Another day, another Korean entertainer making a Hollywood debut.
Half of ballad duo Fly To the Sky, 28-year-old singer Brian, has announced his foray into the Western market. He’d begun negotiations to make his Hollywood debut last year, and has now confirmed his first project, which coincidentally is also his first movie role. (Lot of eggs in one basket, eh? At least we know his English won’t be a problem.)
In a recent interview, Brian said, “I’ll be starting filming in June in Louisiana for a Hollywood action comedy. We’ll be shooting in both the States and Canada.”
He explained that he couldn’t elaborate on the project because it’s still in development. However, he did share that his role will be different from what people have seen of him thus far: “In Korea, on television shows I’ve had a playful, pretty-boy image, but for my Hollywood debut, I’ll be playing a strong, masculine character.”
Brian is currently rehearsing for the role. In other news, Fly To the Sky recently released “Decennium,” their 10th-anniversary album. It was announced that afterwards, Brian and Hwanhee will focus on their solo careers, but they were quick to assure people, “This doesn’t mean we’re breaking up the group, so I hope people don’t misunderstand.” Although this will be the last official FTTS album, they plan to reunite on single albums, concerts, and other projects.

Aww. One of the few kpop singers I actually like. He has such a cool personality. I guess I have a thing for English-speaking Asian celebrities.

Interesting, considering that he doesn't really fit the "pretty-boy" or "strong, masculine" image.
He, however, does fit the ribald and a bit goof image via his personality on variety shows.

last official album? that's just sad news to me. on the up side though, their new album is really good.
brian's u.s. debut? hmmm, like you said, at least english won't be an issue. also, hollywood seems to be a lot more open to asians [especially korean americans] these days as compared to past years. i'm not saying that hollywood is SUPER asian friendly, but it's getting a little bit better.

love Brian. I'm an old FTTS fan. Even though I'm not as rabid as I used to be I still root for him whenever I hear about his career moves. Also I'm originally a jersey girl though I am now a NYC girl!

This just in: Brian Joo to start in Clint Eastwood's
"Gran Torino 2: Make My Kimchi", a story about a Korean American veteran, Korean gangsters, and one memorable shootout at Cassell's in K-Town. Soundtrack by Kyle Eastwood with spoken word by "The Brian."
