Min Hyo-rin takes to the ice
by javabeans
With a few months before filming begins, kpop singer and newb actress Min Hyo-rin is training heavily for her role as a figure skater in this summer’s sports drama Triple, putting in as much as ten-hour days on the ice. She began training as soon as she was cast in mid-2008, which means that by the time the drama airs in June 2009, she will have about a year of intensive training under her belt.
Given that Min Hyo-rin is the star, though, she has been rather overshadowed by her more famous co-stars and director. After all, she’s famous mostly for her nose, while Kang Ji-hwan (Hong Gil Dong), Yoon Kye-sang (Who Are You), and Lee Seon-kyun (Coffee Prince) all came off multiple drama series and film projects in the past year alone.
I’ll admit to looking forward to Triple with an absurd amount of anticipation. It’s got a potentially silly-sounding premise, but given its director and cast, I think it’s got a shot at rising above its fangirly foundation. (Lee Yoon-jung is probably the perfect director for a sports-romance series like this, given her deft touch with young love in Coffee Prince and the skill she showed in depicting sports psychology with Taereung National Village.) And as cute as the boys of Boys Before Flowers may be, here we’re talking three heartthrobby men — who can act!
Min Hyo-who?
(The usual caveat, of course: If she turns out to be good I will be completely happy to admit it.)

LOL!! Min Hyo Ri is known for her nose?! really?? well, whether she has a pretty nose or not, i hope she can live up to half of KJH, YKS, and LSH's potential. i say half only because she's still new and getting used to the camera and acting. although, maybe with such a talented people around her, she'll improve exponentially by learning from them!

You have no idea how much I'm anticipating this! No, seriously, I cannot wait. I usually watch dramas once they're over (I've been into dramas for a bit less than a year so I'm catching up with K-classics before starting with new ones), but for Triple? I'm SO going to make an exception.
"here we’re talking three heartthrobby men — who can act!"
And amen to that! No, really, this may be the best cast of the year! Even if for some kind of disaster, the plot and dialogue turn out to be total letdowns, seeing those 3 act together will be a delight, imho.

i agree the other 3 F4 are cute as a button (especially Kim Bum) but LMH is very very heart pumping for me. He has the raw sensuality of Jerry Yan except his interpretation of Domyoji is more nuanced. Jerry's interpretation was to act retarded and keep it one dimensional. .But both make very hot Domyojis. Jun is the cute Domyoji. Cute and clueless is cute but hot and clueless is brilliant.

Have to say that this drama looks like one for me to watch! As CP got me started on kdramas I'm anticipating another good job from the PD. In addition to 3 handsome faces we're getting LSK 's voice! Sorry to sound superficial.

Looking forward to this drama... i hope and wish Min Hyo Rin can act, otherwise, she will totally be overshadowed by the 3 guys . But with PD Lee in charge, I am sure everything will be okay. Can't wait to see Ji Hwan on ice :)

I'm still in fear of what kind of effect these figure skating dramas will have on Kim Yeon Ah. The dramas couldn't have come at a worse time. They're going to air in the season leading right up to the Olympics. One year and one month from now and we could be witnessing an Olympic first, just like Park Tae Hwan showed at the summer Olympics.
Dramas about figure skating which we all know are inspired by the recent success of Kim Yeon Ah, it's all going to add some kind of pressure and stress to this 18 year old girl and it's all going down right before the Olympics.
Man, couldn't they have waited until after the Olympics?? Koreans don't need a fake story about figure skating, they got the real deal right in front of them!
Or maybe I'm just stressing out too much because I'm a worried fan of Kim Yeon Ah.. but doesn't this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQO8eVV8n3Q look so much cooler than anything we can expect from the fake dramas?! That's the real stuff, guys! There's your story and it's real too! It's happening right now. Forget those fake copycats.

Even one strong year of figure skating skills just isn't going to make you suddenly able to do solkow and other kinds of jumps. I just can't see how Triple can be really about figure skating; she's break a leg (and her luxury nose ono!!) if they tried to be authentic.
Actually it would be awesome if there was a drama about Michelle Kwan. Especially if Sasha gets to play the villain. Heh. Fall much Sasha? :D

Rachael Flatt is probably the one to beat at nationals. Unless Caroline Zhang fixed her mule kick, she doesn't stand much of a chance medaling at worlds. I think U.S. fans were expecting Zhang and Nagasu to take over by storm after watching Asada and Kim dominate the field as soon as they transitioned from juniors to seniors. Except, while Asada and Kim have lived up to their potential, Zhang and Nagasu have not. They're still quite young and have years to improve, but I'm not sure they can get their act together by 2010.

You summed it up for me. It's just going to be a stupid love story mixed with some skating. I wish I could let it go, but it's so frustrating to see them take something so serious right in front of them and turn into a silly love story. I've said it before, they can tell their love story, but why drag figure skating into it? I bet they could tell the same story with any other sport. She could be a golfer, swimmer, basketball player, archer, curler, whatever and it would be the same story in each scenario. I know they went with figure skating because of its current popularity, but damn, it's just going to add more stress and pressure on the real figure skater! I guess Kim Yeon Ah could be flattered by this, but by raising more interest into the sport, it means that much more pressure on her to do well.
