Boys Before Parodies

Boys Before Flowers: Requiems and Grandpas
With the level of soaring popularity it’s enjoying, it’s no wonder that Boys Before Flowers has spawned a spate of parodies.
In general, netizen culture is rather prolific in photoshopping goofy images and putting together tribute videos and parodies. With Boys Before Flowers, it’s no different. There’s “Grandpas Before Flowers” (above right), in which fans composited the faces of veteran actors Lee Soon-jae (as Gu Jun-pyo) and Na Mun-hee (as Geum Jan-di).
And then there’s “Requiem” (below), which I think is startlingly good.
“Boys Before Flowers: Requiem”
I think the tight editing and use of music in this fan video is even better than the series itself, and they’ve made clever use of scenes and dialogue from Episode 10 to construct the story. (Also — I LOVE how they worked in their “villain.”)
In summary: The opening uses Jun-pyo’s dialogue where he warns Jan-di about his witchy mother and asks her to promise not to run from him. Mom says ominously, “Make preparations.” Then Jun-pyo worries that he won’t know if something bad will befall Jan-di. After that, I think it’s pretty self-explanatory. (The phone call uses Yi-jung’s line to Ji-hoo from Episode 6 how “This time you’ll have no one on your side.”)
Boys Before Flowers: Goong Opening
This one I enjoy because it’s managed to convey the feel of the Goong (Princess Hours) opening remarkably well, mostly taken from Episode 6 scenes. (Here’s the original Goong opening.)
The rest aren’t as good, but it’s interesting to see the diversity of styles. There are some bad fan-acted versions that I’m not posting here because they amount to people dressing in uniforms and acting out scenes, and aren’t really noteworthy. But these took some creativity, like the following video-game version below (I think it’s Counterstrike?).
Video-game version
It’s not funny or that engaging, but it obviously took a lot of effort to re-create scenes from Episode 1
using the video game. All the audio is taken directly from the show.
“Boys Before Golddiggers”: Simpsons-style version
Again, not terribly funny, but it clearly took a lot of effort. “Boys Before Golddiggers” is the amended title that is used in the end.
Infinity Challenge version
This takes the comedians and participants of variety show Infinity Challenge (like Yoo Jae-seok, Jun Jin, Park Myung-soo, Jung Hyung-don) and uses their faces for the cast members. Man, some of them make ugly women.
I’m sure many of you have already seen Big Bang‘s parody, which isn’t really a BBF parody — it’s based on the Japanese Hanadan, but here you go anyway:
ADDED!
Thanks to sea for this. Apparently also done by the same editor as the “Requiem” and “Goong” MVs, there’s this one that reconstructs the Jan-di and Jun-pyo love story as a tragic memory after Jan-di dies:
“Ballerino”
Oh, this one’s really good too, by the same editor/fan:
“New Heart Opening” (here’s the original New Heart opening)
“Grandpas Before Flowers”

there are this fan vids of Kim Bum as Jandi, a tribute video to Junpyo to Wonder Girls' So Hot, & Jihoo as a creepy guy using the scene from ep8 of his date with Jandi at his home & creepy music. all of those are pretty hilarious, i totally love BBF, its so addicting, i've re-watched many of the episodes so many times.

as le said, there is another paraody called 꽃보다 남친 that takes clips from kim bum's high kick days. it's pretty funny.
the korean film industry seems to have a lot of talented producers/editors in the making.

You know, I think some of the titles are funnier than the vids themselves. Like, there was one called 꽃보다 남장 (Crossdressing Before Flowers) but I didn't post it because it was lame. Then there was 꽃보다 바이러스 (virus Before Flowers) that was supposed to be a Beethoven Virus mix.
꽃보다 할배
꽃뱀보다 남자
꽃보다 슈주
꽃보다 여자
etc. etc...

Mindy, you're certainly not the only one. There are a fair number of people who take enjoyment in the bashing thereof, actually. But obviously since I enjoy it and most people who come here enjoy it, you're going to get mostly interested responses here.

amazing~ maybe you guys know Requiem and Goong opening
they've made by same person and she(or he?)'s very famous netizen for wonderful parodies.
i recommend you find her another parody mv ballerino(리쌍). my favorite so far.
i can't find that mv in youtube, though.
it's quite impressive because it has its own storyline.
it starts with junpyo(as a CEO of shinwha group...maybe)'s painful reminiscence.
he reminisce about the happy memories with jandi, jandy's car accident and her death. After several years of mental illness, junpyo committed suicide..
and their reincarnation.
i think it's pretty dramatic than the series itself but i like it.

The Requiem one is pretty good...it's a good example of what an OST can do to set the mood...
I have also seen one called "Evil Jihoo" which is pretty hilarious if you ask me...the music makes Jihoo seem a lot more creepier than he already is lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJF0vEhpjd8&fmt=18
I especially love the last scene :P
Im so glad the netizens have begun to complain about the OST being overplayed. I really do not want to see another scene being ruined by "aaaaaaalmost paaaaaaaaradise" *shudders*
Fingers crossed that the second volume of the OST will have better music *sigh*

The superimposed Jandi doesn't look very different from the original Jandi. This is why some of us have been going hoarse complaining about Jandi's hairstyle. It's aging her. She really needs work on her bangs and her whole image. I also don't like the cute ugg like boots she wears. I just don't see Makino dressing like that. I prefer the Doc Martens boots she wears with her school uniform. The stylist for BBF is a middle aged lady ( I saw her on youtube) and her hair is just like Jandi's. They need to get a younger stylist who would know how a 2009 tomboyish Korean working class teenager would dress. I wish they'd hire someone from Feet Man Seoul.
I remember the Japanese Makino always wore tall flat boots, a denim skirt and army jacket most of the time. That was her signature look. The Taiwanese one wore a lot of tee shirts and pants. Jandi needs her own look that establishes her character. Right now it seems to be all over the place.
@Mindy I don't find BBF terribly exciting too. I am just watching for the very talented LMH. You have got to admit he's very likeable and watchable.

That BBF Requiem video is pure genius!
If I had any talent in making videos, I would re-edit BBF into Kill Bill, with Jan Di as the Bride and Jun Pyo as Bill. I mean there are quite a few scenes of Jan Di (and Jun Pyo) beating up people. I think it could work....

Gah, I can't watch the spoilery vids cos I'm not currently watching this drama (not yet anyway). I'm watching Hana Yori Dango II atm and it's *killing* me...too much teenage angst, omg. Anyway, that was an OT rant. Sorry.
The Goong opening credits, both the original and the BbF remix, were great. I also love Goong's OST, but whenever I listen to it, my sis rolls her eyes and asks what the hell I'm listening. Pfft, philistine!

Wow the "Requiem" and "goong" MVs were very impressive! Now that is tight editing and the correct use of music.
Someone should pass that MV editor's number to the actual PDs of BOF - THAT is how it should be done!!! The PDs should get some lessons....
BTW Dramabeans thanks for keeping us all updated on all things Kdrama, and esp BOF lately. Love your recaps - which ties one over until the subtitles come out!

I was like o.o during the whole Requiem! I mean, honestly, if I didnt know about BBF I would have that was a real movie trailer! Too bad... I really wanted to see it TT_________TT
Honestly, all the scenes were from BBF and yet the quality... so much better than the actual drama (dont kill me XD) I mean, just the change in music and how the scenes were put together..... ahhhhh~~~~~~~ I still love BBF despite it's flaws, I cant get away from it XD
I also agree, the Goong one was good too :O

Goong Opening is really good. Watching it made me happy. Maybe it's the music, almost dream-like. I also liked how Goong Opening gave attention to Kim Joon, even showed his best angles.
As for Requiem, really creepy. I think Lee Min Ho will be wonderful in a psycho thriller. Or even K-horror. Aaahh, can't wait!
I hope they will profile the brilliant person who edited the vids. They should email him/her a job offer already!

When I was watching Requiem, my heart was going 'ba-dump, ba-dump' ... AND I DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT! (I only knew a little bit through Javabeans' nice translation.'
And then there was the 'Goong' video. I seriously like how that was done. Very Goong-ish, very classy. It really set the mood.
Seriously wonderful videos. Is the perosn who made them studying to become a director? I hope so. If not, his/her talent would be absolutely wasted.

I absolutely agree - seeing the Evil Ji Hoo video clip, suddenly I was like - if this was really Ji Hoo's role, then his acting would be spot on. Those delayed reactions and odd pauses dont mesh well with the current theme - but put a bit of ominous music and it all makes sense.....
