Rain hosts, struts, sings, and dances at Six To Five launch
by javabeans
As previously mentioned, singer-dancer-actor-designer-CEO-“world star” Rain is coming out with his own fashion line, “Six to Five,” which he kicked off in style on the 23rd with a fashion show–launch party–mini concert. Trust Mr. Multihyphenate to give the same treatment to his big events.
The launching party took place in Ilsan and was attended by some of Rain’s industry buddies, though not a whole slew of them; some key attendees included Hyori, Yoon Kye-sang, Chae Rim and Kim Sun-ah.
Apparently, the rocket was chosen as the brand symbol to express “the spirit of challenge that overcomes time and space.” Er….. Furthermore, the brand name is based on the concept of moving from the five senses into the realm of the sixth… in which case, shouldn’t the brand name be Five to Six? O_o
The collection aims to incorporate a vintage touch to the style which is described as “halfway between Europe and America.” After the brand launches in Korea, Rain plans to expand to China, Japan, and the rest of Asia.
Rain explains his rationale for his unusual fashion show/concert: “I prepared this new type of show to set it apart from shows that are merely big…. I mixed the idea of a fashion show and concert to make it even more entertaining.”
(I don’t mean this as snark, but that’s spoken as someone who merely sees fashion as an extension of his “entertainer” label instead. I mean, obviously fashion shows should entertain, but that is not their primary purpose, and this really just seems like a different type of concert, not a different type of fashion. Doesn’t it?)
The runway portion of the show was split into four themes: Red, Blue, White, and Black. Rain kicked off the runway show with a song and dance (naturally), while fashion models strutted in wearing Six to Five designs. Rain also walked in the show.
Part 2 was the concert portion, during which Rain sang a mix of some old hits and new songs off his 5th album: “It’s Raining,” “Touch Ya,” “I Do,” “Love Story,” “Rainism,” and “Fresh Woman” (or, as I like to think of it, “fresh ramen”).
(I always get a kick out of some of his more, uh, unusual poses. Above we have the Drag Queen Strut, the Jazz! Hands!, and the Michael Jackson. Below we have… what looks like a mix of Drunken Karate Kid and Broadway Side-Skip. Gotta love it)
As for VIP attendees, we have singer Lee Hyori:
Kim Sun-ah (When Night Comes) with Chae Rim (Rivals):
Rain’s good friend, singer-actor Yoon Kye-sang (Who Are You):
Han Eun-jung (Lawyers of Korea), television shopping host Im So-yeon:
Singer-actress Park Ji-yoon (Bichunmu), Go Eun-ah (Rainbow Romance):
Jewelry singer Seo In-young, who I always forget can look pretty and polished when she’s not doing her Crazy Desperate Stage Tart shtick:
The Last Scandal of My Life co-stars Byun Jung-soo and Jung Jun-ho:
And teenage pro golfer Michelle Wie:

Did he really design those clothes himself? Or he just employ other designers to design those for him? I will applaud for him if those are his designs. They look stylish and chic but i'm just wondering about the price..... Hmm..

I do so enjoy reading your posts on Rain. Your barely concealed....disdain? dislike? disregard? is hilarious. Especially since the concealment seems to be done solely for the purpose of pacifying the Rain fangirls. Also Six to Five = "the concept of moving from the five senses into the realm of the sixth"? I love it.

Rain should take some fashion tips from his friend Yoon Kye sang. I love how he's dressed. Very stylish in that cool effortless way. His look is very very in right now. The plaid shirt and the cowl scarf. I am in the process of knitting one for myself and trying to finish it before everyone starts sporting one.
KSA shouldn't have worn a fringed scarf.....there's enough fringe on the bag and her forehead .
CR looks so chic tho' I wish she had worn tall gray suede boots instead of the casual brown ankle ones.
I don't care much for Rain's design...it's the generic video gal look.

I've been reading your blog for awhile now, but I never posted a comment. But I got a good kick out of reading your comments. Especially the names you gave Rain's unusual poses, haha..=)
Although I do think that this fashion show/concert is a bit unusual, it is unique.

Looks like this was a mess all the way around. From the tacky tights, to the tacky whites to the tacky Michelle Wie, who was so over-rated, she was forced to go to Q-school in order to keep her spot in the LPGA.
Just another way for Rain to reap the bennies off of his fangirls, who will probably all say that the clothes are stylin'.
Halfway between Europe and America? Now, exactly which "country" would that be ....?

YKS loves to put his hands in his pocket :)
It seems to me that Rain is a very business-minded man. I give him credit for always working so hard AND being one of YKS's best friends, kk.

Isn't the concept like the one for Victorias Secret fashion show? They have popular artists singing their popular songs while the models strutted down the runway.

"Singer-dancer-actor-designer-CEO-”world star” Rain" sounds amusing. these days singers have to be so many things as if they need to shout to the whole world that they are so "talented" .......

Why does Rain look like he's hypnotizing Hyori in that picture? Is that what he is supposed to be doing?
Ah, Rain, you can hypnotize me any day with those magical jazz hands! Have you all seen the videos with him and Kim Sunah from their tango practice? Rain is seriously adorable there. I guess Kim Sunah can make anyone come across as charming, because she is so charming herself, but Rain looked cute and happy in the company of his unni. I would think he would be high energy , high stress all the time, but it looked like they had a lot of fun.

well...if he really designed all those clothes then i give him props!
but for the show...i agree with you...it really wasn't a new feel to fashion but to a concert stage.
and there he goes again....showing off the lack of his english skills "SIX TO FIVE" when it should really be "FIVE TO SIX" if it really had the meaning he said it did.
he's a cool dude and all but man....sometimes i really wish he would just stop...take the time to actually learn things (i.e. ENGLISH) and make some sense. if he doesn't know he should really ask before making himself look illiterate and giving asians the continued stereotypes of being FOBs.

6 to 5 = Rain's birthday. It's just another outlet for the (very) narcissistic person that he is. He can't be saying he named his fashion label after his birthday can he?

Well, you gotta hand it to him, he is making more money than us lol. I am a Rain fan but this article made me laugh out loud. As much as I love him, I cringe every time he makes the Michael Jackson face....the older he gets the worse it gets too! His clothing line looks mediocre at best but props to him.
As for the ego...yep, bigger than life. I was one of the stupid people who bought tickets to his LA concert that canceled while we were standing in line (I drove from Seattle I might add...)--at the time there was big promises for another concert, a fan meet etc. etc. but it never happened. I think he feels he is untouchable and is more popular in the U.S. then he truly is.

i'm not a big fan of rain but i watched his performances and it was awesome.i was able to research about the story of his life and the challenges, sacrifices on his way to success.it was somehow inspiring.he was rejected many times beire but he never gave up on his dreams..in my opinion, rain is getting older and we know that there are a lot of new kpop artists nowadays so rain used his resources while he's still recognized and popular.he's still active in the entertainment industry.i think he was thinking that he will not be famous anymore in the couple of years coz he'll turn 30yrs.old in 2 yrs.time.he was starting his own business, even left jyp entertainment.at least he's using his brain in investing in business, not just 1 business but i think 3? (clothing line,j.tune, coffee shop)correct me if i'm wrong.it's good compared to other artists that they are just spending their money into nothing.rain will be serving the military and it's mandatory in korea.so he will be away for 21 months.

Hmmm... so many comments... the truth is..no one will see the sacrifices made...the pain and etc...in order for him to reach where he is... but its easy to comment on obvious measures...
anyways everyone is entitle to their opinion...as for me to u Bi.. Go fighting!! ;)
